CORA B. MARQUARDT

ELKHART -- Cora B. Marquardt, 75, Elkhart, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in Elkhart.

She was born September 11, 1927, to Arthur and Dora (Cook) Crittenden in Collinsville, Okla.

She married Vernon Leon Marquardt, Sr., on November 24, 1948, in Wellington. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1982

She spent her early years at Collinsville, Okla., where she attended school. She later attended business college at Tulsa, Okla. She has been a resident of Elkhart since 1962.

She worked as a homemaker and secretary.

She took upholstery classes and learned to re-upholster with different types of materials. Her special interests included: painting, bowling, quilting, crocheting, riding motorcycles, and riding in the rodeo.

Survivors include a son, Vernon Leon Marquardt, Jr., Hooker Okla.; one daughter, Carolyne Sue Wright, Amarillo, Tex.; six grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces; and special friend, Bill Lavielle, Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank Crittenden, Elmer Crittenden, and Jim Crittenden; two sisters, Julie Hawkins and Madeline Leonte; and one granddaughter, Jeanette Sue Fain.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garland Funeral Chapel of Elkhart, with Rev. Jim Lavielle presiding.

Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery.

Friends may call today until 8 p.m.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or the Donor's Choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

FLOREINE BUDDE

Floreine Budd, 79, Meade, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.

She was born January 2, 1924, to William and Mary (Hildebrand) Budde in rural Stafford County.

She moved with her parents northwest of Meade in 1927 where she made her home. As a young girl she attended a rural country school near her home. She later graduated from Meade high School After high school, she attended Ottawa University where she received her undergraduate degree.

After her formal education she began her teaching career, teaching at Ingalls, Kismet-Plains, Scott City and at St. Mary's School in Garden City. She retired from teaching after twenty-three years. In 1974 she became a part-time secretary for the First Baptist Church in Meade. Later in 1977 she became a part-time librarian's assistant at the Meade Public Library in Meade. She retired from the library on December 31, 1991.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meade serving as a Sunday school teacher and was active on several boards within the church. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women's Ministries.

Survivors include two cousins, Louise Budde Delaurentis, Ithaca, NY; and Nelda B. Kubat, Ithaca, NY.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Meade with Rev. Harry Fink presiding.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery under the direction of Fidler-Orme Mortuary of Meade.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler, Meade, KS., 67864.

MARY KATHERYN DICK

CHENEY ญญ Mary Katheryn (Sharp) Dick, 60, Liberal, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center,Wichita.

She was born Nov. 11, 1942, to Cecil and Catherine (Warren) Sharp in Enid, Okla.

She married Robert G. Dick Feb. 21,1960, in Stafford, Texas. He survives.

She worked as a Baptist Church Secretary for many years.

Other survivors include one brother, Jim Gillespie, Bellingham, Wash.; one son Robert Jr., Cheney; two daughters, Marlene Rockwell, Lawrence and Annette LaRose, Jacksonville, Fla.; and 2 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheney with Pastor Kenneth Kaufmann presiding.

Friends may visit until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lanterman Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be sent to Victory in the Valley, 917 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67214.

RALPH R. WOODS

Ralph R. Woods, 90, Saturday June 21, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.

He was born Aug 4, 1912.

He married his wife Fay Sept. 1937 in Baca County, Texas. She preceded him in death.

He worked as a welder and built a drilling business.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Woods and wife, Bonnie, Laredo, Texas, and Sam Woods and wife, Jennifer, Sacramento Calif.; one sister, May Mountain, Lamar, Co.; one daughter Patty Higgins and husband, Bob, Plains; 10 grandchildren, Sherri Higgins and daughter Lily, Skippack, Pa; Rick and John Higgins, Grain Valley, Mo.; Brad Higgins and son Bill, Forgan, Okla.; Jonie and Bob Hart, Gillette, Wyo.; Mike and Marie Higgins and their children Carter and Grace, Olathe, Wendy and Robert Cannady and their children Clint and Caitlin, Culleoka, Tenn.; Skip and Maria Woods, Laredo, Texas; Alissa and Alanna Woods, Denver, Colo.

Memorial services were June 26 at First Baptist Church, Springfield, Colo. with Max Bowlin presiding.

L. MARIE RANDLES

ULYSSES -- L. Marie Randles, 83, Ulysses, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born June 29, 1919, to Leeman Edward and Hattie Maine (Trafton) Smith in Grant County.

She married James Thomas Randles July 5, 1935, in Johnson. He died Jan. 28,1985.

Her early years were spent in Kansas and Colorado. She moved back to Ulysses in 1948. She was an avid bingo and card player. She enjoyed attending and supporting her family at numerous sporting events including ball games, 4-H and rodeos. She owned Randles Restaurant for 15 years, was a school cook and worked at Gray and Rosel.

Survivors include one son, Sammie Randles, Sublette; three daughters, Verna Randles, Jessie Nickerson and Betty McCauley, all of Ulysses; one brother, Henry (Hank) Smith, Ulysses; one sister, Arlene Meyer, Ulysses; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; two brothers, George Adrian Smith and Leeman Chalmers (Jack) Smith; a grandson-in-law, Bryan Wilson; and a great-grandson, Nathan.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.

Burial will be at the Ulysses Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Donor's Choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

TONY LEE BRESSLER

GUYMON ญญ Tony Lee Bressler, 43, Guymon, died Wednesday in Dallas, Texas, from injuries sustained in a work accident.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Straight Christian Church in Straight, Okla. under the direction of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Kaufmann presiding.

JOHN ERNEST GETCHELL

SUBLETTE ญญ John Ernest Getchell, 70, Sublette, died Friday at his home in rural Sublette.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.

CLOYD D. HAWKS, SR.

GOODLAND -- - Cloyd D. Hawks, Sr., 85, Goodland, died Thursday at Goodland Regional Medical Center.

He was born January 4, 1918, to Vincent O. and Deesa (Linnell) Hawks in Norton County. They preceded him in death.

He married Clara Fern Wilson on August 31, 1941 in St. Francis.

He moved with his family to Sherman County in 1925. He attended rural school in Sherman County.

He farmed until moving to Goodland in 1948. He was a carpenter and retired as construction superintendent for Rhoads Construction Company.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Goodland.

He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. In 1981 he received the "Excellence in Construction" award by Ossman and Associates Architects of Topeka.

Survivors include brother, Henry Hawks, Goodland; three sons, Dale Hawks and wife Bonnie, Goodland; Dallas Hawks and wife Donna, Rydal, Ga.; Vincent Hawks and wife Jani of Powder Springs, Ga; his wife; four sisters, Beulah McClung, Goodland; Lelah Sweitzer and husband Jay, Greeley, Colo.; Ina Mae Gwin and husband Glen, Longmont, Colo.; Zona Price and husband Dale, Goodland; two daughters, Meredith Farr and husband, Ken, Leoti; Karen Amos and husband Danny, Liberal; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Orville Hawks, Lowell Hawks and Lyle Hawks; sister, Violet Roeder Lampe; and daughter, Clara Evelyn Hawks.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Goodland, with Pastor Janet Hernandez officiating.

Internment will follow at Goodland Cemetery under the direction of Koons Funeral Home, Goodland.

Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel in Goodland today from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., and at the church before the service.

Memorials may be designated to First United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 North Main, Goodland, KS, 67735-1555.

ELLA (BIVINS) HALFMAN

Ella Bivins Halfman died Saturday July 5, 2003, at the Life Care Center of Aurora in Aurora, Colo.

She was born to Charles and Edith (Jones) Bivins December 11, 1912, near Canton.

She married Earl Halfman in 1933. He preceded her in death.

She attended school in Liberal and graduated from the Greeley County High School in Tribune. She received a B.A. Degree in Education from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla.

She began her teaching career in a one room country school near Tribune. She was principal of a school in Horace. She taught in Liberal at McKinley and Garfield school until she retired in 1976.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal. She was a also a member of Circle #3 WE, Liberal Authors Club, KNEW and NEA Teachers Associations.

Her hobbies included remodeling homes, genealogy, oil painting and writing children's stories.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Pellican, Sioux Falls, S.D; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Raymond; two sisters, Corene Berg and Margaret Murphy.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberal Cemetery with Rev. John Andrews presiding. Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
