Lester Dee Carvey
MACY -- Lester Dee Carvey, 89, of Macy, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2011 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife Donna Richter; daughter, Kaye (Brad) Hermann of Macy; daughter-inlaw,
Gloria M. Carvey, Rochester; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; sister, Aretha
P. Peterson, Omaha, Neb.; brother-in-law, Harry (Dorothy) Richter of Rochester; and sister-inlaw,
Helen (Frank) Brutcher of Logansport.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16 at McClain Funeral Home, where a
Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the Macy Christian Church
with Pastor David Welsh officiating.
Burial will follow in Plainview cemetery, Macy with honors provided by the Miami County Military
Rites Team.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice or Macy Christian Church.

Marian L. Craiger
PLYMOUTH -- Marian L. Craiger, 89, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at 10:42 p.m. Thursday,
Jan. 13, 2011 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth Campus.
Always caring of others, she is now in the loving care of her Lord Savior.
In August of this past year Marian returned from the mission fields in the Dominican Republic
where she assisted her son and daughter-in-law as a 'prayer warrior and caregiver.' She has
resided at Miller’s Assisted Living in Plymouth since her return.
Marian was born the daughter of John and Lillian Holton, Aug. 22, 1921 in Altoona, Penn. She
graduated from high school there in 1939.
She became the bride of Ernest H. Craiger Dec. 31, 1942 in Altoona; he preceded her in death
July 15, 1977. Also preceding her in death was a son, Dale E. Craiger; her eight brothers; and
three sisters.
Marian was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart, loved to read the Bible and enjoy
time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to being a homemaker, Marian had worked more than 25 years with the Army/Air
Force Exchange Service in Washington, D.C.
Surviving is her son Tim H. and wife Virginia Craiger of Elkhart, and daughter-in-law, Janet
Craiger of Washington, D.C.
Grandchildren include: Aaron and Gregory Craiger; Kelly L. and Rev. Scott Yoder of Plymouth
and their children, Reis, Hudson, Chapman, Owen and Davis; Karla R. and Jason Reed of
Chicago and their child, Jack; Brandon H. and Ashlee Craiger of Indianapolis and their children,
Braylon and Briggs.
Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A time of sharing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 in the First Baptist
Church of Elkhart, 58808 County Road 9, Elkhart.
A celebration of life service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the church with Rev. Scott Yoder
officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Altoona, Penn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to SCORE International – Church
Planting Ministry P.O. Box #9994, Chattanooga, TN, 37412.

Kenneth Fear
ETNA GREEN -- Kenneth Fear, 52, of Etna Green, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at Lutheran
Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Leah, Brenda and Angela; three grandchildren;
seven brothers; two sisters; a stepsister; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the Bremen VFW.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Alijah Trent Light
PLYMOUTH -- Alijah Trent Light, 49 days, Plymouth, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011
at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, after a sudden illness.
He is survived by his parents, Erica Martin and Akeem Light; brother, Akeem Light Jr.; maternal
grandparents, Pamela Exford of Ft. Wayne, and Albert (Aida) Martin Jr. of Plymouth; paternal
grandparents, Dannette Light of Dallas, Texas and John Light Jr. of Merrillville; and greatgrandmothers,
Annie Martin of Gary, Katherine Light of Gary, and Gloria Bush of Ft. Wayne.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 at the Plymouth Wesleyan Church,
11203 S. Michigan, Plymouth.
Burial will follow at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos, assisted the family with arrangements.

Gertrude R. Nawara
BASS LAKE -- Gertrude R. Nawara, 95, died at 6:50 p.m. CDT at her home.
She is survived by her sons: Thomas W. (Bernadine) Nawara of Riverside, Ill., Walter A. (Tina)
Nawara of West Palm Beach, Fla., Raymond J. (Andrea) Nawara of Dallas, Texas, John R.
(Anna) Nawara and George G. (Teri) Nawara both of Plainfield, Ill. And James G. Nawara of
Chicago; daughters: Therese G. Nawara of Chicago, Ill., Gertrude R. Nawara of Bass Lake,
Christine M. Nawara of Clarendon Hills, Ill., Judith M. (George) Apelian of Northbrook, Ill. And
Maria R. (Bob) Padilla of Western Springs, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. CDT Monday, Jan. 17 at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S.
Cass Ave., Darien, IL, 60561.
Funeral services will take place at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 at the funeral home.
A mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church, 701 Plainfield Road, Darien, Ill.
Burial will follow in the Resurrection cemetery Mausoleum, Chicago.

BASS LAKE -- Gertrude R. Nawara, 95, of Bass Lake, died at 6:50 p.m. CDT at her residence.
Arrangements are pending with The Modell Funeral Home 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien, IL, 60561.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, assisted the family with local arrangements.

Harry R. Sundine
BROWNSBURG -- Harry R. Sundine, 83, of Brownsburg, formerly of Rochester, died January
13, 2011 at Yellow Rose Hospice, Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
He is survived by his wife Jean; sons Steve (Mary) Sundine of Rochester and Cal (Teri) Sundine
of Richmond; daughter, Becky Sundine of Brownsburg; two grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren;
sister-in-laws, Marie (Raymon) Giles of Akron and Louise Green of Fort Wayne;
five nieces; and nine nephews.
Visitation will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th Street, Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at the Rochester IOOF cemetery with full military rites by the Manitou VFW Post
and the Leroy Shelton American Legion Post.
Memorials contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Karen M. Wood
GRIFFITH -- Karen M. Wood, 62, of Griffith, passed away at 8:24 p.m., at the Riley Residence
in Munster.
Karen was born June 12, 1948 in Hammond, to Max and Helen (Cromley) Sechner Jr. After her
mother’s death, her father was later married to Eleanor Sechner.
She was a 1966 graduate of Griffith High School and attended one year of college. On May 13,
1976 Karen was married to Michael Wood in Kankakee, Ill. He preceded her in death.
Karen was a retired truck driver. She loved to sew and knit. She was very crafty and loved
ceramics. She was a Methodist by faith.
Karen is survived by her stepmom, Eleanor Sechner of Noblesville; brother, Jim Sechner of
Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister, Linda (Wayne) Ready of Martinsville; stepbrother, Mark (Meribeth)
Kussmaul of Crawfordsville; and stepsisters: Linda (Dave) Nelson and Nancy (Edward) Prechel
of Noblesville, and Jeri (Dennis) Bowman of Griffith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Donna Reininga.
A time of visitation with the family was held Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Odom
Funeral Home in Culver.
Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial took place at Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Karen’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.
The Odom Funeral, Culver, was entrusted with the arrangements.

Leroy Garmany
MEDARYVILLE -- Leroy Garmany, 75, of Medaryville, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at his residence.
He is survived by his brothers, Leonard Garmany of Monticello and Raymond Garmany of St. John.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn cemetery, Schererville.
Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, 408 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, assisted the family with arrangements.

Russell "Paul" Pontius
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Russell 'Paul' Pontius, 91, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of
Walkerton, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at his residence.
He was born July 19, 1919 in Walkerton, to the late Lawrence and Lucy Kilian Pontius.
On Nov. 8, 1940, Paul married Irene Cox who passed away in October of 1979. Paul and Helen
Hundt were married in October of 1981 and she passed away in May of 1997. In June of 2000,
Paul married Phyllis June Reim who survives.
He was a retired truck driver for Del Monte and was a member of the Teegarden United
Methodist Church, before he moved to Florida in 2000.
Paul is survived by his wife, Phyllis June Pontius; and three daughters and four sons: Evelyn
(Bob) Smith of Lake Wales, Fla., Wayne (La Jean) Pontius of Winter Haven, Fla., Barbara Keith
of North Liberty, Larry (Karen) Pontius of Plymouth, Allen (Donna) Pontius of Plymouth, Carol
(Bob) Duncan of Milford, and Mark (Beth) Pontius of Argos.
He is also survived by a number of stepchildren, 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and
two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Jay and James; and a great-granddaughter, Addison
Cummings.
Friends are invited to share memories with Paul’s family Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m.
at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Tim Davis of the Teegarden United Methodist Church, will
be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 112 S. Center St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.

Diana Stiles
PLYMOUTH -- Diana Stiles, 61, of Plymouth, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at Methodist Hospital,
Southlake, Merrillville.
She is survived by her husband, Don E. Stiles; daughter, Melissa (Rodney) Abair of Plymouth;
brother, Troy (Billi) Brantley; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will take place at noon Wednesday at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Dean Marshall Hoover
WARSAW -- Dean Marshall Hoover of Wellington Drive, Warsaw, passed away into the loving
arms of the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at 3 p.m., at his residence, surrounded by his loving
family, in Warsaw, at the age of 70.
He was born Sept. 18, 1940 in Red Cedar Township, Dunn County, Wis. To Horatio Worden
Hoover and Frances Erna (Giese) Hoover. On Sept. 3, 1961 he was married to Kathryn A.
Smith, who survives.
Dean served in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 24, 1957 until his honorable discharge March 6, 1961.
He served on the USS Van Voorhis and the USS Hartley.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County, moving here in 1961, then 1996 to 2008 he moved to
Florida, returning to Warsaw in 2008. Dean worked at R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Warsaw, as a
Four Color Retoucher. He was a member and usher at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Warsaw.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #49 and VFW #1126, both of Warsaw,
Destroyer-Escort Sailors Association, 1, 000 Class Recruiter, Dealey Class Ships, Cruisin
Hoosier Car Club with his 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air, and a H.O. Scale Train Enthusiast. Dean
loved to hunt and fish, and was a lifelong Green Bay Packer’s fan.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Kathryn A. Hoover (Warsaw); one
daughter, Shelia (husband Maxwell) Ezeji (Syracuse); two sons, Michael (wife Deborah) Hoover
(Warsaw); Gary (wife Lynette) Hoover (Red Lion, Penn.); six grandchildren; one sister, Judith
Exford (Milwaukee, Wis.); and one brother, Roger (wife Myrna) Hoover (Racine, Wis.). Also
surviving are his two dogs, Brandy and Coco. He was preceded in death by his parents, two
brothers, and one granddaughter.
His funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 10 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran
Church, 1720 E. Center St., Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Stuart Floyd.
Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites conducted by the Indiana ARNG
Honor Guard, American Legion Post #49, and the VFW Post #1126, both of Warsaw.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225
Argonne Road, Warsaw.
There will also be calling Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at the
church.
Memorial donations can be made in Dean’s name to Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice, P.O.
Box #1196, Warsaw, IN, 46581-1196; or to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1720 E. Center St.,
Warsaw, IN, 46580.
