Darleen E. Xaver
PLYMOUTH -- Darleen E. Xaver, 69, of East La Porte Street, Plymouth, Ind., passed away
Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 12:35 p.m. at her home.
She was born July 15, 1941, in Plymouth, to Albin 'Bud' and Edythe (Smith) Wilson. Darleen
graduated from West High School and was a former officer of the West High School Alumni.
She was married to John Xaver from 1961 to1978.
Darleen worked at the Pilot News, the Tasty Freeze, the Penny Saver, and Aflac Insurance. She
was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served on the church board
and was very active on many other committees. She was also a member of the Women of the
Moose Lodge #1355, and was proud that she was a Phi Delta Kappa, 'Sweetheart.'
Darleen is survived by her daughters, Debra Xaver of Frisco, Texas and Vicki (Chad) Hatfield of
North Carolina; her son, Jeffery (Andrea) Xaver of Traverse City, Mich.; her grandchildren:
Jeffery, Jessica, Addison, Kane, Hudson, Bailey and Brady; her mother, Edythe Wilson of
Plymouth; and her brother, Richard (Melinda) Wilson of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her father, 'Bud' Wilson, and John Xaver.

Helen C. Devine
GROVERTOWN -- Helen C. Devine, 51, died Friday, March 25, 2011 in Wintersong Village,
Knox.
She is survived by her son, Peter (Candi) Devine of Argos; mother, Jean Devine of Grovertown;
six grandchildren; partner, Rick Papp of Fish Lake; brothers: Bill, Wayne, James and John; and
sister, Lorna Cisarik.
There will be no services or visitation. Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel assisting the
family with arrangements.

Robert Allen Yeo
LAKEVILLE -- Robert Allen Yeo, 55, passed away at 3:40 p.m. March 25, 2011 at Regency
Place in South Bend, from cancer.
Robert was the son of Ronald and Mary Jane Yeo. He will be remembered lovingly by his
mother; and siblings, Ben (Peggy) Yeo of Bremen; Barb (Lynn) Donathen of Tippecanoe;
Beverly (Harold) Roberts of Bremen; Brenda Yeo (Kevin Frick) of Lakeville; and Russell
(Jennifer) Yeo of Bourbon. Robert’s father, Ronald, preceded him in death.
Robert was survived by his children: Eric Yeo, Tess (Brad) Lee, Mark (Alisha) Yeo, Amanda Yeo
Marlow, and Katrina Dame; and grandchildren: Jared Lee, Jenna Lee, Kieren Dame, and Blaize
Yeo.
Robert donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program at the Indiana University School
of Medicine.
Family and friends may gather at a memorial service at the Newton Center in Lakeville from 4 to
6 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011.
Donations to The Center for Hospice Care will be accepted.

Adam R. Broeker
CULVER -- Adam R. Broeker, 29, of Culver, passed away at 5:42 p.m. March 26, 2011 at his
home.
Adam was born to Robert and Lois (Bradley) Broeker July 15, 1981 in South Bend. He was a
2000 graduate of Culver Military Academy. After meeting on a blind date, he was later married to
Allysa Tchop, Sept. 23, 2009. She survives.
Adam enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering with cars, riding snow mobiles, boating, and four-wheeling.
He loved his cat Daisy and farmed with his family. His interest in cars began with his first car – a
‘74 Corvette Stingray, and continued with his 2010 Camaro.
In addition to his wife, Adam is survived by his parents, Bob and Lois Broeker; 10-month-old son
Aiyden, at home; as well as an unborn child; sister, Laura (Robert) McMahan of Houston, Texas;
and grandmothers, Edna Bradley and Anne Marie Broeker, both of Culver.
A time of visitation will be held at the Culver Military Academy Memorial Chapel Thursday, March
31, 2011 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Rev. K.C. Dehning will officiate services at 10:30 a.m.
At the Academy Chapel.
Interment will follow at the Burr Oak cemetery.
The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur D. Lawrence
PLYMOUTH -- Arthur D. Lawrence, 96, of Plymouth, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at St.
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Jeannie Lawrence of Leesburg, Fla. And Evelyn
(Charles) Snyder, of Placentia, Calif.; sons, John (Jan) Lawrence and Timothy Lawrence of
Plymouth; stepdaughter, Mary Ruth Muffley of Plymouth; and daughter, Lorraine (Joe) Fredrick
of Claypool; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at the
New Oakhill cemetery Chapel, Plymouth.
Burial will follow. Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth is assisting the family with
arrangements.

Garneta Light
PLYMOUTH -- Garneta Light, 81, died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, 635 Oakhill
Ave., at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011.
Garneta was born May 28, 1929, in Tyner, Ind., the daughter of Ray and Agnes Rupel Stull. She
graduated from Tyner High School.
She was first married to Don Balsley and later married Willard Light.
Garneta worked as a dietician at several hospitals and nursing homes in Indiana and Illinois.
A member of the Bremen Church of the Brethren, she loved to shop and to cook and was
famous for her delicious pies and deserts and potato salad.
Always working, she took care of numerous disabled and elderly couples, cooking and cleaning
in their homes. She was a devoted animal lover.
Garneta is survived by two daughters and two sons. Her daughters are Karen and Gene Curless,
New Haven, Ind.; Joyce and Robert Breeden, Utica, Ill. Her sons are Gregory and Joetta Balsley,
Plymouth, and Brian Balsley, Boulder, Wyo.
Six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren also survive, as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Also surviving Garneta are two sister-in-laws, Alice Shaffer, Plymouth and Dorothy Stull of
Bourbon.
Garneta was preceded in death by both of her husbands; two brothers, Dean and Galen Stull; an
infant brother, Wayne; and two sisters, Jeanette and Martha Clingenpeel.
Visitation and the sharing of memories with her family will be Saturday, April 2, 2011, from noon
to 2 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.
The funeral services for Garneta will be held following visitation at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Bremen cemetery, Bremen, Ind.
Memorials to Garneta’s name may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society, P.O. Box #22,
Plymouth, Ind.

Lorraine C. Mercer
WALKERTON -- Lorraine C. Mercer, 86, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 in Miller’s Merry
Manor, Walkerton.
Lorraine Mercer was born May 10, 1924 in Mexico, Mo. To John and Hazel (Lutton) Smith and
lived in the area for 49 years, coming from St. Louis, Mo.
May 30, 1940 in Charleston, Mo. She was married to James A. Mercer who preceded her in
death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Greg Mercer.
Survivors include: one daughter, Deborah (Jerry) Lowery of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sons,
James (Pat Best) Mercer of Stillwell, Ind. And Robert (Judy) Mercer of Walkerton; seven
grandchildren: Dennis and Darin Mercer, Bruce and Brian Mercer, Julie Porter, Mike Lowery and
Kameron Struble; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, John
Kratzchmar of Calif.; and one sister, Carolyn Mallardi of Plymouth.
Lorraine Mercer was a homemaker and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. The family
would like to give a special thank-you to the staff at Miller’s Merry Manor for the special care
given.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz
Lake Chapel with Pastor Charlene Allen officiating.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. ET in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Walkerton Miller’s Merry Manor
activity department or to the donor’s choice.

Roy 'Jack' Hughes
PLYMOUTH -- Roy 'Jack' Hughes, age 91, of 400 W. Washington St., Plymouth, Ind., passed
away at 10:09 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, at his home.
Jack was born March 9, 1920, in Plymouth, to Walter and Ethel (Personett) Hughes. He was
retired from the Plymouth Foundry and the Marshall County Highway Department. He also
worked part-time for Dr. Connell, doing landscaping. Jack lived most his adult life in the
Plymouth and Argos areas. He spent his childhood in Bremen, Ind.
Jack is survived by his sons, Robert (Nancy) Hughes of Plymouth and Jim Hughes of Plymouth;
his sister, Mary Bottorff; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild.
Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Hughes; and his sister, Helen Hughes. Memorial
contributions may be given to the choice of the donor.

Connie Lee Ullery
LAKE OF THE WOODS -- Lifetime Marshall County resident Connie Lee Ullery, passed away
Monday, March 28, 2011 at 1:31 p.m. in the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, Ind.
Connie has bravely faced her health issues over the past several years.
Connie was born in Plymouth Oct. 23, 1944. She was the daughter of Howard E. and Nina C.
(Albert) Schafer.
She graduated from LaPaz High School in 1962. There she played in the band and has for many
years served as an officer for the Alumni Association.
Her career in travel took her to many locations as a guide, and for the past 26 years, she has
been the owner-operator of the ever-popular American Dream Tours, located in Plymouth.
She attended the Plymouth Missionary Church, where she was a founding member and had
played the organ for many years. She was an energetic woman, who loved rainbows, working,
mowing the grass, speed walking and pushing sweepers. Connie possessed an extensive
collection of stuffed bears and it was her wish to share that hug with others.
Connie is survived by a son and his wife, Richard W. and Dawn Ullery of Bremen; and a
daughter, Melinda Sue and her husband Kyle Hawkins, also of Bremen. A sister, Janet Gottlieb
of Hobart, survives as well.
Five grandchildren also survive: Christopher Ullery, Amanda Ullery, Sarah Hawkins, Joshua
Hawkins and Aaron Hawkins. One great-grandson David and an expected great-granddaughter
(in July) also survive.
Connie’s parents preceded her in death.
Family and friends will celebrate the life of Connie Ullery during visitation Friday, April 1 from 3 to
8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Connie will be Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. in the Plymouth Missionary
Church, 1350 E. Jefferson St., Plymouth where visitation will continue one hour prior to the
service.
The Rev. Patrick Puglisi, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen cemetery.
Preferred memorial gifts in Connie’s name may be made to the Missionary Church Building Fund
1350 E. Jefferson St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
