Austin Kyle Drake
February 08, 1984 - September 02, 2003
Austin Kyle Drake, 19 of Centerpoint, died September 2, 2003 at 3:30am at his residence. He had been battling a brain tumor for the past six years.
He was born February 8, 1984 in Terre Haute, the son of Terry and Melody Brush Drake. He graduated from Calvary Christian School in Linton in 2003. He was a member of the Maryland Community Church, and served on the prayer team. He was a recipent of many blessings through the Make a Wish Foundation. He was a sports enthusiast, especially the Indiana Pacers.
He is survived by his parents, Terry and Melody Drake of Centerpoint, his sister Alisha Drake at home; grandparents, Carolyn and Bob McCauley and Bill and Maria Brush all of Terre Haute; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Virgil and Ramona Drake.
A Celebration of Kyle’s Life will be held Friday at 7:30pm at the Maryland Community Church, in the Atrium. Private family graveside services will be held Friday at 10:30am at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Terre Haute with Pastor Vince McFarland officiating.
The family has requested that no flowers be sent. They would appreciate memorial contributions to be directed to the “Make a Wish Foundation”.

James R. Buell
May 09, 1914 - January 13, 2004
James R. Buell, 89 of Greencastle, formerly of Staunton, died January 13, 2004 at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility at 8:35pm. He had been a resident there only since the first of January.
He was born May 9, 1914 in Clay County, the son of Charles Ross Buell and Nettie Lee Gregory Buell. He graduated from Staunton High School, Class of 1932. He attended Purdue University. He was a Minor League Baseball player for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and continued the love of baseball all his life. He worked at Allisons in Indianapolis retiring after 31 years.
He was a member of Masons F&AM; Knightsville Lodge #409 for 63 years.
He attended Big Walnut Baptist Church and the Staunton Christian Church. In his retirement years, he found great enjoyment in watching his grandchildren, in their chosen sporting events.
He is survived by his children, Alan Buell and his wife Donna of Brazil, daughter Jannette Roberts and husband Bob of Greencastle; daughter in law, Sharon Buell Miller; 7 grandchidren, Scott Buell and wife Kasey, Bethany Buell, Jeff Buell and wife Michelle, Marty Buell and wife Joni Buell, Joni Sutherland and husband Marc, Nathan Roberts and Kyle Roberts; 6 great-grandchildren, Foster Buell, Sydney Buell, Sophia Buell, Lainy Buell, J.D. Buell, and A.J. Buell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline McKinney Buell in 1988; their son James Buell, Jr.in 1995; and a grandson Jason Roberts in 1982.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:00pm at Miller Memorial Chapel with Brother Doug Parkey officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11-1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Jim Buell Scholarship Fund or The Big Walnut Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. Arrangements entrusted to French Funeral Home.

Everett L. Biggs
January 30, 1934 - January 12, 2004
Everett L. Biggs, 69, of Terre Haute, formerly of Brazil, died January 12, 2004 at 11:40am at his residence following a brief bout with cancer.
He was born January 30, 1934 in Clay County, the son of Albert and Odetta Snyder Biggs. He graduated from Staunton High School, Class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
As a young man, he worked at the Brazil Clay Factory. Later he was a driver and a supervisor for UPS. He last worked as a stationary engineer for Terre Haute Regional Hospital, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing, and was a skilled woodcrafter. He often displayed his craft at the Bridgeton Mill and during Covered Bridge Festival. He was a life member of the VFW #1127 and the American Legion Post # 40
June 26, 1957 he married Carol Howard Biggs, she survives.
Also surviving are their two daughters, Vickie Bays and husband George and Beth Francis; four grandchildren, Trey Bays, Nicole Francis, Meagan Francis and Katie Francis all of Terre Haute; one sister Carolyn Loveall also of Terre Haute; nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at French Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Steeb officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Military graveside services will be provided by VFW #1127 and American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8pm with military walk in at 6:30pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Vista Care Hospice and American Cancer Society.

Margretta Raper Cassel
June 04, 1899 - November 18, 2003
Margretta Raper Cassel, 104, of Brazil died November 18th, 2003 in her residence.
She was born June 4, 1899 in Clay County, the daughter of John Stevenson and Martha Margretta Morgan Stevenson. She graduated from Brazil High School. In her lifetime, she owned and operated the Brazil Daily Times and the Monticello Herald Newspaper. She was a bookkeeper and an accomplished businesswoman. She was a current member of Tri-Kappa Associates. She was a past member of the Brazil Business and Professional Women; the Brazil 1st Presbyterian Church; she was active in the Republican Party; she was the first woman to serve on the Indiana State Fair Board; she was a generous benefactor to many organizations in Clay County. She donated the building that is currently home to the Community Theater.
She enjoyed traveling, and lived in the Tampa- St. Petersburg area in Florida for many years.
She is survived by her sister Mary Katherine Thomas of Brazil; four nieces, Gretta Sue Vanzo of Rosedale, Pattie Toffolo of Terre Haute, Joyce Mercer of Bradenton, FL., and Martha Johnson of Terre Haute; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and her loyal caregivers, Ruth Haas, Jeannie Patrick, Delores Clark, Alma Frost, Angie Malicoat, Jared and Jackie Chastain, Joyce Mercer and Hazel Martin.
She was preceded in death by her first husband James Raper; their two children, Martha Jane Raper and Jimmy Raper; her second husband John Cassel; two brothers Will Stevenson and John Stevenson; three sisters Ann White, Frieda Mershon, and Elizabeth Rojahn.
Services will be held Friday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Gary Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow at Cottage Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00.

Mr. Thomas J. Gerth, II
Mr. Thomas J. Gerth, II, 45, of Seymour passed away Thursday, November 6th, 2008 at his residence.
Tom was born in Seymour, IN on April 30, 1963, the son of Thomas J. Gerth, Sr. and Carol L. (Allman) Gerth-Hunter.
He was a truck driver for Blue Dolphin Pools and a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
His survivors include his parents, a son Thomas Gerth III, a brother, Vince (Stacy) Gerth, and a sister, Pam (Greg) Baurle, six nieces and nephews, Addison, Delanie and Landon Gerth, and Brandon, Scott, and Anna Baurle.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at Riverview cemetery on Tuesday November 11, 2008 at 2:30 PM with Father Todd Goodson officiating.
Friend may call at Voss Chapel on Tuesday from 12:00-2:00 PM.

Chester Burnette
February 28, 1934 - June 25, 2004
Chester “Chet” Burnette, 70, of Reelsville died June 25, 2004 at 8:55 PM at his residence.
He was born in London, Kentucky on February 28, 1934 the son of Balton and Laura Jones Burnette. Chet resided in Reelsville, Indiana with his wife Dottie Dorothy B. (Melton) Burnette. They were married on September 8, 1978 in London, Kentucky.
Chet retired September 16, 1997 from Sharp Ford, Indianapolis, Indiana. He had been a mechanic, he loved watching sports and being on his CB. He had coached and raced cars. He loved to fish and hunt. He liked to bowl and play euchre. Chet enjoyed his garden and mowing his lawn.
Chet was saved by his preacher, Steven Blaydes of the Putnamville Baptist Church, Putnamville, Indiana.
His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters Shirley Burgess, Sharon Burnette, and Lori Dodge; two sons, Kevin Burnette, and Martin Burnette; one stepdaughter Cynthia Massey; two stepsons Charles Smith and William Smith; eight grandchildren; four great-grand children; fourteen step-grandchildren; and thirteen step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Johnson and Cathy King of Indianapolis; three brothers, Virgil Burnette, and James Burnette of Indianapolis, and Doug Burnette of Manchester, KY.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 10:30am at House-Rawlings Funeral Home, 510 E. 4th Street, London, Kentucky 40741 with Pastor Steven Blaydes officiating. Burial will follow in Gilbert cemetery, Sasser, Laurel County, Kentucky. Visitation will be Monday at House-Rawlings from 6-9pm.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Paul F. Begeman
January 08, 1923 - August 15, 2004
Paul F. Begeman, 81 of Terre Haute passed away Sunday, August 15, 2004 in his residence.
He was born January 8, 1923 in Freelandville, Indiana to Fred and Olga Strait Begeman. Mr. Begeman was a 1941 graduate of Freelandville High School and a 1948 graduate of Purdue University and later completed his Masters. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theater in WWII and received the Distinguished Service Medal and was a member of the Mayflower United Church of Christ in Naples, FL and a past member of the Brazil Rotary Club. He taught Vocational Agriculture at Freelandville High School and also was a County Agriculture Agent for 24 years in Tippecanoe, Clay and Vigo Counties, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louretta Barton Begeman; son, John Paul Begeman of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Alice Romas and husband Jim of Brazil; brother, Conrad Begeman of Freelandville; 3 grandsons, Chris Romas of Indianapolis and Matt Romas and Brandon Romas of Brazil.
Services will be Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 10 AM in the French Funeral Home with visitation from 4-8 PM Tuesday August 17, 2004 in the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Calvary cemetery Mausoleum in Terre Haute.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Leon Bell Jr.
October 26, 1923 - March 14, 2004
Leon Bell, Jr., age 80 of Brazil, died March 14, 2004 at 2:22 PM at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born October 26, 1923 in Center Point the son of Leon Harvey and Lillian Maegerlein Harvey.
He was a member of the Brazil Elks where he had served as Secretary, Past Exhausted Ruler and was on the Initiation Ritual Team, past president of the Rotary and enjoyed cooking. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church where he had been a deacon, elder and clerk of session. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity at Indiana University.
He enjoyed Big Band music, Frank Sinatra, Jazz, and Benny Goodman.
On September 21, 1945 he married Martha Ellen Blower, she survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Martha Bell of Brazil; their children Leon Bell III and Mary Ann Steinhilber of Avon, John Bell and wife Denise of Indianapolis; and one aunt Gene Wirth of Terre Haute.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Miller Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with the Elks Memorial Service at 7:00 PM.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Brazil Elks #762 scholarship fund, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary Love Adamson
December 31, 1910 - April 05, 2004
Mary Love Adamson, 93 of Greencastle died April 5, 2004 at Rockville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockville. She had been a resident there since November 2002.
Born December 31, 1910 in Salisbury, North Carolina, she was the daughter of John Thomas Love and Susan Elizabeth Pace Love. She was a member of the Lena United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of Salisbury Chapter #117 of the Order of Eastern Star; and the Tri-County Extension Club.
On September 29, 1958 she married Howard Randall Adamson. He preceded her in death February 7, 1993.
Survivors include, one brother Edgar Robert Love of Greensboro, N.C., one sister-in-law, Leslie Love of Salisbury, N.C.; two step-daughters, Ellen Thomas and Ethel Watt; two step-daughters in law, Marie and Delilah Adamson, and nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul, Thomas and Tince Love, a sister-in-law Laverne Love; two step sons, Raymond and George Adamson; and two step son-in-laws, Gerald Thomas and Byron Watt.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 am at Lawson-Slack Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Kumpf and Jay Wayne Love officiating. Burial will follow in Calcuta cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home with Eastern Star services being held at 7:00 PM.
The family suggests that friends expression of sympathy be a donation to the Lena United Methodist Church or their favorite charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

L. Darlene Brewer
December 29, 1932 - August 19, 2004
L. Darlene Brewer, 71 of Brazil passed away August 19, 2004 7:05 am at her residence.
She was born December 29, 1932 in Moberly, MO., the daughter of Ben and Sarah Boulware. She graduated from high school and attended one year of college. She was the district manager for Perfered Risk Insurance.
She married Kenneth Brewer on October 19, 1990, he survives.
She was an active member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Center Point. She played the piano and was the choir director of the church.
She was a member of the German Oberlanders Club in Terre Haute, and the Cloverland Extension Club. She dearly loved music and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband Ken; one son, Stan Snell of Spring Valley, CA; one daughter Sarah Whitehead and her husband Rex of Brazil; one grandson, Richard Stone of California; one brother, Richard Howren and his wife Joyce of St. Charles, MO.
Services will be held Monday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Pastors Ted Schory and Steve Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8pm and again Monday prior to services.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
