DELANO H. BANISTER

HUGOTON -- Delano H. Banister, 86, a former Liberal resident, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born April 23, 1917, to Lewis F. and Blossom N. (O'Brien) Banister in Little River.

He married Dorothy G. Donnelly Nov. 1, 1936, in Little River. She died April 16, 1996.

He married Barbara N. Long Kallenbach Sept. 14, 1996, in Hugoton. She survives.

He attended school in Little River and farmed for several years before moving to Hugoton in 1952, where he continued farming.

He moved to Liberal in 1959, and worked as a well cement man for Haliburton Energy Services. He retired in 1979.

For many years he drove bus for the Senior Citizens of Liberal and delivered Meals On Wheels. He returned to Hugoton in 1996.

He attended Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, and was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1947 in Liberal.

Other survivors include one son, Daryl Banister and wife, Ellen, Augusta; two step-sons, Ray Kallenbach and wife, Dana, and Darrel Kallenbach and wife, Susan, all of Rolla; two daughters, Janice Bell and husband, E.H., Liberal and Cheryl Handy, of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Barbara Campbell and husband, Dennis, Rolla, and Teresa Brayman and husband, Rick, Houston; daughter-in-law, Neoma Banister, Edmond, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Eldon Banister.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Eric Mason presiding.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Bean Cemetery in Little River.

Arrangements are by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

KEITH L. LEWIS

ROLLA -- Keith L. Lewis, 67, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born March 25, 1936, to Sherman W. and Martha I. (Morgan) Lewis in Morton County.

He married Juanita M. Long July 27, 1997, in Rolla. She survives.

He was a longtime resident of Rolla.

He had been a former manager of Rolla Co-op in Rolla. He had worked as an auto and diesel mechanic for many years.

His hobbies included fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rolla.

Other survivors include four sons, Ricky Lewis, Pawhuska, Okla., Russell Lewis and wife, Joy, and Lylea Allen Powers, all of Hugoton, and Michael Lewis, Kingman; three daughters, Cindy Allan, Sedan, Lori Beth Lewis, Kingman, and T.J. Hull, Rolla; four brothers, Kenneth Lewis, Toronto, Kan., Jack Lewis, Wichita, Jerry Lewis, Enid, Okla., and Larry Lewis, Elk City, Okla.; three sisters, Katherine Condee, Suffolk, Va., Suzie Billings, Crete, Neb., and Rachel Stewart, Friends; nine grandchildren, Chris Lewis, Jessica Allan, Jeremiah Allan, Eriel Lewis, Keshia Lewis, Gage Powers, Kyler Tea Telford, Ovyrten Telford, and Roshea Telford; and one great-granddaughter, Natasha Franks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, LeRoy and Mark Allen Lewis; two brothers, Don and Elvin Lewis; and one sister, Karen Hayzlett.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rolla with the Minister Kenneth Price presiding.

Burial will be at Rolla Cemetery in Rolla.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

Memorials are suggested to Grandchildren's College Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

RUTH JACOBS

Ruth Jacobs, 78, of Liberal, Kansas, formerly of Hooker, Oklahoma, passed away June 12, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

Mildred Ruth was born September 9, 1924, in Guymon, Oklahmoma, the daughter of Lloyd and Pauline Oiler McCants. She attended school in Hardesty, Oklahoma, and graduated high school in California.

On August 18, 1944, in Berkley, California, Ruth was united in marriage to Leonard Jacobs. She worked for many years at the Hooker School Cafeteria, the last 15 years as manager.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hooker; she loved to sew, read and do aerobics.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard, of the home; two daughters, Lenda "Rae" Blain and her husband, Bob, and Nancy Tolento, both of Liberal, Kansas; one sister, Dorothy Ferriera of San Francisco, California; one brother, George McCants of Redding, California; four grandchildren, Ron Blain and his wife, Lisa, of Summer, Washington, Kerri Blain of Wichita, Kansas; Ana-Alicia and Michael Tolento both of Liberal, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Becca Blain and Megan Mayberry, both of Sumner, Washington.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Ronnie LeRoy Jacobs; one sister, Donita; and one brother, Lloyd Jr.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma, with Brother Ron Mimms officiating.

Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker, Oklahoma, directed by the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.

DONALD W. PITTMAN

PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. -- Donald Wayne "Don" Pittman, 65, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at his home near Prairie Grove.

He was born Nov. 2, 1937, to Robert and Cora (Broughton) Pittman in Prairie Grove.

He married Clarice Mefford 45 years ago. She survives.

He was a long-time carpenter and farmer in the Prairie Grove area.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of New Sulphur Free Will Baptist Church in Prairie Grove.

His hobbies included being in the outdoors, all sports and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sons, Sgt. Major Robert Pittman and wife, Yadira, Hawaii, and Larry Pittman and wife, Glenda, Arkansas; one daughter, Karen Oelrich and husband, Larry, Prairie Grove; one sister, Wanda Foster, Farmington, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Erin Staats and husband, John, Cassie Oelrich, Ashley Pittman, Danielle Pittman, Bradley Pittman, Jimmy Sullivent, and AManda Tune and husband, Robin; and three great-grandchildren, James Staats, Cambrey Sullivent and Taylor Tune.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were on Friday, June 13, at New Sulphur Free Will Baptist Church in Prairie Grove.

Burial was at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Prairie Grove, under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove.

JOSHUA M. BARKER

HUGOTON -- Joshua "Josh" Michael Barker, 23, Hugoton, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in a vehicle accident west of Sublette.

He was born Sept. 3, 1979, to Donald and Shirley Birt in Liberal.

He married Destiny Dawn Norton Feb. 23, 2001, in Hugoton. SHe survives.

He moved from Eads, Colo., to Hugoton in 2000.

He worked for Cheyenne Drilling Co., of Garden City, as an oilfield derrick hand.

Other survivors include two sons, David Michael Barker and Lynn Barker, both of Hugoton; his parents, Eads; his grandparents, Jim and Shirley Williams, Rolla, Bill and Christine Norton, Rolla, Ralph Ernest, Ulysses, David and Sharon Carpenter, Pitkin, Colo., Isabelle Martinez, Liberal, Frances Simmons, Hugoton, and Art and Faye Jones, Moscow; three brothers, William Martinez, and Michael Martinez, both of El Dorado, and Carl Birt, Eads; four sisters, Renee McInis, AMarillo, Texas, Jennifer Martinez, El Dorado, Valarie Ibarra, Floyada, Texas, and Nacole Martinez, Liberal; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Pappy Chapman; one sister, Jessie Martinez; and grandparents Hardy Simmons, Cleo Earnest, Bob Barker, Leo Martinez, and Carl and Anna Birt.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will be at Arkalon Cemetery in Seward County.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the Children's Education Fund in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

HARRY E. DAVIS

MOSCOW -- Harry E, Davis, 82, Moscow, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.

He was born Dec. 5, 1920, to Claude D. and Orpha (McCaw) Davis in Moscow.

He married Iona Hall Oct. 16, 1954 , in CLayton, N.M. She survives.

He graduated from Moscow High School in 1938.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a life-time farmer and rancher in Stevens and Seward Counties.

Other survivors include two sons, Wayne Davis and wife, Tava, Brighton, Colo., and Dennis Davis and wife, Peggy, Moscow; one daughter, Terri May and husband, Davis, Moscow; one sister Lillie Smith, Dodge City; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary Chapel in in Liberal with the Rev. Larry Bradford presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal with Military Honors by the Liberal VFW.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to Moscow Baptist Church in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.
