Ruth "Jean" Brechbill, 82, of Auburn, a member of the DeKalb County Extension Homemakers, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at home.

The Carmel native was a homemaker and Auburn resident for 56 years. Surviving are a son, Phil of Auburn; a brother, Phil Hinshaw of Carmel; grandchildren Beth Bechdol, Sarah Brechbill, Jennifer Greathouse and Zachary and Jacob Spence; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, and a daughter, Cynthia J. Spence. There are no services or calling. Memorials are to the American Diabetes Association, DeKalb 4-H Council or DeKalb County Community Foundation.

Alice Goldine Magley Bultemeier
Decatur - 1919-2002

Alice Goldine Magley Bultemeier, 83, of Decatur, a member of American Legion Post 43 Auxiliary, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Woodcrest Nursing Center. The Wren, Ohio, native was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, Erwin F.; sons David C. Magley of Ossian and Timothy A. Magley of Decatur; a stepson, Michael G. of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin P. Magley, a sister and a brother. Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, with calling from 11 a.m. until services and also from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Decatur cemetery. Memorials are to the church.

John F. Pinkerton
Montpelier - 1928-2002

John F. Pinkerton, 74, of Montpelier, a member of Dillman United Church of the Brethren in Warren, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton.

The Danville native retired in 1993 from Cablec in Marion and was a Wells County farmer. He was a member of American Legion Post 368 in Van Buren and had served in the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife, Gladys; daughters Cindy Pless of Wexford, Pa., Nancy Glover of Roanoke and Vicki Loehr of Churubusco; a son, Gary of Montpelier; a brother, Noble of Mount Etna; a sister, Janet McCutcheon of Huntington; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, Warren, with calling from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Mount Etna cemetery, Huntington. Memorials are to the church.

Helen Leone Mellott
Warsaw - 1912-2002

Helen Leone Mellott, 90, of Warsaw, a former clerk, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Cambridge House. The Warsaw native had worked for the Warsaw Sewage Department and Warsaw License Bureau. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a lifelong Kosciusko County resident. Surviving are a son, Larry of Warsaw; a brother, Gerald Firestone of Warsaw; nephews John Firestone of Warsaw and Robert Firestone of Silver; and nieces Susie Wiggins and Karen Bradt, both of Warsaw. Her husband, DeWitt, preceded her in death. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with calling from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Warsaw. Memorials are to the church.

Rebecca J. Machamer
Fremont - 1958-2002

Rebecca J. Machamer, 44, of Fremont died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Northern Lakes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Angola.

The Warsaw native was a member of Women of the Moose. Surviving are her mother, Velma Machamer of Fremont; a sister, Carrie Rager of Warsaw; brothers Pat Machamer of Winamac and Michael Turner of Denver; one nephew; and seven nieces. Her father, Harold Machamer, preceded her in death. There are no services or calling. Memorials are to the donor's choice.

Norman D. Neiswander
Convoy, Ohio - 1910-2002

Norman D. Neiswander, 92, of Convoy, Ohio, a former adviser of Pioneer 4-H Club, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at home.

The Bluffton native was a lifelong farmer, member of Sugar Ridge Church of God and 50-year member of Van Wert Masonic Lodge. Surviving are sons H. Richard of Richmond, Va., and Ronald W. of Convoy; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva M.; three brothers and two sisters. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home, Convoy, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Convoy IOOF cemetery. Memorials are to Mission Aviation Fellowship or the church.

Wallace "Buddy" Coburn, 66, of Warsaw and formerly of Bull Creek, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Kosciusko Community Hospital.

The Lenore, W.Va., native was affiliated with Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Pauline of Pikeville, Ky.; daughters Mary Tackett of Tea Berry, Ky., and Tina Coburn of River, Ky.; sons Wallace Jr. of Wayland, Ky., and John M. of Helena, Mont.; his mother, Elizabeth Varney of Warsaw; a sister, Lenora Penn of Silver Lake; a brother, Kelly of Claypool; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with calling from 2 to 6 p.m. today and also from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Warsaw.

Helen V. Wolfe Barrick, 82, of Butler, a member of Skyline Community Church in Fort Wayne, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Laurels of DeKalb.

The Union Mills, N.C., native retired in 1982 from L.S. Ayres after 15 years of service and had worked for Montgomery Reliable Store as a security officer. Surviving are a son, Jim B. Wolfe of Columbia City; daughters Molly V. Vakerics of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Ellen Crawford of Auburn; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with calling from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Auburn. Memorials are to the church.

Sr. Geraldine Blume
Silver Spring, Md.

Sr. Geraldine Blume, 66, of Silver Spring, Md., a member of Sisters of the Holy Cross, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Holy Cross Hospital.

The Fort Wayne native entered the convent in 1959 after teaching junior high for one year in Fort Wayne. She was an English teacher, taught at secondary schools in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan, served as director of admissions for McNamara High School in Forestville and was principal of the Academy of the Holy Cross. She had served as area coordinator for the sisters for the past three years. Surviving are a brother, Ralph R. Blume of Fort Wayne; a sister, Judith Byrnes of Warwick, R.I.; and nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Silver Spring. Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Home, Silver Spring. Burial was at Gate of Heaven cemetery. Memorials are to Holy Cross Sisters Ministry to the Poor Fund, St. Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

Cynthia Ann Smith, 55, of Angola, owner/operator of The Canteena in Garrett for the past 10 years, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn.

The Garrett native had worked for Northern Indiana Fuel & Light in Auburn for more than 30 years. She was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Julia A. Vogel of Garrett; stepdaughters Joann North and Judie McNally, both of Ohio, and Jean A. Smith of Minnesota; a son, Rodney G. Geeting of Auburn; a stepson, Jimmy of Tennessee; a brother, Tom Hassett of Fremont; one grandchild; and seven stepgrandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with calling from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Auburn. Memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
