Marjorie I. Mattern
ELKHART -- Marjorie I. Mattern, age 92, of 343 S. Nappanee St., Elkhart, formerly of Plymouth,
passed away at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Woodland Manor Nursing Home, in Elkhart.
Marjorie was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Nappanee, to Harry and Della (Heckaman) Strang. She was
a graduate of West High School in the Class of 1936.
Aug. 5, 1945, in Nappanee, Marjorie became the bride of Charles Mattern. Together they raised
their three children. Marjorie proudly served her country in the United States Army during WWII.
She had been a resident of Marshall County, Ind., since 1920.
Marjorie had been a member of the Pretty Lake Trinity Church, Plymouth, since 1945. She
enjoyed being a teacher’s aide at Washington School. She was a crossing guard at Webster
School, helped at the Webster Center, was a Marshall County Republican Party Precinct
Committee Member, enjoyed encouraging people to register to vote, was a 35-year volunteer
with the American Red Cross, a member of the American Legion, and a member of AARP.
Marjorie was an avid football fan, loved music, and spent a lot of time crocheting many beautiful
doilies, snowflakes, and afghans.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Ruth Soper of Indianapolis, and Sally (David) Rains of
Elkhart; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, Sept. 11, 1968; their son, Timothy Mattern,
April 20, 1993; four brothers; and five sisters.

Emily Rose Clarkson
ROCHESTER -- Newborn Emily Rose Clarkson died at 8:22 p.m. Sept. 10, 2010 at Woodlawn
Hospital, Rochester.
She is survived by her parents, Jeremy James and Rosetta Faye Johnson Clarkson; a brother,
Jeremy James "J.J." Clarkson Jr.; and a sister, Sapphire Renee Nichols.
Private family services were held.
Burial took place at Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, assisted the family with arrangements.
Otto H. (Mike), Jr Lueth
PLYMOUTH -- Otto H. (Mike) Lueth, Jr., 70, of Union Rd., Plymouth died as a result of a motor
vehicle accident at 4:33 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010.
Mike was born in Oak Park, Ill., April 29, 1940, the son of Otto Lueth, Sr., and Dorothy Thiell
Lueth. He graduated from Elmwood Park High School in 1957 and completed automotive school
in Chicago, Ill.
Aug. 27, 1960, in Chicago, Mike and Carolyn Marohn were married
.
He owned L & M Service Center, Culver, and then was the owner and operator of Plymouth Auto
Service for 30 years, retiring April 1, 2005.
He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and loved his motorcycle. A farmer at heart, he enjoyed
football, especially the Bears and the Colts.
Mike is survived by his wife and two sons: Daniel and his wife, Susanne Lueth, Plymouth, and
Matthew and Shari Lueth, Knox.
Five grandchildren also survive: Tabbetha, Brandis, Correy, Danica and Hannah Lueth. A sister,
Marlene Jones of Ill., survives as well.
Friends are invited to visit and share memories with Mike’s family Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 from
4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Mike will be held in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 6835 Union Road
Plymouth, where he was a member, Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. with additional
calling one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mike’s name may be made to the Marshall County Humane
Society P.O. Box #22 Plymouth, Ind. Or the Immanuel Lutheran church.
Rachel M. Rupert
KNOX -- Rachel M. Rupert, 46, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2010 in Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty (James) Toney of Knox; son, John (Charlotte) Rupert of
Knox; five grandchildren; her mother, Betty Rupert of Winamac; sisters: Mary Fletcher of
Winamac, Kathy Hurt and Rita Rupert, both of Van Wert, Ohio, Julie Rupert of Houston, Texas,
and Robin Boulie of Mo.; and brothers, J. Rupert of Wheatfield and Thomas Rupert of Van Wert,
Ohio.
Visitation will take place a from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Central Time) Thursday, Sept. 16 at Rannells
Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at the Highland cemetery, North Judson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home.
John A. Sheetz
ROCHESTER -- John A. Sheetz, 81, of Rochester, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at
his residence.
He is survived by his wife Joanna; daughter, Pastor Susan (Pastor David)Jennys of Francesville;
two grandchildren; a sister, Charlene (Warren) Cole of Round Rock, Texas; and a brother, Steve
(Gladys) Sheetz of Galveston.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

L. Max Newcomer
NAPPANEE -- L. Max Newcomer, 82, of Nappanee, died at 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11,
2010 at The Maples, Goshen, after an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Sue (Doug) Purdue of Goshen; sons: Ryan
(Valerie) Newcomer of Bristol, Wayne (Jackie) Newcomer of Lafayette, Tracy (Delores)
Newcomer of Nappanee, and Dale (Phyllis) Newcomer of New Paris; a stepdaughter, Sheri
(Tom) Bradway of Nappanee; stepson, Steve (Kim) Reaker of Nappanee; 18 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Eugene Newcomer of Nappanee; and sisters, Joanne
(Richard) White of LaGrange, and Carol (Jeffery) Hope of Elkhart.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15 at ThompsonLengacher
& Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16 at Mt. Tabor Church of God.

Dorothy Reed
NORTH LIBERTY -- Dorothy E. Reed, 102, of Bremen Health Care Center, died Saturday,
Sept. 11, 2010 in the Care Center.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Lillian) Reed of St. James City, La.; a sister, Marguerite
McCutheon of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren
and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. (Eastern Time) at the North
Liberty Church of Christ.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church.

Calhoun, Denver, Colo.; brothers, James J. Basile Jr., Olive Branch, Miss., Joseph Basile,
Lafayette, David Basile, Rochester, and John Basile, Adam Basile, and Christopher Basile.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home,
Rochester.

Sharon M. Senne Edwards
PLYMOUTH -- Sharon M. Senne Edwards, 73, of Plymouth, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010.
She is survived by daughters: Diane (Arnold) Siegert of Battle Creek, Mich., Doris (Donald)
Newcomb of Dyersburg, Debra (Roger Sr.) Petimone of Scottsdale, Ariz.; son, Dean (Sharon)
Senne of Bartlett, Ill.; stepson, Mark Edwards of Addison, Ill.; stepdaughter, Jennifer Edwards of
DeKalb. Ill.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Baker of Reedsville,
N.C.; an aunt, Loretta Dolski of Omro, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran
Church, 37 Army Trail, Addison, Ill.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Robert G. Collins
KEWANNA -- Robert G. Collins, 82, 4995 W. 725 South, Kewanna, Ind., passed away at 6:50
a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 at Hickory Creek of Rochester.
He was born Sept. 4, 1928 in Monticello, the son of Jesse and Hazel (Moore) Collins. He was a
1947 graduate of Metea High School.
Sept. 18, 1949 in Jeffersonville, he married
Mary Mullins and she survives.
Mr. Collins had worked as a self-employed repairman and had been a member of the Indiana
National Guard. He enjoyed going to auctions, spending time his family and making homemade
ice cream.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Collins, Kewanna; children: Carolyn and husband Ronald
Pearson of Macy, Lois and husband Sam Coffing, of Kewanna, Ruth Price of Logansport, Peggy
and husband Jimmy of Scarbrough, Post Falls, Idaho, Michael and wife Emyle Collins of
Plymouth, Jim and wife Viola Collins of Knox, and Amy and husband Scott Lewis of North
Manchester; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia and husband Roger
Brock of Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Becky Collins; grandson, Brian Pearson;
and brother, Pete Luse.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral
Home, Fulton, with the Rev. Jason See officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16 and one hour prior to service at the funeral
home.
Burial will be in the Fulton cemetery, Fulton, Indiana.

VAPARAISO -- Robert Louis Okeley, 75, of Valparaiso, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 at his
residence.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; sons, David (Terri) Okeley of Wanatah and Robert N. Okeley
of Valparaiso; daughters: Christine Rains of Valparaiso, Cynthia West of Bakersfield, Calif., Sara
Brown of Valparaiso, and Kathleen (Tom) Stigert of Valparaiso; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren;
brothers, Donald and Charles Okeley; and sisters: Elsie Papp, Lila Rudd, Joyce
Bailey, Doris Wrovlewski, and Alice Miller.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102
Monroe St., Valparaiso.
Funeral services will take place a 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Angelcrest cemetery, Valparaiso.
