CULVER -- Vera Mouton, 92, of Culver, died at 2:50 a.m. May 2, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor,
Culver.
She is survived by daughters, Nancy (Walter) Covert of Culver, and Helen (Gary) Shell of Yale,
Mich.; a sister, Nancy Challman of California; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 at New Life Church,
Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at Yale cemetery, Yale, Mich.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Richard C. Rader
BREMEN -- Richard C. Rader, 93, of Bremen, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at his home
surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Rader; sons, David (Paula) Rader and John (Sandy) Rader,
both of Bremen; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise (Maynard)
Hochstetler, Bremen.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the Nappanee Missionary Church
Chapel and one hour prior to services Friday.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6 at the church.
Burial will follow in Bremen cemetery at approximately 1:30 following the funeral dinner.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marshall County Center for Hospice Care or the
Children’s department at Nappanee Missionary Church.
Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is assisting the family with
arrangements.

Bernadine "Ida" Hochstetler
NAPPANEE -- Bernadine 'Ida' Hochstetler, 50, of Nappanee, died at 10:22 pm, Tuesday, May
3, 2011 at Goshen General Hospital of natural causes.
She is survived by her sons, Jeff (Sarell) Hochstetler of Charlotte, N. C. and Eric Hochstetler of
Nappanee: two grandchildren; sisters: Connie (Joe) Frenette of Gulliver, Mich.; Tammy
VanDenDriessche of Manistique, Mich., and Lori (Don) Lamkin of Topeka; brothers: Rick (Cindy)
Smith of Gulliver, Mich., Larry (Sarah) Smith of Sparta, Wis., and Karl Schnurer of Manistique,
Mich.; a sister-in-law, Debbie Schnurer; 11 nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; and a greatnephew.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Hepton Union cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Ivan Mathias
FLORIDA -- James Ivan Mathias, 65, formerly of Rochester, died in Florida.
He is survived by two aunts: Agatha Marsh of Rochester and Thelma Frettinger of Rochester;
three uncles: Charles Moon of Mishawaka, William Moon & wife Marilyn of Rochester and
Donald Moon and wife Emma of Bradenton, Fla.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m Wednesday, May 11 at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th
St., Rochester.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home, with Pastor Thad Stewart officiating.
Burial will be at the Rochester IOOF cemetery Rochester.
Memorials may be made to the Crossroads Baptist Church, Gilead.

Betty L. Weller
ROCHESTER -- Betty L. Weller, 83, of Park St. Rochester, died at 2:06 a.m., Wednesday, May
4, at Hickory Creek, Rochester.
She is survived by two daughters, Tonia Weller, and husband Michael Kinney, of Rochester; and
Kathy L. Furnivall, and husband Rick, of Rochester; two grandsons: James Furnivall of Elkhart
and Jeffrey Furnivall, and wife Ashley, of Rochester; great-grandsons: Braydn Jeffrey Furnivall,
Camdyn Furnivall and Daryl Furnivall; and one sister, Mary Wentzel, of Rochester; and one
brother, Harold Wentzel, and wife Nancy, of Plymouth.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services at the Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the
funeral home, with Rev. Maurice Grindle officiating.
Burial will be at the Bruce Lake cemetery.

Freida Louise Bowers
NAPPANEE -- Freida Louise Bowers, 103, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, formerly of
Nappanee, died at 5:09 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor.
She is survived by her son, David (Joanne) Bowers, Nappanee; grandchildren, Robin Bonnell,
Tuscon, Ariz., Scott (Sherrie) Bowers, Lebanon, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law,
Dorothy Miller, and a brother-in-law, Paul Hochstetler.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 12, at Union Center cemetery. Rev. Tom
Schiefer will officiate. A memorial service will be held June 4, at 1 p.m. at the First Brethren
Church in Nappanee. There will be a gathering for friends for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Brethren Church Women’s Missionary Society
or Sewing Ministry.

Esther Hochstetler Schmucker
NAPPANEE -- Esther Hochstetler Schmucker, 90, of LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee, died at
1:21 a.m., Thursday, at the nursing home.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen (Glenn) Mullet, Nappanee; sons, Mervin Jay
Hochstetler, Sarasota, Fla., Delbert Lee 'Bert' (Elli) Hochstetler, Nappanee; stepdaughters, Marie (Daniel)
Fisher, Middlefield, Ohio, Kathryn (Harvey) Miller, Cub Run, Ky.; stepsons, Samuel (Ada)
Schmucker, Delbert (Fannie) Schmucker, both of Mio, Mich., John Henry (Minnie) Schmucker,
Penn.; 16 grandchildren; 59 step-grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and more than 100 stepgreat
grandchildren. Son-in-law, Oscar (Laura) Schmucker Jr., Nappanee also survives.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday at Matthew Schmucker’s residence (5292 E.
Co. Line Rd., Bremen). Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m., Sunday at the Everett Hochstetler
residence (13996 N 1050W).
The Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be in Weldy
cemetery.
Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.

Maxine Zerbe
ROCHESTER -- Maxine Zerbe, 97, of 1106 Pearl St., Rochester died May 5, 2011 at Life Care
Center of Rochester.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Beulah Zerbe of Rutledge, Tenn.; a niece; and greatnieces
and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of the life of Maxine Moore Zerbe will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Good
Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.
Friends may visit with her family from 9 to 11 a.m. She will be buried in Rochester’s IOOF
cemetery.

Thomas Lee Bridegroom
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. -- Thomas Lee Bridegroom, 29, Woodland Hills, Calif., formerly of
Knox, died Saturday, May 7, 2011.
He is survived by his parents, Norman and Martha (Parker) Bridegroom; sister, Kim Butts of
North Liberty; and a brother, David Bridegroom of Knox.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. (EST) Monday, May 16 at the M.C. Smith Funeral
Home, Knox.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 at the Memorial Chapel at Culver
Academy, Culver.
Burial will follow at Winamac cemetery. Donations may be made to the family via the funeral
home.

Larry Larkin Condon
PLYMOUTH -- Larry Larkin Condon, 71, of Plymouth died May 7, 2011 at his residence of
natural causes.
He is survived by three daughters, Carleen Ann Condon of Plymouth, Kelly Lynn Kring of
Plymouth, and Kim Sue Rosinski of Grovertown; sister, Marry Summers of Dunlap; brother,
Robert Condon of Kentucky; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no services.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth is in charge of arrangements.

Emma L. Tolson Thompson
KNOX -- Emma L. Tolson Thompson, 56, died at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, in IU Health,
Starke Hospital in Knox.
She is survived by sons, Michael D. Watts of Knox and Donald R. Thompson of Westville; a
daughter, Jenine (Aaron) Pugh of LaPorte; five grandchildren; brothers: James Tolson of North
Judson, Raymond Tolson, Hager Tolson and Michael Tolson, all of Knox, Jerry Tolson of Argos
and Danny Tolson of Grand Ridge, Fla.; and sisters: Helen Mullins of Knox, Jacqueline Collins of
English Lake and Anna Rudd of Michigan City.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. CDT Friday, May 13 at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rannells Funeral Home.

Charles 'Mikey' High
PLYMOUTH -- Charles 'Mikey' High, age 58, of Michigan Road, Plymouth, passed away at 5
p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City.
He was born Sept. 7, 1952, in LaPorte, to Charles and Barbara (Calhoun) High. Charles and
Carolyn Maxson were married Sept. 5, 1999, in Plymouth.
He worked as a finish carpenter at Majority Builders.and had been a resident of Marshall County
since 1970.
Michael is survived by his wife, Carolyn Maxson; his sons: Andrew High of Plymouth, David
(Esmeralea) Carroll of Plymouth, Daniel Carroll of Plymouth, and Gail (Rob) Busam of Plymouth;
his daughter, Sandra Busam and her companion Kristi Stockberger of Rochester, Ind.; his
sisters: Terri (John) Flanagan of Plymouth, Elizabeth (Aaron) Bouts of Eaton Rapids, Mich., and
Ramona (Tim) Mehall of Granger, Ind.; his brothers, Ray Frazier of Mishawaka, Ind. and Kriss
High of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; and his beloved cat Humphrey, who followed him
wherever he went.

BREMEN -- Dorothy Ellen Swank, 87, of Bremen, died Sunday, May 8, 2011at the Bremen
Health Care Center. She is survived by her husband, Eldon; son, Mike (Brenda) Swank of Sun
City, Fla.; five grandchildren; a brother; and five sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at the Bremen cemetery Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice.
Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

ROCHESTER -- Jackie D. 'Jack' Utter, 76, of Rochester, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8 at
the Roudebush V.A. Medical Center, Indianapolis.
He is survived by sons, Randy (Jennifer) Utter of Rochester and Rick (Teri) Utter of Rochester;
daughter, Trisha Utter of Rochester; four grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Swick of Beaver
Dam; brother, Morse (Pat) Utter of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 and one hour prior to services
Thursday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Athens cemetery.
