age 79, of Miller, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Methodist Hospital, Northlake Campus. Paul was a Miller resident since 1970 and formerly of West Virginia. He retired from CE Refactories and was a former coal miner in West Virginia.
He is survived by loving wife, Ruby, 10 children: Zilla (James) Guertein of Lake Station, Earl (Connie) Lucas of Miller, Leonard of Portage, Paul of Miller, Carl (Regina) Lucas of Portage, David of Hobart, Violet Lucas of Lake Station, Larry of Miller, Ronald, also of Miller and Kathleen (John) Lucas-Sholey of Lake Station, 3 sisters, Rosetta Bailey of Hobart, Geraldine & her husband Peter and Mary, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harold & James Lucas and 4 sisters: Omi Shanahan, Eula Lester, Audrey Kemp and Edna Wyselioff.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 5, 2008 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Pastor Rick Oliver officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Mausoleum in Valparaiso, Indiana. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 219-942-2109

VICTOR JOSEPH GOMEZ
age 57, of Lake Station, IN passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, IN. Victor was born on April 7, 1951 in East Chicago, IN. He is preceded in death by daughter, Veronica Gomez; wife, Karen Gomez, fraternal grandparents, Victoriano and Rita Gomez-Torres; maternal grandparents Arturo and Maria Vasquez; aunts Maria "Tia Toni" Diaz and Dolores Vela; cousin Lorraine Garza, and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by loving sons, Michael Gomez of Cocoa Beach, FL; Phillip (Leslee) Gomez of Chesterton, IN; and Gregory Gomez of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Carly, Elizabeth, Matthew, Brandon, and Tobhais; parents, Carmelo and Rosa Gomez of Portage, IN; brothers, Albert (Terry) Gomez of Portage, IN; George (Karen) Gomez of Valparaiso, IN; Carmelo (Joy) Gomez Jr. of Westville, IN; sisters, Adeline (Carlos Jr.) Escabalzeta, Rose (Arnold) Alaniz, and Lydia (Francisco) Ayala of Portage, IN and Theresa (Nestor) Singh of Porter, IN; former wife, Mary Desser; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Victor was employed by Resorts Casino in East Chicago, IN for eleven years where he shared many friendships. He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and co-workers who had the blessing to be a part of his life. "Other things may change us, but we start and end with family".
A visitation for Victor Gomez will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A second visitation for Mr. Gomez will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Rees Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage. Burial will be held at Calvary cemetery. ANN NICOLETTO
age 92, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008. She was born on January 7, 1916 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Daniel and Susana (Mihacea) Greavu. She was married on November 17, 1934 to Anthony Nicoletto who preceeded her in 1959. Ann was a life long member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School for over 20 years. Ann loved gardening and will be remembered as a mother and grandmother of great faith and spirituality. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony, parents Daniel and Susana (Mihacea) Greavu, her sister Mary McCalla, brother Nick Greavu, and daughter-in-laws Shirley and Meredith Nicoletto,grandson-in-law Bruce Madvig, and great granddaughter Hannah Madvig.
Ann is survived by her loving family; 3 sons, Daniel (Gayle) Nicoletto, Valparaiso, Marvin Nicoletto, Medford, OR, and Anthony (Nancy) Nicoletto, Valparaiso, grandchildren; Darlene (Donald) Ostrom, Lori Lavery, Sally (William) Charlson, Heather, Susana, Derek, Ryan and Daniel Nicoletto, 5 great grandchildren and other loving family and dear friends.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 8th, 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. Friends may visit on Wednesday, May 7th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery. Memorials in Ann’s memory may be given to the V.N.A. WENDELL HODGES
age 81, of Lake Station, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 at home. Wendell was a lifelong Lake Station resident and WW II Navy Veteran who was an Iwo Jima survivor. He was a retired Ironworker affiliated with Local #395. Wendy served as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman from 1951 to 2007, was a three-time Democratic City Chairman and one term Councilman. He ran a successful primary race for Mayor of Lake Station but was narrowly defeated in the general election. Wendell was a life member of American Legion Post #100 and VFW Post #9323. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #760 F. & A.M. holding all degree levels and was a past member of the Michigan City Shriners. Wendell was a fisherman, hunter, private pilot, diver and avid archer since 1948.
He is survived by 3 grandchildren: Troy (Jamie) Flick, Heidi (John) Veeck and Gretchen Wilson, 10 great grandchildren: Samantha, Abigail, Faith, August, Steven, Jacob, Wendy, Riley, Logan and Lukis, 2 brothers, Jesse (Joyce) Hodges and Dale (Linda) Hodges. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, son, Rocky, daughter, Wendy and 4 brothers, Charles, Mush, Pete and Harold Hodges.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 4, 2008 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Avenue, Lake Station with Rev. Bill Barrow officiating. Cremation preceded the memorial service. Memorial visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 PM with a Legion service at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday prior to the service at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 219-962-1606

RICHARD DEAN GRAEBER
age 68, of Portage passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2008. He was born on March 27, 1940 in New York State the son of Glenn and Elsie Graeber. Rich was married to Patricia Sims on October 21, 2000. Dick retired in 1992 as a Master Trooper with the Indiana State Police at the Lowell, Indiana Post. Rich was also an independent trucker as an owner-operator with RD Graeber, Inc. who were dispatched by Barr-Nunn Trucking Company. Rich loved gardening, being outdoors, carpentry, collecting antiques, and listening to his music. Rich was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Rich is survived by his loving family; wife Patricia Graeber, Portage, children Richard (Leslie) Graeber, Portage, Jonathan Graeber, New Carlisle, Kenny Trujillo, Portage, Julie (David) Czysczon, Munster, Mike Trujillo, Portage, Christopher (Lynn) Eckert, Valparaiso, and Deena Djokic, Valparaiso, four grandchildren, brother Jim (Kathy) Graeber, Indianapolis, and Mike Graeber, North Carolina, sisters Annie Fain, Arizona, and Kiki (Steve) Young, Arizona, close friend Al Udvare, best friend Kenneth Trujillo, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lee Graeber, and his sister Jeanne Belange.
A visitation for Richard Graeber will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will follow immediately on Tuesday at 7:00 pm with Pastor Mark Hostetler, officiating. HECTOR SERRANO, age 49, of Lake Station, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 31, 2008. Hector was a Lake Station resident for the past 5 years and a former longtime resident of the Bridgeport & Pilsen areas of Chicago, Illinois. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and formerly employed at Stewart’s Clothing Store. Hector was a sketch artist and proud member of the Twelve Step House in Gary. He was an avid sports fan, including the Chicago Bears, Bulls and Sox. Hector loved nature and was a loving son and companion.
Hector is survived by his mother, Elvira Serrano of Lake Station, father, Antonio Serrano, Sr., 8 brothers & sisters: Fernando (Leticia) Serrano, Rosalie Serrano, C.P.D., Maria Vasquez, all of Chicago, IL, Elvira (Terry) Caldwell of Oak Lawn, IL, Antonio Serrano, Jr. of Chicago, Aurora (Mark) Bejma of Romeoville, IL, Josephine (Garrett) Beauregard of Phoenix, AZ, beloved by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers contributions may be to the Twelve Step House in Gary or the Fifth Street Club in Wheeler.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 5, 2008 beginning with 9:15 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage and then proceeding to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am with Rev. JENNY BLACK
Jenny Black, age 47, a resident of Lake Station, passed away on Monday, June 02, 2008. She was born on November 29, 1960 in Waynesville, Missouri the daughter of James and Florence Hoskins. Jenny was married to Scott Black on August 10, 2001. Jenny worked as a bartender for Kimmie’s Bar and other bars in the area for over 25 years. Jenny was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed being with her family and friends.
Jenny is survived by her husband Scott Black, Sr., Lake Station, son Chad (Kristin) Stratton, Michigan City, daughter Briggs (Bryan) Tinsley, Lake Station, son Scott (Jasmine) Black, Jr., Joliet, son Brian (Nicole) Black, Chicago, grandchildren Jenna, Skyler, Lily, Jason, Janaro, Jada, Alyssa, Brian, and Crystal, mother Florence Kirk, Portage, father James (Beverly) Hoskins, Lake Station, sister Carrie (Charles) Jurgens, North Pole, Alaska, and other loving family and dear friends.
A memorial service for Jenny Black will be held from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Hobart Eagles, 20 West 37th Avenue, Hobart. Cremation previously occurred. Clara Louise Gearhart (nee Harrell)
age 83 of Crown Point, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008. She was born on September 15, 1925 to the late Everett and Mary Harrell. Clara was formerly of Hebron and Hobart Township and was a member of the Hobart Christian Assembly Church and the Hobart Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed running her family around to sporting events and was known for her delicious beef and noodles.
She is survived by 3 children, Richard E. (Connie) Gearhart of St. John, IN; James H. Gearhart Sr. of Hebron, IN; Cheryl L. (Richard) Muscara of Chesterton, IN; 2 brothers, Everett “Bud” (Mary) Harrell of Merrillville, IN; Edward “Edgie” Harrell of Lake Station, IN; 5 sisters, Lucille (Eugene) Pressler, Caroline A. Barton, Wanda Richardson, all of Sparta, IL; Marybelle Randall of Milwaukee, WI; Marjorie Faye Harrell of Lake Station, IN; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Gearhart, Sr., 1 sister, Paula Jean (Ken) Monnier and 1 grandson, Adam R. Gearhart.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are preferred to St Anthony Hospice.

RHODA M. FIFIELD “ROCKIN RHODA”
age 90 of Hobart passed away Tuesday September 23, 2008 . Rhoda has been a lifelong resident of Hobart and was a retired operator for General Telephone. She was a Girl Scout day camp director for two decades. She was a member of and a secretary for Sigma Alpha Gamma. Rhoda had been a greeter at Rees Funeral Home since 1989 until her health failed. She was a member of Hobart First Baptist Church. Rhoda always had a cheerful smile really enjoyed a good laugh and being with her family and friends.
Rhoda is survived by her daughter Diane R.(James) Taylor, Granddaughter Stephanie (Floyd) Worline of Wanatah IN, Great grandchild Brittany Woline.
Rhoda was preceded in death by husband Darrell, daughter Darrelyn Hanna, parents Dwight and Ruth Mackey and brother David Mackey.
Memorial contributions are preferred to VNA Hospice of Porter County or Hobart First Baptist Church.
Funeral service for Rhoda will be Monday, September 29, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Rd, Hobart with Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill cemetery, Hobart. Visitation will be on Sunday September 28, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m..

LONNIE PARKS
LONNIE PARKS, age 47, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2008 at Porter Hospital, Valparaiso Campus. Lonnie was a lifelong Portage resident and employed as a safety director at Roger & Sons Construction. He was a member of Local #81 Laborers Union and avid car enthusiast who loved to fabricate & build things with wood. Lonnie was very much loved by his family and friends. He was an affectionate person who touched the lives of his family & friends.
He is survived by his son, Michael Jason Parks of Portage, grandson, Mason Parks, Mother, Genoa Smith of Portage, Father, Manuel Parks of Van Cleve, Kentucky, brother, Charles (Rosemary) Parks of Westville, IN, many loving nieces, nephews & cousins. His brother, Michael Parks, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers donations to the family would be appreciated.
Funeral service will be Monday, September 29, 2008 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, with Pastor Jerry Martin officiating.
