William F. Galey, 71

FRANKFORT -- William F. Galey, 71, of Galveston and formerly of Frankfort, died at 5:23 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo.

Born May 21, 1934, in Frankfort, he was a graduate of Frankfort High School and had completed a correspondence course from Falwell Bible College.

He married Brenda S. Keever on Oct. 11, 1978, in Valdosta, Ga., and she survives.

Mr. Galey was a veteran of the Air Force.

He worked as a bus driver and handyman for the Salvation Army in Kokomo.

Mr. Galey was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War in Kokomo. He assisted in disaster services and received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1994.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Tammy Moran of Ridge Manor, Fla.; and three sisters, Dorothy Miller of LaPorte, Joan Randle of Frankfort and Sue Keever of Tampa, Fla.

Services are Friday in Frankfort.

Irvin A. Knapp, 79

FRANCESVILLE -- Irvin A. Knapp, 79, of 536 E. Violet St., died at 3:48 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Cissna Park, Ill.

His first marriage was to Florence Caulk on June 19, 1954, in Gary, and she preceded him in death on June 24, 1994. He married Phyllis Lowry Cox on Nov. 25, 1995, in Francesville, and she survives.

Mr. Knapp was the owner of Knapp Tire in Francesville until his retirement.

He was a member of Francesville American Legion and attended Francesville Apostolic Christian Church.

Mr. Knapp enjoyed fishing, spending winters in Sebring, Fla., and going for coffee with his friends.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Trudie Hahn (husband: Harold) of Branson, Mo., and Sandra Elliot (husband: Daniel) of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a son, Wallace Knapp (wife: Marlene) of Burns Harbor; a stepdaughter, Anna Larrison (husband: Donn) of Converse; a sister, Mary Ann Mann (husband: Charles) of Cissna Park; and two brothers, Lynn Knapp (wife: Sylvia) of Cissna Park and Roy Knapp (wife: Meri) of Cullom, Ill.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Thursday at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville. Services 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, ministers of the church officiating. Interment with military graveside rites by the Francesville American Legion at Hughes Cemetery. Surviving are 4 grandchildren, Mark Hahn (wife: Patty) of Elwood, Mindy Bryant (husband: Toby) of Bloomington, Ill., Gwendowlyn Knapp of College Station, Texas, and Angella Knapp of Valparaiso; a stepgrandchild, Misha Larrison of Indianapolis; and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Kenneth and Charles Knapp. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkview Haven Retirement Home.

James D. Lipsett Sr., 58

FRANKFORT -- James David Lipsett Sr., 58, formerly of Frankfort, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at Doctor's Hospital in Manteca, Calif. He had resided in Manteca for the past 18 years.

He was born July 16, 1947, in Frankfort.

Mr. Lipsett was the vice president for InMotion Incorporation for four years and previously owned a shoe store in Frankfort.

He was a coach for several sport teams in Manteca including the Manteca Cowboys, Manteca Chargers, Manteca Little League and the East Union men's basketball team. He had previously played in a rock band and was also a mentor for children.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Hellen Lipsett of Manteca; seven children, James David Lipsett Jr. (wife: Jayoung) and Phillip Lipsett (wife: Lisa), both of Michigan City, Jennifer Cardenas (husband: Sammy), Kate Lipsett, Jacob Lipsett and Shane Lewis, all of Manteca, and Tanner Lipsett of Amherst, Mass.; and five siblings, Diane Morison of West Lafayette, Jerone Collier of Crawfordsville, Judy Gascho of Mulberry, Kent Lipsett of Lafayette and Kevin Lipsett of Pawtucket, R.I.

No visitation. Chapel service 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Archer-Weston Funeral Home in Frankfort. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery. Surviving are 6 grandchildren, C.J. Cardenas, Isabella Cardenas and Chloe Cardenas, all of Manteca, Calif., Emily Lipsett, Trent Lipsett and Lauren Lipsett, all of Michigan City. Preceded in death by a brother, Jay Lipsett Jr. James will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many who will be missed by all who knew him. Memorials in loving memory of James David may be made to charity of donor's choice.

Barbara A. Powell, 71

Barbara A. "Bobbie" Powell, 71, of Lafayette, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at her residence.

Born March 4, 1934, in Marion, she lived in Peru, Ind., prior to moving to Lafayette in 1989.

Her marriage was to Ardith D. Powell on June 15, 1957, in Marion, and he preceded her on July 6, 2005.

Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and was active in the Life Light Bible Study of the church.

She enjoyed crafts, painting sweatshirts and knitting.

Surviving are a daughter, Kim Thomas (husband: Brad) of Carrollton, Texas; and a sister, Marilyn Kelsey of Indianapolis.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 hour prior to 11 a.m. services Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor David French officiating. Graveside services 2 p.m. Friday at Grant Memorial Park in Marion. Surviving are 2 grandsons, Andrew and Adam Phillippi. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Kathleen F. Kemmer Gibson. Memorials may be made to the St. James Lutheran School Library, 800 Cincinnati St., Lafayette, IN 47904.

Harold W. Stone, 72

BOSWELL -- Harold Wayne Stone, 72, died at 8:01 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at his home in Boswell.

Born Jan. 14, 1933, in Boswell, he was a longtime resident of Boswell and had previously lived for six months in Warren County.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Stone married Jean Little on June 23, 1952, in LaPorte, and she survives.

He served as the Boswell town marshall for 28 years and worked as a Benton County school bus driver for 28 years.

Mr. Stone was a member of the American Legion in Boswell and had just received his 50 year pin.

Surviving are four children, Mary Jane Kaniewski (husband: Arthur) of Versailles, Ky., Ann Jungel (husband: Gary) and Sandra Gayle, both of Boswell, and Charles Wayne of Fowler; two brothers, Bud Stone (wife: Pearl) of Sarasota, Fla., and Don Stone (wife: Hazel) of Lafayette; and two sisters, Sherry Norman (husband: Jerry) of Lafayette and Ada Moore (husband: Keith) of New Richmond.

There will be no services or burial at this time. Services entrusted to Grady Funeral Home. Surviving are 7 grandchildren, Stacy McKendree (wife: Ashley) and Beth Kaniewski, both of Versailles, Ky., Wendy Brost (husband: Kyle), Tara Jungel and Brittany Stone, all of Boswell, and Justin and Danielle Stone, both of Fowler; and 1 great-grandson, Dylan McKendree. Preceded in death by a sister, Francis McDonald; a brother, Gary Stone; and a grandson, Brian Jungel. Contributions can be made to the Benton County Ambulance Service in Boswell.

Graveside services with full military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday [posted on Aug. 25, 2005] at Boswell Cemetery, Brett Young officiating. Services entrusted to Grady Funeral Home.

Ruth R. Stults, 91

RENSSELAER -- Ruth R. Stults, 91, of Rensselaer and formerly of Toledo, Ill., died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at Rensselaer Care Center.

She was born Sept. 25, 1913, in Mattoon, Ill.

Her marriage was to Dale Stults on April 11, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Mrs. Stults was a homemaker and a bookkeeper.

Surviving are a son, Bill Stults of Lebanon; a daughter, Jackie Malchow of Rensselaer; and a sister, Ruby Freeman of Greenup, Ill.

Services are Saturday in Toledo.

Martha I. Whitfield, 84

FLORA -- Martha I. Whitfield, 84, formerly of 102 N. Division St., died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at Milner Healthcare Center in Rossville. She had been a resident there for the past four years.

She was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Rockville.

Her marriage was to Johnnie Whitfield on June 24, 1966, in Delphi, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1974.

Mrs. Whitfield was employed at Sayco in Flora for 35 years, retiring in 1996.

She enjoyed reading and watching the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Achor and Patricia Dillon (husband: Doug), both of Flora.

Services are Thursday in Flora.

Service 10 a.m. today, Reinke Funeral Home, Flora, Pastor Dan Gottschalk officiating. Interment Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. Surviving are 6 grandchildren, Kelly Hodson (husband: David), Jon Achor (wife: Jill), Kyle Achor (wife: Dawn), Holly Briggs (husband: Jody), Windy Wickersham (husband: Shawn), Casey Dillon. Preceded in death by 3 brothers, 3 sisters.
