ARLENE MCDANIEL

Arlene McDaniel, 74, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born June 27, 1929 in Erie, Pa. to Jerry and Sarah (Johnson) Carlson.

She married Leo "Short" Willis McDaniel Sept. 15, 1946, at Reno, Nev. He survives.

She lived in Liberal since 1955, moving from Woodward, Okla.

She formerly worked as a nurse for Epworth Hospital at Southwest Medical Center and also did private nursing.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She was a sunday school teacher and a Caravan leader for many years.

Other survivors include two sons, Leo McDaniel and wife, Shirley, Liberal, Danny McDaniel , Liberal; two daughters, Nancy Taylor and husband, Jerry, Wichita, Shirley Milbourn and husband, Jerry, Sidney, Ohio; one brother, Ted Carlson, Scott Valley, Calif.; three sisters, Evelyn Ferro, San Jose, Calif., Nancy Baldi, Redding, Calif., Joann Sandburg, Redding, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Jerret Milbourn, Jason Milbourn, J.D. Taylor, Pete Taylor, Jared McDaniel, Ginger Knudsen, Andrea Taylor, Cara McDaniel, Amber McDaniel, and Sarah Milbourn; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Earl Carlson and Duane Carlson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Liberal with her son, Leo McDaniel, and the Reverend Jim Mather presiding.

Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie View Cemetery in Woodward, Okla.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, with family to greet friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the First Church of the Nazarene-Caravans in care of the Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.

ROY W. LONG

ELKHART -- Roy W. Long, 88, died Wednesday Dec. 3, 2003, at Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was born to Alanso and Nora L. (Moore) Long March 9, 1915 at Cosmos, Okla.

He married Edna F. Crump Nov. 17, 1939. She died March 1, 1997.

He joined the United States Navy where he became an aircraft mechanic.

He spent his early years in Elkhart. He spent two years in Alaska, and five years in Boise, Idaho. He later moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. where he has been a resident ever-since.

He was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by one son, Frank Long, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Frank "Bud" Long, Elkhart; one sister, Alyce Trapp, Dent, Minn.; 11 grand-children; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart with the Pastor Frank Lynch presiding.

Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Elkhart Area Veterans Honor Guard Post No. 3162.

Friends may call the Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Elkhart Morton County Fire Dept. or the Kim Tucker Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box, 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

CHARILIE DAVIS

SHAMROCK, Texas -- Charlie Davis, 70, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003.

He was born March 25, 1933, in Lamar, Colo, to Paul and Hanna Mae Creed Davis.

He married Sherry Cammarn Aug. 31, 1978. She survives.

He was a postal employee and lived in Shamrock, Texas since 1991.

He was a veteran, having served in the Korean conflict.

Other survivors include two sons, Paul Davis, Hutchinson; Ryan Davis, Amarillo, Texas; two daughters, Kendra Thomason, Elkhart; Randi Davis, Amarillo, Texas; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Allan Davis.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday Dec. 7, 2003, at Calvary Christian Fellowship in Shamrock,Texas with the Reverend Joe G. Jernigan presiding.

WAYNE J. JORDAN

Wayne J. Jordan, 86, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1917, to Charles and Effie Hutchinson Jordan in Protem, Mo.

He married Erma M. "PeeWee" Abbott Aug. 2, 1946, in Yaleville, Ark. She died May 7, 1986.

He came to Liberal in 1947, working at Light Milling and Grain, and Beech Aircraft.

He retired from Halls Construction.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was a Wold War II veteran.

He was a member of the Veterans Foreign Wars Lane Day Post No. 3166 in Liberal.

He is survived by one son, Charlie Jordan and wife, Connie, Liberal; one daughter, Nita Edwards and husband, Mike, Garden City; one brother, Clifford Jordan, Calif.; six sisters, Johnie Ingram, Dugginsville, Mo.; Flossie Shaffner and husband, Clyde, Davenport, Okla., Thersia Morson and husband, Jimmy, Oklahoma City, Okla., Selva Caruthers and husband, Harold, Davenport, Okla., Elva Weeks and husband, Banks, Davenport, Okla.; Shirley Weaver, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Chapel with the Reverend Rex Petty presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fort Riley Honor guard.

Friends may call the Miller Mortuary until 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lane Post No. 3166 in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 North Lincoln, Liberal KS 67905.

VIOLA J. LEEPER

HUGOTON -- Viola J. Leeper, 93, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.

She was born June 24, 1910, to John and Amanda (Burrows) Patterson in Hanley, Saskatchewan, Canada.

She married Lee R. Leeper in 1926. He died in 1965.

After getting married she and her husband moved to Pueblo, Colo. then back to Hugoton in 1932. She then lived in Garden City from 1936 until 1967. She moved back to Hugoton in 1967 and lived there for two years before moving to South Fork, Colo. She moved into the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton before her death. She was a homemaker.

She attended the First Assembly Of God Church in Hugoton.

Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, knitting and reading.

Survivors include four sons, Richard Leeper and wife, Betty, Hugoton, Marvin Leeper and wife, Sharon, South Fork, Colo., Donald Leeper, Hugoton, and Billy Leeper and wife, Toots, Garden City; four daughters, Pyllis La Coursiere and husband, Roland, Wichita, Evelyn Yardley, Hugoton, Shirley Busby, Garden City, and Anita Wright, Grand Juction, Colo.; 37 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Edward Leeper; one daughter, Marjorie Olson; her parents; one granddaughter, Rita Kay Leeper; one great-grandson, Justin Mantzkey.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly Of God Church in Hugoton with the Reverend Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

HAROLD J. SCHILTZ

SELDEN -- Harold J. Schiltz, 86, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.

He was born Sept. 19, 1917, to Joseph Schiltz and Elizabeth (Schlageck) Schiltz in the Angelus-Menio area.

He married Edna Becker Jan. 7, 1947 in Logan. She survives.

He attended school in Angelus.

He was a custom harvester, farmer and cattleman. He worked for the railroad.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was a World War II veteran.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden.

Other survivors include three sons, Jerry Schiltz and wife, Paula, Selden, Don Schiltz and wife, Teresa, Liberal, Rob Schiltz and wife, Carla, St. Francis.; four daughters, Barbara Corder and husband, Joe, Colorado Springs, Colo., Evelyn Dohm and husband William, Tulsa, Okla, Elaine Koerperich and husband Nick, Selden, and Dee Ann Koster and husband, Dan, Hays; four sisters, Loretta and Ed Hayden, Goodland; Mary Ann Seeberger and husband, Gilbert, Hanover; Florine Pritchard and husband Harry, Denver, Colo. and Catherine Neal and husband Varian Neal, Oberlin; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden with the Father George Kochuvelikkakan and Reverend Stan Chapin.

Vigil Service will be at 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Selden Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Selden EMS in care of Paul's Funeral Home 121 N. Penn, Oberlin, KS 67749.

DETRICK JOVAN MARTIN

Detrick Jovan Martin, infant son of Ebony Martin died Dec. 7, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 7, 2003, in Liberal.

Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Lavondrick Martin, Willie Mills and Keontis Whitehead, all of the home; grandmother, Clematine Martin, Dumas, Ark.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Liberal Cemetery with the Reverend B.D. Williams presiding.

Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
