Charles Rolland (Chuck) Mays
September 02, 1921 - August 27, 2015
Charles R. "Chuck" Mays 93, of Peru, formerly of Onward, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 in Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.
Born September 2, 1921, in Kokomo, he was the son of the late Olin S. and Mary Louise (Rolland) Mays.
He was a 1939 graduate of Onward High School.
On June 28, 1941, in Peru, he married Bessie "Marie" (Huddleston) Mays who preceded him in death on July 16, 2015.
In September of 1944, Chuck enlisted in the U.S Army serving 2 years in the European Theatre during World War II.
A veteran of WWII, Chuck was the epitome of the Greatest Generation - fighting in a war to save the world and coming home to Onward to raise a family and start a business. He was a humble man with a strong work ethic. Chuck had also served as the Town Marshal of Onward and was a hard-working member of the Onward Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a devoted member of the Onward Christian Church and considered its members his extended family. Chuck also belonged to the American Legion Post in Walton. His warm smile and sense of humor endeared him to many friends.
Chuck is survived by two sons: Charles Allen Mays (wife: Lisa)of Walton, New York, and Gary LynnMays (wife:Sharon) of Peru; five grandchildren, Douglas, Dyanna, Danielle, Brian and Tonya Mays; three great-grandchildren, Amber Shotts, Adrienne R (Rush) Duepner and Andrew T Rush; two great-great-grandchildren, Dylan Marie Duepner and Ty Joseph Duepner; one brother, John (Margaret) Mays of Peru; three sisters-in-law Doris "Dot" Mays of Onward, Margaret (Marvin) Burkhardt and Mae (Paul) Brackeneimer; one brother-in-law, Randy (Melissa) Osborne, of Berea, Kentucky;and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Mays; two sisters, Audrey Jane Osborne and Ellen (William) Morris; three sisters-in-law Esther (Carl) Schini, Irene (James) Hollarman and Anna (Gaylord) Musselman; brothers-in-law Jason, Lewis, Howard and Leonard Huddleston; and one niece Sue Ellen Morris Branch.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Chuck Mays will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Onward Christian Church. Bob Kellems and Lisa Mays will be officiating.
Burial, with military honors will follow in the Mays cemetery, east of Onward.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Onward Christian Church.

Benjamin Allen Miller
May 07, 1993 - September 02, 2015
Benjamin Allen Miller, 22, of Walton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, in his home.
He was born May 7, 1993, in Kokomo, Indiana. Ben was a 2011 graduate of Lewis Cass High School, where he had served as the president of FFA.
For the past year, Ben had worked as an outstanding service technician at the top of his field with the Jenner Sales Corporation based in Harrisburg, Illinois. Prior to that he worked at DeHaven Soil Service in Walton for three years.
From the time he could reach the pedals and see over the steering wheel he was begging to help his grandpa Delbert on the farm. Later he helped out several area farmers during busy times.
Ben loved being outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing and riding his 4-wheeler. He was very good with his hands - give him something broken and he could fix anything. Ben was also very gifted when it came to mechanics and never hesitated to drop what he was doing to help a friend with vehicle troubles.
Ben's father gave him a guitar for his birthday one year and taught him how to begin. He enjoyed it and found solace in playing.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Mary Beth (Shriver) and Jim Shanks of Camden; his father, Jeffery Allen Miller of Noblesville; one brother Matthew J. Miller of Greenwood; one sister, Christy King and her husband Joel of Russiaville; his maternal grandmother, Carolyn Shriver of West Lafayette; his maternal grandfather Delbert Shriver of Walton; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Miller of Kokomo; his nieces, Carter Aleksandra Miller, Kiersten, Rylynn and Adlee King; an aunt and uncle Roselea and Alex Gonzalez of Lafayette; an uncle Daniel Shriver of Texas; three cousins, Grant, Lydia and Jack; and many, many friends who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Miller.
A funeral service celebrating Ben's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8th in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
A procession to West cemetery will follow.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 7th in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis Cass FFA.

Louise M. McDowell
October 06, 1922 - August 29, 2015
Louise M. McDowell, 92, of Logansport, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015, in North Woods Village, Kokomo, with her family by her side.
Born in Everette, Washington on October 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Bert Henry and Clara Belle Height Robideaux.
Louise enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in February of 1942 and was a proud veteran of World War II. While stationed in Florida, she met the love of her life, Donald Eugene McDowell. On August 17, 1945, in Tampa, Florida, the couple married . Don preceded her in death on August 8, 1980.
A graduate of Wright's Beauty College, she owned and operated Louise's Beauty Shop for a number of years.
Louise enjoyed reading. She also liked to watch animals. Louise was an excellent cook and especially loved to bake breads. Her love of travel left her with a lifetime of memories. In earlier years, Louise enjoyed bowling and pitching horseshoes.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Sandy) McDowell of Greentown and Gary (Jill) McDowell of Logansport; three grandchildren Richard Kelly McDowell, Angela M. (Fred) Schulte and Jeffry M. (Evelyn) McDowell; and three great-granddaughters, Amanda, Trinity and Heather.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and her grandson, Donald Walter McDowell.
In celebration of Louise McDowell's life, there will be a gathering of family and friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, in Fisher Funeral Chapel. Full military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the flag pole in the funeral chapel's garden.
Private inurnment will take place in the Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport, Cremation was entrusted to Fisher Funeral Chapel Cremation Services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society.

Herminia Ponce
January 15, 1937 - September 01, 2015
Herminia Ponce, 78, of Logansport, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, in St. Elizabeth Hospital-East, Lafayette.
Born Jan. 15, 1937, in San Luis, Mexico, she was the daughter of Esteban Ponce and Maria Infante.
She was married to Ruben Figueroa Torres who preceded in death.
She attended All Saints Catholic Church.
Surviving are her children: Gloria Figueroa, Candelario Figueroa, Miguel Angel Figueroa, Maria Dolores Bustos, Jose Luis Figueroa, Arturo Figueroa, Mario Alberto Figueroa, Maria Del Rosario Montalvo, Ruben Figueroa and Maria Elva Maldonado.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, in Fisher Funeral Chapel where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 in All Saints Catholic Church with Father Dominic Petan and Father Clayton Thompson officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church.

Dwight Eugene Reagan
June 17, 1945 - August 19, 2015
Dwight E. Reagan, 70, of Frankfort, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Indiana University Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born June 17, 1945 in Lebanon, Indiana, the son of Richard R. Reagan and Ruth M. (Brumbarger) Reagan.
Mr. Reagan was a 1964 graduate of Frankfort High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Dwight worked in sales for the Combined Insurance Company of Chicago, Illinois. Later in life he worked for Arab Pest Control in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He retired in 2009.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Post #72 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was former administrator of the Moose Lodge in Lebanon, Indiana. Dwight was of the Protestant faith. He enjoyed golf, watching western movies and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his siblings: Larry Reagan (Jimmie) of Rosepine, Louisiana and Betty J. Knox of Frankfort. Also surviving is a special nephew, Larry Randle (Kristin) of Lafayette, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Kathy Reagan and his two siblings, Jane Terry and Deb Buckles.
Dwight was able to give the gift of life by being an organ donor. In respect of his wishes there will be no services.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in his memory.

Dustin L. Rohler Ellison
March 09, 1984 - September 02, 2015
Dustin L. Rohler Ellison, 31 of Lafayette passed away on September 2, 2015.
He was born on March 9, 1984 in Lafayette to Deborah and Rick Ellison.
Dustin was a 2002 graduate of the Indiana School for the Deaf.
He attended Evergreen Wesleyan Church and was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his son and listening to music.
Dustin is survived by his parents; Deborah (partner; Stan Denham) Ellison of Lafayette and his father Rick Ellison of Delphi, his son; Carmello Johnson of Lafayette, brothers; Travis (wife; Bobbi) Ellison and Jason Ellison both of Delphi, and sister Misty Rohler of Lafayette.
Also surviving are his grandparents; Shirley and Harry Short of Lafayette, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a special cousin; Lewis Plybon.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Lafayette. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Joe Parks officiating. Burial will take place at Rest Haven cemetery at a later date.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Ellen May Curtis
May 01, 1938 - August 09, 2015
Ellen May Curtis, 77 years old, of Logansport, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 9, 2015, in the much-loved home she had designed and built. Ellen had battled cancer with every ounce of her being over the past 23 years.
Born May 1, 1938, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Eleanor Jane (Powers) Bell.
Ellen graduated from Logansport High School in 1956. She was a pupil of Sue Jones who taught her everything she knew about softball. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during peacetime. As a member of the Women's Air Force, she played basketball and softball on a traveling team. She met her husband, Fred Curtis, who was her coach in the WAF. They were married October 11, 1958, in the Wheatland Avenue U.M. Church. As a young couple, they lived at many Air Force bases over the years including Colorado, Texas and from 1966-69, the McKinley AFB in Bermuda. Fred preceded her in death May 29, 2009.
Ellen was an architectural designer with a strong work ethic. Her first job was at Ralph David's Electric. She later worked on the East Coast selling pots and pans. She went back to college at age 40 and in 1976 earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architectural Design from Purdue University. For many years, she designed homes for the Ray Hinkle Construction firm. She had also taught structural design at Ivy Tech while serving as a department chair in 1979-80. She was the manager of LB Shoes at the Logansport Mall and retired as the manager of the LB store in Kokomo.
Ellen grew up in the Wheatland Avenue Church. She later joined Market St. UMC, which is now Cross~Wind United Methodist, where she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Red Hat society. She volunteered with Special Olympics and served as a DeMolay mom when her sons were young. Ellen loved to draw. One of her drawings, "The Faces of Cancer" hangs in the chemo room at the Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by three sons, Michael (Denise) Curtis of Logansport, Dale Curtis of Everett, WA and Roger Curtis of Castleton, one daughter, Wendy Ellis of Twelve Mile; one brother, Dennis (Deborah) Bell of Indianapolis; one sister, Janet (Jim) Thomson of Logansport; a dear friend Pat Badt of Logansport five grandhildren, Curtis Ellis, Amber (Coy) Callis, Alex Curtis, Alexsandria Bilvin and Elizabeth Bilvin; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine, Buddy.
Ellen was preceded in death by one grandson, Willie Ellis.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Ellen Curtis will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Dr. George Plasterer officiating.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 13, in the funeral chapel.
Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Doris E. Kuszmaul
July 15, 1929 - August 18, 2015
Doris E. Kuszmaul, 86, of Logansport, passed away on August 18, 2015 at the IU Health Arnett in Lafayette.
Born July 15, 1929, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Naomi (McMillian) Nethercutt.
Doris enjoyed her job as a greeter at Walmart.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Walton, Indiana. Doris loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren,
Doris is survived by her son, Tracy Kuszmaul (wife Dianna) of Lafayette; Sister, Wilma Beck of Galveston; four grandchildren, Jesse Kuszmaul, Josh Kuszmaul, Morgan Staley and Van Smith; three great grandchildren, Gunnar Smith, Harley Smith and Zaiden Staley.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Mae Kitchel.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Doris Kuszmaul will be held at 1 p.m. on August 22, 2015, at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to the time of the service on Saturday.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Cass County Humane Society.
