Mary Ann Luckett McQuillan
Mary Ann Luckett McQuillan, 77, of Terre Haute died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in her residence. She was an English teacher and was former chairman of English curriculum for the Vigo County School Corp. She was born June 21, 1922, in Terre Haute to Dr. Coen Luckett and Margaret Burns Luckett. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Judge Hugh D. McQuillan; one daughter, Meg McQuillan Lind of Martinsville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Margo McQuillan Lind and Kevin McQuillan Lind, both of Martinsville and Jodi Cutler Foley of Hadley, Mass.; and one great-grandchild, Ben Foley of Hadley. She was preceded in death by one son, Hugh D. McQuillan Jr. She was a granddaughter of the late Dr. L.P. Luckett, a founder of Union Hospital. She was a 1939 graduate of Wiley High School, a 1943 graduate of Smith College in Amherst, Mass., and earned her master’s degree in 1953 from Indiana State University. She was a World War II veteran, having served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a pilot and pioneer in the Women’s Aviation “99ers” headed by Jacquelyn Cochrane. She taught English and composition for 25 years at Deming Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, Gerstmeyer High School and Honey Creek Junior High School. She was active in the Swope Art Gallery Guild, Community Theatre, Republican Women, Country Club of Terre Haute, First Congregational Church, was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother, was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Union Hospital Guild, Quail Creek Country Club of Naples, Fla., Naples Yacht Club, Naples Conservancy and Naples Philharmonic. She was a champion equestrian and a member of the equestrian team at Smith College as well as Junior Champion English Saddlebred Class for Indiana and Illinois. She was an active golfer, tennis player, sailor, traveler and bridge player. Memorial services are 4 p.m. Tuesday in First Congregational Church, 630 Ohio St., with the Revs. Donald C. Mullen and Loyal Bishop officiating. Friends are invited to attend a celebration and gathering immediately following services, at the Country Club of Terre Haute. Cremation, with private burial to follow, is scheduled under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Ida Jane Bova
CLOVERDALE — Ida Jane Bova, 88, of Quincy died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in The Waters in Greencastle. She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Pulaski County, Ky., to William L. Hawk and Elizabeth Inabnitt Hawk. Her husbands, Melvin L. Raney and Frank Bova, both preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, William L. Raney; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Whitaker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Perry officiating. Burial is in Mannan Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Alton Cooper
CLOVERDALE — Alton Cooper, 85, of Paragon died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. He was born Nov. 1, 1913, in Putnam County to Emory Cooper and Minerva Scott Cooper. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn S. Mann and Vicki Chris; one son, Jim Cooper; one brother, Morris Cooper; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday in Whitaker Funeral Home, with the Rev. D. Robert Nees officiating. Burial is in Cloverdale Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

James H. ‘Herb’ Flowers
PARIS, Ill. — James H. “Herb” Flowers, 78, of Paris died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Vencore Indianapolis South Hospital in Greenwood, Ind. He was born May 5, 1921, in Paris to Reese B. Flowers and Lydia Brownley Flowers. His wife, Nellie Middleton Flowers, died April 5, 1978. Survivors include one son, Herbert J.R. Flowers; one daughter, Donnis T. Sinclair; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in Sutton & Son Funeral Home.

Tom Coughlin
Tom Coughlin, 71, of Terre Haute died at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in DuBois, Pa., to James Coughlin and Marie Martinez Coughlin. Survivors include his wife, Carol Roppo Coughlin; two sons, Naylor Coughlin and William Coughlin; one daughter, Marie Dandoy; one stepdaughter, Karen Hart; five sisters, Lucille Leankard, Ruth Senior, Madaline Zimmerman, Marcella Fullerton and Doris Jenkins; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Highland Lawn Cemetery Chapel, with graveside services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Cremation is scheduled. Burial is in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mary Elson
Mary Elson, 78, of Terre Haute died at 5:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in Harborside Healthcare. She was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Cartersville, Ill., to Arthur Evans and Maud Cobble Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Glen Elson. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Whitecotten of Terre Haute and Sandra Tomlinson of Wichita, Kan.; two sons, John Patrick Evans and Glen Elson, both of Terre Haute; one brother, Jack Evans of Kokomo; 10 grandchildren, Amber Burke, Chris Burke, Derrick Burke, Andrew Gorder, Rebecca Gorder, Erin Taylor, Bryce Elson, Krista Elson, Dianna Heath and Mathew Whitecotten; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bob Evans; and two sisters, Leona Davis and Ethelle Rudolph. She was a member of Good Shepard Baptist Church. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Manbeck officiating. Burial is in New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Jessie J. 'Judy' Goodwin
Jessie J. "Judy" Goodwin, 78, of Terre Haute died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13, 1999, in Meadows Manor North Retirement & Convalescent Center. She was a cook. She was born April 24, 1921, in Hymera to Oscar Chesnutt and Bessie Mize Chesnutt. Survivors include her husband, Robert N. Goodwin; four daughters, Shiela DeMoss and her husband Tom DeMoss of Mishawaka, Marilyn Kubiak of South Bend, Alice Lawson and her husband Doug Lawson of Fort Wayne, and Paula Highsmith and her husband Lee Highsmith of Terre Haute; one son, Harley Chalk and his wife Gail Chalk of Michigantown; two stepdaughters, Patricia Dickerson and her husband Carl Dickerson of West Terre Haute and Roberta Prouse and her husband Paul Prouse of Terre Haute; one stepson, David Goodwin of Decatur, Ill.; twin sister, June Overpeck of Rockville; sister, Avis Crist of Ocala, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wilma Chesnutt and Joan Bright; and one brother, Ruel Chesnutt. She was a member of Victory Christian Church in Seelyville, a member of Church of God, American Legion Post 104 Ladies Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Ladies Auxiliary. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Callahan Funeral Home, with the Revs. Frank Smith and Randy Ballard officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Gayle McGlone Hopewell
Gayle McGlone Hopewell, 85, of Kingston, Tenn., and formerly of Farmersburg and Terre Haute, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in Royal Care of Harriman, Tenn. She was born May 22, 1914, in Sullivan County to Zeb C. McGlone and Jennie Hamilton McGlone. Her husband, Robert Allen Hopewell, died earlier. Survivors include one daughter, Alice Moore; one son, Robert Hopewell; one sister, Virginia Miller; two grandsons; and two granddaughters. Services were Nov. 7 in Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. Burial was in Kingston Memorial Gardens.

Shirley A. Kling
Shirley A. Kling, 66, of Terre Haute died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in her home. She was born April 23, 1933, in Terre Haute to Ralph Abbott and Ruth Poorman Abbott. Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca D. Nadin and Dana A. Meyer; two sisters, Margie Downey and Joy Washburn; three grandsons; and one granddaughter. There are no services or visitation. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Clydeus Versalie Miller
Clydeus Versalie Miller, 77, of Terre Haute died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Texarkana, Texas, to Clyde Linton and Golden Jackson Linton. Her husband, Monroe Miller, died earlier. Survivors include two grandsons; six granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Russell Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Flint officiating. Burial is in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Thursday.

Rev. Richard 'Rick' Philpott
The Rev. Richard "Rick" Philpott, 48, of West Terre Haute died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in his home. He was formerly pastor of the Caring Center Church of God in Terre Haute. He was born July 1, 1951, in Bloomington, Ind., to John Philpott and Emily Butcher Philpott. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Curtis Philpott, whom he married July 14, 1968, in Bloomfield, Mo.; three daughters, Jeanette Ashley and her husband Jerry, and Michelle Fisher and her husband Scott, all of Terre Haute, and Amanda Philpott of West Terre Haute; two brothers, Jerry Philpott of Bloomfield, Mo., and Deward Philpott of Dexter, Mo.; three sisters, Shirley Ashley of Seelyville, Donna Jean Albertson of Bloomfield, Mo., and Vicky Nunn of Advance, Mo.; four granddaughters, Brooke Philpott, Brittany Fisher, Allison Ashley and Amber Ashley; one grandson, Aaron Ashley; and special friends Chris and Gwen Noll and their daughter Kirston Noll of West Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Danny Philpott. He had also worked in the maintenance department at Hamilton Center. He was ordained as a minister through the Church of God Cleveland, Tennessee branch. He served as pastor of Maranatha Church of God in Fort Wayne and evangelism director for the Fort Wayne District Church of God for several years. Services are 3 p.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home in West Terre Haute, with the Revs. Greg Hitchcock, Randy Ballard and Carlos Cox officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Thursday.

LaDonna Dietz Ring
LaDonna Dietz Ring, 65, of Terre Haute died at 11:07 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 11, 1934, in Riley to Hubert Eli Dietz and Dorothy Hunter Dietz. Survivors include her husband, Robert Jay Ring; one daughter, Wanda Sullins of Terre Haute; one brother, Larry Dietz I and his wife Pamela Dietz of Winter Park, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Hanley and her husband Robert Hanley, and Sheila Fagg and her husband Fred Fagg, all of Terre Haute; two nephews, Gary Fagg and Larry Dietz II; three nieces, Sheri Ring, Cathie Bryant and LaRysa Marietta; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one great-niece, Anne Marie Dietz. Services are 2 p.m. today in First Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Keith Taylor officiating. Burial is in Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery. DeBaun Springhill Chapel assisted with arrangements.

Helen G. Weddle
Helen G. Weddle, 65, of Terre Haute died at 5:46 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She had worked at the former Topp's department store and at Osco Drug Store. She was born May 28, 1934, in Troy, Ind., to Frank Gramelspacher and Teresa Linne Gramelspacher. Survivors include her husband, Charles Weddle; one daughter, Belinda Yowell and her husband Paul of Terre Haute; two sons, Stephen Williams of Terre Haute and Gregory Williams of Heritage Lake; one stepson, Christopher Weddle and his wife Susan of Florida; two stepdaughters, Kathy Padgett and her husband George of Terre Haute, and Pam Palmer and her husband Larry of Indianapolis; four granddaughters, Melissa Yowell, Lacey Williams and Crystal Frey and her husband Jacob, all of Terre Haute, and Ashley Williams of Heritage Lake; three grandsons, Brandyn Fox and Stephen H. Williams, both of Terre Haute, and Christopher Williams of Florida; two stepgrandsons, Travis Weddle of Florida and Todd Padgett of Terre Haute; four stepgranddaughters, Riley Weddle of Florida, Jennifer Padgett and Kelly Padgett, both of Terre Haute, and Ellie Palmer of Indianapolis; two sisters, Sister Anna Gramelspacher and Mary Wirthwein and her husband Roy, all of Ferdinand; one brother, James Gramelspacher and his wife Mick of Jasper; one brother-in-law, Rupert Mulles of Tell City; and special friends, Rod Williams and Barbara Barnes. She was preceded in death by one sister, Bernadine Mulles; one brother, Francis Gramelspacher; and one grandson, Warren Hollifield. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge. Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday in The Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Giannini officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Ralph Eugene Goldsberry Jr.
MARSHALL, Ill. - - Ralph Eugene Goldsberry Jr., 38, of Marshall died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in his home. He was born Dec. 3, 1960, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Ralph Goldsberry and Betty Sanders Goldsberry. Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Goldsberry; his mother and stepfather, Betty Jenke and Richard Jenke; his father and stepmother, Ralph Goldsberry and Rebecca Goldsberry; three sisters, Terrie Patterson, Patty Goldsberry and Renee Hughes; two brothers, James Goldsberry and Jesse Goldsberry; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 7 p.m. CST today in Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Foster officiating. Cremation is scheduled. Visitation is 5 p.m. until services today.

Lewis A. Martin
CLOVERDALE - - Lewis A. Martin, 77, of Marion and formerly of Cloverdale died at 6:32 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion. He was born July 6, 1922, in Hendricks County to James Corbette Martin and Margaret Darnall Martin. Survivors include two sisters, Effie Irene Hamilton and Lois Juanita McMillen; two brothers, Ralph Eugene Martin and Arthur Allen Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Whitaker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Woody Thompson officiating. Burial is in Cloverdale Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday.

Cyril William Means
PARIS, Ill. - - Cyril William Means, 91, of Paris died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in Paris Health Care Center. He was born Feb. 1, 1908, in Paris to Charles Means and Margaret Murphy Means. His wife, Mary A. Rourke Means, died Sept. 3, 1995. Survivors include one sister, Louise Means Matsek; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. CST Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Overmann officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home, with wake prayer service at 5:30 p.m.

Emma Lou Perrin
EDGAR, Ill. - - Emma Lou Perrin, 77, of Edgar died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in BoxWood Healthcare Center in Newman. She was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Edgar to Jossie Board. Her husband, William Preston Perrin, died Nov. 22, 1994. Survivors include one sister, Maxine Julian, and several nieces and nephews. Public graveside services are 2 p.m. CST Thursday in Hoult Cemetery north of Paris, with Pastor Ken Martin officiating. Visitation is private. Smith Funeral Home in Paris assisted with arrangements.
