Ruth Gottschalk

Ruth Eiliene Gottschalk, 83, of California Township, Michigan died Friday, June 15, 2007, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola.

Mrs. Gottschalk was a homemaker.

She attented Coldwater (Mich.) High School. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies also included sewing, knitting and upholstery.

She was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Kinderhook Township, Mich., to Bert and Audrey Bell (Spade) Allen. She married L.B. Charles "Bud" Gottschalk on Dec. 17, 1941, in Sandusky, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1983.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, William "Butch" Gottschalk of Montgomery, Mich. Charles "Chuck" and Susan Gottschalk of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Jerry Lee and Vickie Gottschalk of Maumee, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Norm Exelby of Coldwater; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Charles, John, Jeff, Marianne, Jay, Jamie, Shelley, Melissa, and Jeremy; five great-grandchildren, Chase, Molly, Matthew, Chipper and Garrett; a sister, Loraine Gottschalk of Angola, a son-in-law, Irving Wright of Battle Creek, Mich.; and special friends Ed and ShirleyMerriman of Coldwater.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jonnie Lou Wright; a sister, Ilo Kowatch; and a brother, Clifton Allen.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Knauss cemetery in Kinderhook Township, Mich., with the Rev. Lynn Eicher officiating. Burial will follow.

Calling is private.

Memorials are to St. Jude's Hospital or the charity of the donor's choice. A special Thank You goes to the staff members at Lakeland Nursing Center for their care of Mrs. Gottschalk.

Dawn Gary
Dawn Cherie Gary, 43, of Angola died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Gary was a homemaker who formerly worked at Cam Shaft Machine Company in Orland.

She loved animals, especially taking care of her horses. She attended Prairie Heights High School.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1964, in Angola, to John and Bonnie (Aaron) Book. Both survive. She married Tracy "Dude" Gary on Oct. 31, 1995, in Fremont. He survives. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Criss Henderson and his fiancee Tomi Rastetter of Kendallville, and Senior Airman Chad and Stacy Henderson of Moore, Okla.; three stepdaughters and a spouse, Christina and Sheldon Eicher of Fremont, Samantha Gary of Angola, and Victoria Gary of Fremont; two grandchildren, Lexie and Leiny; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Chad Hyska, and Tammy and Chip Wagner, all of Angola; a brother, John Book of Angola; and a grandmother-in-law, Sally Mingus of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by a brother Gregory John Book.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Sept. 7, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, with the Rev. Greg Chupp officiating. Burial will be in Flint cemetery in Angola. Calling will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are to the family.

Lila Word
Lila L. Word, 83, of Angola, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Cameron Memorial in Angola.
Mrs. Word was a retired telephone operator and supervisor at the GTE Phone Co. in Angola.

She was a 1941 graduate of Scott Center High School. She enjoyed her cats, peacocks, gardening and also helped to work on the family farm.

She was born March 20,1924, in Scott Township to John and Iva (Wilkinson) Tasker. She married Carlton "Tubby" Word on March 7, 1944, in Angola. He survives. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews, Shirley Dudeck, Jerry Bice, Roger Swick, Bobby Swick, Delores Wygant and Jonni Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Bice; and a brother, Herman Swick.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday Sept. 8, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, with the Alan Word officiating. Burial will be in Circle Hill cemetery in Angola. Calling will begin 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. service time at Beams Funeral Home.

Memorials are to the Steuben County Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Robert Henry Justice
Robert Henry Justice, 83, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Todd-Aikens Health Center in Franklin. He was a longtime resident of Franklin.

He was born July 15, 1916, in Boone County. His parents were Edwin Henry and Mabel Claire (Bush) Justice. He married Jean Elaine Myers on June 7, 1941, in Monroeville. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Sandy J. Brown of Franklin; two sons, John R. H. Justice and Jeffry T. A. Justice, both of Franklin; one sister, M. Lorena Marlin of Franklin; one brother, Paul L. Justice of Zionsville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a business education teacher at Allen and Dekalb County schools and at Franklin Community High School from 1961 until his retirement in 1981. He was also co-owner of Justice Lumber Co. in Franklin with his father from 1956 to 1961.

He graduated from Burris High School in Muncie in 1934. He also graduated from Ball State University in 1938 with a bachelor of science degree in education; Purdue University, with a bachelor of arts degree in education in 1956; and Indiana University, with a master’s degree in education in 1967.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin, where he was an elder and a diaconate. He was a leader for several years of Boy Scouts of America Troop 228 in Franklin and an Eagle Scout. He was a charter member of the Franklin Lions Club since 1938, serving as past president and secretary. He was also a member of Franklin American Legion Post 205 and Indiana State Retired Teachers Association.

Dr. Michael B. Garvey will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home in Franklin and for one hour prior to service at the church. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township, with military graveside service by Franklin American Legion Post 205.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Christian Church, 198 N. Water St., Franklin, IN 46131; or Franklin Lions Club, c/o Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home, 197 E. Jefferson St., Franklin, IN 46131.

Paul Grimes
Paul Grimes, 78, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at his residence in Greenwood.

He was born March 19, 1922, in Greencastle. His parents were Paul and Alma (McGill) Grimes. He married Marjorie June (Stewart) Grimes. She preceded him in death in 1980. He married Jan M. (Ullrich) Grimes on Oct. 9, 1999, in Greencastle. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Charles Grimes of Columbus and Kim Grimes of Freeport, Ill.; four stepsons, Joe Davis and Chad Davis, both of Indianapolis, and Chris Davis and Matthew Davis, both of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Shelly Davis of Indianapolis; one sister, Willadene Humphrey of Greencastle; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Grimes, Firman Grimes and Bill Grimes.

He had been an IHSAA official for more than 30 years in Indiana and especially in Johnson County. He had also been the owner of Hoosier Sporting Goods in Columbus for five years and an instructor at the Atterbury Job Corps for 15 years. In the mid-1960s, he served a director of parks and recreation for the city of Franklin.

He was a member of Rocklane Christian Church and Indiana Retired Officials Association.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Hill cemetery in Greencastle.

Forest F. Greiling
Forest F. Greiling, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood.

He was born April 20, 1916, in Green Bay, Wis. His parents were Henry and Mary (Benecke) Greiling. He married Helen (Pierce) Greiling. She preceded him in death March 10, 1952. Survivors include a son, Warren Greiling of Greenwood; a daughter, Lynn Brethauer; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was employed for many years by U.S. Mining Group of Engineers, retiring in 1976.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Schauer and Schumacher Funeral Home in Green Bay, Wis. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Burial will be Woodlawn cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.

George D. Decker
George D. Decker, 57, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin.

He was born March 2, 1943, in Greenwood. His parents were Lester L. and Rosa F. (Logsdon) Decker. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa A. Smith and Tina J. Wyrick, both of Franklin; a brother, William H. Decker of Franklin; a sister, Betty L. Bay of Franklin; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary L. Decker; and an infant brother.

He was a 1961 graduate of Franklin Community High School.

He had been employed at Franklin Power Products for the past 17 years.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn cemetery in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children for Heart Wing and Diabetes Wing, 702 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202.

Margaret Truax- Soots - February 12, 2012
Margaret L. Allee Truax Soots, 83, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 at IU Health Bloomington. She was born August 9, 1928 in Owen County to Lincoln and Floy (Cradick) Allee. She was a 1946 Spencer High School graduate. Margaret worked at RCA for twenty years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Spencer United Methodist Church.

Roy O. Prows - February 18, 2012
Roy Oxford Prows, 82, of Spencer, passed away at IU Health Bloomington on February 18, 2012. He was born in Money Creek Township, Illinois on November 28, 1929 to William and Lona May (Gibson) Prows. Mr. Prows worked at Ralph's Muffler Shop in Indianapolis before he started working for railroad companies beginning in 1948 for Penn Central, then CSX and most recently for AMTRAK as a mechanic. Roy is survived by his wife, Juanita (Collins) Prows.

Dennis "Denny" Line - February 18, 2012
Dennis "Denny" E. Line, 60, of Freedom, passed away at his residence Saturday, February 18, 2012. He was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on November 18, 1951 to Karl E. and Patricia (Franklin) Line. Dennis was a former Owen County Deputy Sheriff, Spencer Police Officer, Gosport Town Marshall, Metro Police Officer in San Antonio, Texas, and a member of the Bexar County SWAT team. He also was the owner and operator of Star Security.

Rosalie Frank - February 19, 2012
Rosalie Virginia Hauser Frank of Patricksburg, Indiana died Sunday, February 19, 2012. Rose, the youngest child of William Henry Harrison Hauser and Selma Dayhuff Hauser, was born March 30, 1928 in Owen County. Visitation will be Friday at her family church, Antioch Christian, between 11- 1 with service following. Rose worked at the Spencer Evening World, the US Geological Survey at Indiana University, and retired from Hoosier Energy.

Floyd 'Bus' Kay - February 29, 2012
Floyd "Bus" H. Kay, 83, of Freedom, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. He was born in Jordan Village, Owen County on November 19, 1928 to Horace and Ruth Elizabeth (Meek) Kay. He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Floyd worked at Navistar for 27 years, retiring in 1990 and he farmed for his father for years. Bus was a member of the Freedom Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years.

Elizabeth Jones - February 29, 2012
Elizabeth Rachel Jones, 64, of Spencer, passed away at her residence, Wednesday, February 29, 2012. She was born July 5, 1947 in Indianapolis to Frank and Ruth Anne (Crouch) Roberts. She worked as a Senior Business Process Lead for Boston Scientific in Spencer and was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church. Liz enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, crocheting, singing, and spending time with her grandkids.
