Lillian Bender

Lillian G. Bender, 86, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Columbia Healthcare Facility. She retired as cafeteria manager for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp.

She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2953 and Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son, Joseph of Cincinnati; a sister, Loretta Bambei of New Harmony, Ind.; three brothers, James H. and Harry M. "Mac" Brown, both of Evansville and Curtis Eben Brown of Kimball, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Kate and Emily.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, the Rev. R. Wayne Perkins officiating, with entombment in the cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Church.

Hayward Embry

Hayward Embry, 89, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital. He owned and operated an independent construc- tion contracting business for 50 years. He retired from the University of Evansville.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Christine; a daughter, Barbara Embry of Evansville; two sisters, Alberta Hackney and Helen Moore, both of Pekin, Ill.; a brother, Kenneth of Pekin; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Garry Lanham officiating, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Paul Long

Paul W. Long, 65, of Evansville, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Columbia Healthcare Facility of respiratory failure.

He retired from Knotty Pine Restaurant.

Surviving are three brothers, Arthur E. and Patrick R., both of Evansville and James E. of South Carolina; and nieces and nephews.

The body will be cremated. There will be no services. Simpson-Meyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice.

John Hast

John J. Hast, 84, of Evansville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Cincinnati.

He was a chemist for Hilton-Davis Chemical Co. in Cincinnati for more than 25 years.

He was a World War II veteran and participated in D-Day operations on June 6, 1944.

He divided his retirement between living in Providence, Ky., and Evansville.

Surviving are a daughter, Frances K. Hast of San Jose, Calif.; a son, Richard J. of Cincinnati; and two grandsons, Bradley J. and Jeffrey R. Hast.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Yvonne (Drouineau) in 1962 and Gertrude H. "Trudy" last year.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, the Rev. Daniel Kincaid officiating, with military rites.

There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Willard Library or the West Branch Public Library.

Lorraine Zeller

Lorraine M. Zeller, 76, of Evansville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center of heart failure. She work-ed at Smith & Butterfield from 1960 to 1983.

She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Boeglin of Haubstadt, Ind., and Sister Leta Zeller of Ferdinand, Ind.; four sons, Louis M. Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ind., and Leo "Mark," Loren and Lance, all of Evansville; two sisters, Joy Hayes of Tucson, Ariz., and Darleen Deckelmann of Springfield, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Michael Sr., in 1997; and a son, Ronald, in 1948.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Church, the Revs. William Traylor and Eugene Schroeder officiating. The body will be cremated.

There will be no visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand.

Jeremy Weil

Jeremy Andrew Weil, 21, of Evansville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Ormond Beach, Fla., of an accidental drown- ing. He was a third-year student at the University of Southern Indiana, majoring in art.

He was a member of the Art Club and entered his work in the art show at USI.

He specialized in pots, ceramics and computer graphic design and was a photographer. Surviving are his parents, Deborah and Mark Weil of St. Joseph, Mich.; a brother, John of Austin, Texas; grandparents, Vivian E. Ruder and Robert Weil Sr., both of Evansville; and a great-grandmother.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Donald Dilger officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with memorial services at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh Community Foundation for the Jeremy A. Weil Memorial Art Scholarship Fund.

Ann Piechock

Ann E. Piechock, 77, of Boardman, Ohio, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio, of respiratory failure.

She attended Purdue University and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. In Boardman, she was a member of the altar and rosary societies at St. Charles Catholic Church, the Boardman Democratic Women's Club and Boardman Widow/Widowers Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Patti Ann Mullins of Youngstown; a son, Michael of Boardman; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Patrick A., died in 1986.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Rossi Bros. Funeral Home in Boardman, continuing at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, with burial in Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Dillman

Robert Glenn Dillman, 56, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at home of cancer. He formerly worked at Holsclaw Bros. and Continental Grain.

He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Surviving are two daughters, Monica Martin and Robin Tipitt, both of Morganfield, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Lisa Powers of Evansville; three sons, Daniel, Michael and Stephen, all of Evansville; a sister, Rose Abernathy of Evansville; two brothers, Daniel and Dennis, both of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; and caregivers, Brian and Lonna Fredrick, both of Evansville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, the Rev. Ted Tempel officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Bertha Franklin

Bertha E. Franklin, 96, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in New- burgh. She was a Pink Lady at Welborn Hospital for 25 years.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and the American Blind Association and a former member of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala.

Surviving are a daughter, Ruby Maxwell of Evansville; three grandchildren, Mary Barr and John David and Robert K. Maxwell; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

Her husband, Carl H., died in 1964.

Graveside services will be at 11:15 a.m. Monday at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Homes East Chapel, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., the Rev. Don Moore officiating, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Johns-Rideout Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Blind Association.
