ROBERT D. KIDD

GEORGETOWN, Texas ญญ Robert Dean Kidd, 67, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, in Temple, Texas.

He was born March 11, 1936.

He married Caroline 44 years ago. She survives.

He had worked as a petroleum engineer, retiring after 40 years in the industry , and was living in Sun City in Georgetown the past four years.

He was a graduate of Liberal High School and Kansas State University.

In recent years, he was devoted to missionary work in South America, especially in Bolivia.

He was a member of Wellspring United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

His hobbies included golf and photography.

Other survivors include one son, Robert Kidd Jr. and wife, Laney; and one daughter, Christine Kidd Factor and husband, Rick.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today at Wellspring United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Cememtery in Liberal with the Rev. Ken Hathaway presiding

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to Rainbows Program, Family Outreach of Williamson County, 171 Texas Dr., Round Rock, TX 78664.

BERNICE R. KING

ULYSSES ญญ Bernice Roberts King, 89, Ulysses, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born July 17, 1913, to Leslie and Gertrude (Hixon) Roberts in Syracuse.

She married Leslie D. King July 7, 1934, in Syracuse. He died May 25, 1995.

She attended schools in Syracuse, graduating from Syracuse High School.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church, and Order of the Eastern Star, both in Ulysses.

Survivors include one son, Charles King and wife, Jeanne, Castle Rock, Calif.; one daughter, Marilyn Randle and husband, Jim, Ulysses; one brother, Jack Roberts of Syracuse; three sisters, Pearl Rector and Grace Helm, both of Syracuse; and Phoebe Reid, Garden City; six grandchildren, Cameron Randle, Barbara Haskel, Beverly Roth, Jeffrey Randle, Chad King, and Kara Hart; and seven great-grandchildren, Rachel Roth, Jordan and Carter Haskel, Charles Hart, and Tyler, Mathew and Brandon King.

She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis King; two brothers, Marvin Roberts and Lewis Roberts; and one sister, Ethel Tope.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.

Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

MARY R. BARR

MONTEZUMA ญญ Mary Ruth Barr, 92, Montezuma, and former Dodge City resident, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

POLLY HUNT PIERCE

SOLANO BEACH, Calif. ญญ Polly Hunt Pierce died SUnday, April 20, 2003, at her home in Solano Beach.

Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Hunt, early settlers of Liberal and owners of Hunt Motor Co.

She graduated from Liberal High School and attended the California Institute of Design.

She worked as an interior and fashion designer, and worked as a representative of Harry Winston Jewelry of New York City.

She was a charter member of, and served on the board of, the Who's Who International.

She supported several charities, and became a founding member of the Wall of Tolerance Society.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula Chante Cope, Malibu, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Britton and husband, Warner, Mobile, Ala., and Laura (Lorene) Hunt Baldwin, Dallas; and cousins Wanda and Gene Hall, Liberal.

A private ceremony was conducted at the El Camino Sorrento Valley Chapel in San Diego.

RAYMOND E. FORT

ULYSSES ญญ Raymond Eugene Fort, 75, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at his home in Ulysses.

He was born June 27, 1927, to Clifford Floyd Sr. and Ida Louise (Dotts) Fort in Stafford County.

He married Joan Allison Platt June 19, 1959, in Tehran, Iran. She survives.

He was an Eagle Scout, and attended Hays University for one tear. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Kansas STate University. He earned a Ph.D from Cornell University in Agriculture Economics.

He served as first director of Rock Springs 4-H Camp, and was very active in 4-H.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Rotary Club, Johnson Bible Study, Intellectuals, Federal Land Bank and Trust, chairman of board for Committee on Aging, Cornell Alumni Association, and the CHarles B. Hart American Legion Post No. 79.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.

He spent more than 40 years overseas with the Ford Foundation, Rockerfeller Foundation, Department of State, United Nations, and as a private consultant.

He spent last summer working on reestablishing the postwar agriculture economy in Afghanistan.

He was fluent in Farsi, Dari, Arabic, and Hindustani.

Other survivors include two sons, John Clifford Fort and wife, Elizabeth, Cincinnati, and Sgt. Som Prasad Fort and wife, Jin, Ft. Lewis, Wash.; two daughters, Cynthia Louis Fort, Derby, Vt., and Sandra Fort Smith and husband, John, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, William Thayne Fort and wife, Dorothy, Hays; one sister Sarah Mae Finch and husband, Jack, Bartlesville, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Fort and Lynda Fort, both of Ulysses; six grandchildren, Alex, Lynne and Scott Fort, Steven and Alison Raye Smith, and Joan Rose Fort; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Clifford Floyd Fort Jr. and Allen Earl Fort.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Revs. Bill Harrold and Don Calderwood presiding.

Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, with Military Rites by Charles B. Hart American Legion Post No. 70.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Raymond Fort Memorial Fund for Education in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

ELVERNA J. COLBORN

ELKHART ญญ Elverna Joy "Joyce" Colborn, 82, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.

She was born Nov. 6, 1920, to Leo and Agnes Marie (Turner) Guymon in Texas County, Okla.

She married J.L. "Bud" Colborn May 4, 1940, in Dalhart, Texas. He died Jan. 5, 1985.

She attended Triumph Country School in Texas County in Oklahoma.

She moved to Cimarron County, Okla., in 1950. She moved back to the Elkhart area in 1965.

She was a homemaker.

Her hobbies included spending time with family and friends, gardening and baking.

She was a member of the Liberal Congregation of Jehovah Witness.

Survivors include, two sons, Gary Colborn and wife, Sass, Kandall, Jerry Colborn and wife, Chris, Raton, N.M.; one daughter, Janice Thrash and husband, Tim, Boise City, Okla.; one brother; Jack Guymon and wife, Lorena, Keyes, Okla.; one sister, Phyllis Tucker, Elkhart; six grandchildren, Dara Vaughan and husband, Stephen, Tara Brister and husband, David, Shanna Cruz and husband, Ernie, Dustin Colborn and wife, Monica, Brandon Colborn and wife, Angie, and Christie Colborn; seven great-grandchildren, Jaylan Cruz, Keagen Vaughan, Sawyer Vaughan, Rodie Brister, Kaden Colborn, Rorie Brister, and Kambrian Colborn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart with Mr. Richard Stiver presiding.

Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart.

Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Morton County Care Center or the donor's choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Elkhart.

MARY R. BARR

MONTEZUMA ญญ Mary Ruth Barr, 92, Montezuma, and former Dodge City resident, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.

She was born Dec. 24, 1910, in Paris, Ark.

She married Vern G. Barr in 1940 in Dodge City. He died in 1976.

She was a CNA and worked at St. Anthony's Hospital in Dodge City for 20 years.

Her hobbies included watching T.V., reading, the radio, sewing, embroidering, crafts, pets, and visiting with family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert D. Barr and wife, Marilyn, Sparta, N.J., Cecil Leroy Barr and wife, Pat, Vinita, Okla., and Tommy W. Barr, Joplin, Mo.; one daughter, Nona Foskuhl and husband John, Montezuma; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Morningside Community Church in Montezuma with the Minister Lyn Hansen presiding.

Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.
