LILLIAN VAVRA

Lillian "Mommy" Vavra, 65, of Liberal, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Nov. 10, 1937, to Clyde and Nellie Pharris in Colome, S.D.

She married John V. Varva Nov. 4, 1961, in Winner, S.D. He survives.

She worked as a custodian in Guymon Public Schools, and she was also a homemaker.

She was a member of Lutheran Church in Winner.

She had been a Liberal resident for 10 years.

Other survivors include, three sons, Milo R. Ptacek Jr. and wife, Elise, Winner, Travis W. Vavra, El Paso, Texas, and wife, Lori R. McDaniel, Park Hill, Okla., and John Vavra Jr., Park Hill; one daughter, Arlene Crist and husband, Ron, Tyrone, Okla.; and two sisters, Bernice Holthus and husband, Alvin, Hamill, S.D., and Grace Sattler, Little Rock, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernard and Eldon Pharris; three sisters, Ailleen Rudolph, Virginia Zeigler, and Muriel Pharris.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ken Hathaway presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.

HULDA FRIESEN

MEADE ญญ Hulda Friesen died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Minneola District Hospital in Minneola.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church in Meade.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

IMOGENE H. MEYERS

MEADE ญญ Imogene Hope Meyers, 82, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Minneola.

She was born Jan. 25, 1921, to William and Grace (Danks) Schmoker in Beaver County, Okla.

She married Elmer Meyers on May 31, 1941, in Wichita. He died Dec. 14, 1972.

She graduated from Meade High School in 1938.

She was a homemaker and rancher.

She was a lifetime resident of Meade County.

Survivors include, three sons, Larry D. Meyers and wife, LaDonna, Meade, Wayne W. Meyers and wife, Elaine, Bedford, Texas, and Dale L. Meyers and wife, Lou, Dodge City; one sister, Fannie Judy, Beaver, Okla.; six grandchildren, Troy, Todd, Brian, Jeff, Jeff Meyers, and Deborah Meyers Miller; and six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Mackenzie, Logan, Kincaid Meyers, Brennan and Brayden Miller.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Meade with the Rev. Lynn Spencer presiding.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

ASHLYNN L. VYORAL

KENDALL ญญ Ashlynn L'Chole Vyoral, 16-months-old, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born Nov. 1, 2001, to Stacy Vyoral in Kingwood, Texas.

Survivors include her mother; grandparents Charlie Vyoral, Dayton, Texas, Shelley Brown, Kendall; great-grandmother, Margaret Vyoral, Dayton, Texas; one uncle, C.J. Vyoral, Hardin, Texas; numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Satanta with the Pastor Ray Tweed presiding.

Burial will be at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

DELPHINE L. TURNER

ELKHART ญญ Delphine "Annie" L. Turner, 79, died Sunday March 2, 2003, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born Oct. 11, 1923, to Charles and Elizabeth (Hatzenbuehler) Sloan in Stafford County.

She married Jesse "Jack" Turner on Feb. 2, 1947, in Elkhart. He survives.

She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1941, and later earned her emergency teaching certificate.

She worked as a schoolteacher, at the Elkhart Motel, and was a homemaker and farmer.

Her hobbies included embroidery, and working crossword puzzles.

She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and the Alter Society, both of Elkhart.

She had been an Elkhart resident since 1939.

Other survivors include, one nephew, Donald Howell, Elkhart; one niece, Anita Strothman, Elkhart; one brother, Charles Sloan, Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Loretta Howell, and Margaret Forbes, both of Elkhart; numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Vigil and rosary services will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart.

Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart.

Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

ASHLYNN L. VYORAL

KENDALL ญญ AshLynn L'Chole Vyoral, 16-months-old, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born Nov. 1, 2001, to Stacy Vyoral in Kingwood, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Satanta with the Pastor Ray Tweed presiding.

Burial will be at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

RAY E. JOHNSON

DODGE CITY ญญ Ray Ernest Johnson, 96, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Home in Dodge City.

He was born July 27, 1906, to Clarence Madison and Nellie Bessie (Goff) Johnson in Montgomery County.

He moved with his parents from Minneola to Gray County in August of 1916.

He married Alice Thirsk June 26, 1927 at Winfield. She died June 4, 1993.

He worked as a custodian for USD 476 at the Copeland Grade School for 28 and one half years. He was a farmer for many years.

He is a former Copeland resident.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent and assistant superintendent for several years.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Gene Johnson and wife, Hester, of Aubrey, Texas; four daughters, Phyllis Raydene Ford and husband, Jim, Fruita, Colo., Catherine Dalton, Barling, Ark., Shirley Anne Richardson, Dodge City, and Janice Joanne Zechner and husband, Carl, Ventura, Calif.; one sister, Mary Marcella Sheperd, Overland Park; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ray Ernest Jr.; and two sisters, Vada Wilson and Verna Lucille Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Copeland, with the Rev. Warren Cico presiding.

Burial will follow at the Copeland Cemetery in Copeland.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

A memorial has been established for either the United Methodist Church or the Copeland Cemetery. Memorials may be left at Dunham Drilling in Copeland or may be mailed to the Montezuma Funeral Home, P.O. Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

ALFRED E. SHADDY

Alfred E. Shaddy, 79, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness with Barry Hagerman presiding.

Memorials are suggested to Worldwide Missionary Work of Jehovah's Witness or charity of donor's choice in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.
