Kathryn M. Gumm, age 87, of 2827 Northgate Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46835 died at 7:38 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2003 at the Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on April 30, 1916 to David and Catherine (Klotz) Lamle.

She was reared and lived in Lake Twp., Allen County, IN where she attended the Arcola Schools. She then moved to Jefferson Twp., Whitley County, IN on SR 14. In 1947 she moved into Columbia City. In 1968 she moved to Tri Lakes while spending her winters in Florida. In 1983 she moved to Fort Wayne, IN and spent her remaining years in Fort Wayne. She was a homemaker and a member of Harvester Avenue Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN.

She first married Charles Nicholas Felger on December 15, 1935 at the David Lamle home in Lake Twp., Allen County. Mr. Felger passed away on September 5, 1946 as a result of an accidental drowning. On July 9, 1949 she was married to Thurman Paul Gumm at the Grace Lutheran Church Parsonage in Columbia City, IN. Mr. Gumm passed away on April 29, 1983.

She is survived by 3 sons, Donald E. (Bev) Felger of Fort Wayne, IN; Thomas E. (Bonnie) Felger of Fort Wayne, IN and Ned (Rubyann) Felger of Leo, IN; 1 daughter, Mrs. Jim (Joan) Binkley of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 step daughter-in-law, Martha Gumm of Crothersville, IN and 1 step daughter, J.B. (Bonnie) Riley of Litchfield, KY; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and 1 brother, Eugene "Ike" Lamle of Churubusco, IN.

She in preceded in death by her parents and her 2 husbands, 1 son, Glenn A. Fleger, on April 29, 1960, 1 step son, Paul Gumm and several sisters and brothers.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2003 and after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2003 both at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the funeral home with 2 grandsons officiating, Pastor David Binkley of the Harvester Avenue Missionary Church and Pastor Dan Binkley of North Manchester, IN. Burial will be at the Eel River cemetery, rural Churubusco, IN. Memorial donations may be given in Mrs. Gumm's memory to Harvester Avenue Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Elsie May Buckles-Campbell, age 79, of 2048 Lone Pine Road, Union Township, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN.

She was born on February 3, 1924 in Bryant, Jay County, IN to Dorsey "Glen" and Stella (Glendening) Shirk. She attended Portland High School for 10 years. She moved to Fort Wayne, IN and in 1968 she moved to Big Lake, rural Columbia City, IN and in 2001 she began residing with her daughter in Union Township. She worked at both the Clark's Restaurant and Power's Hamburgers, Fort Wayne, IN.

She married Garl Campbell in 1961 at the Lake Chapel United Methodist Church, Lake Everett, IN. She was a member of the VFW #857, Fort Wayne, IN since 1947 and attended St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Columbia City, IN.

She is survived by 3 sons, Jerry Charles (Shelia) Buckles of Fort Wayne, IN, John George (Loretta) Buckles, Fort Wayne, IN and David Lawrence Buckles-Campbell, Fort Wayne, IN; 2 daughters, Sharon Lynn Kimmel of Columbia City, IN and Sandra Kay (Doug) Johnson of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 step daughter, Mary (Scottie) Leavitt of St. Joe, IN; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Wanda Bellis-Wilcox of Fort Wayne, IN. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garl Campbell and one grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 9-11a.m. and 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Conelley of the St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Columbia City and Pastor Patty Crisp of the CHARIS House, Fort Wayne, IN. Burial will be at the Gravel Hill cemetery, Bryant, IN at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003. Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Buckles-Campbell memory to the V.F. W. Children's Home in Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Ava Mae Kumfer, age 86, of 307 North Elm Street, Columbia City, IN died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003 at the Saint Anne Home & Retirement Community, 1900 Randallia Drive, Fort Wayne, IN where she had resided since February 18, 2003 when her health began to fail.

She was born on May 29, 1917 to Ora Day and Ruth Hazel (Teachout) Bellard in Calhoun County, Michigan. A native of Coldwater, MI, she was educated in the Michigan schools. From 1937-1938, she attended Betty Jean's Beauty College, Fort Wayne, IN where she also was employed for 2 years. Moving to Fort Wayne in the 1930's, she then moved to Columbia City, IN in December, 1983. She married Elmer E. Kumfer on March 30, 1940 at St. Patricks, Fort Wayne. A housewife and homemaker during her adult lifetime, she was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. She loved to work with her hands, doing knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by 2 sons, Earl T. (Nancy) Kumfer and Edward E. Kumfer both of Fort Wayne, IN; 2 daughters, Rita M. Sonsel of Huntsville, TX and Alice A. Goldwood of Columbia City; 10 grand- children and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer E. Kumfer who died on September 9, 1998, a brother, Max Bellard and a sister, Marie Alred.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2003 with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 with 1 hour of calling prior to the service at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, with Father Larry Kramer officiating. Juanita J. Jackson, age 62, of 5251 W 450 S, Albion, IN 46701, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born in Whitley County, IN on September 19, 1940 to Homer C. Sr., and Mable M. (Brown) Hursey.

She attended Thorncreek school in Whitley County and later in life earned her G.E.D. She married James R. Jackson, Sr. on February 5, 1962 in Columbia City by Reverend Graham Kleespie. A housewife and homemaker, she has spent her lifetime in the Whitley County area and she has been a resident of Big Lake area since her marriage.

Survivors include her husband, James R. Jackson, Sr. of Albion, IN; a son, Bazil C. Jackson of Albion; step-children, Richard S. Jackson of Arkansas, Debra S. Jackson of Columbia City, and James R. Jackson, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jim (Ida Mae) Staples of Columbia City and Homer (Carol) Junior Hursey of Columbia City; and a sister, Mildred Harrison of Albion, IN.

Preceding her in death were her parents, 4 sons, Gerald Dean Egner, Lincoln Bacal Jackson, Hank Richard Jackson, and Matthew Mark Jackson, a daughter, Nita Dawn Hursey, a brother, Frank Nicholson and a sister, Sharon Harrison.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Michael Ora Kurtz, age 61, of 7896 North Brown Road, Columbia City, IN died suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2003 at 8:00 a.m. at his Loon Lake residence. He was born on June 9, 1942 in Arcola, IN to Ora Ralph and Catherine Ann (Sinnigen) Kurtz.

He graduated from Arcola High School, Arcola, IN with the Class of 1960. He then received a 4 year basketball full scholarship at Tulane University where he graduated and then received his teaching degree from Goshen College, Goshen, IN. He was reared in Arcola, IN and after his college graduations he lived in Goshen, IN and taught history and coached basketball at Goshen High School. He then purchased a tri-state Harvestore franchise (blue grain storage units) serving Ohio, Michigan and Indiana farmers for many years. Any grain bin storage unit with a United States flag on the silo was designed and erected by his company. After his retirement, he was a salesman for Thomson's Whitley County Motor Sales, Columbia City, IN.

He spent his lifetime in several locations including, Arcola, Goshen, Belvidere and Hagerstown, IN, Lake Somerset, IL, Washington Court House, OH, Carmel, IN, Virginia Beach, VA and for the past 12 years, at his lake home on Loon Lake. Mike was an avid golfer.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Michele L. Kurtz and son-in-law, Scott Sidney Greenberger, Boston, MA and Heather L. and son-in-law, J. Andrew Davis, Indianapolis, IN; his mother, Catherine Ann Kurtz, Detroit, MI; 3 sisters, Nancy Stephan, Indianapolis, IN, Linda (Phil) Schubert, Fort Wayne, IN and Kim (Nick) Kurtz-Seslar, Detroit, MI; 3 grandchildren, Drew Michael and Hannah Nicole Davis, Indianapolis, IN and Sydney Miriam Greenberger, Boston, MA. He is preceded in death by his father, Ora Ralph Kurtz, who died in 2001.

Visitation will be held from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Setpember 10, 2003 with Pastor Ralph Esterhaus of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Lake Township-ELCA, Fort Wayne, IN officiating. Burial will be at the Covington Memorial cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mr. Kurtz to St. John's Lutheran Church of Lake Township-ELCA. Aretha Mildred Good, age 89, formerly of 904 Blue River Drive, Apt. 20, and currently of Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 7:25 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2003 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN.

She was born on May 4, 1914 to George A. and Alta V. (Parker) Beigh in Claypool, Kosciusko County, IN. She grew up on a farm southeast of Claypool, IN and graduated from Claypool High School with the Class of 1933. She married Gilbert W. Good on April 12, 1936 in Akron, Indiana. After her marriage she and her family lived in and around the Culver, Leiters Ford and Plymouth, IN areas. Since 1979 she has lived in Columbia City, IN. She was a homemaker all of her adult lifetime. She was member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Plymouth, IN.

She is survived by 1 son, Dale E. (Marynelle Powers) Good of Columbia City, IN; 2 grandaughters including Mrs. Scott (Gayle Diane) Reed, Columbia City, IN and Mrs. John (Faye Anne) Nemore, Homer, MI; 6 great grandchildren including Shanna, Jared and Paul Maggard and Connor, Keaton and Carson Reed and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, George A. and Alta V. Beigh; her husband, Gilbert W. Good who died on September 10, 1972; 1 infant daughter, Lois Pauline Good; 2 brothers, Royal D. and Donald A. Beigh; 1 great granddaughter, Trista D. Maggard.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the funeral services which will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, both at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with Pastor Robert Siegrist of the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church officiating. Committal services and burial will be at the Graceland cemetery, Claypool, IN at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003. Memorial donations may be given in Mrs. Good's memory to either the Trinity United Methodist Church, Plymouth, IN or the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church, Columbia City, IN. Dale Eugene Huntley, age 49, of 595 Golden Avenue, Columbia City, IN died in his sleep early Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Columbia City, IN on April 6, 1954 to Cecil H. Huntley, Jr. and B. Joan (Hursey) Huntley.

He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1973. He has spent his lifetime in Columbia City except for 4 years in Michigan. He was a former employee of Smitty's Electric, former owner of Huntley Electric and he currently was employed as an electrician for Whetstone Electric, Columbia City.

He is survived by his children, Adam M. Huntley, Angelia N. Huntley, Scott M. Huntley, and Brant W. Huntley all of Columbia City; his mother, B. Joan Huntley of Columbia City; 1 brother, Tom Huntley of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sisters, Mrs. Nancy (Jim) Mooney of Rochester, IN and Mrs. Vickie (George) Born of Montpelier, IN; his fiance, Julie A. Garrow of Columbia City; 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Cecil H. Huntley, Jr., who died on October 1, 2000, twin children, Bryan E. and Kristia R. Huntley who died August 7, 1977, and all his grandparents.

Patricia Ann Shaver, age 59, of 314 South Line Street, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She had been in failing health since September 2002.

She was born on September 19, 1943 in Chicago, Cook County, IL to Herbert R. and Marie R. (Haws) Busse. She graduated from Highland Park High School, Highland Park, IL with the Class of 1961. She then attended and graduated from beauty college in Illinois after high school.

She was reared in the Chicago, IL area and then lived at Ft. Bliss, TX and Hawaii for 3 years while her husband was in the military moving to Fort Wayne, IN for 2 1/2 years before moving to Columbia City, IN and living here for the past 33 years.

She married Raymond Howard Shaver on February 23, 1963 in Deerfield, IL. She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and served as the church sacristan and also an eucharistic minister for 17 years. She was a former employee of the Christian Resource Center, Columbia City, IN.

She is survived by her husband Raymond Howard Shaver, Columbia City, IN; 1 sister, Jeanette Eames, Zion, IL and 3 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2003 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. The rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2003 at the funeral home by Deacon Joseph Zickgraf. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN on Saturday, September 6, 2003 with Father Sextus Don officiating. She was born on December 30, 1931 in Vandergrift, PA to Anthony Vodzak and Mary Vida she was raised in North Vandergrift, PA moving to Columbia City, IN in 1963. She attended Vandergrift Heights High School for 10 years. She married John Paunovich on May 3, 1952 in Vandergrift, PA. She was a homemaker, enjoyed flowers, gardening, bowling and her family.

She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN and was a 2nd grade teacher and 1st communion teacher at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church for 15 years. She also was on a Columbia City bowling league for many years.

She is survived by 4 daughters, Cynthia (Fred) Sharkey of Etna Green, IN; Lois (Robert) Ogden of Columbia City, IN; Patricia Trumbull of Columbia City, IN and Stacey Paunovich of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 son Kevin (Kim) Paunovich, Columbia City, IN; 2 brothers, Anthony (Julia) Vodzak of North Apollo, PA and Louis (Betty) Vodzak of Lafayette, CA; 1 sister, Eleanor (Raymond) Steffanina, Leechburg, PA; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John who passed away on June 27, 2003, 1 brother, Cyril Vodzak and 1 sister Ana Mae Chruscik.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 with Father Lawrence Kramer officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic cemetery, Columbia City, IN.
