October 18, 1942 - December 6, 2002
Vickee R. Cramer, 60, of Brazil, died Friday December 6, 2002 at 5:58 pm at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born October 18, 1942 in Ohio, the daughter of Chester and Bernice Ida Jennings Wiley. She worked at CBS in the tape plant, and also at many different restaurants in the area as a cook. She worked at Adami's, the Blue Bonnett and I-70 Truck Plaza. She specialized in pies and pastries.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.
She is survived by her mother, Bernice Wiley of Warren, IN, her daughter Debbie Maybaugh of Brazil, grandchildren Tyler and Tiffani Maybaugh of Brazil; five step children, Gene Cramer Jr. of Amboy, IN, Ronnie Cramer of California, Janice Kay of Martinsville, Barry Cramer of Indianapolis, Wayne Cramer of Martinsville, two sisters and several stepgranchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2002 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. At her request cremation will take place following visitation.
The family requests no specific donations at this time.

Melanie N. Bemis
March 7, 1988 - January 8, 2003
Melanie N. Bemis, 14, of Brazil, died January 8, 2003 in an automobile accident. She was born March 7, 1988 the daughter of Brian and Tammy Morgan Bemis.
She was a freshman at Northview High School. She was a member of SADD. She enjoyed swimming, dancing and babysitting. She loved to spend time with family and friends.
She is survived by her parents, her brothers, Christopher Fox and Seth Bemis; her cousin Jeremiah "J.J." Bemis; grandparents, Otie and Linda Bemis of Carbon, Eunice and Alfred Morgan of Brazil, Betty and Ron Thompson of Brazil; great-grandmother Lottie Morgan of Arkansas; Aunts and Uncles, Nikki and Mitch Quick, Tina and Ted Holman, Michael and Dawn Bemis, Larry Bemis, Lori and Nathan Lewis, Rhonda and Don Skelton, Pam Morgan, Christina Morgan and Teresa and Bruce Hines; special friends, Brittaney Pruitt, Rachel Burk, Jessica Holman, and Brandi Dixon and a large extended family.
Funeral Services will be Monday, January 13, 2003 at 1:00 pm at First Christian Church, 1875 W US Hwy 40, Brazil with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial will be in Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at French Funeral Home, 421 E National Ave, Brazil.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Northview High School SADD Organization. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.

Kenneth L. Bolin
August 29, 1926 - May 17, 2003
Kenneth L. Bolin, 76, of Brazil, died May 17, 2003 at 9:33 am at St. Vincent Clay Hospital emergency room.
He was born August 29, 1926 in Terre Haute the son of John Bolin and Mable Byrnes Bolin.
On October 11, 1977 he married Bonnie Noel Henshilwood, she survives.
He had been an employee for Toast Master Bread/Brick Oven Bakery for 25 years retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Poland Zion United Church of Christ. He enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball, NASCAR, bowling, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond Bolin, Everett Bolin, Robert Bolin, Johnnie Bolin, and Ivan Bolin.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Bolin of Brazil; one sister Vinas Conover and husband Woody of Las Vegas; one aunt, Flora Bush; one sister-in-law Opal Bolin and dear friends Joann Stetler and Tammy Braden.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 10:00 am at Clearview cemetery with Rev. Rodgers officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 20, 2003 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Zion United Church of Christ in Poland. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary K. Coble
December 21, 1912 - May 05, 2003
Mary K. Coble, 90, of Brazil, died May 5, 2003 at 3:15 AM at her residence.
She was born December 21, 1912 in Clay County the daughter of William Taggart and Elizabeth hoffman Taggart.
She graduated from Cory High School. On May 6, 1941 she married Lester Coble, he preceded her in death in 1994. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Methodist Church and the Van Cleve Home Ec Club for over 50 years. She enjoyed quilting and working on the family farm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Carl Taggart, Fred Taggart, George Taggart, Claude Taggart; four sisters, Ann Latham, Alpha Hopkins, Elizabeth Delaney and Merle Morley.
She is survived by her sister Bernice Steuerwald; two sister-in-laws, Maxine Taggart of Columbus, IN and Faye Taggart of Prairieton, IN; eight nephews and three nieces, Richard Morley, Jim Morley, Don Latham, Joe Latham, Bill Taggart, Bob Steuerwald, J.P. Coble, Gene Hopkins, Kay Seymour, Phyllis Neiswender and Karen Sauer; several great and great-great nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Services will be Friday, May 9, 2003 at 11:00 AM at French Funeral Home with Revs. Marcia Carpenter and Max Brunton officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 8, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday prior to services.

Frances Dixon
August 12, 1911 - April 08, 2003
Frances Dixon, 91, of Brazil, died April 8, 2003 at Union Hospital at 3:55 am. She was born August 12, 1911 in Clay County the daughter of Porter and Martha Fennel Stinson.
She worked as a manager of a restaurant. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and collected tea pots.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene Dixon in 1963; brothers, Warren Stinson, Kenneth Stinson, and Forrest Stinson; sisters, Ina Leffler, Lois Stinson, and Marjorie Elliott.
She is survived by her daughters Janice Dixon of Brazil, Diane Hari and husband Earl of Frankfort, IL., son Gary Dixon and wife Linda of Brazil; three step-sons, William Dixon, Earl Wayne Dixon, and Robert Dixon; six grandchildren, Timothy Hari, Tristan Hari, Troy Hari and wife Barbara, Taryn Hari, Jeffrey Dixon, and Lisa Pollard; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Sutherlin, Alexandria Pollard, and Bailey Pollard; one sister, Dorothy Keiser of Poland and one brother, Robert Stinson of Bloomfield.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2003 at 1:00 pm at French Funeral Home with Brother Greg Comp officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Nancy Cooper
May 06, 1941 - November 02, 2003
Nancy Cooper, 62 of Brazil died November 2, 2003 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She had surgery there Thursday and died unexpectedly Sunday morning.
She was born May 6, 1941 in Parke County the daughter of Herbert J. Walton and Maudie Phelps Walton. She attended Bridgeton High School.
She married Leslie Curtis Cooper, March 24, 1956, he preceded her in death.
She worked at P.R. Mallorys, CBS, Bemis, and later at Forest Park Elementary School with the disabled children. She also worked at Cloverleaf Nursing Home.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeri McCullough-Gooding and her husband Bruce of Avon; one son Doug Cooper of Brazil; grandchildren, Hayley Cooper, Patrick Crowell, Heather McCullough and Jared McCullough and his wife Heather.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son in infancy, Leslie Curtis, Jr. died in 1956, and a son Jeff Cooper in 2001.
At her request, cremation will take place and services will be private.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the memorial of their choice.

Theresa R. Butt
December 20, 1913 - September 17, 2003
Theresa R. Butt, 89 of Cory, died September 17, 2003 at the Clay Health Center.
She was born December 20, 1913 in Cory, the daughter of Daniel Nicoson and Florence Bernhardt Nicoson. She graduated from Cory High School, and Indiana Teachers College. She taught elementary school at Middleberry, Staunton and Cory. She retired from teaching in the 1960’s. She was married to Charles Hubert “Judge” Butt. They farmed in the Cory area, and enjoyed traveling to Florida following to retirement.
She was a member of the Indiana Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Cory Methodist Church, and was active in the Womens Ministry group at church. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, fishing and caring for her family.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Kenneth and Janet Butt; grandchildren, Jada Anderson and Kenton Butts and his wife Kim; four great-grandchildren, Camden Shidler, Lincoln Pace, Kenzi Butts and Dallas Butts all of Cory; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles Butt and 9 brothers and sisters.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Harden officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill cemetery in Riley. Visitation will be Saturday from 11-1 pm.

Clarice I. Bennett
September 20, 1912 - December 21, 2003
Clarice I. Bennett, 91 of Brazil died December 21, 2003 at 3:08am at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
She was born September 20, 1912 in Mansfield in Parke County. She was the daughter of Fred Pruett and Nellie Wells Pruett. She married Roy Bennett December 22, 1929 in Paris, IL, he preceded her in death.
She retired from General Telephone after working there 18 years. She also previously worked at Nance’s Creamory and the Clay County School Corporation, at Meridian Street School.
She is survived by her son, Robert Bennett and wife Nancy; one daughter Patricia “Pat” Evans and her husband Richard; four grandchildren, Joe Bennett, Jake Bennett, Dan Evans, and Scott Evans; 5 great-grandchildren, Julie Evans, Michael Evans, Christopher Evans, David Evans, and Bradley Evans; 3 great-great grandchildren, Leighleigh Evans, Angelina Evans, Ashlyn Evans; one half brother Fred Pruett; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Virgil Pruett, one sister Helen Bryan, one half sister, Rosella Snodgrass, one half brother, Arthur Pruett.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm and again Wednesday prior to services.

Isabel Cox
September 21, 1921 - November 21, 1921
Isabel Cox, 82 of Brazil died November 21, 2003 at Holly Hills Healthcare Facility. She had just recently been a resident there. She was born September 21, 1921 in Clay County the daughter of John D. Lawson and Eva Webster Lawson.
She graduated from Brazil High School. She married Raymond Cox, Jr., they have celebrated 62 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother..
She enjoyed playing Bunco and was an avid Pacers and Chicago Bulls fan.
She is survived by her husband Raymond Cox, Jr.; their son and daughter in law, Michael and Janice Cox all of Brazil; two granddaughters, Angela Metz and Alison Walton and her husband Michael; 5 great-grandchildren, Whitley DeSmith, Brianna Walton, Ethan Walton, Bryce Toppas, Gage Bruer; one sister Violet Ann Blackford and her husband Charles; 1 niece Tammy Rogers and her husband Tim and their daughter Kayla Rogers; two nephews, Tom Taylor and Jerry Taylor; brother in law, Albert Taylor and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Peggy Taylor and a sister in infancy, Virginia Lawson.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Brother Doug Parkey officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-1, prior to services.

Newton Cunningham
July 25, 1950 - August 15, 2003
Newton Cunningham, 53, of Brazil, died at 12:57 PM Friday, August 15, 2003 at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
He was born July 25, 1950 in Terre Haute the son of Newton and Ruth Vermillion Cunningham who preceded him in death.
Upon graduation from Gerstmeyer High School, he joined the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After being discharged, he served in the Army National Guard for 9 years.
On August 23, 1974 he married Lou Ann Gerber. A member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Seelyville, he was a self-employed construction worker and for 5 years drove City Cab in Brazil. Becoming disabled in 1978 he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one sister, Shirley Borges; one uncle, Ted Gerber; father-in-law, Harold Gerber.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lou Ann Cunningham; two daughters, Jennifer Norris of Brazil and Barbara Riley of Terre Haute; one son, Gregory L. Cunningham; one granddaughter, Kristan N. Norris; one grandson Alex Newton Riley; mother-in-law Barbara Linton of Brazil; one son-in-law Scott Norris of Brazil and extended family members Jimmy Norris and Renee Leslie and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Noon with visitation from 10:00 am till service time with Joe Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Cottage Hill cemetery with Military Graveside Services by American Legion Post #2 and VFW Post 1127.

Dorothy Ruth Dressler
February 25, 1913 - December 21, 2003
Dorothy Ruth Dressler, 90, of Brazil, died at 3:27 pm December 21, 2003 at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility, where she had resided since breaking a hip in February. Previously she lived 28 years at Cooper Towers.
Born February 25, 1913 in Brazil, she was the daughter of Ethel Knott McDonald and Charles “Mickey” McDonald.
In 1934, she married Roy Dressler of Center Point, who died in 1957. The had a son, Jim Dressler, who lives in Brazil.
After her husband died at the age of 47, she worked at three Brazil restaurants, including the Oak, Brown’s, and the M&M;, before joining the custodial staff of Clay Community Schools. Her favorite job was operating the Brazil Junior High School Snack Bar for Marvin Schopmeyer, principal of the school during that era. Many students assisted her during the daily lunch hour in exchange for free meals. In addition, she became fond of all the teachers who ate lunch there or stopped for quick snacks between class sessions during the day.
She grew up attending the United Brethren Church in Brazil, which her parents helped relocate to North Forest Avenue, and later attended the First Christian Church and Christ Community Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #80.
Survivors, in addition to her son, are: a daughter-in-law, Janice Dressler of Brazil; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Wayne Parkins of Murphysboro, Ill; five grandchildren, Harry Dressler of Lebanon, OH, Jana Nees of Brazil, Perry Dressler of Lexington, KY, Jayme Robbins of Indianapolis, and Roy Dressler of Terre Haute; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles “Chuck” McDonald, Roy “Ducky” McDonald, and Jack McDonald; and a sister, Mary Anne Matherly.
Pallbearers will be Harry Dressler, Perry Dressler, Roy Dressler, Bill McDonald, Larry McDonald and Mark Parkins.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 pm Friday, Dec. 26 by pastor Tim Russell at French Funeral Home in Brazil. Visitation will be 11:30 am until the time of service. Burial will be at Summit Lawn cemetery.
