Virginia Otto
Virginia Otto, 93, passed away Saturday, October 4th, 2008 at Schneck Medical Center.
Virginia was born in Seymour on January 9, 1915, to David and Nell Humes Green. She was a lifelong resident of Seymour, graduating from Seymour High School and attending Franklin College.
On May 2, 1936 Virginia married Donald Otto, also of Seymour. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1981. She was secretary in the Seymour Public Schools and for many years worked in the office of Dr. Bud Graessle.
Virginia was an active member of Central Christian Church. She was a volunteer with Friends of the Library, an avid bridge player and sports fan. In her younger days she enjoyed playing golf at the Seymour Country Club and tennis at the court at Freeman Field. She loved traveling with friends to Florida, as well as vacationing in New York, Washington, D.C., and Canada with her niece. She will be remembered for her Hoosier humor and sharp wit.
Her survivors include a niece, Donna Patton and husband Dr. Ron Patton of Fairway, Kansas, nephews Dick Avery and his wife Robin of Houston, Texas, Steve Hyde and his wife Janet of Naperville, Illinois, and Dr. Richard Hyde of Angwin, California. She has six great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-niece.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Ruth Hyde and LaDonna Avery.
Memorial services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, October 11, at Central Christian Church, Seymour, with Rev. Jon Carlstrom officiating.
Voss Funeral Service is handling the private burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Central Christian Church, Seymour.

Margaret F. Krauchi
August 18, 1925 - June 12, 2004
Margaret F. Stunkard Krauchi, 78 of Clay City passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004 in the Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jasonville. She married Richard Hale Krauchi on July 7, 1946. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Krauchi and her husband had owned and operated the Krauchi's Red and White Grocery Store in Clay City for 30 years retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Clay City Free Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxillary #6606. Survivors include 2 sons, Monte L. Krauchi of Clay City and Wade Krauchi of Bamberg, Germany and 2 grandchildren, Nick and Catlin Krauchi.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 15, 2004 in Maple Grove cemetery in Clay City. Schoppenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Madge E. Kidwell
July 31, 1909 - July 08, 2004
Madge E. Kidwell, 94, Brazil, died at 8:50 am Thursday, July 8, at the Clay County Health Center where she had been a patient since Nov. 2003. Her residence was formerly on Waterworks Road for many years. She was born in Posey Township in Clay County on July 31, 1909, the daughter of Albert Maurer and Barbara Steuerwald Maurer. She was a 1926 graduate of Brazil High School. Later she earned a B.S. Degree in Education from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. For most of her teaching career she taught at the elementary school in Staunton. Her memberships included the Berea Christian Church.
Proceding her in death were a son, Max Kidwell, a brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Flora Maurer, and a grandson, Damon Myrick.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Don and Ruth Ann Kidwell, Brazil; a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Bill Myrick, Brazil' one daughter-in-law, Joyce Kidwell, Rockville; seven grandchildren, Bob Kidwell and wife Mary, Bill Kidwell and wife Yong, Pastor Mary Kidwll, Diane Jensen and husband Randy, Dawn Ann Fulks and husband Chuck, Hank Kidwell and wife Jennifer, Darrin Kidwell and wife Heather, ten great-grandchildren, Rob Kidwell and wife Emily, Sean Beikman, Beth Kidwell, Andy Fulks, Jonathan Jensen, Ben Fulks, Hilary Jensen, Sarah Fulks, Zoe Kidwell, and Grace Kidwell, one niece, Sally Maurer, Terre Haute; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Kidwell, Brazil.
Services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday in Miller Memorial Chapel. Rev. Howard Hughes will officiate, and burial will be in Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Saturday.

Joe Grey Jr.
January 29, 1923 - May 29, 2004
Joe Grey, Jr., 81 of Brazil died May 29, 2004 at 12:50 am at his residence due to complications from mucosal melanoma cancer.
He was born January 29, 1923 in Brazil the son of Joseph Grey, Sr. and Anna Nicholson Grey. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1941. He also attended Indiana State University. On December 16, 1943 he married Joy Raines Grey, she survives.
He served in the First Air Force during WW II. He was a gunnery instructor at Westover Field, MA. He served for three years achieving the rank of Sergeant.
He worked as the manager for Dix Lumber for 25 years, and Associated Door and Plywood for ten years. He also worked for S.H. Pawley Lumber in Center Point and Brazil. Following his retirement in 1986, he worked with his son, Mike Grey, with Grey Custom Woodworking, in homebuilding and cabinetry. Mike preceded him in death October 19, 2000.
He is survived by his wife Joy of Brazil; daughter in law, Janet Grey; grandson, Clint Grey all of Brazil; granddaughter Alyssa Grey of Indianapolis; one brother Don Grey and his wife Phyllis of Brazil; two sisters Betty Harris of Brazil and Shirley Boyce and husband Don of Greenfield; nieces, nephews and other extended family
He was preceded in death by is parents, his son Michael Grey; three half brothers, Floyd, Lester, and Herbert Grey; one half sister, Elizabeth Wagle.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00am French Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Caring Ministry at the First United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jasper Junior Hammons
October 15, 1928 - September 30, 2004
Rev. Jasper Junior Hammons, 75 of Clay City passed away September 30, 2004 in his residence. He was born October 15, 1928 in Smartsburg, Indiana to Jasper and Nora Alice Baker Hammons. He retired from ServiceMaster after many years as director of environmental services and was also an ordained Baptist minister serving the Barnard Baptist Church and the Eminence Baptist Church and also serving with his wife as youth director at 1st Baptist Church in Crawfordsville. Rev. Hammons was a member of the Winamac Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Clorissa Taylor, 2 brothers, Charlie and John Hammons and 2 sisters, Mary Couts and Helen Rhine. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Stella Deaton Hammons; 4 daughters, Jacqueline Hammons of Clay City, Peggy Burton and husband Harold of Clay City, Judy Childers and husband Rick of Shelbyville and Connie Taylor and husband Ed of Cloverdale; 2 sons, Ronald Hammons and wife Alice of South Carolina, Dennis Hammons and wife Lisa of Springfield, Illinois and 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 2, 2004 in the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City with visitation from 4-8 pm Friday, Octoboer 1, 2004. Burial will be in the Lebanon cemetery in Midland, Indiana.

Margaret A. Jones
March 06, 1912 - December 20, 2003
Margaret A. Jones, 91 of Brazil died December 20, 2003 at 9:00pm at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility.
She was born March 6, 1912 in Parke County the daughter of William F. Starnes and Sarah E. Kinsey Starnes. She was a graduate of Brazil High School Class of 1930. May 12, 1932 she married John Harry Jones.
She graduated from beautician school in Indianapolis, and had a beauty shop called “Jenny Lind Beauty Shop” for many years. She enjoyed visiting with friends and knitting.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Jacqueline and William Price; three grandchildren, John Price and wife Terry, Ann Hayes and husband Greg, and Jamie Webster and husband Dan all of Brazil; great-grandchildren, Mica Amis and husband Joe of Plainfield, Mandy Smith, Jenna Smith, Hayley Hayes, Lexee Hayes, Amy Price, Rebecca Price, Jamie Price all of Brazil; three great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother William C. Starnes, two sisters, Lenora Zellmer, and Dorcas Megenhardt.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2:30pm at Cottage Hill cemetery with Rev. William Price officiating. French Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

Laura E. Jones
Laura E. Jones, age 49, died Sunday morning, November 2, 2008, at her residence in Linton. She was born in Gary on July 13, 1959, daughter of Ellis & Fern (Hirsh) Vibbert. She worked in sales. She was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton.
She is survived by her husband, Larry R. Jones of Linton, whom she married April 25, 1989, her two daughters, Cassandra Thomas of Bloomfield & Autumn Hufstedler of Linton, a special niece, Darleen Combess of Burn City, a sister, Linda Dorado of Crown Point, and a granddaughter, Alexia.
She is preceded in death by a sister, Becky Johnston.
A Private Committal service will be held at the Burn City cemetery in Burn City on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
A private family visitation & ceremony, with Father Michael Madden officiating, will be held at the Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the family through the funeral home.

Mrs. Martha "Mary" Smith
Mrs. Martha "Mary" Smith, 82, of Seymour, IN, passed away October 18, 2008 at 6:15 am in Franklin, IN. at The Meadows Health Care Campus.
Mrs. Smith was born in Scottsburg, IN, on May 17, 1926, the daughter of Walter and Stella (Conry) McQuilling.
On September 2, 1990, in Seymour, she married Joseph E. Smith, who survives.
Mary was a member of Uniontown Baptist. She had been a restaurant employee.
Besides her husband, she is survived by; six step daughters; Nellie MacWilson, Macy June Hilton, Geneva Watson, Josephine Jackson, Pauline Hicks, Nancy Howard; three step sons; Jerry Wayne Smith, John Edward Smith, Steve Weddle; and a sister, Bertha Marion.
She was preceded in death her first husband, Victor Weddle, 2 daughters Peggy McNulty and Janice McNulty; 1 step daughter, Ella Mae Day, brother; Willie McQuilling, sisters; Mae Beavers, Naomi McClellen, Juanita Broady, Mildred Rutherford.
Funeral services will be held at Voss Chapel on Wednesday at 1:00 pm with
Rev. Roger Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Uniontown cemetery with a Voss Dove Release.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Tuesday 4-8 pm and on Wednesday one hour prior to service time.
Memorials may be written to American Kidney Association.

Mrs. Esther L. Mackey
Mrs. Esther L. Mackey, 94, of Seymour, passed away at 2:45 AM, Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 at Millers Merry Manor in Hope, IN.
Esther was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 9, 1914, the daughter of Henry and Amanda (Snyder) Wilkins. On July 21, 1934 in Brownstown she married Earl W. Mackey. He preceded her on January 7, 1985.
She was a member of Immanuel Luthern Church and a homemaker.
Her survivors include: two daughters, Shirley (Van) Swindall and Earlene (Wayne) Schutte, two grandchildren, Justin Baier and Sonya Cahalen, three great-grandchildren Zachary, Lisa, and Jamie Cahalen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Elmer Wilkins, George Wilkins, Marshall Wilkins, and two sisters, Edith Miller and Kate Harness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday Nov. 7 at Voss Chapel with Rev. Philip Bloch.
Burial will be at Riverview cemetery.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2008 and after 9:30 on Friday.

Jesse N. Thomas
Jesse N. Thomas, age 90 of Linton, passed away at 11:40 A.M. on Saturday, April 07, 2012, at the Linton Nursing and Rehab in Linton. He was born in Linton on July 3, 1921, the son of Wayne & Lillie (Hollingsworth) Thomas. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. Jesse retired from the Hawthorn Coal Mine, Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #866, and the American Legion Post #22, all of Linton. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He is survived by his daughters, Dedra (Gerald) Carr of Linton and Debbie (Ted) Riggins of Odon, a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Thomas-Sweeney of Vincennes, a sister, Wilhelmina Lehman of Linton, seven grandchildren, Chris (Nicky) Carr, Derek (Kara) Thomas, Danielle (Andy) Vieck, David (Jennie) Carr, Sage Riggins, Matthew (Beth) Riggins, and Beth Ann Riggins, nine great-grandchildren, D'Lee Vieck, Alexis Vieck, Emma Carr, Keagan Thomas, Lily Carr, Keanna Thomas, Alexcis Riggins, Robert Riggins, and Bryce Riggins, and a great-grandson due in June to David and Jennie Carr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Thomas on Oct. 10, 2011, son, Dan Thomas, and two brothers, Muriel & Wendell “Doc” Thomas.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 12, 2012, Rev.'s Kenneth Adams & David Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Linton with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Linton American Legion Post #22 of Linton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., and Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.

Mollie Sue Corley
Mollie Sue Corley, age 70, of Linton, passed away at 8:24 P.M. Tues., April 10, 2012, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born March 17, 1942, in Praise, KY, the daughter of John & Betty (Bingham) Pitts.
She had worked at Tree of Life in Bloomington, at Pent Assemblies in Rome City, & in the mail room services in Brentwood, TN. She was a member of the Apostolic Bible Way Church in Linton & enjoyed playing the guitar by ear & singing.
Survivors include her husband, Jason J. Corley, to whom she was very happily married on Dec. 21, 2006, five daughters, Denise Hannah of Princeton, Roberta Owsley, Velma Flores of Princeton, Jeannette Owsley, & Betty Carlton, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, & four siblings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, & a son, Raymond Owsley.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wed., April 18, at Sassafras cemetery in Linton, Steve Williams officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Tues., April 17, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton. There will be no visitation on Wed. at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the family through the funeral home.
