Lester C. Whitlow
July 28, 1920 - December 26, 2002
Lester C. Whitlow, 82, of Monon, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Jasper County Memorial Hospital, Rensselaer. He had been in ill health for eight months.
He was born on July 28, 1920, in Tompkinsville, Ky. He married Myrna Margaret Skibeli on May 16, 1942, in Crown Point. She died on June 12, 1994.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a Pvt. 1st Class. He served during World War II in the 171st Medical Bn. in northern Europe and central France.
He was employed as a bricklayer for 40 years and with LTDF Steel in East Chicago for 20 years, and was retired.
He moved to Monon in 1987 from East Chicago.
He was a member of Local 6 Bricklayers Union, Merrillville; 32-Degree Mason; Scottish Rite, South Bend; Orak Shrine, Michigan City; and Monon Eagles Lodge.
Surviving are daughters Linda Skaggs of Highland and Lorraine Nie1sen of Griffith; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Skaggs officiating.
Burial with full military rites was at Monon Cemetery.

Helen M. Vedo Whitney
March 21, 1910 to October 12, 1995
Helen M. Vedo Whitney, 85, formerly of Brookston and West Lafayette, died Thursday, Oct. 12, at Regency Place, Lafayette. She had been a resident there since September.
She was born March 21, 1910, to Michael and Mary Hanishan Vedo in Hines, Iowa.
She was married Jan. 10, 1937, to Tom W. Whitney in Frankfort, Kentucky. He died Feb. 12, 1972.
She retired in 1970 from the U.S. Postal Service.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Lafayette, the St. Rita Circle, NARFE, AARP and the Women of the Moose in Indianapolis.
Survivors include a son, Tom William Whitney, Marietta, Georgia; a daughter, Mary Comus Suddarth; Sherwood, Oregon; two sisters, Vernie Dienes, Crown Point and Dorothy Oliphint, Dixon, Tenn.; and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Four sisters and three brothers are deceased.
A funeral mass was held Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Lafayette, with Father David Douglas officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of service.
A graveside service was conducted at noon at Crown Hill Cemetery, West Lafayette.
Billy Gene Whittemore
June 25, 1933 - June 9, 2002
Billy Gene Whittemore, 68 of Monticello, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 in St. Joseph Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN.
He was born June 25, 1933 in Savannah, Indiana, the son of Fred and Johanna Ratcliff Whittemore. He married Charlotte M. Gibbs on March 17, 1973 at Kokomo, Indiana. She died June 22, 1993.
He was retired from Monon Trailer Company in Monon and had lived in Buffalo for 20 years, coming from Kokomo.
Surviving are three sisters, Louise Brown, Moorehouse, MO, Lorene Robbins, Marston, MO, and Lillie Coatney of Moorehouse, MO.
Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation and Graveside Services were held at Chapel Cemetery
this morning with Pastor Jim Ketchen officiating.
Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
Brannon L. Widmer
June 25, 1963 to December 21, 1988
Brannon L. Widmer, 25, Rte. 2, Brookston, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, in Home Hospital. He had been a patient there since Wednesday.
Born June 25, 1963, Lafayette, he graduated from Frontier High School in 1981.
He had attended the school of design at Purdue and had received the state ASID award for interior design.
Mr. Widmer was a member of Brookston United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his parents, Ronald and Leola Jeffries Widmer of R.2, Brookston; and two brothers, Bryan Widmer, Lexington, Ky. and Monte Widmer, Lafayette. Also surviving are his grandmother, Mrs. Lola Jeffries, Brookston.
Service was Friday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. in Brookston United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gene and Katherine Ansell officiating. Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston was in charge of service.
Connie Sue Widmer
July 14, 1955 - April 10, 2003
Connie Sue Widmer, 47, of West Lafayette, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Home Hospital. She had been ill for two years.
She was born July 14, 1955 in Lafayette, the daughter of George and Anna Louise Bollock Purcell. She married Joe Widmer on March 16, 1974 in Otterbein. He survives.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and served on various committees. She coached softball teams and did volunteer work at the Otterbein School. She loved her family and friends.
Other survivors include a son Chad (Sarah) Widmer of Otterbein; daughters, Janelle Widmer of West Lafayette and Whitney Widmer at home; parents Anna and George Purcell, Jr. of West Lafayette; brothers Mike Purcell of Lafayette and George III (Yvonne) Purcell of Otterbein; sisters Janet (Robb) McKinney and Patty (Chuck) Kirtz, both of West Lafayette and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, April 14, 2003 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church with Rev. David Smitley officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
Burial was in Montmorenci Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church or Lindsay McKinney Memorial Scholarship.
Dena M. Wiese
September 19, 1971 to April 24, 1999
Dena Michelle Wiese, 27 of Indianapolis, formerly of Reynolds, died Saturday, April 24, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 19, 1971, in Lafayette, to Roger H and Sue L Ross Wiese of Reynolds.
She was a 1989 North White High School graduate and a 1993 graduate of Ball State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
She was a 10-year member of 4-H.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Reynolds.
She was employed as manager of Things Remembered at Lafayette Square Mall, Indianapolis, where she had received many sales awards including rookie of the year.
Surviving are her parents; a brother Chris "Kim" of Reynolds; a sister, Mrs. Jeffery (Cindy) Campbell of Keene, N.H.; maternal grandparents, Dean and Peggy Ross of Riverside, Calif.; two nephews and a niece; and special friend Bill Jones of Pekin.
Funeral services were Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds, with the Rev. Stephen E. Koenig officiating.
Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello was in charge.
Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery
Reynolds.
Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Childcare Ministry or the North White High School Baseball Complex.
Lorenz H. Wiese
October 7, 1906 to June 29, 1997
Lorenz H. Wiese, 90, Reynolds, died Sunday, June 29, at the Monticello Healthcare Center. He had been a resident there since 1993, prior to that he had lived in the house near Reynolds, all of his life.
He was born Oct. 7, 1906, to Emil G. and Mary M. Bardonner Wiese, in Reynolds. He was married May 5, 1935, to Effie James in Reynolds. She died May 15, 1989.
He served on the White County Farm Bureau Co-op Board of Directors several years and was chairman of that board for 17 years. He also served on the Honey Creek Advisory Board for 16 years.
He was a life-time member of St James Lutheran Church, Reynolds, where he served as trustee and chairman several terms.
Surviving are four sons; Roger L, Reynolds; James L, Phoenix, Arizona; Carl W., Valley Springs, California and Charles A., Apopka, Florida; a sister, Marie Erdmann, Richmond; special friend, Pauline Elliott, Monticello and 14 grand children and five great grandchildren.
Five brothers, a sister and grandson are deceased.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen E. Koenig officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m., tonight, at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home and one hour prior the service at the church.
Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Reynolds.
Memorial donations may be given to the St. James Lutheran Church, Reynolds.
Ray Wiese
January 24, 1922 to July 16, 1989
Ray Wiese, 67, Reynolds, died unexpectedly Sunday, at 1:10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital emergency room, Lafayette.
He was born Jan. 24, 1922, to Robert and Vallie Spear Wiese, in White County. He was married Dec. 26, 1958, to Jan Johnson in Burnettsville. She survives.
He retired from the White County Machine Shop in 1972, after working there for 30 years. He owned and operated Wiese Trailer Court and Sales, in Reynolds, since 1960.
He had lived in the Reynolds area all of his life and was a 1939 graduate of Chalmers High School.
Besides his wife, survivors are two sons, Jerry D., Delphi and Dale A., Reynolds; two daughters, Sandra S. Johns, Monticello and Nancy L. Allman, Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Lee, Logansport; a sister, Zelda Matthew, Rensselaer.
Funeral was conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Yater officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer.
