Harley "Dutch" Crabb
BRAZIL - - Harley "Dutch" Crabb, 103, of Brazil died at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Clay Health Center, where he had resided since March 23, 2001. He was a clay worker at American Vitrified for 52 years. He was born July 16, 1897, in Brazil to Robert Crabb and Lilly Chapman Crabb. His wife, Mary "Maid" Shaffer Crabb, whom he married Oct. 4, 1919, died Dec. 25, 1998. Survivors include his children, Donald Crabb and his wife, Carol, James Crabb and his wife, Mary, and Betty Morris, all of Brazil, and Norma LeMay and her husband, Bill of Reelsville; 15 grandchildren, Barry Crabb, Gary Crabb, Tracey Crabb, Jimmy Crabb, Harold Ray Crabb, Larry Joe Crabb, Cindy Porter, Donald Terry Crabb, Timmy, Tony and Tammy Schurick, Terri Standley, Billie Jo Crabb, Harley "Dutchie" Crabb and Judy Eberle; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Beatrice Embry; two sons-in-law, Clayton Embry and William "Bunk" Morris; two brothers, Fred Crabb and "Pete" Silas Crabb; five sisters, Ruth Crabb, Lucy Winn, Nell Minnick, Ivy McGraw and Sylvia Young; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren. Following his retirement, he worked for the Brazil Police Department. He was one of the veterans who organized the first American Legion Post in Indiana, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127, a charter member of the Brazil Eagles Lodge, serving as president several times and also serving in other offices. He was the last surviving Clay County resident who served in World War I. He enjoyed hunting when younger, and gardening and picking strawberries. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in French Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial is in Clearview Cemetery, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 2 and VFW Post 1127. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today, with military walk-in at 6:30 p.m., and before services Friday.

Delema C. Hale Godsey
WORTHINGTON - - Delema C. Hale Godsey, 77, of Worthington and formerly of Linton died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Greene County General Hospital in Linton. She was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Greene County to Alpha Hamilton and Delpha Bowling Hamilton. Her first husband, David Hale, died in 1961; her second husband, Ernest Godsey, died in 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry McFarland and Barbara Morrison; two brothers, Jasper Hamilton and Vernon Hamilton; two sisters, Mary Huey and Wilma Woodward; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Newkirk Funeral Home in Dugger, with burial in Morris Chapel Cemetery near Dugger. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.

Frank Leslie Loftis
CASEY, Ill. - - Frank Leslie Loftis, 85, of Casey died at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Gainesville, Mo., to William Curry Loftis and Maud Mae Riggs Loftis. Survivors include his wife, Anna Kennedy Loftis; two sons, Eldon Loftis and Howard Loftis; one daughter, Wanda Brown; one brother, Claud Loftis; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday in Markwell & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Danny Harper officiating. Burial is in Restitution Cemetery, south of Casey. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Dessa Mae Martin
CLAY CITY - - Dessa Mae Martin, 90, formerly of Clay City died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Tipp City, Ohio. She was born June 22, 1910, in Huntington to Albert Jones and Nancy Ellen Beard Jones. Her husband, Leo Ruben Martin, died in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Mona Lee Martin and Frona Pond; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Chandler officiating. Burial is in Beech Cemetery. Visitation is noon until services Friday.

Jean E. Montgomery Miller
SULLIVAN - - Jean E. Montgomery Miller, 41, of Indianapolis died Sunday, April 1, 2001. She was born Dec. 28, 1959, in Hammond to Sarah Anderson Miller. Survivors include children, Mary Ellen, David Lee and Joe Montgomery; her mother; and one sister, Candice Carr. Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. today in Shirley Brothers Drexel Chapel Mortuary in Indianapolis.

Carl G. Toby
NEWPORT - - Carl G. Toby, 73, of Covington and formerly of Vermillion County died at 1:58 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Georgetown, Ill., to Shelby Toby and Annie Brown. His wife, Maxine Randles Ping Toby, died Sept. 12, 1989. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Wanda Hayden and Connie Julian; one sister, Anne Peterson; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Shelby Funeral Home, in Covington, with the Rev. William C. Nickle officiating. Burial is in Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. and Fireman's memorial services.

Walter Boyd Vaught
MARSHALL, Ind. - - Walter Boyd Vaught, 97, of rural Marshall, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in his residence. He was a farmer and was retired from Allison Division of General Motors Corp. in Indianapolis. He was born Aug. 2, 1903, in Parke County to Sherman Vaught and Mattie Barron Vaught. His wife, Mary Purcell Vaught, whom he married Sept. 28, 1934, in Bloomingdale, died April 3, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Donald Vaught of Marshall and Roger Vaught of Valdosta, Ga.; two daughters, Judith Francis of Terre Haute and Beverly Long of Indianapolis; one sister, Leona Mendenhall of North Vernon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters. He was a graduate of Bloomingdale Academy. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Barnes Mortuary in Rockville, with the Rev. David Wise officiating. Burial is in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Judith Ann Waller
CASEY, Ill. - - Judith Ann Waller, 59, of Casey died at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. She was born May 14, 1941, in Casey to Glen Walden Boyd and Geneva June Shafer Boyd; Survivors include her husband, Vern Waller; two sons, Jimmie Waller and Richard Waller; two daughters, Verna Reynolds and Lori Cown; her mother; three sisters, Nora Williams, Juanita Remlinger and Glenda Letner; and 13 grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Markwell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial is in Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Darwin Kane Carson
Darwin Kane Carson, infant son of Jon Carson and Carissa Sigle of Terre Haute, was born and died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Union Hospital. Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Brianna Sigle and MaKaysia Carson; one brother, Elijah Carson; and grandparents, Fred and Brenda Sigle and Charles Carson and Carol Carson. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Roselawn Chapel of Memories. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Betty June Deverick
Betty June Deverick, 62, of Terre Haute died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Union Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Nov. 23, 1938, in Brazil to Reynold Schultz and Helen Schultz; Survivors include her husband, Charles Deverick Jr.; two stepsons, Duane Edward Deverick of Graysville and Lee Martin Deverick of Fort Wayne; one stepdaughter, Tracy Sue Cooper of Terre Haute; two sisters, Shirley Pearce of Indianapolis and Imogene Schultz of Brazil; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services are 2 p.m. today in Roselawn Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Nancy Sedletzeck officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.
