Josephine Slapar
Josephine Slapar, age 89, of Linton, passed away at 5:10 A.M. Thurs., May 3, 2012, at Linton Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born July 13, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph & Rose (Kovic) Tomazic.
Jo graduated from Chaffey High School in Ontario, CA, & attended commercial art school in Detroit, Michigan. She worked as a commercial artist for Consolidated Air Craft in San Diego, CA, during WW II & later for the Maurice Haag Laboratory in Linton. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Linton & served on the Salvation Army Board & on the Glenburn Home Board.
Survivors include two daughters, Trudie Jo (Jim) Yates of Lewis & Tina Marie Jernigan of Bloomington, a sister, Beverly (Richard) Reeder of Tucson, AZ, a granddaughter, Heather Lea Aloor of Chapel Hill, NC, a niece, Nancy Reeder, & two nephews, Steve & Ron Reeder.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Anton Slapar, Jr., & a son-in-law, James Jernigan.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 A.M. Sat., May 5, at Fairview cemetery in Linton, Scott McBride officiating. The Linton American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a memorial graveside service.
Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Legion Post #22 through the funeral home.

Jack Henico
Jack R. Henico, age 65 of Linton, passed away Friday afternoon, May 4, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Linton on Feb. 22, 1947, the son of Henry & Thelma “Tippy” Henico. He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from Roadway Express after 27 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Wayne Post #64 in Indianapolis.
Jack is survived by his wife, Peggy S. (Folsom) Henico of Linton, two sons, Brad (Jamie) Henico of Pendleton and Jeff (Jeri Sue) Henico of Linton, a brother, Dennis Henico of Linton, and three grandsons, Jake, Tyler, and Briley Henico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Bill Holder, and two sisters, Janet Taylor and Judy Weaver.
Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Monday, May 7, from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service at 7:30 P.M., with a eulogy given by Dixie House. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M., with burial at Fairview cemetery in Linton at 11:00 A.M.
Memorial contributions can be given to the American Lung Association through the funeral home.

Duane R. Daugherty
Duane R. Daugherty, Sr., age 63, of Linton, passed away on Monday morning, May 7, 2012, at his residence. He was born Sept. 8, 1948, in Linton, the son of George & Mary (Burger) Daugherty.
He was a 1968 graduate of Shakamak High School & a 1980 graduate of Ivy Tech. He retired from the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. Duane was a devoted & loving family man.
He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married Jan. 26, 1973, Karlene H. (Hensley) Daugherty of Linton, three sons, Duane R. Daugherty, Jr. of Linton, Terry (Tisha) Daugherty of Fort Campbell, KY, & Zachary Daugherty of Linton, a brother, Larry Daugherty of Jasonville, a sister, Janice (Daugherty) Greene of Jasonville, four grandsons, Blake, Devon, Gavin, & Jaden Daugherty, & a granddaughter, Riley Daugherty.
He was preceded in death by his parents & a sister, Sharon (Daugherty) Earle.
Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett from 4-8 P.M. Fri. & at 9-11 A.M. Saturday.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 A.M. Sat., May 12, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, Reverend John E. Catchem officiating. Burial will follow at Bohley cemetery near Linton. American Legion Post #22 will conduct military graveside rites.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family through the funeral home.

James Robert "Jim" Oswald
James Robert “Jim” Oswald, 71, of Worthington passed away at 2:30 A. M., Tuesday, May 08, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 5, 1940, French Lick, Paul Henry & Dorothy Mae (Goldsmith) Oswald.
Jim retired from Westinghouse in Bloomington after 32 1/2 years. Jim was a veteran of the Air Force, then spent 20 years in the reserves. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife Paula (Anderson) Oswald, Worthington; 2 children, Robert Brian (Katherine) Walden, Brazil; Constance Rene’ Walden, Indianapolis; 2 grandchildren, Jessica (James) Little; Brian Walden; 2 great grand, Cameron & Evan; 2 step-children, Michael Allen (Angie) Firrone; Tiffany Firrone; 6 step-grandchildren, David, Kenya, Taylor, Raylyn, Rosie & Haley; 3 brothers, Paul, Ron & Gary Oswald; 2 sisters, Yvonne Powell, Claudia Willard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, John.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, 1:00 P. M. Friday, May 11, 2012.
Friends may call at Welch & Cornett 4:00 to 9:00 P. M. Thursday and 11:00 A. M. Friday until time of service
Burial will be in Worthington cemetery.

Debra J. Mathew
Debra J. Mathew, 52, of Bloomfield, passed away at her residence, 5:00 A. M. Thursday, May 03, 2012.
She was born July 10, 1959, Logansport, Indiana to the late, Dr. Jesse Donald & Dorothy Hubbard.
Debra was a member of the Worthington First Baptist Church, served in the US Army, G.E employee for 10 years, owned and operated a horse business; she was a horse breeder, farmer, showed horses around the U.S., raised Blue Healers and cattle. She loved to can, quilt and garden. She helped others decorate their homes and enjoyed watching birds from the front porch.
She is survived by a daughter, Candice (Shawn) Sanders, Spencer; son, Tony (Heather) Hubbard, Worthington; 2 grandchildren, Devin and Kailey Sanders.
A time of sharing memories of Debra 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, Welch & Cornett Worthington Chapel.
Friends may call at Welch & Cornett after 11:00 A. M. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Pleasant Bethel cemetery.

Dale Carpenter
Dale Austin Carpenter, age 84 of Linton, passed away at home, with family by his side, at 12:54 A.M. on Saturday, May 19, 2012. He was born March 27, 1928, in Linton, the son of Frank & Ruth (Rollins) Carpenter.
Dale worked many hard years as a farmer with his wife working by his side. He attended Sassafras School and was a graduate of Switz City Central High School. He enjoyed many summers in Canada and winters in Florida, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and attended the Linton First United Methodist Church for several years. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #866 in Linton. He also served many years as president of the Greene County Drainage Board & maintained Sassafras Water Company.
He is survived by his loving & devoted wife of 62 years whom he married Feb. 5, 1950, Gloria Mae (Hamner) Carpenter; two sons, Bill (Diane) Carpenter and Danny (Teresa) Carpenter, both of Linton; three grandsons, Steve (Chantel) Carpenter, Mike Carpenter, and Eric (D’Lee) Carpenter; two granddaughters, Brandy (Clayton) Kohlman and Danielle (Brett) Feltner; eight great-grandchildren, Trent, Trey, Whitney, & Dalton Carpenter, Graysun & Amasa Kohlman, and Hayden & Avery Feltner; and a sister, Norma (John) Stuller of Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Wayne Carpenter; and a brother-in-law, Charles Hamner.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel cemetery in Lyons.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., with an Elks Memorial Service at 7:00 P.M., and visitation will continue Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Linton First United Methodist Church through the funeral home.

Mary Beth Moss
September 22, 1913 - December 30, 2009
Mary Beth Schnitzler Moss 96, Plainfield, Indiana passed away Wednesday December 30, 2009. She was born September 22, 1913 in Persimon Grove, Kentucky the daughter of William and Bertha Schnitzler.
Mrs. Moss was a Nurse's Aid and a member of Westside Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are her son, Royster Moss; daughters, Sylvia Ramey, Marilyn Stricklin, Patye Bridget; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erban Moss.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Westside Church of the Nazarene with calling there two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Antioch cemetery, Beebee, Arkansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westside Church of the Nazarene 8610 West 10th. Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46234.

Lydia Evans
HATFIELD - Lydia Evans, 83, formerly of Hatfield, Ind., died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at her home in Chatsworth, Ga.
She is survived by sons, Dan Evans and Chuck Boyd; daughters, Patricia Boyd and Charlene Kowalski; brothers, Don and Chet Druelinger; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service was held at James Parker cemetery. Boultinghouse Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Allen
MCLEANSBORO - John Allen, 31, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, on Interstate 164 in Vanderburgh County, Ind. He was a truck driver.
He is survived by wife, Melesa; parents John Allen and June Johnson; sons, John and Tyler Laughard; daughter, Harlie; grandparents, Cyril and Sylvia Doerner; and brothers, Anthony Garrison and Jeff Parker.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Gholson Funeral Home, with burial in Brush Harbor cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mayzetta F. "Mazie" Lenges
Mayzetta F. "Mazie" Lenges, 78, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Thursday May 24, 2007, at Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg.
She moved to St. Petersburg in 1972 from her native Evansville. She was an inspector for the Whirlpool Appliance Corp. in Evansville. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Gulfport, Fla. She was a board member of the Fountains of Boca Ciega Bay, where she was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Pinellas County, and a volunteer for Saint Vincent DePaul at Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She is survived by a son, John Phillip Lenges, of St. Petersburg; two daughters, Jeanne Coffin, of St. Petersburg and Pam Overton, of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, Melissa Tober, of Atlanta, Ga., John and Jacob Lenges, and Jason and Gina Pagano, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a great-grandchild, Makenna Lenges, of St. Petersburg, Fla.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2007, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Gulfport, Fla. The interment will follow at Bay Pines National cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1236 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47714, or Pines of Sarasota 1501 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota, FL 34236. R. Lee Williams & Son Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Petersburg, Fla., (727) 527-1177, in care of arrangements.

Martha Anne Baxter White
Martha Anne Baxter White, 78, formerly of Evansville, was born in Memphis on April 3, 1929, and died Friday, June 8, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill, Wallace and Thomas Baxter and is survived by her loving husband, James White; daughter, Karen Scott; son, David White; sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Hall, Betty McDearmon, Julia Craig and Gloria Jeanne Roberts; five grandchildren; one great-grandson, nieces and a nephew. Martha was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church.
Martha's husband, James, wishes to thank Kirby Woods, as well as several other churches for their prayers, visits and much love during her illness and passing. He also wishes to thank Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Baxter for great support during the hospitalization time.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Memphis Fuenral Home Poplar. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Interment will be held privately for the family only at Memorial Park Southwoods cemetery in Memphis.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be designated to Kirby Woods Baptist Church Kitchen.

Melody (Huddleston) Bryant
Melody (Huddleston) Bryant, 41, of Evansville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, after a long battle with leukemia.
She was born and raised in Evansville where she met her husband, Randy. They enjoyed traveling, fishing and gardening.
Melody cherished her time as a homemaker, helping to raise her children and grandchildren. She also liked to read and spend time with her pets. Melody was very detail oriented, well organized, and as her family grew, she enjoyed photo journaling.
Melody's faith was a constant in her life, along with her daily devotions and Bible study.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Essie May Ashby, and her beloved pet, Nick.
Melody is survived by her husband of 19 years, Randy; daughters, Andrea Dillman and husband, Travis, of Kurtz, Ind., Melissa Bryant of Evansville, and Lara Jensen, of Seymour, Ind.; parents, Jimmy and Lula Jane Huddleston, of Evansville; grandchildren, Tyler and Sariana Dillman, Kayden and Ceara Jensen; brothers, Jeff Butler and wife, Kathy, of Reed, Ky., Ron Butler and wife, Kathy, of Henderson, Ky., and Phillip Butler and wife, Shelly, of Henderson, Ky.; nieces and nephews, Ben, Eric, Joey, Caleb, Wil and Jarrod Butler, Jennifer Oliver, Jamie Dunton, Steve and Rodney Brownfield, Jill Snyder, Ashley and Jessica Bryant, and Ryan Rupp; aunt, Dorothy Ashby; uncle, Frank Ashby and wife, Adeline; and grandmothers, Velma Denlinger and Betty Bryant.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2007, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by the Rev. James Pickerill, with burial at Westlawn cemetery in Hanson, Ky. Friends may visit Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Hattie Marshall Wilson Cates
HENDERSON - Hattie Marshall Wilson Cates, 99, died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at her home. She was a member of First Christian Church.
She is survived by daughter, Bettye Denton; stepson, James; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, with burial in Fernwood cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and until service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.
