Wendell Neal Frey
June 29, 1922 - October 07, 2006
Our Nation is in Mourning...A Veteran Died Today...
Wendell Neal Frey, 84 of Logansport, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born June 29, 1922, in Miami County, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mildred Conn Frey. He was married November 20, 1947 to Geneva Avanell Cox, who preceded in death March 20, 1963. He was married February 5, 1966 to Marcella May (Hoch) Zeider in Logansport. She survives.
During WWII, serving as a gunner's mate in the U.S. Navy, he fought at Normandy and served in Liverpool, England and Casablanca, Africa. He was a member of the Ancient Order of the Deep and the Imperial Domain of the Golden Dragon - both orders were affiliated with his service in the Navy. He was the recipient of two bronze stars for service as an armed guard crewman on the LST-283 in the Euroupean-African-Middle-Eastern campaign.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Frey worked for the Cass County Highway Department for over 30 years. During the 1950's, he was the Cass County Home superintendent.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Sandra (husband Jerry) Maughmer of Logansport; two step-daughters, Pamela McCartney of Logansport, and Janice (husband Michael)Day of Logansport; one step-son, Terry (wife Shirley) Zeider of Logansport, IN; one brother, Kent (wife Becky) Frey of Kokomo, IN; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 9, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Captain Nathan Harns officiating. Burial will be in Cline cemetery, Royal Center.
Memorials may be made to the local Salvation Army or to the American Cancer Society.

Kermit McLeland
July 07, 1921 - October 13, 2006
Kermit McLeland, 85 of Royal Center, died at 8:59 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2006 in McKinney House, Logansport.
Born July 7, 1921 in White County, Indiana, he was the son ofJohn M. and Dorothy Jane Runkle McLeland.
A 1939 graduate of Royal Center High School, Kermit served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He received a diploma from Advanced Single Engine School at Foster Field in Texas. He served as a co-pilot on a B-24 in the European Theater. He received the Air Medal with one Oak leaf cluster and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal.
Following his service to our country, he was engaged in farming. He also worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of Burnettsville Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are one sister, Nelda Shaffer of Burnettsville, IN; three sisters-in-law, Mildred McLeland, Kokomo, Donna McLeland and Mary Ann McLeland, both of Royal Center; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde J. McLeland, John McLeland Jr., Kenneth McLeland, and Charles E. McLeland; and two sisters, Geraldine M.Crichfield and Mildred Deckard.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16th, in Davis cemetery with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in the Davis cemetery, near Burnettsville, Indiana.
Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, is in charge of arrangements.

Blanche Roller
September 22, 1923 - October 09, 2006
Blanche L. Roller, 83 of Royal Center, IN, died Monday, October 9, 2006 in Pulaski Health Care Center.
Born September 22, 1923 in Walton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Frank and Elva Parmeter Shaffer. She was married May 13, 1940, to the late Basil Roller May 13, 1940 in the Methodist Church.
She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Winamac, and the Cass County Democrat Women's Association, but her favorite time was spent sewing and being with her family. She also loved to cook for her family and friends. She was known throughout the community as as very good cook.
Surviving are Daughter, Dixie Finley of Buffalo; a Son, Frank Roller, Monticello; her son-in-law, Charles Schroeder, Royal Center; a Sister, Mary Dunning of South Bend, IN; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Roller and a daughter, Delores Schroder, three sisters and Norma Strahlem, Joella Medina and Betty Barnett.
Friends will be received 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 12 at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana. The FOE Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. during the visitation.
Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Friday, October 13, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Scott Ellison officiating.
Interment will follow in the Kistler cemetery, Royal Center, IN.
Contributions may be made to the Royal Center Fire Department.

Boyd Faris
October 08, 1924 - October 13, 2006
Boyd Delos Faris, 82 years old, of West Lafayette, IN, died Friday, October 13, 2006, in Home Hospital. He had been a resident of the Indiana Veterans Home since March of 2004.
He was born October 8, 1924 in Jasper County, Indiana, the son of the late George Ross Faris and the late Nancy Wood Faris. He attended Francesville Schools. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded with 3 Bronze Stars.
On April 6, 1947, he married Donna Pfledderer in Francesville, Indiana, and she survives.
He had worked for the Rensselaer Republican Newspaper for 18 years, and in 1965, he and his wife purchased The Early Inn Resort in Minnesota and they operated it for over 30 years.
Surviving with his wife, are one son, Alan Faris of Syracuse, Indiana; two daughters, Nancy Lee (husband: Garry) of Lafayette, and Janet Faris of Marshall, Minnesota; one brother, Gene Faris of Rensselaer, and four Grandchildren, Jennifer Faris and Ryan Lee of Indianapolis, Michael Lee of Lafayette and Eric Faris of Marshall, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel is entrusted with care and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Indiana Veterans Home.

Goldie Bowman
November 28, 1908 - October 13, 2006
Goldie Bowman, 97 of Logansport, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2006 in Chase Nursing Center.
Born November 28, 1908 in Logansport, Indiana, she was the daughter of Harry and Glennie York Golden. She was married on December 25, 1934, in Monticello, by Rev. Robert Ross to John L. Bowman, who preceded in death.
She was a member of New Life Alliance Church. She was also a member of the Adams Township Extension Homemakers Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She taught for many years in Carroll County and also in the Logansport Community School Corporation.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy Leach and her husband, Larry of Manchester, TN; five grandchildren, Brad Leach and his wife Rene of Lexington, Kentucky, Stuart Leach and his wife Darcy, of Mufreesboro, TN, Dan Leach of Vienna, Virginia, Byron Bowman-Smith of Bowling Green, KY, and Cynthia Bowman-Wymann and her husband Eric of Hereford, AZ; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Leach and Abigail Leach, both of Lexington, KY, Elizabeth Elliot Leach, Murfreesboro, KY, and Waytt Wymann and Coree Wymann, both of Hereford AZ; and one sister-in-law, Lois Bowman, Kokomo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Bowman; one brother, Floyd Golden and five sisters, Irene Jenkins, Nell Lytle, Bess Figley, Fern Zabst and Bertha Rynearson.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2006, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Fred Drye officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield IOOF cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the New Life Alliance Church.

Bertha Louise Vent
December 09, 1911 - October 10, 2006
In earlier years, she played the giant accordian in a musical band
Bertha Louise Vent, 94, Logansport, died at 11:56 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2006, in Chase Center.
Born December 9, 1911, in Logansport, she was the daughter of August and Edith Hildebrandt Adamsky. Her mother died when she was just eleven days old. Bertha Louise was raised by her grandmother, Mrs. Hildebrandt, until her father remarried when she was nine. She was formerly married to Dr. Vent, an optometrist and they lived in Michigan City for eight years.
A graduate of Kokomo High School, she had received an extensive musical education and had studied piano, pipe organ and even played a giant accordian in a band, playing in clubs in Chicago. She was a Christian Scientist.
Mrs. Vent had resided at Chase Center for many years and appreciated the love and support of the staff, residents and volunteers. Prior to living at Chase Center, she had resided at the Logansport State Hospital. If she could have expressed her appreciation, the words of Christ "Whatever you do to these my brethren, even the least of them, you have done unto Me" would have been appropriate to say to those who cared for her.
She is survived by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother.
Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Friday, October 13, 2006, in Fisher funeral chapel. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Celebrant Carla Barker officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Mental Health "Gift Lift" campaign or to the Logansport State Hospital Library or any project that brightens the life of patients residing in an extended care facility.

Louis Franklin Blum III
January 08, 1951 - October 08, 2006
He lived the American Dream...and lived life to the fullest
Louis Franklin Blum, III, 55, Monticello, died Sunday, October 8, 2006 at 6 p.m. in his residence.
Born January 8, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of Louis Franklin Blum Jr. and Minnie (Lemmink) Blum. His mother survives in Sun City, Arizona.
On August 16, 1975, in Farmington, Missouri, he was married to Nancy (Eaton) Blum, who survives.
He was a 1969 Graduate of Farmington High School in Farmington, Missouri. Mr. Blum earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida.
Mr. Blum was the owner and founder of Alloy Custom Products, Delphi, which he founded in 1993.
He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. He was a card-carrying Republican. An avid fisherman, he enjoying fresh and salt water fishing. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida. He was a devoted family man with a true entrepreneurial spirit.
Surviving with his wife and mother are one daughter, Carli J. Blum, at home; one son, Nick D. Blum, at home; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Diane Blume, Russellville, Kentucky; Sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Harry Pulliam of Wilber, Nebraska; Mother-in-law and Father-in-Law, Larry & Shirley Eaton of Farmington, Missouri; two sisters-in-law Kathy Kendall and her husband John, of St. Louis, Missouri and Sally Stiffelman and her husband Larry, of St. Louis, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, David Blum.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, downtown Monticello and one hour prior to services at the church.
Services will be held in Monticello United Methodist Church, on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian Beeks officiating.
Memorials may be made to Monticello United Methodist Church "Soup for the Soul." Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Ruth G. Berkshire
September 16, 1920 - January 21, 2006
Beloved mother and grandmother passes away
Ruth G. Berkshire, 85 of Logansport, died at 12:26 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006 in Woodbridge Health Campus.
She was born September 16, 1920 in Cass County, Indiana, the daughter of Carl and Chloe Woodling Bechdol. She was married August 13, 1941 to William F. Berkshire in Royal Center, IN. He preceded in death April 24, 1991.
Ruth enjoyed putting puzzles together and feeding all kinds of birds, especially hummingbirds.
She worked for 20 years at RBM in assembly.
Surviving are 4 Daughters, Judy Leslie of Indianapolis, Joyce (husband Roger) Leslie of Logansport, Phyllis Zeider of Logansport, and Marilyn (husband Bill) Grandstaff of Royal Center, IN; one son, Carl William Berkshire, Dallas, Texas; her step-mother-in-law, Beulah Berkshire, Burnettsville; One Brother, Ernest (wife Nannie Jo) Bechdol of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Berkshire, three sisters and one brother.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m.until the time of services, Tuesday, January 24 at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport.
Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Celebrant Carla Barker officiating.
Interment will follow in the Davis cemetery, .
Contributions may be made to the Americam Cancer Society.
