OWEN COMPTON

Owen Compton, 38, of Birmingham, Ala. passed away June 6, 2003, near Oklahoma City, Okla., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Lary Owen Compton was born March 19, 1963, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of Larry and Aneta Epperson Compton. He attended school in Liberal, graduating from Liberal High School with the Class of 1983.

Owen attended Mississippi State University, graduating with a bachelor degree in Profession Golf Management and Business Administration.

On June 16, 1990, Owen was united in marriage to Rhonda Howell in Albermarle, North Carolina.

Owen worked for Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando, Fla., and at numerous golf courses in Arizona, Mississippi, Georgia and Louisiana before moving to Birmingham, Ala., in 2002. He was Director of Golf at Highland Park Golf Club in Birmingham.

His memberships include Paylor United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala.; the PGA, and Mississippi State Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Compton and his daughter, Grace, both of the home; his parents, Larry and Aneta Compton of Liberal; his two sisters, Amy and her husband, Craig Johnson, and their two kids ,Shelby and Blake, of Kingwood, Texas, and Gay and husband, Rod Riley, and their son, Cameron, of Liberal; his parents-in-law, Conley and Phyllis Howell, of Albermarle, N.C., and brother-in-law, Dean Howell and his wife, Katie, of Greensboro, N.C.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Dillard and Elmo Compton, and Howard and Lila Epperson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal with Rev. Ken Hathaway officiating.

Interment will be in the Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone, Okla., directed by the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.

Memorials are suggested to the Owen Compton Memorial and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Okla. 73945.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Paylor United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala.

BOBBIE L. SCOTT

SATANTA ­­ Bobbie Lea Scott, 80, Satanta, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.

She was born May 4, 1923, to Elmer B. and Iva Edna (Oslin) Wallace in Poteau, Okla.

She married Ernest E, Scott Jan. 15, 1941, in Poteau. He died March 10, 1999.

She moved from Durant, Okla., to Satanta in June of 1965.She was a retired school teacher, teaching grades 5 and 6 at Satanta Grade School for 20 years.

She was a member of the Kansas Teachers' Association and a member of United Methodist Church in Satanta, and Methodist Women.

Her hobbies included reading, travelling and cooking for her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca "Becky" LaFever and husband, Bernie, Ulysses, and Penelope "Penny" Ferguson and husband, Keith, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Scott Strano and wife, Andrea, DOud Strano and wife, Julie, Jeremy Harwood and fiancé, Holly Patterson, Jason Harwood and wife, Lori, and Jennifer LaFever; four great-grandchildren, Landon Strano, Saydie Strano, Seth Strano, and Tyler Harwood; numerous nephews and nieces; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Diana Raye Strano; one brother, Elmer B. Wallace; and four sisters, Beatrice Scarbrough, Pauline Kennard, Merle Fairfax, and Earline Slate.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Satanta with the Rev. Jeff Miller presiding.

Burial will be at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877, or may be dropped at Shopping Stop True Value.

LAWANDA E. WRIGHT

BERTHOUD, Colo. ­­ LaWanda E. Wright, 81, former Liberal resident, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Berthoud.

She was born June 28, 1921, to Floyd O. and Mabel E. (Hall) Nichols in Forgan, Okla.

SHe married Howard Eugene Wright Feb. 14, 1942. He died Jan. 23, 1988.

She graduated from Forgan High School in 1939, and lived in Liberal for many years, before moving to Silver City, N.M. and later to Berthoud.

She was a member of Derby Hills Baptist Church in Loveland, Colo., and in Martha Fidelis' Sunday School class.

She was also a member of Women on a Mission at First Baptist Church and a member of Whitewater FCE in Silver City. She was a member of Child Evangelism Association of Kansas, and taught elementary children in Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Her hobbies included gardening, crafting jewelry, a rock hound and an avid quilter.

Survivors include two daughters, Anna Fay Harrison and husband, Jack, Silver City, and Elaine Brown and husband, Terry, Berthoud; one brother, Frank Nichols and wife, Marlene, Tyrone, Okla.; one sister, Fern Radcliff, Beaver, Okla.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gene Nichols; and two sisters, Faye Cordes and Vera Adams.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Wyatt Carpenter presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.

The family will greet friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to Child Evangelism Fellowship, Project Goerin in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67905.

DONELLA FORBES

Donella Forbes, 69, Liberal, wife of Bill Forbes, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the Miller Chapel with the Evangelist Ron Suiter presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

RUTH JACOBS

Ruth Jacobs, 78, Liberal, formerly of Hooker, Okla., died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.

Funeral services pending and will be announced by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.

MARY G. BUCK

Mary Gale Buck, 62, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at her residence in Liberal.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

GALE BUCK

Gale Buck, 62, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at her residence in Liberal.

She was born Jan. 24, 1941, to James Ottis and Alta W. (Thorpe) Parrish in Durant, Okla.

She married Marvin W. Buck D.V.M. July 20, 1990, in Liberal. He survives.

She graduated from high school in 1958 from Bokchito, Okla.

She has been a resident of Liberal for the past 35 years. She retired in June of 2002 as Registrar at Seward County Community College. She worked at the college for 22 years.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star No. 104, all in Liberal.

Other survivors include two sons, David Fuller and wife, Deena, Liberal, and Paul Fuller, Wichita; one daughter, Beverly Buchman, Liberal; two brothers, James Parrish, Albuquerque, N.M., and David Parrish, Blue, Okla.; six grandchildren, Megan Buchman, Brooke Buchman, Kari Anne Buchman, Amy Fuller, Jeff Fuller and Kimberly Fuller; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Wendell, Wayne and Bill Parish.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Bokchito with the Rev. Jim Parrish presiding.

Burial will be at Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Seward County Community College in the Shank Humanities Building.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Gale Buck Memorial Fund in care of Seward County Community College Development Foundation, P.O. Box 1137, Liberal, KS, 67905.

MARION MOUSER

CANYON, Texas ­­ Marion Mouser, 78, former Hooker, Okla., resident, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

He was born April 29, 1925, to Leroy and Esther in Hooker, Okla.

He married Lorene Mae Suitor Dec. 14, 1952, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

He attended school in Hooker.

In 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving until 1946. He reentered the navy in 1948 serving during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in 1951. He served on the U.S.S. Almasek and the U.S.S. Guadalupe.

He lived and worked in the oil fields of Hooker. In 1965, he moved to California, where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He retired in 1987. After retiring, he and his wife traveled the country. They moved for a time to Farmington, N.M., and in 2002, they made their home in Canyon.

He was a member of the California Machinist Union.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Armstrong, Sublette; a step-daughter, Mary Franklin and husband, Delbert, of Pennsylvania; two brothers, C.J. Mouser and wife, Lenora, Hooker, and Harlon Mouser and wife, Pat, Wichita; one sister, Letha Davis, Guymon, Okla.; sister-in-law, Alberta Mouser, Garden City; granddaughter, Tammi Armstrong, Canyon; three step-grandchildren, Nelda Butler, Ted Rossman and Robert Gray; two great-grandsons, Kyler and Robert Gray; four step-great-grandchildren, Ashley Southworth, Christopher Black, Breanna and Quinton Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Cleo and Leo Mouser.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hooker Cemetery in Hooker with the Rev. Neville Buchanan presiding.

Arrangements are by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.
