Helen A. Blume, 79, of Monticello, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at White County Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 21, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the daughter of John and Anna Dvorcin Miller.
She married James T. Blume, Sr., on July 18, 1945 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He died May 28, 1999.
She was a 1941 graduate of James Caughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
A homemaker, she had moved to the Monon Area in 1971 from Lafayette.
She was an avid bird lover.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello.
Survivors include two sons, James T. (Jackie) Blume, Jr., of Avondale, AZ, and Terrance (Carol) Blume, Sr., of West Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. John (Emily) Shevchuk of Wilkes-Barre, PA and Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Malocheski of Wilkes-Barre; fourteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandson.
Five brothers are deceased.
Private services for the family only were at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon on Friday, October 3, 2003, with Father James Goodrum officiating.
Burial was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in Lafayette.
Cheryl Lin Blunk
February 3, 1961 - May 11, 2004
Cheryl Lin Blunk, 43, of Lafayette, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at her residence.
She had been ill for five weeks.
She was born February 3, 1961 in Lafayette, the daughter of Charles and Jeanne Crawford Blunk.
She had lived in Monon previous to moving to Lafayette.
She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.
She participated in the Special Olympics.
Survivors include her mother Jeanne E. Crawford Blunk; and a sister Charlene (Steve) Lee of Monon, nieces Jennifer (Garry) Bower of Monon, Chanda Lee and Mackenzie Lee; great-nieces, Lauren and Kayla Bower; and great-nephew Luke Bower.
Her father Charles Blunk preceded her in death on April 3, 2004.
Funeral services were at the Kellogg Funeral Home on Saturday, May 15, 2004 with Pastor Mathew Pickut officiating.
Burial was in Osborne Cemetery, Rensselaer.
Memorials may be made to the Monon First Response or the Monon United Methodist Church.
Margaret L. Voyles Bowsher
April 1, 1919 - April 13, 2004
We have received word of the death of Margaret Louise Voyles Bowsher, 85, of Saucier, Mississippi, formerly of Monticello, who died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Mississippi.
She was born April 1, 1919, to Merle Voyles of Salem and Lois Giles Voyles of Brookston.
She married Ben Bowsher in 1938.
They had been married 52 years at the time of his death in 1990.
She was a graduate of Brookston High School, Class of 1937.
She moved with her family to Monticello in 1949 from the South Bend/Granger area.
Prior to living with her daughter Barbara and her husband, she and Ben resided at their home in Nokomis, Fla.
They moved from Monticello in 1975 where they maintained a marina and home on Lake Freeman and a farm on Hanawalt Road.
They were members of the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, Fla.
She was a proponent of the arts and encouraged her children to have musical and artistic knowledge.
She was actively involved in community organizations as well as a homemaker.
She was a past-president of the P.T.A. of the Granger (Indiana) School District.
When White County built its hospital, she was one of the first nursing assistants hired.
Later, she trained as a surgical technician.
She was a licensed hair dresser and had a beauty shop at their marina on Lake Freeman.
Surviving are daughters, Barbara (Joe) Kallaher of Perkinston, Miss., and Beverly (Dale) Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; sons, Richard of Fort Worth, and Bruce of Logansport; a half-brother Wayne Voyles of Salem; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned at the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in Sarasota on May 1, for family and friends.
Reimann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Wilma J. Brigance
December 23, 1939 - June 1, 2004
Wilma J. Brigance, 64, of Monon, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at her residence. She had been ill for 3 months.
She was born in White County on December 23, 1939 the daughter of Fred and Ethel I. Cox Maggert.
She graduated from Monticello High School.
She married Harold H. Brigance on February 20, 1965 in Monticello.
He died November 6, 1991.
She had worked at the former RCA plant in Monticello for 16 years and owned and operated the Monon Video Store from 1986 to 2000.
She had lived in Monon since 1965 coming from Monticello.
She was a member of the Monon Eagles Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son Richard Vernon Jr., of Monon and one sister, Judy Loftus of Marengo, Ind.
She had 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Two sons are deceased.
Friends may call at the Kellogg Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Graveside services will be at Bedford Cemetery
at 10:30 a.m. on Friday with Pastor Bill Eisner officiating.
Burial will be in Bedford cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
James A. Bulington
March 25, 1942 - March 12, 2004
James A. Bulington, 61, of Monon, died Friday, March 12, at 3:15 a.m. in his residence.
He had been ill for one year.
He was born at Monon, March 25, 1942, to Lester E. and Gladys (Warren) Bulington.
He married Janet Boyd Reecer Bulington at Monon, February lst, 2004 and she survives.
He had lived in the community most of his life and attended the Monon Schools.
He was a truck driver for 41 years and was a former member of the Monon Eagles Lodge.
Other survivors include sons, James M. (Rose) Bulinglon of Winamac and William P. (Loretta) Reecer II of Rensselaer; daughters, Gloria J. (Tom) Cox of Hobart; Tammy D. (Kent) Musick, Monon and Alice (Mike) Leeann Poore Shoaf of Lafayette; brother, Lester C. (Vivian) Bulington of Buffalo; sisters Gladys Louise Widner of Remington and Dora J. Miller of Remington; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A brother and sister are deceased.
Services were Tuesday at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon, with Pastor Delmas Conley officiating.
Burial was in Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer.
Memorials may be given to Jasper County Hospice.
