Jerald L. Walkup, 78 years old, of Lafayette, IN, died 10:36 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2006 in St. Mary's Healthcare Center.
He was born June 10, 1927 in Kentland, Indiana, the son of the late Ira and Marilla Campbell Walkup. He married Ruth C. Hilchey on August 30, 1952, in Las Vegas, NV, and she survives.
He was a Army Veteran of WWII and Linwood Church of Christ. He enjoyed auctions and was a Licensed Autioneer. He was active in Colt Baseball. He was an avid Purdue fan and loved traveling.
He worked in the Switch Room for the General Telephone Company.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth C. Walkuip of Lafayette, IN; six sons, Steve(Debbie) D. Moody of Lafayette, IN, Phillip W. Walkup of Lafayette, IN, Kenneth(Laura) J. Walkup of Nipoms, CA, Paul(Mary Ann) H. Walkup of Martica, CA, David(Jody) I. Walkup of Indianapolis, IN, and Daniel(Theresa) H. Walkup of Lafayertte, IN; two brothers, Richard Walkup of Kentland, IN, and Calvin Walkup of Attica, IN; thirteen Grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Assoication.
Friends will be received 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25th, at the Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel, Lafayette, Indiana, and one hour prior the the services at the church on Wednesday.
Services will be held at Linwood Church of Christ, Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Jason Hite officiating.
Interment will follow in the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, with full military grave rites.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Assoication.

Bessie Marie Meece
February 20, 1943 - April 21, 2006
She leaves us with many memories of happy times and smiles
Bessie Marie Meece, 63, Monticello, died Friday, April 21, 2006 at 4:50 a.m. in her residence. Born February 20, 1943, in Cundiff, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Bill and Mary Lou Cape Helm. She was married to Benny W. Meece, who survives in Monticello. A homemaker, she enjoyed yard sales, sewing, cooking, gardening and yard work. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving with her husband are one son, Mark Fourthman of Monticello, IN; four daughters, Paula (Frank) Wederzak of Monticello, IN, Jackie (Kenny) Lesher of Reynolds, IN, Cindy (Jerry) Kestner of Monticello, IN, and Jenny DeMaggio of Monticello, IN; one stepson, Benny Meece, Jr. of Clearwater, FL; one step Daughter, Shelly Meece of Clearwater, FL; Brother, Robert (Sue) Helm of Princeton, IN; seven sisters, Barb Knight of Princeton, IN, Lillie (Ray) LaMar of Hazelton, IN, Kathy (Lester) Cross of Princeton, IN, Joan Biddle of Twelve Mile, IN, Judy (Bennie) Higdon of Peru, IN, Debbie (Ranall) Hall of Monticello, IN, Jamie (Earl) Sharp of Princeton, IN;, 17 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild. She was preceded in Death by one brother, Ernie Helm, and one sister, Regina Todd.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23 at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, downtown Monticello. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, in Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Chapel, with Celebrant Carla Barker officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Riverview cemetery, Monticello.

James L. Titus
January 18, 1946 - April 20, 2006
We salute his service in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and honor his memory
James L. Titus, 60 of Logansport, died Thursday, at 2:45 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2006 in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born January 18, 1946 in Continental, Ohio, the son of the late William R. Titus and the late Lucille Adams Titus. He was married in 1990, to Hazel Ann Jackson, who preceded him in death in 2002.
He served in the US Army while in Vietnam . He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. James was an avid Cubs fan and a Mopar Car enthusiast. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with children and grandchildren.
After 30+ years of employment, he retired in 2004 from Daimler Chrysler.
Surviving are one son, Matthew Titus of Kokomo, IN; two daughters, Sarah (Brad) Lee Alexander of Fishers, IN, and Corrie Lyn Titus of Kokomo, IN; three brothers, Kenny Titus of Galveston, IN, Richard (Mary) Titus of Logansport, IN, and Joseph (Dorothy) Titus of Logansport, IN; one sister, Linda (Richard) Whiteman of Avon, IN; 2 Grandsons, Jonathan D. Titus of Kokomo, IN, and Jalen L. Rhoades of Kokomo, IN; and one granddaughter, Hannah F. Alexander of Fishers, IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers, Donald, Robert and Billy and three sisters Helen, Dorothy and Carolyn.
Friends will be received 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 24 at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana. Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev Aaron Gross officiating. Burial will be with a Full Military service in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Hubert C. Wood

We salute his service as a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army
Hubert C. Wood, 88 years old of West Lafayette, IN, died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at 2:40 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born September 9, 1917 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Claude Wood and the late Lenora Marie Calhoun Wood.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lafayette. He served in the US Army during WWII as a radio operator. Serving in Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe, he received the following citations: American Defense Service Medal; American Theater Ribbons; EAME Theater Ribbon w/3 Bronze Stars; Good Coduct Ribbon; and World War II Victory Medal. He married Loretta May Schafer February 23, 1946, in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, Indiana. She preceded him in death July 5, 2003. He worked as a printer in the newspaper industry in Lafayette, Indianapolis, and Bakersfield, California.
Surviving are 3 Sons, Bruce Wood (wife: Pam) of New York City, NY, Carl Wood of Lakeland, FL, and Roy Wood (wife: Belle) of Lemon Grove, CA; and One Daughter, Mary Sopko (husband: Steve) of Orlando, Florida. He was preceded by a son, Gary, on March 20, 2006.
A funeral mass will be held at a later date. Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel, Lafayette, Indiana is entrusted with his care. Inurnment will at the Indiana Veterans' Home cemetery, West Lafayette.

Goldie Bernice Hickman Spogis

She had operated Bea's Lakeside Resort for many years
Goldie Bernice Hickman Spogis, 93, Monticello, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 3:25 p.m. in Twin Lakes Village Nursing Home
Born March 9, 1913, in Mount Ayre, IN, she was the daughter of Claude and Viola (Marlow) Hickman. In August of 1936, she married Earl R. Sweed Williams, who passed away April of 1943. On May 8, 1949, she married Donald E. Timmons, who passed away Dec. 25, 1964. On May 5, 1977, she married Frank S. Spogis, who preceded in death in May of 1999. Mrs. Spogis was a graduate of Mt. Ayre High School. She was a member ot the United Methodist Church at Rensselaer. She was a member of the Monticello Moose Lodge and the Royal Neighbors Lodge, Renselaer. She was a member of the Professional Business Women at Monticello, and also at Renselaer. She had lived in Monticello since 1958. She owned and operated Beas’s Lakeside Resort on Lake Shafer from 1958-1965. She had been a beauty instructor in Kokomo. She had been a beautician in Kokomo and Lafayette for over 25 years. She wintered in Texas for a number of years. Survivors: Son, Robert T. (Sue Ellen) Williams, Columbus, GA; 2 Daughters, Patricia Jones, Frankfot, IN; Bonnie Swaim, Monticello; Stepson, Frank (Joyce) Spogis, Jr., Monticello; 2 Step daughters, Barbara Backe, Calumet City, IN; Catherine (Matthew) Warren, Kalamazoo, MI.;Brother, Harlan Hickman, Idaville, IN; 8 Grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren ; 11 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in Death: By her Parents; 3 husbands; Infant daughter, Lois Marie Williams; and Brother, John R. Hickman.
Visitation: 1-3 PM, Saturday, April 22, in Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, downtown Monticello.

Jack Lowell Stuber
August 13, 1921 - June 11, 2006
His mission in life was to help others....and he fulfilled that mission...
Jack Lowell Stuber, 84, Logansport, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006, in Woodbridge Health Campus.
Born August 13, 1921, in Mexico, Indiana, he was the son of Elbridge L. and Beatrice I. Launer Stuber. He was married February 23, 1947, in Logansport, to Marjorie E. Smith, who preceded in death November 21, 1995.
During World War II, Jack served in the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army. In 1984, he retired from Logansport Community School Corporation, where he had served as superintendent of Building & Grounds for 23 years.
Jack was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church near Twelve Mile. He was also a member of Royal Center Masonic Lodge #585, the Fort Wayne Valley of Scottish Rite, and the Indiana Association of School Business Officials. He volunteered at the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and the Emmaus Mission Center.
Jack had only one mission in life, that was only to help others, and he fulfilled it.
Surviving are one son, James Stuber and his long-time companion, MaraLynn Petty, of Logansport; two brothers, Ray Stuber, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Lee Stuber, Denver; one sister, Carol Wilson, Muncie; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Teri White officiating.
Interment will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Cheryl Ann Downs
Cheryl Ann Downs, 61, of Gosport died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Bloomington Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1949 in Elwood, Indiana to Bernard L. Downs and Lucille (Raines) Downs. Cheryl was a member of the Ellettsville Church of Christ.
Cheryl is survived by her brothers, Joseph Downs and wife Betty of Spencer, and Dan Downs and wife Linda of Morriston, FL; sisters, Carolyn Albertson of Bloomington, Virginia Meyer and husband Roy of Tuscola, TX, Margaret Downs of Terre Haute, Susan Seigel and husband Robert of Edwardsburg, MI, and Judy Taylor and husband Clyde of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Ruth Downs; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends at Stonebelt.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Downs.
Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother John Isaac Edwards officiating. Burial is to follow at Chambersville cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Paul J. Kapes
February 11, 1911 - June 07, 2006
Our nation is in mourning...a Veteran died today...
Paul J. Kapes, 95, Monticello, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 10:45 p.m. in Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center, Monticello. Born February 11, 1911, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of John and Mary (Juhasz) Kapes.
He was married May 27, 1950, in Chicago, IL, to Mildred (Dust) Kapes, who preceded in death June 21, 2006.
Mr. Kapes was a truck driver for E.I. Dupont, East Chicago, from which he retired. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was also a member of the VFW post #81, Monticello. He enjoyed playing the banjo, and had played in a banjo band. He was a devoted husband to his wife, having been married over 56 years before her death last year.
Surviving are 2 Nieces, Margaret M. Rossiter of Downers Grove, IL, and Claudette E. Binkowski of Downers Grove, IL; 2 Great-Nieces, Cynthia M. Rossiter of Downers Grove, IL, and Cheryl M. (Thomas) Cavanaugh of Downers Grove, IL; a Great-Nephew, Kenneth J. (Diane) Rossiter of Plainfield, IL; and a Great Great Nephew, Robert J. Visher of Downers Grove, IL
Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM, Tuesday, June 13, 2006 in Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.
Services will be at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 11 a.m. with Father James Goodrum officiating.
Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home.

There's a special place in Heaven for the mother of six children
Elizabeth Miller, 84, of Burnettsville, died at 8:22 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006, in White County Memorial Hospital, Monticello. Born January 31, 1922, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Fred and Blanche Brooks Hershberger. On December 23, 1939, she was married to Donald (Dick) Miller, who preceded in death November 6, 1993. A homemaker, Mrs. Miller was a member of the Lockport Church. She was also a member of the Adams Township Extension Homemakers Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are two sons, Donald (Mick) R. Miller, Jr., Naples, Florida, and Michael Allen Miller, Atlanta, Georgia; four daughters, Marsha Lou Ridenour, Melbourne, Florida, Karen Sue Grandstaff, Royal Center, Elaine Brock, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Rhonda Kay Long, Burnettsville; one sister, Barbara Baer, Logansport; fifteen grandchildren, Tammy Lavy, Kimberly Flora, Tony Grandstaff, Tim Grandstaff, Kim Waddups, Joshua Long, Ryan Long, Sean Long, Tracy McLaughlin, Teresa Ridenour, Rick Miller, Steve Miller, Alice Miller, Jennifer Brock and Meredith Brock; and thirty great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport. Services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Nord Zootman officiating. Interment will follow in Davis cemetery, near Burnettsville.

Dr. Lucinda K. Collins Wright
January 13, 1948 - June 09, 2006
A life cut short....but she touched so many lives in her time on Earth
Dr. Lucinda K. (Collins) Wright, 58, Kokomo, passed away suddenly at home Friday, June 9, 2006. She was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Logansport, the daughter of Walter N. “Sparky” and Barbara Jean (Crockett) Collins. She was married to Kenneth R. Wright in Kokomo on May 21, 1970. He survives.
Lucinda was a 1966 graduate of Logansport High School and the Methodist Hospital School of Radiologic Technology. She also was a 1984 graduate of Indiana University, where she earned a B.S. in radiologic science. In 1987, in Davenport, Iowa, she received her Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, she also served in various capacities with the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Kokomo Rescue Mission and the United Way.
Dr. Wright was full of life and touched so many lives in her 58 years. She grew up with a wonderful work ethic which she passed on to several. She savored the time she spent with her grandsons, Joshua and Noah. Lucinda was a giving person in so many ways and she continued to give by being an organ donor.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of Kokomo; and her son, Michael, of Davenport, Iowa. Additional survivors include her sisters, Catherine Collins and Sharon Croussore of Logansport, and her grandsons, Joshua and Noah Wright of Davenport, Iowa; nephews Christopher Collins and his wife Shannon of Indianapolis; David Croussore and Albert Collins, both of Logansport and Gordon and Rodney Bauer of Indianapolis; nieces Jennifer Croussore, Megan Vernon and Sarah Wolfe of Logansport and Amy Bauer of Redding, Pa., and hundreds of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 3 p.m. June 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 2000 W. Jefferson St., Kokomo. (See map below)
