Roland "Tub" Sturm

81, Indianapolis passed away January 31, 2008. He was born July 19, 1926 in Southport to the late Harry and Alta Mozee Sturm. Roland married Phyllis Anderson on June 19, 1949 in Indianapolis and she survives. He was an Army Air Corps veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood. He was owner of Sturm Steel Treating for thirteen years retiring in 1996. His other survivors are daughters Sharon (Wendell) Riddle, Lebanon, Kris (John Schaefer) Sturm, Indianapolis; sons Mike (Adonness) Sturm, Mooresville, Robin (Paige)Sturm, Martinsville; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister Mildred Constable, Cleveland, OH; brothers Raymond Sturm and Richard (Roxann) Sturm, both of Indianapolis. He was also preceded in death by son Glenn Sturm, brothers Howard and Harvey Sturm. A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7 at First Baptist Church of Greenwood with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorial gifts have been suggested to Kidney Foundation of Indiana or American Heart Association. Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center is handling arrangements.

Daniel A. Johnson

60, Beech Grove, formerly of Indianapolis passed away February 5, 2008. He was born February 14, 1947 in Indianapolis to the late Harry and Valeria (Lafferty) Johnson. He married Peggy Showecker November 21, 1987 in Indianapolis and she survives. Daniel's memberships include Holy Cross Catholic Church and The Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America. He was employed as a vocational teacher 10 years at John Marshall High School, 10 years at Washington High School, and 13 years at Manual High School. He had previously worked 10 years for Bryant Heating and AC. He is also survived by his daughters Daniele (Alp) Berker and Larissa (Brian) Blakley, both of Indianapolis; step-son Chas. Michael (Lacey) Spark, Indianapolis; brother Gary (Kim) Johnson, Noblesville; sister Nadine Suits, Indianapolis, nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Harry and Mark Johnson and Jerry Howe. A memorial service will be conducted 7:00 PM, Friday, February 8 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation two hours prior to the service.

Robert A. Kaster

Robert 'Bob' A. Kaster, 74, Greenwood formerly of Southport passed away January 27, 2008. He was born November 11, 1933 in Beech Grove to the late Allen and Rose Marie Marksbury Kaster. Bob was co-owner and operator thirty nine years of Village Flower Shop and Gallery retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. His survivors include his partner of thirty eight years, Garry Lee Williams, Greenwood; sisters Rose Ann (Norman) Liggett, Bloomington, Inez (Doug)Yohler, Indianapolis; brothers Ronald Paul (Sue) Kaster, Indianapolis and Russell Lee Kaster, Indianapolis; sister-in-law Sandy Cottey, Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother Richard Kaster. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation one hour prior to service. Memorial gifts have been suggested to Parkinson's Awareness Association of Central Indiana or Alzheimer's Association.

William Thompson

89, Indianapolis, formerly of Fortville, died January 24, 2008. Mr. Thompson was born May 3, 1919 in Sullivan County, Indiana. He was the son of the late William and Florence (Langford) Thompson. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Mary L. (Robbins) Thompson. Also preceding him in death were three sister: Gladys E. Hancock, Rebecca C. Karrer, and his twin, Florence E. Wheeler. Surviving Mr. Thompson are his daughter Mary Carolyn Stumpf, her husband Richard and their children Natalie and Andrea; and his son James A. Thompson, his wife Shelly (Fogleman) and their son Drew.
Mr. Thompson was a vocational instructor at the Knightstown Children's Home retiring in March 1986. He was a 75-year member of F&AM Lodge #3 in Carlisle, Indiana. Mr. Thompson was an avid history buff especially interested in American Indians and the Civil War. In retirement, he and his wife traveled to many civil war battle fields and Indiana burial grounds. Mr. Thompson used his artistic talent and professional sign-painting ability to volunteer numerous hours at Fortville's Parks: Memorial and Landmark. In 1995 he was recognized by the town for his service and was named Fortville Optimist Club's Man of the Year.
A burial service was conducted on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Center Ridge cemetery in Sullivan. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hancock County Humane Society in his name.

Roberta Altman

98, passed away January 30, 2008 with her family by her side. She was born October 16, 1909 in Indianapolis to the late John Carl and Roberta Elizabeth (Gettier) Hornung. She was employed for 25 years by Eli Lilly retiring in 1972 as a manager. After retirement she moved to Bradenton, Florida. She lived there 11 years, returning to Indianapolis at age 83. She loved to oil paint and garden. Her family will truly miss her.
Survivors include her daughters Gladys Ann Reece, Indianapolis, and Joan (Walter) Schaler, Indianapolis; sister Verina (Robert) Mayer, Greenwood, 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother John Hornung and sister Gladys Clark. A memorial service will be conducted 3:30 P.M., Sunday, February 3, 2008 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, 6111 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.

Mildred A. Wood

95, Indianapolis, passed away February 1, 2008. She was born May 22, 1912 in Green County, Indiana to the late J.D. and Clementine Musser Cunningham. Mildred married William Jennings Wood in 1932 at Indianapolis, who passed away in 1976. She had been employed at Link Belt as an office clerk. Her memberships included Southport Heights Christian Church, Prospect Chapter No. 452 Order of Eastern Star over 50 years and a former member of Wheeler Mission Ministries Auxiliary. Mildred is survived by nieces Velma Spears, Danville, Margery Swartz, Acton, Pamela Moreland, Indianapolis, Mary McKee, Terre Haute, Marilyn McKee, Terre Haute, and nephew Toby Cunningham, Detroit; as well as several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by sisters Velma Roberts and Wilma Hanes; brothers Roy, Harvey Russell, and Lester Cunningham. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 5 at Washington Park East cemetery. Memorial gifts have been suggested to the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Arrangements by Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center.

Kenneth Emmett John

74, Indianapolis passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007. He was born July 21, 1933 in Belvidere, IL to the late Emmett and Eva John. He married Etta Imogene Newlen June 28, 1958 In McConnelsville, OH and she survives. Kenneth was an U.S. Navy veteran and later was employed 30 years by Fluor Daniel Corp., retiring 1997 as an inspector. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 25 F.& A.M. in Athens, OH. Survivors include his son Chris John, Indianapolis; daughters Cindy (Andy) Evans, Portland, OR, and Valerie (Chris) Scherrer, Indianapolis; and grandchildren Bryan John, Thomas, Daniel, and Whitney Scherrer, and Alexandra Evans. He was also preceded in death by his brother Robert John. A memorial service will conducted 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 13 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with a visitation gathering two hours prior to the service at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to Community Hospital of Indiana Hospice, 1500 North Ritter Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219.

James Emory Eads

90, Indianapolis passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007. He was born July 17, 1917 in Junction City, KY to the late Simon and Ina Lee Prows Eads. He married Elizabeth Marie Matthews October 16, 1945 in Indianapolis who preceded him in death April 5, 1990. James was an U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a third generation printer. He founded Triangle Printing in 1947 and retired in 1990. He was a member of Southport Christian Church. Service 12:00 P.M., Saturday, October 6 in Southport Christian Church with visitation two hours prior to the service at the church. Survivors include his son Jim (Nina) Eads, Indianapolis; sister Becky (Joe) Walls, Avon Park, FL; grandchildren Jeanette (Leonard) Ray and Eric Eads both of Indianapolis. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Memorial contributions have been suggested to The Living Memorial at Southport Christian Church. Arrangements handled by Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center.

Paul McCallister

Paul R. McCallister, 79, Indianapolis passed away December 8, 2007. He was born April 5, 1928 in Decker, IN to the late Riley and Uda Cain McCallister. Paul married Marjorie Frederick on May 10, 1945 in Decker and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2002. He then married Joyce Acton on May 5, 2002 in Indianapolis. He was employed forty-one years at General Motors retiring in 1988 as a supervisor. His memberships included Center United Methodist Church; The Independent Order of Foresters; Camp Farthest Out and former member of Meadlawn Christian Church and his hobby was woodworking. Survivors include his beloved wife Joyce Acton Powell McCallister; daughters Gayle Barnett, Pinellas Park, FL; sons Steven McCallister, Pinellas Park, FL, Gregory (Linda) McCallister, Indianapolis, Kevin (Jackie) McCallister, Indianapolis; step daughters Sandra (Charles)Pruitt, Lapel, Judith (William() Turpin, Marion, Esther Burris, Indianapolis, Janie (John)Fulmer, Greenwood; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; fifteen step grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; sisters Ada Thompson, Hazelton, Alma (Robert) Whitsell, San Dimas, CA and brother Marvin (Sophia)McCallister, Carmel. He was also preceded in death by daughter Paula McCallister, step daughter Brenda J. Derocher, stepson David Powell and a step great grandchild. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 12 at Center United Methodist Church, 5445 Bluff Road. Visitation will be 3 -8 p.m., Tuesday, December 11 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at New Crown cemetery. Memorial gifts have been suggested to Center United Methodist Church or Association of CFO.

Jessie Byington

Jessie M. Byington, 105, Indianapolis passed away December 3, 2007. She was born August 10, 1902 in Martinsville to the late Sal and Ollie Parker. Jessie married Harold Byington and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1981. She is survived by grandchildren Jim (Charlotte) Murdock, Scott (Tracey) Murdock and Jay Byington; seven great grandchildren; sisters Gertrude Wright, Martinsville, Pauline Burns, Camby and Daisy Schoolcraft, Indianapolis, caregiver and very dear friend Pat Paul, Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by daughter Patty Murdock; son Jack Byington; sisters Eunice Parker, Frances Kivett; brothers Ludwig Parker, Gene Parker and Delbert Parker. She had been a member of Prospect Chapter No. 452 Order of Eastern Star.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 5 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Washington Park East cemetery. Memorial gifts have been suggested to American Cancer Society.

Mildred Meador

Mildred Marie Jones Meador, Franklin formerly of Indianapolis passed away December 3, 2007. She was born May 15, 1928 in Sumner County, Tennessee to the late Sam U. and Emma Bloodworth Jones. Having survived polio as an infant and a near fatal car crash in adolescence, she was an honors graduate of White House (TN) High School and a graduate of Nashville Business College. She worked at the Tennessee Society for Crippled Children and the Methodist Publishing Co. in Nashville, TN prior to her marriage to William Walter Meador on November 17, 1950.
A resident of Indiana since 1953 Mildred was a full time homemaker and a part-time bookkeeper for various companies and individuals including American Plumbing and Mid-State Erectors. Prior to her residency at the Indiana Masonic Home, Mildred was a member of Tuxedo Park Baptist Church. An active member of the Order of the Eastern Star until her death, Mildred held dual membership in Southport Chapter No. 442 and Nettie Ransford Chapter No. 606 O.E.S.. She is a Past Worthy Matron of Eminence Chapter No. 546 O.E.S.. During her 18 year residence at the Indiana Masonic Home she held numerous positions including volunteer, current events leader and President and Secretary of The Medical Center Residents Council.
Preceded in death by her husband, she is survived by her son Lanny William (Judy) Meador, Indianapolis; daughters Penelope Ann Fischer (Jerry Duneitz), Rockville, MD and Pamela Meador Nickell, Indianapolis; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister Mabel Webb, Scottsville, KY and brother William Paul Jones, Nashville, TN. She was also preceded in death by sister Margaret Louis Jones and brother Floyd Edward Jones.
Services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 6 at Indiana Masonic Home, Kresge Chapel. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 5 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center and one hour prior to the service Thursday. Order of Eastern Star memorial service will be Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Franklin, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nettie Ransford Chapter No. 606 Order of Eastern Star.

Josephine Feeney

91, Greenwood, passed away November 29, 2007. She was born July 5, 1916 in Hayden, New Mexico to the late Clark and Elizabeth Deinken Swarm. Josephine married William F. Feeney on January 28, 1943 in Lebanon and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1973. She was a member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church. Her survivors include daughters Janet S. (Michael) Garrison, Indianapolis, E. Rosanne (Robert) Marusa, Noblesville and Rosalie Ross, Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and sister Lucille Swarm, DC, Evansville. She was also preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Gagle and Catherine Swarm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Perry Senior Citizen Services, 6900 Derbyshire Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Monday, December 3 at Cicero cemetery in Cicero, Indiana.

Wesley Fleenor

82, Greenwood, formerly Indianapolis, passed away November 17, 2007. He was born August 4, 1925 in Salem, Indiana to the late Joseph and Virtle (Newby) Fleenor. Wesley married Macile Forsee June 11, 1947 in Indianapolis and she survives.
He was a 1944 graduate of Shortridge High School and served our country in the U.S. Army during the WWII era. He was an independent fee appraiser and had previously operated Fleenor Realty. He also had been employed at AUL and Pitman Moore.. His memberships and accomplishments include being the first recipient of the Johnson County Environmental Medal, life member of Greenwood Sertoma, associate director of Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, former chairman of Johnson County Democratic Party, graduate of Methodist Hospital Clown School, and chairman of Merry Medics of Methodist Hospital Volunteer Program. Wes also served as a volunteer Santa Claus and was an active Boy Scout volunteer. He was a member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church and for many years Southport United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include his sons Stephen (Margee) Fleenor, Greenwood, and John (Mary Jane) Fleenor, Indianapolis; daughter Gretchen (David) Bonesteel, Kalamazoo, MI; grandchildren Brian and Jeff Bonesteel, Brad (Melissa) Fleenor, Aimee (Gabe) Hollander, Patrick, Chelsea and Jake Fleenor; great grandchild Molly Fleenor; and sisters Helen Carter, Indianapolis and Kathleen Rhoades, Georgia;.
Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 20, at Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 W. Stones Crossing Rd., Greenwood with visitation 4:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday, November 19 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Glenns Valley. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the charity of donor's choice.

Helena Hand

89, Greenwood passed away November 16, 2007. She was born August 22, 1918 in St. Augusti ne, FL to the late Edison and Gertrude Weigand Hunter. Helena married Donald M. Hand and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1995. Her memberships included Center Grove Presbyterian Church and a past member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Jensen Beach, FL. She is survived by sons Gary (Bonnie) Hand and Scott Hand, both of Greenwood; grandchildren Douglas Hand of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey and Kelsey and Christa Bates of Evansville A Memorial Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.

Naomi V. Miller

Naomi V. Miller, 88, Indianapolis formerly of Gosport, passed away October 25, 2007. She was born March 4, 1919 in Martinsville to the late Albert W. and Bona Wampler Fisher. Naomi married Burless Miller on July 3, 1948 in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1989. Her memberships included Fleming Garden Christian Church and a 50 year member of Corinthian Chapter No. 456 Order of Eastern Star. Her survivors are daughters Dianna Kay (Charlie) Craft and Janet Lee (Bob) Thomson, both of Greenwood; grandchildren Dave (Kim) Mears, Brent (Nikki) Mears, Jennifer (Joe) Daming, Shara (Joe) Marlin, Julie (Sean) Bryk, Jay Whetsel, Rob (Chrisy) Thomson and Deanna Thomson; ten great grandchildren; sisters Marie I. Moore, Wanamaker and Darlene (Bobby) Read, Franklin; brother Leo (Phyllis) Fisher, Greenwood. She was also preceded in death by sister G. Mae Dorsett and brother Carl Fisher. Services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Monday, October 29 at The Fleming Garden Christian Church, 530 S. Taft Ave. Visitation will be 2 - 7 p.m., Sunday, October 28 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center and two hours prior to the service at the Church Monday. Burial will be at Floral Park cemetery.

John E. Molloy

73, Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007. He was born June 20, 1934 in Indianapolis to the late John and Grace Wagner Molloy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later was employed by CICOA for several years. Survivors include his brother Michael (Bonnie) Molloy, Avon; and sisters Gertrude (Thad) Andrews and Marie Grace Molloy, S.P., Beech Grove. He was also preceded in death by his brother Patrick Molloy and sister Kathleen Crayton. A memorial service will be conducted 10:30 AM, Friday, October 26 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 950 Prospect Street, Indianapolis, 46203. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been suggested to the church.
