SIDNEY CHARLES ROBINSON

Sidney Charles Robinson, 93, of Liberal, Kansas died August 23, 2003, in North Platte, Nebraska.

He was born January 1, 1910, in Hartpury Gloucester, England to Albert John Robinson and Emily Jane Hartle Robinson. He immigrated to Canada in 1912 with his parents. His father, a professional soldier and Grenadier Guard at Buckingham Palace became the ranking officer in the Canadian Mounted Rifles. His father was called to service in WWI and was killed in France in 1916. He then immigrated to Florida with his mother in 1921 and to Gordon, Nebraska in 1931, working on the Dorsey Ranch south of Gordon, Nebraska.

In March 1942, he joined the Army and was assigned to the 125th Combat Engineers and was one of the first to move in to Guadalcanal to relieve the Marines. He was injured there and spent the next year in various hospitals in the U.S. until his Honorable Discharge in December 1943. He was a Lifetime Member of The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On January 3, 1944, he married Edythe Evelyn Oliver at Gordon, Nebraska. They had one child, Albert Edwin Robinson. In 1945, he became a U.S. citizen. They moved to Anderson, Indiana to attend Anderson Theology College and he was ordained a minister in the Church of God in 1949. He later was the pastor or associate pastor of churches in Huron, South Dakota, Brewster, Nebraska, Cozad, Nebraska and Texhoma, Oklahoma. He moved to Liberal, KS in 1957 to become Sexton of the Liberal Cemetery and associate pastor of the South Side Church of God. In 1966, he became a member of the Friends Church in Liberal, Kansas and remained a member until his death.

He married Lillie Florence Reiswig in 1984.

He spent nearly his entire life studying the bible and took great pleasure in helping others reach an understanding of the scriptures. He taught bible study classes from 1928 until 1998, only retiring due to loss of hearing. His entire life revolved around his church and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John Christopher Robinson, and his first wife Edythe Evelyn Oliver Robinson.

Following considerable health problems, he moved to North Platte, Nebraska to be near his son and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie of De Soto, Texas; a brother, Leslie Vautrin of Apache Junction, Arizona; a son, Albert E. (Alice) Robinson of North Platte, Nebraska; a step-daughter, Donetta Kay (Stanford) Jech of De Soto, Texas; and one grand-daughter, Amy Lynn Robinson-Good, of Plano, Texas.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Friends Church, Liberal with the Reverend Scott Nilsen presiding. Military honors will be given by Ft. Riley Honor Guard and burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to the Friends Church of Liberal, Kansas.

BRUCE ALVIN "FROG" MILLER

Bruce Alvin "Frog" Miller, 71, died Saturday August 23, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 18, 1931, to Horace and Opal (Bruce) Miller in Hooker, Okla. She survives.

He married Marjorie Stam on June 3, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was a longtime Liberal resident. He worked for Panhandle Eastern for 20 years and worked for Oxy for several years before retiring.

He was a member of the Western Avenue Church of Christ.

Other survivors include four daughters, Cindy Dunn and husband, Brad, Park City, Laura Stafford and husband, Kenny, Liberal, Julie Lash and husband John, Liberal and Melissa Armendariz and husband, Rey, Scott City; six grandchildren, Jessica Lash, Christopher Lash, Lucas Lash, Lindsay Stafford, Stone Stafford, Cody Dunn.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Micheal Bruce Miller and one grandson, Tanner Stafford.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Western Avenue Church of Christ with Richard Dent presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Bruce Miller Memorial Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

WALTER WAYMAN "BUCK" BILBRO

Johnson ญญ Walter Wayman "Buck" Bilbro, 90, died Sunday August 24, 2003, at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson.

He was born March 20, 1913, to James D. and Beulah (Starkey) Bilbro in Forgan, Okla.

He married Hazel Barcmore March 8, 1945 in Syracuse. She died January 16, 1983.

He graduated high school in Forgan, Okla. and moved to Johnson in 1938. In 1942, he entered the Army and served during World War 2. He was then honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Johnson and farmed until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and VFW both in Johnson.

Survivors include two sisters Hazel Polly, Tucson, Ariz., and Maxine Booth, Siloam Springs, Ark.; many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by three siblings.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Reverend Glenn Fogo presiding.

Burial with military rites by the Johnson VFW will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave. Johnson, KS 67855.

THOMAS J. "T.J." SMITH JR.

PASADENA, Calif. ญญ Thomas J. "T.J." Smith Jr., 74, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, in Pasadena, Calif.

He was born Oct. 7, 1903, to Thomas J. and Mary Belle (Hanner) Smith in Liberal.

He married Ada E. Smith. She preceded him in death.

He then married Alyce Lockwood Smith. She also preceded him in death.

He attended Liberal schools, Southwestern College in Winfield and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1925. He helped with the family business, Smith's Drug Store, one of Liberal's first businesses which is now H &R Pharmacy.

He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Survivors include one son, Thomas E. Smith, Montecito, Calif.; one grandson, Micheal J. Smith and wife, Mary Ann, Pasadena, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Sean Michael Smith and Cinnia Alyce Smith, Pasadena, Calif.; six nieces, Denise Hindle and husband, John, Lewiston, N.Y., Mary Hughes and husband, Ron, Toronto, Judy Vella, Toronto, Lindy Deckert and husband, Gary, Orillia, Onatario, Pat Ostrow and husband, David, Vancouver, Nancy S. Allen and husband, Ray, Liberal; two nephews, John T. Smith and wife, Sue, Liberal, and Paul Hickey, Toronto; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Roy E. Smith and grandson Thomas J. Smith III.

Graveside services will be at a later date at Liberal Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Thomas J. and Mary Belle Smith Memorial Scholarship at Southwestern College, 100 College Street, Winfield, KS 67156.

Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

RALPH L. LOFLAND

Ralph L. Lofland, 75, died Monday, August 25, 2003 at his home in Liberal.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later by Miller Mortuary.

ROBERT R. "BOB" COX

PLAINS ญญ Robert R. "Bob" Cox, 46, died Monday, August 25, 2003, at the Meade District Hospital, in Meade.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced later by Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

JAMES G. CRAM

GALENA ญญ James G. Cram, 67, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, Joplin, Mo.

He was born Oct. 29, 1935, to Clyde and Lula (Collier) Cram in Galena.

He married Rayma L. Morton March 1, 1956, in Galena. She survives.

He graduated from Galena High School in 1953. He returned to Galena in 1995, from Liberal, where he had lived for 18 years. He was a dispatcher for trucking companies, last working for Yellow Transit in Liberal. He also owned and operated Bargain Center II in Liberal for nine years. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.

His hobbies included antiques, reading and cooking.

Other survivors include five sons, James M. Cram and wife, Ellen, Kansas City, Mo., Mark Cram and wife, Sandy, San Antonio, Texas, Darin Cram and wife, Cindy, Parkville, Mo., Daryl Cram and wife, MaryAnn, Augusta, and Duane Cram and wife, Kelly, Riverton; one sister, Betty Allen, Neosho, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Joshua, Kelly, Jay, Brad, Erica, Martin, Zachary, Lindsay, Chelsea, Makenzie, Ashley and Colby; and three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan and Hunter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Cram and two sisters, Wilma Chester and Thelma Fanning.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lowell Cemetery in Lowell with the Reverend Wes Davis preciding.

Friends may visit from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena.

Memorials are suggested to Council House Friends Church in care of Derfelt's Funeral Home in Galena.

BESSIE UNRUH

MONTEZUMA, -- Bessie Unruh, 97, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron where she had been a resident.

She was born Aug. 3, 1906, to Isaac and Lena (Jantz) Unruh in Durham.

She married Jacob P. Unruh on May 14, 1925, in Cimarron. He died in 1982.

She moved to Montezuma with her parents in 1913. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the New Jerusalem Church in Montezuma.

Survivors include one son, Glenn "Curly" Unruh and wife, Joan, Montezuma; two grandchildren, Leslie G. Unruh and and grandaughter-in-law, Karen, and Beverly Ann Unruh; one great-grandson, Clinton Jacob Unruh; one sister, Alrena Tucker, Copeland and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Beatrice Unruh; four brothers, Isam, Ralph, Ernest and Winifred Unruh; and three sisters, Leeva Tuxhorn, Rica Friesen and Leona Schmitt.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Montezuma with the Reverend Gene Eshleman and the Reverend Orlando Jantz presiding.

Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Montezuma Funeral Home.

JASON HICKEY

Jason Hickey, 23, Liberal, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at NW Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

He was born Feb. 3, 1980 to Mike and Linda White Hickey in Liberal.

He attended schools in Tyrone, Okla., Woodward, Okla., and graduated from Lavern Oklahoma High School in Lavern. He worked in the Oklahoma and Kansas oilfield for the past several years.

Survivors include his father, Mike Hickey and companion, Patricia Gates, Liberal; and mother, Linda White, Garden City; two brothers, Joshua and Timothy Hickey, Liberal; two sisters, Stephanie and Trinette Hickey, Liberal; his maternal grandparents, Dean and Rita White, Tyrone, Okla.; nephews, Prestin Archer and Quinton Hickey and nieces Ashlye Readon and Aspin Archer.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tyrone Baptist Church with the Reverend Stanley Lehnert presiding.

Burial will be at Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone.

Friends may call at Miller Mortuary until 8 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
