Leolaruth "Leola" M. Purk, 77, of Fort Wayne, a retired manager, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Fort Wayne. The Oxford, Neb., native retired in 1986 from G.C. Murphy's after 30 years of service and had worked for Richard's Restaurant in New Haven as a cashier. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven. Surviving are sons Raymond and Larry, both of Fort Wayne; daughters Charlotte Sarrazine of New Haven and Lynda Spieth of Monroeville; brothers Martin Heller of Avilla and Robert Heller of Pleasant Lake; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Kenneth R., preceded her in death. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 800 Green St., New Haven, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 E., New Haven. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Memorials are to Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice or the church.

Ruth C. Remenschneider
Fort Wayne - 1916-2002

Ruth C. Remenschneider, 86, of Fort Wayne, a member of Christ Lutheran Women's Group, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Golden Years Homestead.

The Fort Wayne native was a homemaker. Surviving are daughters Sharon Gerig of New Haven, Sandra Beerbower of Harlan and Sue Litzenberger of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; sisters Irene Dinkel and Evelyn Shoaff, both of Fort Wayne; a brother, Raymond Geiger of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Louis, preceded her in death. Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, 4402 Park St., Woodburn, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 E., New Haven. Burial will be at church cemetery. Memorials are to the church or Fort Wayne Alzheimer's.

Daniel W. Schuricht
Fort Wayne

Daniel W. Schuricht, 57, of Fort Wayne, a police officer from 1970 to 1994, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at home. "Daniel enjoyed fishing and Civil War history."

The Fort Wayne native was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans Association and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Surviving are sons Jason, Andrew and Dave, all of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Amy Schuricht of Raleigh, N.C.; and one grandchild. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave., with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Graveside services will be at a later date. Memorials are to the family.

Don A. Bauserman
New Haven - 1927-2003

Don A. Bauserman, 76, of New Haven, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at home.

The New Haven native retired in 1991 from Dana Corp. after 43 years of service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and American Legion Post 330. Surviving are his wife, Joan; sons Ron A. and Mark A., both of New Haven; daughters Carol A. Witte and Lori L. Allen, both of Fort Wayne, and Janie M. Hoover of New Haven; a sister, Joyce Marcher of Angola; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven, with calling a half-hour before services. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with an 8 p.m. vigil service and a 7:30 p.m. American Legion service at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 E., New Haven. Burial with military graveside services will be at IOOF cemetery, New Haven. Memorials are to Masses or the church Building Fund.

W. John Frank Jr.
Fort Wayne

W. John "John" Frank Jr., 66, of Fort Wayne, retired owner/operator of Professional Asset Management, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at home.

"John enjoyed fishing, canoeing and snow skiing." The Columbia City native retired in 2002 and was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Linda L.; sons Matthew S. of Bloomington and Martin J. of Fort Wayne; his mother, Lucille Frank of Fort Wayne; a brother, Marcus L. of Toledo, Ohio; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Montgomery G., and a brother. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at St. Louis Besancon cemetery, New Haven. Memorials are to Parkview Home Health Care & Hospice or donor's choice.

Rhonda Phoenix-Johnson
Fort Wayne - 1956-2003

Rhonda Phoenix-Johnson, 46, of Fort Wayne, a homemaker, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at home.

The Bowling Green, Ky., native was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and had a degree in criminal justice from Glassboro State College in New Jersey. Surviving are a daughter, Kenya Johnson of Fort Wayne; a stepson, Quassim of Jersey City, N.J.; her mother, Gladys Phoenix of Fort Wayne; her father, Marvin Phoenix of Jersey City, N.J.; sisters Valerie Phoenix of Fort Wayne and Andrea Phoenix-Bryant of Lathonia, Ga.; and brothers Stephen Phoenix of South Carolina and Gregory Phoenix of Jersey City, N.J. Her husband, Timothy, preceded her in death. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 3506 Winter St., with calling from 11 a.m. until services. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery.

Virginia Snider
Fort Wayne - 1906-2003

Virginia Snider, 96, of Fort Wayne died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Community Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio.

"She was loved and cherished for her gentle spirit and positive countenance." The Wells County native had worked for General Electric Co. for 10 years, for Marshall Fields Co. for four years, and was a homemaker. She was a 1932 graduate of Central High School. Surviving are sons Phil of Hicksville, Ohio, Dr. Neil of Evanston, Ill., and John of Grays Lake, Ill.; a sister, Kathryn Wollenhaupt of Kettering, Ohio; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, two brothers and two sisters. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour before services and also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials are to Hickory Creek Nursing Home Activity Fund or Broadway Christian Church.

Marcella R. Foreman, 83, of Fort Wayne, a teacher's aide, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at home.

The Fort Wayne native worked for Croninger School for 11 years and for General Electric Co. and Magnavox Co. She was a 1938 graduate of South Side High School. Surviving are a son, John of Fort Wayne; daughters Janice M. Wilson of Pueblo West, Colo., Julie A. Shalley of Namibia, Africa, and Jo C. Kelsey of Aurora, Ill.; a sister, Corrine E. Martin of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel, and a sister. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens. Carl E. Savage, 67, of Fort Wayne, a retired construction worker, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System.

The Bowling Green, Ky., native had served in the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Corrine; sons Carl and Will, both of Fort Wayne; a stepson, Joseph Surry of Fort Wayne; daughters Ruth Moore and Remma Newsome, both of Fort Wayne; and stepdaughters Akenya and Gemmel Surry, both of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by a sister. Services are noon Friday at Carmichael Funeral Service, 831 E. Jefferson Blvd., with calling one hour before services. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery.

Michael L. Bialik, 84, of Fort Wayne, a retired purchasing agent, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Regency Place.

The Buffalo, N.Y., native retired in 1981 from Ford Motor Co. in Lorian, Ohio, after 37 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Bertha; a daughter, Donna Bialik of Fort Wayne; sons Raymond M. of Calabash, N.C., and Michael L. of Harker Heights, Texas; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials are to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Eunice M. Burnett

Eunice M. Burnett, 69, of Fort Wayne, a member of American Legion Post 148 Auxiliary, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital.

"Her hobbies included her love of crochet, traveling, the fellowship of the ladies of American Legion Auxiliary and of the trips back home to Flint." The Flint, Mich., native was retired from Mattel Corp. and had worked for several years. Surviving are daughters Nola Sanders and Sherry Chattman, both of Fort Wayne; sons Lamar Prosser and Kevin Penegar, both of Flint, Mich., and Marlon Chattman of Ohio; sisters Zeffrie Adams and Zernie Bacon, both of Flint, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, two sisters and three brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1151 Francis St. Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. American Legion Auxiliary service at Ellis Funeral Home, 1021 E. Lewis St. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Maggie Henderson White
Fort Wayne

Maggie Henderson White, 85, of Fort Wayne, a member of True Love Missionary Baptist Church, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare.

The Natchez, Miss., native had worked for Lutheran Hospital for several years and served on her church's Missionary Society. She came here in 1963. Surviving are sons Harry and Rev. Willie J., both of Fort Wayne; a sister, Camille Scott of Chicago; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Willie L., preceded her in death. Services are noon Friday at Kingdom Door Christian Worship Center, 1004 E. Pontiac St., with calling one hour before services. Burial will be at Concordia cemetery, South Anthony Boulevard and Maumee Avenue.

Mary E. McClellan, 99, of Noble Township, Noble County, a member of Merriam Christian Chapel Church, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City.

The Huntington County native was a homemaker. Surviving are daughters Bonetha Rider of New Paris, Shelvya Bauer of Leo-Cedarville and Doris Carson of Wolf Lake; eight grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur G., a son, Marion L., two brothers and a sister. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Merriam Christian Chapel Church, Merriam, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be at Christian Chapel cemetery, Merriam. Memorials are to the church Missionary Fund.
