November 29, 1926 - November 9, 2002
Oscar T. Black, 75, of Brazil died November 9, 2002 at 9:17 am in the emergency room of St. Vincent Clay Hospital. He was born November 29, 1926 in Coalmont, IN the son of Oscar T. and Naomi Ruth Crosby Black. He graduated from Coalmont High School. He served in the US Army during WW II. Upon his discharge from the Army, he began working as a tree-trimmer. He retired from working from Townsend Tree Service due to health problems.
He was a member of the Deliverence Temple Church in Brazil. He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed playing board games and working puzzles with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Michael David Stinson.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Padgett Black, whom he married August 6, 1966. Six children and their spouses; Nancy Weinrich of Lafayette, Clifford and Cindy Anderson of Brazil, Bob and Viola Ellis of Brazil, Chris Traver and Richard Stapert of Patricksburg, Michael Black and Bill Davis of Clinton and Brian and Sheila Black of Brazil; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Stinson, Robert Weinrich, David Anderson, Jeremy Anderson, Phillip Ellis, Nick Ellis, Thomas Traver and wife Brandy, Jamie Traver, Michael Traver, Jesse Stapert, Christopher Stapert, Jack Barnett, Timothy Barnett and Heather Barnett; 8 great-grandchildren, Seth Brown, Hannah Traver, Haley Traver, Tabitha Traver, Makayla Traver, Makalya Sue Barnett, Kassidy Barnett and Mersaides Barnett; 2 sisters, Katherine Rose Griffith and Judy Kay Black both of Jasonville.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 1:00 pm at French Funeral Home with Brother Woodrow Leohr officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 until the time of service. Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post #2 and VFW #1127.

Ms. Delores Josephine Batchelor
January 25, 1936 - September 29, 2002
Delores J. Batchelor, 66, of Brazil died Sunday, September 29, 2002 at 7:16 am in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born January 25, 1936 in Lebanon, Indiana the daughter of Ernest Eugene and Kathryn Fern Cox Dodson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Raymond Dodson.
Survivors include; nine children, Kathleen Roberts, Donald Raines, Eddis Raines, Vickey Raines, John Smith, Della Kidd, George B. Batchelor, Eddis Eugene Lyle, Jerry Lyle; eight brothers and nine sisters, Jerry Dodson, David Dodson, Ernest Dodson Jr., Kenneth Dodson, Michael Dodson, James Dodson, Frank Dodson, Donald Dodson, Martha Smith, Linda Smith, Sandra Gayhart, Mary Ann Hughes, Judy Stedman, James Gwinn, Gary Davis, Rebecca Campbell, Robin Kidd; 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 1:00 pm at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Burial will follow in Center cemetery east of Lebanon. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2, 2002 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon.
Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.

William R. Downing
April 19, 1950 - August 31, 2002
William R. Downing, 52, of Brazil died August 31, 2002 at his home. He was born April 19, 1950 in Brazil, the son of Robert and Louise Downing. He graduated from Brazil High School Class of 1968. On July 9, 1971 he married JoAnn Riddell, she survives. He was a truck driver and mechanic until 1983 when he had to retire due to health problems. He was an avid Nascar and Harley Davidson enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn; three children, Brad Downing and wife Karen, Shane Downing and wife Cherish, and Kim Sutherlin and husband Brad; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kayla, Monica, Logan, Drake and Ethan; two brothers and two sisters, Bob Downing of Lafayette, Mike Downing, Marilyn Nees and Ginny Miller all of Brazil; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At his request cremation will take place, with burial of ashes on Friday, September 6th at 11:00 am at Bee Ridge cemetery. Pastor Bob Sampson will preside. Visitation will be Thursday, September 5th from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the ALS Foundation, or to the memorial of their choice.

Colleen A. Parr
Colleen A. Parr, age 69, of Centerville, Ohio passed away at 4:50 AM Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Heartland of Centerville.
She was born June 6, 1939 in Seymour, Indiana to the late Robert and Marcella (Butler) Klosterman.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jerry L. Parr of Centerville. They lived in Escanaba, Michigan for over 25 years before moving to the Dayton, Ohio area in 1985.
Survivors also include two sons; Jerald Parr of Centerville and Joe Parr of Escanaba; a daughter; Cathy (Mrs. Rodney) Larson of Big Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren, one step grandchild and one step great grandchild; a sister; Patricia Nichols of Seymour, IN, and a brother; Robert Klosterman of Cocoa, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Private family services will be held at Voss Chapel on Saturday, October 25.
Burial will be at Riverview cemetery, Seymour.
Memorials may be written to the American Lung Association.

David Joseph Crowell
October 15, 1946 - October 2, 2002
David Joseph Crowell, 55, of Brazil died at 8:00 am October 2, 2002 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born October 15, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York the son of James W. Crowell Jr. and Honore Canavan Crowell. He graduated from Fort Hamilton High School Class of 1964.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. On September 19, 1970 he married Judy Caccamo.
He moved to Brazil in 1985 and was the owner of Dave's T.V. and Fratello's Italian Hero Shop. He was currently employed at the Putnamville Correctional Facility as a cook. He was a member of Annunciation Church, American Legion and VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Judy; two daughters, Rita VanArsdale and husband Mike of Carbon and Amanda Crowell of Brazil; grandson, Logan David VanArsdale; two brothers, James W. Crowell III of New Jersey, Richard F. Crowell of Brazil; and a sister, Madeline Menzies of New Jersey.
Services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2002 at 11:00 am at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Ken Ciano officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, Terre Haute. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 4, 2002 at French Funeral Home.

Paul A Dickison
February 6, 1974 - February 6, 1974
Paul A. Dickison, 28, of Brazil died Sunday, August 18, 2002, from injuries sustained in an accident in his home. He was employed with R&E; Software design in Terre Haute as a computer technician. He was born February 6, 1974 in Brazil to Paul and Susan Bobbitt Dickison. Survivors include his wife, Amy Bell Dickison whom he married February 26, 1993; their children Ashlen and Paul Dickison; his parents; his brother Matt Dickison of New Albany; one sister Sarah Dickison of Brazil; grandmother Maudie Dickison; mother and father-in-law Sandy and Warren Bell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mark and Rae Ann Howald, Jay Bell, Pat and Jayme Longo, Dan and Lisa Brand and a large extended family. He was a 1992 graduate of Northview High School and a 1998 graduate of Indiana State University with a degree in criminology. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 21, 2002 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home
Services will be Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home
Burial will be in Summit Lawn cemetery, Brazil.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Paul A. Dickison Memorial Fund for the benefit of his children. 1129 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47807

Maxine Doan Butler
March 10, 1918 - October 25, 2002
Maxine Doan Butler, 84, of Diamond died October 25, 2002 at 7:20 pm at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born March 10, 1918 in Blanford the daughter of Herbert and Essie Milligan Doan. She owned and operated the Diamond grocery story for 25 years. She was a member of the Pocohontas Lodge, Geronamo Council #51, Ladies Auxillary VFW #1127 and the Annunciation Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years William C. Butler; a brother, Herbert Doan; sisters, Wilma Thomas and Mary Doan; and her stop-mother Helena Doan.
Survivors include her son Gary Butler and wife Evanette of Brazil; granddaughter Lisa Wileman; great-grandchidren Leighla Wileman and Timothy Allen Wileman; sisters, Nancy Bumpus and husband James of Terre Haute, Jo Anne McDuffee of Aurora, IL; and brothers, William Doan of Terre Haute and Herbert Doan and wife Joann of Terre Haute.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at 9:00 am at Annunciation Catholic Church in Brazil. Burial will follow at Clear Run cemetery in Bridgeton. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 29, 2002 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at French Funeral Home, 421 E National Ave, Brazil.

Margaret Acree
July 18, 1907 - May 09, 2003
Margaret Acree, 95, of Brazil died May 9, 2003 at 3:08 AM at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility in Knightsville.
She was born July 18, 1907 in Poland the daughter of August F. Keiser and Mearl E. Hauck Keiser. She was a graduate of Brazil High School Class of 1926 and Brazil Business College. In 1930 she was united in marriage to Albert J. Acree who preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Brazil where in 1928 she served as its first secretary. She was also a charter member of the church's caring ministry program.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Everett Keiser; and her husband Albert J. Acree.
Survivors include one son, Gary Acree and wife Susan of Terre Haute; two granddaughters, Lindsay Acree of Evergreen, Colorado and Lacey Acree of Terre Haute; two step-grandchildren, Angela Snider and Mark Ward of Terre Haute and a step-great-grandchild; two nephews, Gene Paitson of Terre Haute and Steve Keiser of Maryville, Tennessee; and three nieces, Roberta Harrison of Terre Haute, Betsy Short of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Betty Cotterman of Sarasota, Florida.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at 10:00 AM at French Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home and Tuesday prior to services.

Robert H. "Bob" Dix Sr.
February 23, 1926 - November 9, 2002
Bob Dix, 76, of Brazil passed away peaceably on November 9, 2002 at Union Hospital. He was born February 23, 1926 in Terre Haute, the son of Floyd E. and Mary Gillum Dix. He attended Augusta Military Academy and Virginia Military Academy before entering the US Army Air Force during WW II. Upon his discharge he attended DePauw University where he met and married his wife Lois "Dusty" Watson. Upon his graduation with a degree in economics he went to work for General Electric. While working for GE in Chicago, he furthered his education with a law degree from the University of Chicago.
In 1951 he purchased McCurdy's Paint and Wallpaper Company in Brazil, which he operated until his passing. During his years in Brazil he was very active in many civic, fraternal, political and charitable organizations. He was a member of VFW Post #1127, American Legion Post #2, Brazil Chamber of Commerce, Fraternal Order of Elks, NRA and numerous other organizations. He will be long remembered for his contributions to the local newspapers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Dusty.
He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Dix of Brazil; son Robert Dix, Jr of Brazil; daughter Margie Bryant and husband Bob of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Grant Bryant, Clinton Bryant and Dustin Bryant of Terre Haute; a brother George "Pete" Six and wife Mary Ann of New Mexico; nephews and several cousins; and longtime business associate and friend Wilma Burns.
Services will be Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at 11:00 am at French Funeral Home with Brother Greg Comp and Lynn Hostetler officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 11, 2002 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a charity of choice.

Nina Ilene Bolinger
November 30, 1933 - June 27, 2003
Nina Bolinger, 69, of Terre Haute died June 27, 2003 at 5:30 am at her residence.
She was born November 30, 1933 in West Terre Haute the daughter of Virgil and Millie Newell Green.
On November 13, 1950 she married David Bolinger. She worked for 13 years at Miller & Parrot. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill Green and George Green; three sisters, Ada Laycock, Lily Elrod, and Norma Fields.
She is survived by her husband David Bolinger of Terre Haute; one daughter, Diana Reed of Vero Beach, FL; two sons, David Ray Bolinger and wife Becky of Terre Haute and Randy Allen Bolinger of Indianapois; two half brothers, Larry "Buck" Green and Glenn Green; four grandchildren, Shawn Kane and Kevan Reed both of Florida and David Earl Bolinger and Amy Bolinger of Terre Haute; three great-grandchildren, David Tyler Bolinger and Jared Bolinger of Terre Haute and Zachary Kane of Orlando, FL; sister-in-laws, Elsie Smith of Terre Haute and Mary Zouraeff of California; and several nieces and nephews.
At her request cremation is scheduled. There will be no visitation or services.

Barry Lee Arnett
March 16, 1955 - December 21, 2002
Barry Lee Arnett, 47, of Carbon, died Saturday, December 21, 2002 at 10:32 am in the emergency room of St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1955 in Kentucky the son of Evert and Dora Brewer Arnett.
He served in the US Army, had worked for the glass plant in Terre Haute, had done construction and most recently worked as a driver for the Child Adult Resources Service (CARS). He enjoyed doing woodworking, boating and Harley Davidsons.
He attended the Carbon Nazarene Church.
On February 13, 1993 he married Karen Flater, she survives.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother; Mary Arnett, Lena Arnett and James Wiley Arnett.
He is survived by his parents of Center Point, his wife of Carbon; three children, Brandy Arnett of Brazil, Jeremiah Flater and wife Natalie of Carbon and Richie Wilkins of Carbon; three sisters, Wanda Winn and husband Earl of Florida, Debbie Head and husband Mike of Brazil and Norma "Susie" Stultz and husband Dennis of Brazil; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Deloris Flater of Linton; sisters-in-laws, Kim and Gary Orman of Carbon, Karisa and Terry Bedwell of Linton; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday, December 26, 2002 at 1:00 pm at the Carbon Nazarene Church located at 44 W. Third Street, Carbon, IN 47837 with Rev. Bill Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720 or the Kidney Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the church or funeral home.

Charlotte M. Bruer
November 28, 1951 - April 08, 2003
Charlotte M. Bruer, 51, of Brazil, died April 8, 2003 at 10:53 pm at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born November 28, 1951 in Brazil the daughter of Robert L. Wetnight and Rose Eldridge Wetnight.
On February 10, 1969 she married Jerry Wayne Bruer, he survives. She worked at CBS many years ago, but due to health problems she had to quit working. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Bruer of Brazil; three sons and a daughter, Jerry W. Bruer II and wife Tammy, Anthony Bruer, Jackie Bruer and wife Summer, and Anette Pierce and husband Ron all of Brazil; 14 grandchildren, Tina Sanders, Justin Sanders, Terry Craig, A.J. Bruer, Gage Bruer, Taylor Bruer, Tyler Bruer, Aubra Bruer, Lacey Bruer, Ariel Pierce, Ryan Gregg, Dakota Pierce, Sierra Bruer, and Nevada Bruer; two sisters, Paulette Jaffe of Terre Haute and Roberta Hutchison of Harmony; one brother Jack Wetnight and wife Betty of Reelsville; many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 11:00 am at French Funeral Home with Rick Wetnight officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family.
