Doris P. Wolheter
January 06, 1917 - January 10, 2009

Doris Pauline Wolheter, 92, of Kendallville died Saturday, January 10, 2009, in Shepherd of the Hill, Kendallville where she had resided for 2 ½ years.

Mrs. Wolheter moved to this area at the age of seven from Constantine, Michigan. She had worked as a proofreader at the LaGrange Standard and retired from A-1 Production of Kendallville in 1979. She was a member of the South Milford United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Friendship Club, and was a 4-H leader.

She was born icon January 6, 1917, in St. Joe County, Michigan, to Homer Leroy and Minnie (Smittendorf) Slentz. On February 27, 1935, in South Milford, she married icon Leland M. Wolheter.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet Gorman of Ralston, Nebraska; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Bonita Wolheter of Wolcottville and R.D. and Julia Wolheter of Wolcottville; seven grandchildren and their spouses, John and Kim Wolheter of Wolcottville, Rev. James and Jenny Wolheter of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America, Rev. Jeff and Andrea Wolheter of Kendallville, April and Jose Aguinaga of Glendale, Arizona, Wil Gorman, III and Bernadette Gorman of Omaha, Nebraska, Kara and Matt Dunker of Goshen, and Neal and Lydia Wolheter of Wolcottville; 13 great grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Dustin, Coy, Cy, Cade, Wesley, Ethan, Elizabeth and Reese Wolheter, and Liam, Libby and Finnegan Gorman; and one sister, Dorothy Traster of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and a sister, Elsie Baker Singleton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the South Milford United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barbara Cross officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Baker, Mike Baker, John Traster, and David Traster. Active pallbearers will be John Wolheter, James Wolheter, Jeff Wolheter, April Aguinaga, Wil Gorman, Neal Wolheter, Kara Dunker, and Matt Dunker.

Calling will be Tuesday, January 13, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Preferred memorials are to the South Milford United Methodist Church or Gideon's International.

Twana S. McPherson
March 16, 1953 - January 10, 2009

Twana S. R. McPherson, 55, of Kendallville died Saturday, January 10, 2009, in her residence. She had an extended illness.

Mrs. McPherson was a lifetime area resident. She was a homemaker.

She was born icon March 16, 1953, in Kendallville to Richard and Aften Esther (Dunkel) Rupert.

Surviving are two daughters, Twana Maurer of Waterloo and Amanda McPherson of Monroeville; a son, Larry Hall of Churubusco; seven grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Hall of Kendallville; and two brothers, Leroy Rupert and Steve Rupert, both of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Wayne McPherson.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the True Church of God in Jesus' Name at Lisbon with Pastor Sonny Stanley and Pastor Willie Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.

Calling will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009, after 3:30 p.m. at the church.

Rodney Owens
September 16, 1968 - January 11, 2009

Rodney Alden Owens, 40, of Wolcottville died Monday, January 12, 2009, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Owens had worked at Double Tree RV in Howe for four years. He was a member of Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Rome City and coached little league baseball in Rome City.

He was born icon September 16, 1968, in LaGrange to Alden and Reva (Boggs) Owens. He was married icon June 6, 1992, in Rome City to Melinda Herendeen.

Surviving are his wife, Melinda Owens of Wolcottville; a daughter, Maecee Owens, at home; two sons, Rodney Owens, Jr. and Tyler Owens, at home; his parents, Alden and Reva Owens of Wolcottville; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Alda and David Nissen of Wolcottville, Rita Hunter of Kendallville, Teresa and Troy Sams of LaGrange, and Terri and Kevin Leedy of Wolcottville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Anthony Owens and his companion, Myra Conley of LaGrange and Ray and Norma Cochran of Auburn; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steve and Marge Herendeen of Rome City.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Christian Baptist Church, 2838 E US 6, Kendallville with Pastor Billy Smith and Pastor Lemuel Dees officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Paul Miller, Dave Nissen, Kenny Barden, Mike Edwards, Matt Herendeen, and Terry Wertz.

Calling will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 700 Kelly Street, Rome City. Preferred memorials are to the family. An account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank under Melinda's name.

Alfred Rimmel
September 02, 1926 - January 12, 2009

Alfred I. Rimmel, 82, of LaGrange died Monday, January 12, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange where he had resided since 1982.

Mr. Rimmel had formerly lived in Fort Wayne, coming from Kendallville. He was a music instructor, and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and the U.S. Army.

He was born icon September 2, 1926, in Brimfield to Howard and Ethel Rimmel.

Surviving are a daughter, Adlen Graff of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Chris Rimmel of Fort Wayne, David Ott of Venice Beach, California, and Doug Ott of Kendallville; and two great grandchildren, Cody Coyer and Paige Rimmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marion Rimmel, and a sister, Phyllis Ransbottom.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.

Calling will be Friday, January 16, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Parkview Noble Home Health and Hospice.

Chad Edward Showen
February 29, 1972 - January 13, 2009

Chad Edward Showen, 36, of Kendallville died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Garrett.

Mr. Showen was a lifetime area resident. He had worked in production maintenance at Kautex in Avilla. He was a member of the American Legion in Garrett, and was a U.S. Army veteran of Desert Storm.

He was born icon February 29, 1972, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to Scott and Terry (Siples) Showen. His parents survive in Kendallville.

Also surviving are a son, Greg Edward Showen of Avilla and a brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Crystal Showen of Fort Riley in Clay Center, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dale and Loma Siples and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Marion Showen.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Military services will be provided by VFW Post 2749, Kendallville. Burial will be in the New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana.

Calling will be Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the family.

C. Richard Holmes
June 13, 1932 - January 14, 2009

C. Richard Holmes, 76, of Sylvan Lake, Rome City died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.

Mr. Holmes retired as a driver for Roadway Express. He was a U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City, American Legion Post 381, Rome City, and a life member of the VFW in Alliance, Ohio.

He was born icon June 13, 1932, to Clyde and Eva (Greenhorn) Holmes. In 1991, in Fort Wayne he married icon Georgia Charleston.

Surviving are his wife, Georgia Holmes of Rome City; three daughters and a son-in-law, Terri and Bill Strickland of Akron, Ohio, Tracy Adams of Fort Wayne, and Susi Russell of Fort Wayne; six sons and three daughters-in-law, David Holmes, of Akron, Ohio, Tom Holmes of Akron, Ohio, John and Angie Holmes of Akron, Ohio, Russell Holmes of Akron, Ohio, Jeff and Vickie Russell of Madison, Wisconsin, and Mitchell and Jennifer Russell of Forsyth, Georgia; 28 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City, with Father Bernard Ramenaden officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery. Military services will be provided by American Legion Post 381.

Calling will be Friday, January 16, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Noble Home Health and Hospice.

Julia A. (Judy) Hoot
May 10, 1943 - January 18, 2009

Julia A. (Judy) Hoot, 65, of Rome City died Sunday, January 18, 2009, in her residence at Jones Lake following a two month illness.

Mrs. Hoot retired after 30 years of working in the office at Sears in Glenbrook Mall. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, Kendallville.

Her glory was her family. She was affectionately known as Grandma at the Lake by her great grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, and was one of the first women to participate in local bass fishing tournaments. She and her husband often took their bass boat to fish in Lake Erie, but she especially enjoyed going out in her pontoon on Jones Lake. She also liked to cut and arrange the flowers that her husband planted and weeded. She wrote poetry, and loved the Lord. But, her passion in life was to tell others about Jesus.

She was born icon May 10, 1943, in Garrett to Wilbur and Janet (Sauder) Swander. On November 15, 1959, in Garrett, she married icon Nick R. Hoot. He survives in Rome City.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Brinkman of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Norm Brinkman of LaGrange, and Christina and Todd Walters of Auburn; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Melissa Hoot of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Nicole and Jeremy Meade, Heather and Jeremy Randol, Ryan Samuels, Adam Hoot, and Jackie Hoot; seven great grandchildren, Bryanna, Courtlan, Becca, Madison, Bryson, Dylan, and Jacob; a sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Jack Reynolds of Auburn; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kim and Joan Swander of LaOtto.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Pastor Tom Dyson of Fellowship Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Todd Walters, Norm Brinkman, Jeremy Randol, Jeremy Meade, Adam Hoot, Lynn Reynolds, and Brian Reynolds

Calling will be Thursday, January 22, 2009, from 2 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Fellowship Bible Church Building Fund.

Wilbur H. Ernsberger
September 05, 1927 - January 19, 2009

Wilbur H. Ernsberger, 81, died Monday, January 19, 2009, in St. Joe Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Ernsberger was a farmer, and worked at Newnam Foundry in Kendallville for over 30 years. His favorite way to spend time was with his family. He was well known for his quick whit and one-liners.

He was born icon in LaGrange County on September 5, 1927, to Theodore W. and Eva G. (Hart) Ernsberger. He married icon Treva J. (Emerick) Ernsberger in Kendallville on September 3, 1954.

Surviving with Treva, his wife of 54 years, are a daughter and son-in law, Sherrie and Richard Dalrymple of Kendallville; three sons and daughters-in law, Kerry and Tena Ernsberger of Avilla, Roy and Lori Ernsberger of Kendallville, and Ray and Lilian Ernsberger of Kendallville; a daughter-in-law, Carol Ernsberger of Kendallville; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Wava Schindler, and Dorothy Windle, and a son, Greg A. Ernsberger.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 22, 2009, at 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Brian Walter of the South Milford Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling will be Thursday, January 22, 2009, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.
