Wayne Stantz

November 23, 1931 - February 02, 2012

Wayne Richard Stantz, 80, of Coal City, IN went home to be with his Lord, on February 2, 2012 in Seymour, IN following a short illness.

Wayne was born November 23, 1931 the son of Paul and Woneta (Young) Stantz. He graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1950. Following high school he pursued a career with the railroad as an engineer and retired after 35 years and served a two year term with the United States Army.

Wayne married Mary Kathryn Horn on March 13, 1954.

Wayne was a member of the Coal City Church of Christ, where he served as the treasurer. He was a volunteer fireman and an EMT, a member of American Legion Post 141 in Coal City, and a member of the Coal City festival committee. In his free time he enjoyed visiting shut ins and nursing home residents, but most of all spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife: Mary Kathryn.

He is survived by his daughters: Kala Fay Unverzagt (Kurt) of New Palenstine, IN, Kathy Lynn Barker (Jeff) of Seymour, IN; grandchildren: Becky Jo Yancey (Aaron), Brent Barker (Heather), Cari Ann Roberts (Jason), Brad Barker (Rachel), Kylene Steward (Dustin), Kristy Hutchinson (Jesse); 16 great grandchildren; sister: Freida Jones; along with many extended family members, and his loyal dog Cash.

Service will be held on February 6, 2011 at 11am at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with burial following at Fiscus cemetery. Visitation will be February 5, 2011 from 4- 8 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Coal City Church of Christ Camp Fund.

James Gregory Loveall

April 15, 1986 - June 05, 2013

James Gregory “Greg” Loveall, 27, of Brazil, died June 5, 2013 in Terre Haute.

He was born in Brazil April 15, 1986 the son of Jack Lee and Janis (Keeler) Loveall. He had attended Northview High School, The Cumberland Academy and the LEAAP Center. Greg had worked for the City of Brazil for a period of time. He truly enjoyed fishing and spending time with his best friend Mike Gonser and Mike’s family. He also enjoyed watching the Indiana Hoosiers Basketball, Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts.

Greg was very proud of his family heritage especially his maternal grandfather’s service to his country during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack Lee Loveall.

He is survived by his mother Janis Loveall and a sister Tresa Loveall as well as many aunts, uncles and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at Benwood Church, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1:00pm. Cremation services have been entrusted to French Funeral Home.

James "Jimmy" R. Grey

July 16, 1951 - February 20, 2012

James R. “Jimmy” Grey, 60 of Brazil died February 20, 2012. He was born July 16, 1951 in Clay County the son of Warren Grey and Virginia Devlin Grey. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1969. On August 31, 1973 he was united in marriage to Luann Young Grey. He attended Indiana State University and in 1979 he began ownership of Grey’s Automotive Supply. He owned and operated the business until 2009. He stayed on with the business part time for the past 3 years. Jim also had a love for business opportunities. He would look for a “good deal” on buying a house and then do some fixing up and later sell on contract so a family could have a home. He was respected for his knowledge of business and trends in the Brazil area.

You also couldn’t know Jim without knowing about his fascination for bicycles. He was known to collect the unusual and the eye-catching bike. He was also known for his collection of hats and currently had enjoyed seeking out unique automobiles. He also was an avid runner in the past, but lately he had been sticking with walking their newest four –legged friend, Jenny. Yes, we have to also remember his long time friend, Forrest. Forrest was the best trained corgi ever; always at Jimmy’s side. Jim used the phrase that Forrest was his soul mate.

Jim and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Brazil Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his father Warren Grey.

Survivors include his wife Luann Grey of Brazil; their daughter Megan Grey Bayler and husband Jared of Terre Haute; his mother Virginia Grey and brother Philip Grey, sister Sue Ann Grey all of Brazil; and a large circle of very close friends and neighbors.

At his request, cremation will take place with a Celebration of his life to be held on Friday at 7:00pm at Lawson-Miller Chapel. Friends may gather from 5-7.

Honorary pallbearers will be Les Miller, Jeff Cope, Jeff Chamberlin, Doug Williams, Harvey Roscoe, John Roach, and Matt Rains.

Jim also requested that memorial contributions be made in his honor to the Clay County Humane Society, 8280 N CR 125 W, Brazil, IN 47834, and the family strongly encourages friends to do so.

George Thomas Edwards

August 28, 1921 - February 13, 2012

George Thomas Edwards, 90, of Brazil, passed away February 13, 2012 following a short illness with his family by his side.

George was born August 28, 1921 the son of George and Anna (Syster) Edwards. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1942 and served three years in European tour. Some of the decorations he received were: American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal World War II. Upon returning he married Elmora Maxine Hayes on December 24, 1945. George worked for the Plainfield Correctional Facility, where he retired in 1984.

George was an avid gardener, loved being in the outdoors, and especially spending time with his cat and a bird.

George was preceded in death by his parents; George and Anna; sister: Hannah Reba; brother: William Edwards.

He is survived by: his wife: Elmora Maxine; Son: Jack Edwards; Daughter: Harriet Guinther and husband James of Staunton; Grandson: Michael Long and wife Sarah of Brazil, Darin Long and wife Christine of Nolensville, TN, JD Edwards of Brazil, Brad Edwards of Brazil; granddaughter: Melissa Kline and husband Billy of Brazil; great grandchildren: Corbin, Nick, Evan, Allie, Nathan, Drew, Thomas, Devon, Shelby, Bradley, Carson, and Lauren; great great grandchildren: Kaydence and Nolan.

Service will be Friday February 17, 2012 at 7:00 pm with Larry Richmond officiating. Visitation will be at 4:00pm until the time of service.

Russell "Rusty" Walden

March 21, 1962 - February 16, 2012

Russell “Rusty” G. Walden, 49, of Coal City, went to be with the Lord February 16, 2012 at 3:05pm at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis following a lengthy battle with respiratory disorders.

Rusty was born in Clay County, Indiana March 21, 1962, the son of Edgar and Joan (Love) Walden. He graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1980. He married Shannon Miller July 14, 1990 at the Lawton Street Christian Church, in Jasonville, IN. Rusty spent much of his life working as a heavy equipment operator at several area coal mines.

Rusty enjoyed hunting, fishing and maintaining the Good Hope Baptist Church Camp Ground. He loved spending time with his family and friends and going on golf cart rides with his dog Brandi.

He was a faithful member of the Good Hope Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Joan (Love) Walden Hockman.

Rusty is survived by his wife Shannon of Coal City; daughters: Kristen Downs (Shawnon) of Evansville and Taylor Walden of Coal City; son Justin Walden of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Destiny Anderson, Austin Walden, and Brailyn Walden; siblings: Ginger Eib (Bob) of Bradenton, Fl, Peggy Lamneck (Gene) Rome, GA, Eddie Walden (Carol) Jacksonville, FL, Steve Walden (Michelle) of Terre Haute, Susan Walden Hutson (Kevin) of Terre Haute, and Terry Walden (Diana) of Middlebury; a very special Golden Retriever Brandi; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be at Good Hope Baptist Church, 440 W. Co. Rd. 850 S. Clay City, IN 47841, Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 3:30pm. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St. Clay City, Saturday from 3pm until 8pm and again Sunday from 1:30pm until time of services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Rusty’s name to Methodist Health Foundation c/o Transplant Center P.O. Box 1367 Indianapolis, IN 46206.

Debra Lynn Cox

May 11, 1952 - February 19, 2012

Debra Lynn Cox, 59 of Brazil passed away at her home February 19, 2012 with her family at her side. She was born May 11, 1952 in Clay County the daughter of Jim Gerber and Mabel Johnson Gerber. She graduated from Van Buren High School, Class of 1970.

On August 25, 1985 she married Delbert R. Cox. He survives.

In the past she worked at Movie Gallery and at the BP Gas station, but for the past several years she has been at home. She loved reading, bird watching and feeding. Plus she enjoyed feeding corn to the squirrels.

She was active in several organizations including, American Legion Post #2, VFW #1127, the Marine Corp League, Clay Youth League. She was very active in the Brazil Moose Lodge and the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Club.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Mary Johnson and Roy and Ruth Gerber and a step-son, Brian Cox in 1967.

Survivors include her husband Delbert Cox of Brazil; children, Brad Cox, Billie Jo Thompson (Todd) of Brazil, Karen Cass (James) of Brazil, Chris Cox (Lori) of Greenville, S.C., and Barry Cox (Carolyn) of KY; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 5 sisters, Karen Stearley (Eric), Janet Little (Steve), Donna Raines (Jim), Lisa Taylor (Gretta), and Jamie Chrisman (Doug); many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Services will be held Thursday at 1:00pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Steve Brattain officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 with at tribute from the women of the American Legion Post #2 and VFW #1127 at 6:30 followed by the Women of the Moose Lodge.

Donations may be made to Mooseheart Child City School, Mooseheart, IL. 60539. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Joseph L. Maccarone

December 27, 1948 - February 20, 2012
Joseph L. Maccarone, 63, of Carbon, passed away unexpectedly, at his home, February 20, 2012

Joe was born December 27, 1948, in the Bronx, New York City, New York the son of Louis Joseph and Mary (Basasi) Maccarone. Joe graduated from Christiana High School with the class of 1967. His favorite job in Delaware was head chef at the Horseless Carriage. He married Sally E. Miller on February 9, 1974.

They left Newark, Delaware soon after their wedding for a honeymoon road trip across the United States. Along the way they stopped in Laughton, Oklahoma to visit with his sister, north to Estes Park, Colorado and then landed in Centerpoint, IN for “a short camping trip”. In 1978 they moved to Carbon, IN and he began working for the United States Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier in Brazil and more recently in Rockville. He retired from the postal service in 2007. During retirement he enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, gardening and taking care of his land.

Joe will be remembered as having great zest for life and was very passionate about everything he did.

He had tremendous energy and stamina which carried with him to his last day. Joe also enjoyed politics, history, and enjoyed his sense of humor and sharp wit.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Mary Maccarone and a nephew Jody Patchell.

He is survived by his wife Sally of Carbon; three sons: Joseph D. Maccarone of Pekin, IN, Michael Maccarone and wife Chrisy of Centerpoint, IN and Lou Maccarone of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Jessica E. Maccarone, Joseph Anthony Maccarone, Chassidy Maccarone, Courtney Maccarone, and Jacob Maccarone; siblings: Tony Maccarone and wife Brenda of Tampa, FL, Margaret Digilio of Tampa, FL, Marie Nagy and husband Roger of Spring Hill, FL as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
