88, Indianapolis formerly of Greenwood and Brownsburg passed away October 27, 2009. She was born July 11, 1921 in Indianapolis to the late Henry G. and Mabel White Gaalema. Mary married Richard Albertson in 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1966. She then married David C. Abell on May 29, 1971 in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2009. Her hobbies were square dancing and crafts. Her survivors are brother Robert (Martha) Gaalema, Indianapolis; sons Ronald (Judy) Albertson, Indianapolis, Bruce (Kathy) Albertson, Warsaw, KY, Daniel Albertson, Indianapolis, Ralph (Evonne) Abell, Marion, KY, Roger (Rita) Abell, Greenwood and Russ (Kim) Abell, Wabash; granddaughter Curineia (Chris) Foster Hanson, Greenwood; as well as 23 other grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by daughter Brenda Albertson; son Richard Albertson; brother Charles Gaalema; sisters Ann Ham and Carol Jones. Her service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 31 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 30 at the mortuary. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorial gifts have been suggested to Special Olympics, 962 Hill Lane, Greenwood, IN 46142 or American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.

Richard A. Williams
Date: 10/27/2009

75, Indianapolis, passed away October 27, 2009. He was born June 6, 1934 in Scranton, PA to the late Trever and Frances (Matthews) Williams. He married Muriel Moore on August 27, 1960 in Ft. Worth, Texas, and she survives. Richard received a Bachelor's in Theatre and Religion from Texas Christian University in 1960 and was ordained later that same year as a Disciples of Christ Minister. He later graduated with a Bachelor's of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary. He also earned a Master's degree in communications from Butler University and a Ph.D. in Theatre History from the University of Illinois. He pursued ministry through the theatre and directed over 150 theatrical productions throughout his career. Richard was a professor at the University of Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in 1996 as chairman of the Theatre Department. He was teacher, mentor, and friend to hundreds of students. Other survivors include his daughter Kathryn (Robert) Ransburg of Zionsville; and sons Richard Williams of Chicago, IL and Douglas (Amy) Williams of Atlanta, GA. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Trever and Morgan Williams and sisters Kathryn Schumacher and Leah Pencek. Services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 31 at Southport Christian Church with visitation 4:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday, October 30 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center.

Robert L. "Bob" Whitlock
Date: 10/29/2009

83, of Indianapolis died October 28, 2009. He was born March 13, 1926 in Edinburgh to the late John and Vera Barnett Whitlock. He served in the 4th Infantry Division in WWII during the D-Day Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and to the end of the war. He worked for Penn Central 23 years and Baird Realty 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene (Knight) Whitlock; daughters, Dianne (Steve) Jones, Barbara (Darrel) Anderson, son, Rev. Ronald (Eunice) Whitlock; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; sister, Delores Hendershott and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 7602 Madison Ave, Indianapolis. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 2 at the mortuary. Service will be officiated by Rev. J.D. Bailey of Southside Church of the Nazarene where he was a member. Interment will be at the Marion National cemetery in Marion, IN. Memorial gifts have been suggested to the Building Fund of Southside Church of the Nazarene, 2447 E. Thompson Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46227.

Orville R. Henry
Date: 10/30/2009

82, Indianapolis, passed away October 29, 2009. He was President and Owner of O’Henry Insurance Agency for 45 years, retiring from the family business in July 2008. Mr. Henry graduated from Manual High School in 1945. His memberships include National Past President of Improved Order of Red Men, Southport Lodge No. 270 F. & A.M., Murat Shrine, Past President of Murat Shrine Oriental Band, Johnson County Shrine Club, Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Sahara Grotto, Elks Lodge, the Eagles Lodge and Indianapolis Motorcycle Police Drill Team. Mr. Henry is survived by his wife Patricia Aunita (Day), his eleven children, Nina (Simon) Morse, Steven (Wendy) Henry, P. E. (Steve) Engle, Jim Henry, Gary Henry, Pamela Sue (Jaime) Santellana, David (Linda) Henry, Denise (John) Carver, Vickie Johnston, Randy (Paula) Henry and Aunita (Dr. Timothy) Feeney and 24 grandchildren. These grandchildren have blessed him with 33 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren. Orville enjoyed many years at his family lake house, surrounded by his family and friends. He also enjoyed meeting the many needs of his Clients and Brokers. He will be greatly missed by all. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 2 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Glenns Valley. Memorial gifts have been suggested to Alzheimer’s Association.

J. Myron Barnard

74, Greenwood formerly of Indianapolis, passed away May 1, 2010. He was born June 8, 1935 in Indianapolis to the late Glenn and Vivian Boger Barnard. Myron married Lois J. Keiser on September 21, 1963 in Lafayette and she survives. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Ancient Landmarks Lodge No. 319 F. & A.M.; Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite; Murat Shrine; Perry Township Republican Club and was a former member of Southport Jaycees. He had been Judge thirty three years at Perry Township Small Claims Court retiring in 2002. Other survivors are daughters Melanie (David) Redmond, Nineveh and Kim (Rob) Leake, Martinsville; son Byron (Patty McCleery) Barnard, Indianapolis; grandchildren David Barnard, Megan Smith, David Redmond, Jacob Redmond, Matthew Redmond, Maggie Redmond and Hannah Leake and brother Ed (Pat) Barnard, Greenwood. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 6 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 5 at the mortuary. Entombment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorial gifts have been suggested to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Alma L. Matlock
Date: 05/06/2010

84, Indianapolis, passed away May 6, 2010. She was born April 12, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late Harvey and Elma Gasper Clarkson. She married Samuel H. Matlock on June 16, 1944 in Indianapolis. She was employed 27 years as a substitute postal carrier and many years as office manager of Matlock Well Drilling. She was a member of Fleming Garden Christian Church. She is survived by her husband Samuel Matlock; son Sam (Mae) Matlock of Indianapolis; daughter Linda (James) Waites of Indianapolis; brother Richard (Carol) Clarkson of Dupont; sisters Eunice (Maurice) Stenger of Indianapolis and Judy (Wayne) Bledsoe of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law Robert Turner of Indianapolis. She was also preceded in death by her son John Harvey Matlock; brother Harvey Clarkson; and sister Thelma Turner. Services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 11 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation 4:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday, May 10 at the mortuary. Entombment will be in Floral Park cemetery.

Evelyn Freeney
Date: 06/02/2010

87, passed away May 29, 2010, in Greenwood, IN. She was born June 6, 1922, in Anguilla, MS to the late Emma (Boyd) and J.B. Dunaway. Evelyn married William S (Bill) Freeney June 6, 1940 in Jackson, MS before he enlisted in the US Army, serving in the European Theater, the Battle of the Bulge, until VE Day, 1945. Bill preceded her in death March 12, 1970.
In early adulthood, Evelyn owned and operated Evelyn's Beauty Shop in Rolling Fork, MS. But she always had a goal of a college education and after her daughter, Ebbie, married in 1966, she, with Bill's total support, entered college as a 44-yr old Freshman and completed her 4-yr teaching degree in 3 years. Evelyn taught High School English and Creative Writing for 20 years in Rolling Fork (MS) High School, retiring in 1989.
Not long into retirement, Evelyn relocated closer to her daughters, Ebbie and Nonie, in Greenwood, IN. In the 18 years she spent in her Greenwood home, she attained the Purdue Extension Master Gardener designation and was an active member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church. For many of those years, she enjoyed sharing gardening plants and tips with family and neighbors.
Her survivors include: sons, Bill (Susan) Freeney of Natchez, MS; Carl David (Sharon) Freeney of Lonoke, AR; daughters, Ebbie (Darrell) Crawford and Nonie Freeney, both of Greenwood, IN. Also, five grandchildren: Judd (Angie) Crawford, Jessica (Mike) DiSanto, Cal (Lisa) Freeney, Kirk Freeney, Abra Claire Freeney. Finally, six great-grandchildren: Brianna, Jamie, Dallas, Emma, Abby, Kira. Evelyn is also survived by two brothers, Von and Bobby Dunaway. She is preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.
There will be a graveside service at Rolling Fork, MS, cemetery celebrating Evelyn's life by her children and extended family. A date has not yet been set.
Memorials should be directed to Greenwood Presbyterian Church, 102 W Main St., Greenwood, IN 46142.

Mable Irene Bradley

Mable Irene Bradley, 96, Indianapolis passed away October 16, 2012. She was born April 25, 1916 in Allen County, KY to the late Walter Douglas and Mazie Douglas Willis. Irene married Roy Bradley on November 25, 1933 and he preceded her in death July 21, 1990. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Amos, KY. Her survivors are sons Randal W. (Marilyn) Bradley of Indianapolis and Roland (Dorothy) Bradley of Greenfield; daughters Rosalie Hinton and Rhonda Combs both of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; sister Charlotte (Lewie Wayne) Shockley of Scottsville, KY and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by daughter Rita Bradley, two grandchildren and sister Hollis Shaw. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 19 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18 at the mortuary. Burial in Washington Park East cemetery. Memorial gifts have been suggested to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Indianapolis Affiliate, P.O. Box 6069, Dept. 95, Indianapolis, IN 46206-6069.

Jason L. Mullins

Jason L. Mullins 28, Indianapolis, passed away October 11, 2012. He was born January 6, 1984 in Indianapolis to Ernie and Deanna Kennedy Mullins who survive. He is also survived by his wife Danielle Relue Mullins; and his sons Jackson and Jason Mullins. Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 16 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation 4:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday, October 15 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Glenns Valley.

Cody A. Chappell

Born: Wed Jan 19, 1994
Died: Sun Sep 23, 2012

Cody Alexander Chappell 18, Roanoke, VA passed away September 23, 2012. Cody was born in Indianapolis on January 19, 1994 to David (Terri) Chappell, Roanoke Va. and Dawn E. Chappell, Anderson who survive. Other survivors include his siblings Logan, Colton, Gabriella, Jacob, Evan, and Ayden; grandparents Helen Barton, Fountaintown, Kevin and Kathy Poynter, Greenwood and Danny Barnd, Indianapolis. He will be missed by his adoring family. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 3 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Acton cemetery.

Ola "Bea" Hughes

Died: Sat Sep 29, 2012

Ola “Bea” Hughes, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully September 29, 2012 surrounded by her daughters. Originally from Scottsville, Kentucky, she was born December 13, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Hughes, daughter, Phyllis Mahan of Conway, South Carolina, brother, James Ballard of Indianapolis, and sister, Evelyne Williams of Scottsville, Kentucky. She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Adkins of Indianapolis, Melinda (Dan) Moriarty of Indianapolis, son-in-law, Joe Mahan of Conway, South Carolina and grandchildren Brian Mahan, Lori Mahan, Cindy Adkins, Ryan Moriarty and Megan Moriarty.
She retired from American United Life Insurance in 1989.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 2 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral will be on Wednesday, October 3 at 10:30 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. Interment will be held at Greenwood cemetery.
