Cassandra Leann Walker

June 21, 1983 to December 25, 1997
Cassandra Leann (Cassie) Walker, 14, Brookston, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Riley Children's Hospital, Indianapolis. She had been at the hospital since December

She was born June 21, 1983, to Malcome and Tina Demerly Walker, in Lafayette, and they survive.

She was an eighth grade student at In-County Middle-Senior High School.

She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette and the Tn-County School Band.

She was also a member of the FFA and was active in Round Grove Twp., White Co. 4-H Club.

Surviving with her parents are a brother, Matthew, Brookston; grandparents, Francis 'Bud' and Dorothy Demerly, West Lafayette, and Nelson and Altie Walker, Chalmers; great grandmother, Mrs. Ernest (Amy) Brooks, Tazewell, Tenn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lafayette with Father Chris Miller officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge.

Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lafayette.

Memorials may be given to the Riley Children's Hospital in the form of blood donations or signing of Organ Donation cards.

William E. Walker

November 21, 1931 to March 24, 1995
William E. Walker, 63, Rt. 2, Brookston, died Friday, March 24, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born Nov. 21, 1931 to Norman and Agnes Hurst Walker in Waveland. He married Michelle D. Sullivan on July 4, 1984 at Tecumseh Bend, Carroll County, and she survives.

He was the vice president of housing and food services at Purdue University before retiring in 1986. Prior to that position, he was the director of Young and Hawkins graduate houses for 20 years.

He served in the U.S. Army as Sergeant First Class during the Korean War. He was an aide to General Collins at Fort Carson, CO. He was discharged in 1956.

He was a 1949 graduate of Waveland High School. He graduated from Lane Technical Institute in 1952 and John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. He graduated from Purdue University in 1959 in civil engineering. While attending Purdue he served as staff resident for Cary Hall.

He was a member of the Tippecanoe Historical Society.

Surviving with his wife are one son, W. Bradford of Rt. 2, Brookston; two daughters, Melissa A. Walker of Lexington, KY, and Michelle T. Walker of Winchester, KY; one brother, John C. of Grafton, WI; and one sister, Martha Jo Cabbage of Crawfordsville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association.

Horn Funeral Home in Delphi is in charge of arrangements.

William E. (Bill) Walter, Jr.

May 9, 1912 to November 23, 1996
William Edward (Bill) Walter, Jr., 84, 114 N. Third St., Chalmers, died Saturday, Nov. 23, at Heritage Healthcare Center in West Lafayette. He had been in ill health for the past 1 1/2 years. He had been at Heritage Healthcare for the past two weeks.

He was born May 9,1912 in Parma, OH, the son of William Edward and Alice Page Walter, Sr. His marriage was on October 6, 1941 in Chicago to Helen Curtis who survives.

He had lived in Chalmers since January 1978 coming to the area from Battle Ground.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in WW II where he was a Motor Machinist's Mate First Class. He served from March 26, 1942 through October 5, 1943.

He was a member of the Chalmers American Legion and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Lafayette.

He worked 15 years with Cleveland Diesel Division of General Motors, working in the U.S. and Cuba installing engines in power plants and in Naval vessels. He retired from Texas-Eastern Products Pipe Line Company after 17 years where he was a remote station operator. He also enjoyed sports with his sons and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Walter; 3 sons, Bill of Reynolds, Bruce of West Lafayette, Robert of Lafayette; 1 daughter, Maryanne Walter of Kenal, Alaska. One sister, Mary Alice Jones of Parma, OH, also survives along with 6 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother.

Memorial services will be at Hartzler Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 3p.m. with Pastor Jeff Booth officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Lafayette Urban Ministry, 525 N. Fourth St., Lafayette, IN 47901.

Infant Joseph A. Walts

January 4, 2002
Infant Joseph A. Walts was stillborn at 6:42 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Surviving are his parents, Nathan E. and Amanda Jill Reeser Walts of Dayton; maternal grandparents, Barry and Joy Reeser of Monticello: paternal grandparents Marvin and Lora Walts of Brookston; maternal great grandparents, Rev. James and Marty Copeland of Monticello; maternal great grandmother Norma Reeser of Monticello; and paternal great grandparents Oral and Hazel Flynn of Chalmers.

Private graves ide services were held at Chalmers Cemetery, with Rev. James Copeland officiating.

Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes.

Voorhis-Draper was in charge of arrangements.

L. Emery Walts Sr.

October 12, 1918 to November 17, 1987
Lawrence Emery Waits Sr., 69, Brookston and Salem, Ind., died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the home of his son, Marvin Walts, Brookston, when he had been staying for the past two months.

He was born Oct. 12, 1918 in Washington County, Ind., and lived in Brookston for 20 years before moving to Salem. He came back here two months ago to stay with his son.

Mr. Walts retired nine years ago from United Feeds in Brookston. He was a World War II Army veteran.

He married Ruby Ethel Schults and she died in 1964.

Surviving with his son, Marvin Walts of Brookston, are three other sons, Lawrence Emery Walts Jr., Remington, Daniel Mitchell Walts, Monticello, and Melvin Walts, Romney; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Henderson, Monticello, Mrs. Mary Benedict, Lafayette and Marcella Walts of Palatine, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Edith Martin, Mitchell, Ind.

Also surviving are six great-grandchildren. A sister preceded in death.

Services were at Chastain Funeral Home, Mitchell, Ind., at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment was at Cavetown Cemetery, Campbellsburg, Ind.

Earl E. Wann

February 28, 1915 - October 26, 2001
Earl E. Wann, 86, of Foley, Alabama, a former Chalmers resident, died Friday, October 26, 2001, in Alabama.

He was born February 28, 1915, in Cissna Park, IL, to Daniel B. and Marie Gruessing Wann. He married Jean Naylor on Dec. 17, 1943, in Groton, Conn. She survives.

He had lived in Alabama for the past eight years. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He farmed in Chalmers area for 37 years and was employed by Kenny Implement in Monticello for 23 years. He was also a retired postal carrier in Chalmers.

He served on the boards of the White County Farm Bureau and Frontier School Corp.

He was a member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268 for over 55 years and was Post Commander from 1948 — 1971.

He was a member of Chalmers Community Church.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Dan (Jeane) Wann of Indianapolis; a daughter, Judy (Ron) Hampton of Indianapolis; brothers Ivan (Jean) Wann of Veedersburg, Robert (Sherry) Wann of Indianapolis, Dean (Britt) Wann of Tecumseh, MI., a sister Lucille Lehmann of Bellville, IL and four grandchildren.

Six sisters and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. this morning at Chalmers Community Church with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by Chalmers American Legion Post 268 was in Chalmers Community Cemetery. Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston was in charge of the services.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Barbara S. Ward

February 29, 1928 to March 21, 1999
Barbara J. "Sue" Vanderbilt Ward, 71, of Brookston, died Sunday, March 21st, at St Elizabeth Healthcare, Delphi, where she had resided for 1 1/2 years.

She had been ill for 10 years.

She was born on Feb. 29, 1928 in Lafayette to Harry and Annette Maxwell Vanderbilt She married Richard "Rich" Ward on Oct. 11, 1947 in Delphi. He survives.

She was a 1946 Brookston High School graduate.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Brookston Federated Church.

She was a Gold Star Mother and was a member of Brookston American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving with her husband are three sons, Jim of Whitewater, Wis., Steve of Bloomington, Ill. And Jack of LaGrange; two daughter, Mrs. Mark (Jean Ann) Oneal of Wanatah and Mrs. Robert (Rebecca) Knott of Garrett; two brothers, Max Vanderbilt of Brookston and Herbert Vanderbilt of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Two sons and a brother are deceased.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lelan MeReynolds officiating.

Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.

Louise H. Ward

July 29, 1916 to May 4, 1998
Louise H. (Klinkhamer) Ward, 81, Monticello, formerly of Wolcott, died Monday, May 4, at Twin Lakes Village in Monticello. She had been a resident there since 1994.

She was born July 29, 1916, to John and Mable Buskirk Klinkhamer near Badger Grove in Prairie Township in White County.

She was married May 1,1933, to Robert E. Ward, in Rensselaer. He survives.

She was a member of the Wolcott Baptist Church and had worked at the Indiana Ribbon Factory for 10 years and at Tn-County School Corp. for 13 years.

Surviving along with her husband are 6 sons and 3 daughters; Robert Ward, Jr., Monticello; Charles Ward, Monon; Donald Ward, Monticello; Fred Ward, Chalmers; Joe Ward, Monticello; Rick Ward, Massachusetts; Mrs. Dick (Ella) Bulington, Kentland; Mrs. Robert (Judy) Waymouth, of Walton and Mrs. Ed (Joan) Mitchell, Monticello. A sister, Mrs. Louella Blackwell also survives.

She had 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren.

A brother, son and great grandchild preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral home, Brookston with Rev. David Vanarnan officiating.

Burial will he in Meadow Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hartzler Funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 6th.

Memorials may be given to Wolcott Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
