January 23, 1928 - January 19, 2009

Manford J. “Jerry” Ober, Jr., 80, of Kendallville died Monday, January 19, 2009, at 11:42 p.m. in St. Joe Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Ober was a retired farmer, and a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and did so on a daily basis.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed very much by his family.

He was born icon January 23, 1928, in Garrett, Indiana, to Manford and Valera “Belle” (Lung) Ober. On June 3, 1949, in Columbia City he married icon Margaret Marker.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Ober of Kendallville; a son, Michael Ober of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Tara Wolf of Kendallville, Amy Wenning of Rome City, Nicole Ober of Fort Wayne, Jessica Ober of Denver, Colorado, and Jeremy Ober of Angola; seven great grandchildren, Amber Goodwin, Ashley Goodwin, Brandon Wolf, Kayla Wenning, Dequan Ober, Janyah Ober, and Thomas Michael Healy; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and John Wittkamper of Knightstown, Indiana; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert Ober, Harold Lee and Roberta Ober, and Larry and Judy Ober all of Albion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Dennis Ober.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Sam Weimer and Pastor Orlo Hibbs officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Casketbearers will be Tim Slone, Steven Rummel, Steven Scheurich, Jimmie Williams, Jeremy Robertson, and Doug Jones.

Calling will be Friday, January 23, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.

Dorothy Helen Sexton
June 23, 1924 - September 20, 2008

Dorothy Helen (Bigelow) Sexton, 84 died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 5:50 p.m. At Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

Mrs. Sexton was born icon June 23, 1924 in Kendallville to Donald & Gertrude (Barnhart) Bigelow.

On September 27, 1946 she married icon Warren R. Sexton, Jr., who preceded her in death on October 8, 1993.

She was a 1942 graduate of Kendallville High School and a 1945 graduate of Indianapolis Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She worked on the staffs of Indianapolis Methodist Hospital, Riley Hospital, Lafayette Home Hospital, and McCray Memorial Hospital. She also worked several years as a private duty nurse in DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, and Allen counties. She retired in 1983 from active nursing after a career as a registered nurse spanning over 30 years. She was a life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kendallville.

She is survived by four children, Julie & Jack Ramage of Somerville, TX; Carol & John Blume, Beth & Douglas Rohlfing, and Randolph “Randy” & Debra Sexton all of Kendallville. Also survivng are six grandchildren, Heather Rohlfing; Gretchen Ahmed; Travis Blume; Jason Blume; Matthew Sexton; and Jennifer Sexton; and one great grandchild, Mackenzie Blume.

Services will be Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist with Rev. Steve Brittenham officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. Honorary casketbearers will be David Baker, James Britten, James McClure, and Sherman Strawser. Active casketbearers will be Jason Blume, John Blume, Travis Blume, Douglas Rohlfing, Matthew Sexton, and James Dazey.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 3-8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 S. State St. Kendallville and Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 9-10 a.m. at the church.

Shane A. Terry
December 30, 1976 - February 17, 2010

Shane A. Terry, 33, of LaGrange died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at 9:47 a.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Terry was a factory worker. He attended One Truth Christian Outreach in Ashley.

He was born icon December 30, 1976, in Post, Texas.

Surviving are his wife, Carmen (DiGirolamo) Terry of Kendallville; two daughters, Haylee Terry of Kendallville and Emma Terry of Stroh; a son, Noah Terry of Stroh; two stepsons, Jaden DiGirolamo of Kendallville and Jared DiGirolamo of Kendallville; his father and mother, Rodney and Marilyn (Day) Terry of LaGrange; his biological father and stepmother, Jerry and Linda Pearson of Corunna; two sisters, Amy Rathbun of Fort Wayne and Alexandria Pearson of Corunna; and five brothers, Jerry Pearson, Jr. of LaGrange, James Pearson of LaGrange, Scott Pearson of LaGrange, Jacob Pearson of Corunna, and Dylan Terry of Stroh; grandfather, Robert Day of Florida; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 5 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Paul Slone of One Truth Christian Outreach officiating. Burial will be private.

Calling is Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the family.

Carrie R. Kline
March 16, 1925 - February 19, 2010

Carrie Rose Kline, 84, of Kendallville died Friday, February 19, 2010, at 10:45 p.m. in Kendallville Manor HealthCare Center, Kendallville.

Mrs. Kline had worked at A & P Foods, Food Town, Rogers, and Maloley grocery stores. She retired from the meat department of Maloley Brothers on April 30, 1981.

She graduated from Garrett High School in 1944. She was active in Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority and enjoyed being an Alumni of Garrett High and attending the class reunions.

She attended Wayne Center Methodist Church, Kendallville. She was a charter member of the Charm and Chatter Home Extension Club, and held several offices. Mrs. Kline enjoyed traveling, playing euchre at the Youth Center, and attending grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities. She was a member of the Solo Club.

She was an excellent cook and enjoyed serving. She loved spending time with family and friends, and will always be remembered for her wonderful smile and how beautiful she looked in the color pink.

She was born icon March 16, 1925, in Garrett to George F. and Ione (Squires) Schulthess. She married icon Robert Barker Kline on November 2, 1945, in Garrett. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1994, after 49 years of marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Kline had farmed several years at their Schoolhouse Road residence.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Jayne & Don Olsen of Moffat, Colorado, Connie & Terry Helmer of LaGrange, and Judy & Bob Bollinger of Kendallville; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom & Karla Kline of Kendallville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Scott & Michelle Olsen of Moffat, Colorado, Jon & Nikki Olsen of Auburn, Kasey & Micah Findley of South Whitley, Michelle & Glenn Wright of Kendallville, Cori & Rob Yoder of LaGrange, Matt Bollinger of Kendallville, Arin & Ben Shaffer of Auburn, and Jason & Hillary Kline of Angola; 11 great grandchildren, Kyle Olsen and Kaytlin Olsen both of Moffatt, Colorado, Ryan Olsen of Auburn, Cole Findley and Mikayla Findley both of South Whitley, Taylor Wright and Dalton Wright both of Kendallville, Charlie Yoder and Carigan Yoder both of LaGrange, Selah Bollinger and Lincoln Bollinger both of Kendallville, and William Robert Kline of Angola; and one sister and brother-in-law, Martha & Emmett Lovett of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Peggy Jo Kline; three sisters, Dorothy Warford-Vasquez, Jane Grube, and Mildred Delong; and a brother Robert Schulthess.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Sherry Long of Wayne Center Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Honorary casketbearers will be Scott Olsen and Dick Warford.

Active casketbearers will be Jon Olsen, Matt Bollinger, Jason Kline, Bill Lovett, Tim Grube, Dan Grube, and Paul Grube.

Calling is Monday, February 22, 2010, from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Kendallville Manor HealthCare Center outdoor family area.

Lawrence T. Coker
January 02, 1935 - February 23, 2010

Lawrence Thomas Coker, 75, of Kendallville died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in his DeKalb County residence.

Mr. Coker was a lifelong area resident. He had worked at International Harvester in Fort Wayne for 20 years.

He was born icon January 2, 1935, in LaGrange County to Newton & Sarah (Brooks) Coker.

Surviving are a daughter, Kim Lantz of Topeka; and three sons, Lawrence Coker of North Manchester, Rick Coker of Wolcottville, and John Coker of Orlando, Florida.

There will be no visitation or services.

Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Johnny Combs
January 01, 1943 - February 26, 2010

Johnny Combs, 67, of LaGrange, Indiana died Friday February 26, 2010 at Bluffton Regional Hospital in Bluffton, Indiana.

Mr. Combs was born icon January 1, 1943, in Perry County, Kentucky, to Truman and Stella (Miller) Combs. He was married icon April, 1961, in Fisty, Kentucky, to Joyce Ritchie. She preceded him in death on April 1, 1975.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Elana Joyce & Fred Mann of Florida; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronnie Joe & Jimmie Gail Combs of LaGrange and David Lee Combs of Angola; four grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy & Jim Hollifield of Big Turkey Lake, and Helen Fugate of Kentucky; and a brother and sister-in-law, Morris & Patty Combs of Stroh.

He was preceded in death by a son Johnny Darrell Combs on April 1, 1975.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Community Baptist Church, Wolcottville with Rev. Lee Combs officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery.

Calling is Tuesday, March 2, 2010, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, Wolcottville.

Preferred memorials are to the family.

Hassell (Rex) Bentley
March 03, 1941 - March 01, 2010

Hassell "Rex" Bentley, 68, of Rome City died Monday, March 1, 2010, at 1:35 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Bentley retired from Silgon Plastics in Ligonier after 37 years of service. He was an outdoorsman and an avid fisherman. He liked to do woodworking, and loved family outings.

He was born icon March 3, 1941, in Hindman, Kentucky, to Luther and Lona (Taylor) Bentley. On December 23, 1961, in Hindman, Kentucky, he married icon Colleen Gibson.

Surviving are his wife, Colleen Bentley of Rome City; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen & Michael Sawyer of Wolcottville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth Bentley of Rome City and Michael & Brooke Bentley of Rome City; six grandchildren, Shawn Sawyer and his friend Jolee Stauffer, Crystal Sawyer, Alex Rex Sawyer and his friend Joanna Dyesse, Jessica Campbell, Kaylee Layne Bentley, Damon Michael Bentley; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Lily Combs of Leesburg, Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Tootsie Bentley of Hindman, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Chester & Eddie Craft.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Paul Bentley, and a nephew, Derrick Tolvier.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Salem United Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Ray Tuttle officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Casketbearers will be Shawn Sawyer, Alex Rex Sawyer, Billy Ray Bentley, Tim Bentley, Bobby Bentley, and Homer Bentley.

Calling is Wednesday, March 3, 2010, after 5 p.m. and all day Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the church. There will be an evening service at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Faith E. Marti
March 23, 1935 - March 02, 2010

Faith E. Marti, 74, of Kendallville died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in her residence.

Mrs. Marti had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Edgar Miller. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.

She was born icon March 23, 1935 in Kendallville to Russell & Alice (Eddy) Perkins. On December 31, 1953, in Kendallville she married icon Robert N. “Bob” Marti. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2010.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Roxann & Bill Ebert of Kendallville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Suzanna Marti of Jones, Michigan, and Michael & Vikki Marti of Huntertown; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Doyne & Judy Perkins of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Marti; and a brother, Robert Perkins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 S. Oak Streeet, Kendallville, with Rev. Paul B. Griebel and Rev. Robert Shriner officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Jason Stroup, Robert Marti, Jr., Bill Ebert, Shane Harshman, Brandon DePoy, and Tom Pippenger.

Joyce N. Diggins
June 29, 1923 - March 06, 2010

Joyce Needham Diggins, 86, of Kendallville died Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne.

The melody of her life lifted us all. Joyce always had a song in her heart, a flower in her garden and a kind word for everyone. Her belief in the goodness of mankind never failed her and her humility and passion for life was infectious.

Joyce was a devoted daughter and sister, cherished by none more than her nieces. She gave of her talents and passion freely, playing her beloved piano for Rotarians, Methodists, Baptists, friends and family. She was a compassionate and dedicated teacher; someone many of her students kept in touch with during their adult lives. Joyce’s fierce independence and self-sufficiency was inspirational to all who knew her. We will miss the sunshine our beloved “AJ” brought into our lives.

A graduate of Ball State Teacher’s College, Joyce Diggins retired after 39 years of teaching elementary school in Elkhart, Middlebury, and 28 years at North Side School in Kendallville. Always active in the community, Miss Diggins was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Hats, Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.

Miss Diggins was born icon June 29, 1923 in Wolcottville and preceded in death by her parents Harold Howard and Ruth Marie (Needham) Diggins, two brothers, Donald R. Diggins, LaGrange and Vance W. Diggins, Empire, Michigan.

Surviving are seven nieces: Barbara Walter (Ernest), Anderson, S.C.; Elaine Flynn (Terry), Moab, UT; Sally Marie Shepherd, Albuquerque, NM; Jan Diggins (Wilbur Montgomery), Indianapolis, IN; Martha Gerlach, Albuquerque, NM; Cathy McKinley (James), New Palestine, IN; and Nancy Gleffe (Robert), Grand Rapids, MI; and two nephews, Vance W. Diggins (Jane), Berthoud, CO and; John H. Diggins (Karen), Far Hills, NJ and 21 great nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Young Family Funeral Home, 222 South State Street, Kendallville on Thursday, March 11, 2010, 3:00p.m. until 6:00p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, March 12, 2010 at 1:00p.m. in Trinity Church United Methodist, Kendallville, with Pastor G. Scott Pattison officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Preferred memorials are to Trinity Church United Methodist or the Eastern Star.

Robert N. (Bob) Marti
January 22, 1935 - February 16, 2010

Robert N. “Bob” Marti, 75, of Kendallville died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 7:39 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Marti retired as an iron worker for Local 147 in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. Bob was a talented handyman.

He was born icon January 22, 1935, in Avilla to Raymond and Alma (Hammel) Marti.

On December 31, 1953, in Kendallville he married icon Faith Perkins.

Surviving are his wife, Faith Marti of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Roxann and Bill Ebert of Kendallville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Suzanna Marti of Jones, Michigan, and Michael & Vikki Marti of Huntertown; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Gail Marti of South Milford.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Marti; two brothers, Donald Marti and Richard Marti; and a sister, Doris Schlotter.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 S. Oak Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Paul Griebel and Rev. Robert Shriner officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
