Adrian L. Oxby
July 08, 1918 - December 12, 2003
Adrian L. Oxby, 85, of Brazil died December 12, 2003 at his home, following a short illness. Born July 8, 1918 in Pike County, he was the son of John and Audie Chapman Oxby. A graduate of Spurgeon High School in 1937, he joined the Army Air Corp in 1944.
On April 6, 1940 he married Freda Fiscus Oxby ion the home of Brother Peck in Sullivan County. Standing up with them was the bride’s parents, Fred and Alma Fiscus.
He worked at Whirlpool in Evansville, IN, until it closed down. He then worked at the Evansville Courier and Press as a route manager.
In 1959 he began working for Farm Bureau Insurance as a claims adjustor, which was when he moved to Clay County. He last worked for CBS in Terre Haute as a supervisor in the injection mold plant, retiring in 1986. Following retirement, he remained active with delivering Meals on Wheels for the elderly. He truly enjoyed all the people he came in contact with during this time.
He was a member of the Meridian St. Church of Christ in Brazil. He also was a member of the Lynnville, IN. F & A.M. Lodge #396.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda Oxby; one son Johnny Oxby and his wife Connie of Clay City; one daughter Karen Tiefel and her husband Jerry of rural Brazil; five grandchildren, Becky Oxby of Terre Haute, Brenda Hayden of Center Point, John Brian Oxby of Princeton, Mike Tiefel and Melissa Burgess both of Terre Haute; Seven great-grandchildren, Harley and Haylee Miller of Brazil, Leslie Burgess of Terre Haute, Adrian Tiefel of Terre Haute, Breanna VanSickle, Jerick Hayden of Center Point, John Oxby Jr. of Princeton. He enjoyed and dearly loved his family.
His parents preceded him in death.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00am at French Funeral Home with Brother Les Dowden officiating. Burial will follow at Spurgeon cemetery in Pike County. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8pm and again Tuesday prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Vista Care Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

John E. Bussing
November 27, 1931 - November 29, 2003
John E. Bussing, 72 of Brazil died November 29, 2003 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born November 27, 1931 in Clay County, the son of Charles bussing and Ola McClannahan Bussing. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1949.
Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. During his service career he served in Europe and the Far East being awarded the Air Force Meritorious Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal plus numerous other medals and awards. He also completed he BS Degree during this period. Following his retirement for the Air Force, he served in several social service activities until he was forced to retire for disability in 1994. He then became an avid collector.
He married Sipriana Rodriquez on March 1, 1957 in Ellsworth, Kansas.
He was a life-long member of the Annunciation BVM Church; and a life member of the VFW #1127.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John E. Bussing, Jr.; two brothers, Charles Bussing and James Bussing; two Brothers in law, Marc Rodriguez and Rudy Rodriguez and one sister in law Mary Lou Botello.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters and sons in laws, Kirsten and Kip Kumpf, Melanie and Kurt Taylor, all of Brazil and Cecilia and Chuck Miles of Folsom, CA., one son Eric Bussing of Covington, KY.; eight grandchildren, Shawna Duncan and her companion Dale Berry, Carlina Miles, Spencer Miles, Tavia Taylor, Sydney Taylor, Kyle Kumpf, Olivia Kumpf, and Zachary Kumpf; one great-grandson Jordan Berry; three brothers, Stephen Bussing, Robert Bussing, and Michael Bussing; three sisters, Mary Jo Cox, Peggy Arnold and Paulette Johnson and her husband Richard; sisters in law, Carol Bussing, and Kay Bussing, Lupe Lutz and husband Robert, Frances Jacobo and husband James, brothers in laws, Petra Rodriguez and wife Georgia, Angel Rodriguez, Jose and Mary Rodriguez, John and Genie Rodriguez, Leon and Juanita Rodriguez, and Daniel And Connie Rodriguez; many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11:00 am at Annunciation Church with Father Rob Hausladen officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn cemetery. The Air Force Military Honor Guard will be providing graveside rites. Visitation will be Wednesday at French Funeral Home from 4-8pm with Rosary at 7:00pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Annunciation School or to the Cornerstone Christian Academy, or to the charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Charles Henry Lillyblade
October 14, 1926 - December 01, 2003
Charles Henry Lillyblade
Charles Henry Lillyblade, 77 of Brazil died December 1, 2003 at Union Hospital.
He was born October 14, 1926 in Brazil, the son of Russell and Maggie Warren Lillyblade. He graduated from Staunton High School.
He joined the Navy and served during WW II. October 19, 1946 he married Mary Peshut Lillyblade.
He returned home and began working for Hulman and Company. He later worked at Tumpane Co.. He retired from working for J.I. Case as a production manager.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Brazil Concert Band.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, one son Robert Lillyblade of Brazil; one daughter, Barbara DeFelice of Frankfort, IL.; three grandchildren, Julie Will and husband David, Megan DeFelice, and Allison DeFelice; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Will and Jessica Will; one brother Russell Lillyblade and wife Carol of Fortville, IN.; two nieces and one nephew.
Services will be Friday at 10:00 am at French Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Sampson officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8pm and again Friday prior to services.

Ralph Eugene Drake
June 13, 1935 - December 16, 2003
Ralph E. Drake, 68 of Brazil, passed away December 16, 2003. He was born June 13, 1935 in Vigo County, the son of William and Jeannetta Spurr Drake.
He graduated from VanBuren High School, Class of 1953. He retired from Allisons in Indianapolis. Following retirement, he worked for Hunter Oil as a semi-driver. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Maesch Drake; two daughters and one son, Lori Furrer and her husband Jim, Vicki King and husband Earl, and Russell Drake all of Brazil; 9 grandchildren, Sunny Shaw, Joshua King and wife Sharlene, Brandy Brown and husband Eric, Tiffany King, Whitney King, Kevin Drew Drake, Samantha Drake, Cary Drake, Gage Drake; 3 great-grandchildren Donavon and Tyler Brown, and James King; four sisters and brothers in law, Ethel and Frank Garrison, Barbara and Sheldon Oberholtzer, Patricia and John Herbert, and Donna and Mike Baysinger; father in law, Paul Maesch of Staunton; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Geraldine Glaziner and Deanna Stievenart; two brothers, Burl Drake and Fred Drake.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Brother Doug Parkey officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-1 prior to services.

Braeden Shea Modglin

Braeden Shea Modglin, 11 weeks old, of Terre Haute, died suddenly December 4, 2003 at his home.
He was born September 16, 2003 in Terre Haute, the son of Dustin Modglin and Holly Arnold Modglin.
He is survived by his parents; his grandparents, Robert and Janet Modglin of Brazil, Eddie Arnold and his partner Candace Davis of Mitchell, Starina and Mark Chambers of Bloomington; Great-grandparents, Jerry and Pat Arnold of Logootee, Larry and Marilyn Sanders of Mitchell and Doris and Noel Patterson of Bloomington; great-great-grandmothers, Ruth Arnold and Dorothy Cooper both of Mitchell; several aunts, uncles and a large extended family.
Services will be held Monday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn cemetery in Terre Haute. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8pm and again Monday prior to services.

Mark and Luke Jordan
January 02, 2004 - January 02, 2004
Mark and Luke Jordan
Mark Jordan and Luke Jordan, infant twins were born and died January 2, 2004 at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, IL.
They were the sons of Greg and Lisa Morgan Jordan of Brazil. They died from complications from Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome.
They are also survived by one brother Will Jordan and sister Annie Jordan; grandparents, Vannis and Nora Morgan of Broken Arrow, OK., and Irby and Martha Jordan of Cottonwood, AL.; two uncles Steve Morgan and wife Eddie, and Rocky Morgan and wife Kris; one aunt Dee Anna Jordan.
They were preceded in death by a sister Leola Jordan, June 16, 1998.
The family are active members of the Harrison and Blaine Church of Christ.
Services will be held Friday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home with Brother Walter Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions by directed to RTS Bereavement Services at Union Hospital, 1606 N. 7th St. Terre Haute, IN. 47807 or to TTTS, C/O Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Clara L. Walker
July 06, 1920 - January 05, 2004
Clara L. Walker, 83 of Brazil died January 5, 2004 at 7:15pm at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
She was born July 6, 1920, in Carbon, the daughter of John W. Wilson and Muriel Murphy Wilson. She graduated from Van Buren High School. She married Walter Walker in June of 1941, he preceded her in death.
She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, word games and was a devoted Elvis and Chuck Norris Fan.
She is survived by her 4 daughters, Phyllis Shaffer and husband Robert of Brazil, Sharon Michon and husband Jim of Terre Haute, Evelyn Nelson of Brazil and Janet Walker of Terre Haute; 3 sons, Sonny Walker of Terre Haute, Jerry Walker and his wife Carol of Brazil, and Howard Walker of Brazil; one son in law, Jim LaBaume; 6 grandchildren, Michael Nelson, Robert Nelson and wife Amber, Doug Shaffer, Laura Shaffer, Christina Walker, and Amanda Hall; 6 great-grandchildren, Jordan Nelson, Danielle Nelson, Mackenzie Nelson, Cody Hall, Lela Nelson, and Kaitlyn Nelson; one brother Robert Wilson and wife Mary of Indianapolis; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Mary LaBaume and Sandy Walker; three sisters, Ruth Sawyer, Mary Cramer, and Eva Phipps; one brother John Wilson.
Services will be held Saturday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 and again Saturday prior to services.

Mariah Elaine Goodwin
December 20, 2003 - December 20, 2003
Mariah Elaine Goodwin, infant was born December 20, 2003 at 3:42pm and passed away December 20, 2003 at 5:02pm. She was the daughter of Jennifer Stultz Goodwin and Charles Goodwin.
She is survived by her parents, her grandparents, Teresa Stultz of Brazil, Randi and James Goodwin of St. George, Utah; great-grandparents, Don Neese, James and Nathlee “Connie” Goodwin; great-great-grandmother, Marva Goodwin of St. George, Utah; four uncles, Jerod Stultz, Jacob Goodwin and wife Rebecca, Burke Goodwin, Joshua Goodwin, and one aunt Amanda Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Roger Stultz; one uncle, Travis Goodwin, and one great-grandmother, Mary Neese.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00pm at Riverside cemetery in Spencer with Rev. Laryl Palmer officiating. French Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

Howard Russell Escott
January 21, 1928 - January 10, 2004
Howard “Russell” Escott, 75 of Brazil passed away January 10, 2004 at 1:53am at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
He was born January 21, 1928 in Perth, Clay County, the son of William and Mary Lydia Clark Escott. He worked as a young man at Brazil Brick and Tile, and then Arketex. He last worked at CBS and retired from the maintenance department at Indiana State University.
He enjoyed gardening, family time, and was an excellent cook. He enjoyed making special hamburgers and baking bread for his family and friends. He was known as “Grandpa” to all children, and welcomed all into his home.
He was a loving husband to his wife Delores Smith Escott of 50 years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM; # 264; the Eastern Star #80; and the York Rite.
He is survived by his wife Delores; their two daughters, Kathy Sullivan and husband Bill, and Kim Taylor; four grandchildren, David Phelps, Lonna Bordes, Jessica Phelps, and Steven Taylor; one great-grandson, Conner Phelps, all of Brazil; one sister Vivian Burkett of Greencastle, one sister in law, Ruth Escott; one brother in law, Grant Allee; many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter Aujunae Shirley; one brother William Tracy Escott; one sister Frances Allee; one nephew Jerry Allee.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home with Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8pm and again Tuesday prior to services. Masonic services will be held Monday at 7:00pm with Eastern Star services to follow.

Sharon Lee White
September 29, 1959 - January 27, 2004
Sharon Lee “Sherby” White, 44 of Brazil died January 27, 2004 at Clay Health Center.
She was born September 29, 1959 in Brazil, the daughter of Charles Darrow White and Nancy Faris White. She graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1978. She attended services at Jehovah Witness Hall until entering the Clay Health Center in 1998. She enjoyed music, was an Elvis Fan, and was well known for her cheerful attitude.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendi Starr Skelton; her mother Nancy L. White; three sisters and brothers in law, Nora and Lynn Walton, Kristina and Anthony Spalding, and Kelly and Billy Maesch; three brothers and sisters in law, Ronald Dukes, Bryant and Judy White, and Anthony Aaron White; one uncle Nick White; 11 nieces and nephews, Matt Dukes, James Wethington, Larry Solinger, Jesse Spalding, Diadra Spalding, Natosha White, Zachary White, Justin White, Bricen White, Shailiegh Whistler, Kaiden Maesch; two great-nephews, Tyeson Bushong, and Dontae Thornton; 8 cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Darrow White; aunt Ann Lee Faris; grandparents, Bert L. Faris, Mary E. Faris, and Thelma White.
Services will be held Saturday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home with Pastor Julie Lake officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8pm and again Saturday prior to services.
