HELEN LEE JENKINSON
SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Helen Lee Jenkinson, 97, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Superior Township, Mich.
She was born Aug. 8, 1906, to Boler C. and Sarah Bohr Waters in Wilburn.
She married Walter Dierking in August, 1928. He died in 1933. She then married Homer P. Jenkinson Feb. 23, 1947, in Meade. He died June 29, 1969.
She was a resident of Meade County for most of her life.
She taught in rural school for three years. She was a farmer. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Quilters and the Meade County Campers in Plains. She was the last surviving charter member of the Ideal Homemakers Club in Plains.
Survivors include one daughter, Georgia Lee Schmalzried, Plymouth, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Vera Waters, Fowler, Mary Jo Parker, Coldwater; two granddaughters, Brenda Schmalzried, Westland, Mich., Gretchen DiTullio and husband, Arthur, Sterling Heights, Mich.; one great-grandson, RayDiTullio, Sterling Heights, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, two brothers, W. B. "Bill" Waters and Devon Waters, and two sisters, Grace Sumner and Mae Rexford.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Plains with the Reverend Terry Mayhew presiding.
Friends may call the Fidler-Orme Mortuary from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.
Burial will be at the Fowler Cemetery
in Fowler.

DON PARNELL
Don Parnell, 75, died Dec. 24, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Oct. 30, 1928, to Laurence and Emma (Allen) Parnell in Liberal.
He married Anita Joyce Munger Oct. 26, 1952.
He then married Patricia A. (Burke) Adkins Feb. 14, 1979, in Liberal. She survives.
He was a longtime resident of Liberal graduating from Liberal High School and attending Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo. He worked at Parnell Grocery, Rock Island Railroad, Tradewind Industries and started Parnell and Sons Fabricators which he retired as owner and operator. He served and retired from the Kansas Army National Guard.
He was a member of the V.F.W., 19 -year member of AA and past member of the Tuesday Night Bowling League.
Other survivors include one son, Scott Parnell and wife, Rolisa, Liberal; one daughter, Karen Wilson and husband, Mark, Liberal; two stepsons, Tom Adkins, Olathe, and David Adkins, Mississippi; two step-daughters, Michelle Adkins, Kismet, and Julie Warren, Sublette; six grandchildren, Adam, Austin, and Amy Parnell, and Dustin, Chad and Jessie Wilson; seven step-grandchildren, Alexis Chapman, Roseanna Adkins, Chelsea Warren, Amanda Dyson, Marie Adkins, Matthew Adkins and Michelle Adkins.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Spencer Powers presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.
PAULINE MURPHY
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Pauline Murphy, 86, died Dec. 23, 2003, in Williamsburg.
She married L. Duane Murphy. He survives.
She was a former longtime resident of Sublette.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Giles and her husband, Gary, and MaryAnne Bruno and husband, Don; three grandchildren, Alan Pederson-Giles and wife, Jennifer, Anne Giles and Geoffrey Giles; one great-grandchild, Jennifer Wes Pederson Giles.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park in Williamsburg.
A memorial service will be Jan. 9, 2004, at Williamsburg Landing.

MAX E. NEWBY
MEADE, -- Max E. Newby, 74, died Dec. 25, 2003, at the Park West Plaza in Wichita Kansas.
He was born Oct. 5, 1929, to Emra and Elizabeth Harvey Newby in Gate, Okla.
He married Mildred Lucille Jones in Knowels, Okla. She died Aug. 30, 2001.
He attended Panhandle State University for a semester before transferring to Friends University, receiving his Bachelors degree. He later attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received his Masters degree. He was a resident of Meade since 1979 and retired as a school administrator, having served as principal for the Meade Grade School for several years.
He was member of the Friends Church in Fowler and the Gideons International.
Survivors include one son, Greg Newby and wife, Rhonda, Wichita; three daughters, Debbie Buesch and husband, Robert, Wichita, Anita Wiens and husband, Jerome, Meade, and Vonda Newby, Wichita; five brothers, Edgar Newby, Gate, Okla., Bruce Newby, Chandler, Okla., Roger Newby, Oklahoma City, Okla., Ron Newby, West Minister, Colo., and Gary Newby, Beaver, Okla.; five sisters, Vivian Fleming, Wichita, Evelyn Bell, Jerseyville, Ill., Helen Gray, Graham, Texas, Carolyn Barnett, Erie Colo., and Marilyn Sulak, Guyton, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Bradon Wiens, Taylor Wiens, Dalton Wiens, Matt Buesch, Mike Buesch and Steve Buesch.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday at the Meade High School in Meade with Galen Hinshaw presiding.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade.

THELMA LAVAUGHN JONES
ANDERSON, Ind. -- Thelma LaVaughn Jones, 79, died Dec. 22, 2003, in Florida.
She was born Nov. 19, 1924, to Gordon and Anna Jones.
She married Paul Whalen in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1990.
She lived on a farm in the Oklahoma Panhandle and graduated from Alva High School. She attended one year of college at Northwestern Oklahoma University before transferring to Anderson College, where she graduated in 1947 with a degree in Christian Education. She later earned an elementary education degree in Denver. She and her husband served Churches of God in Michigan, Kansas, Indiana, Colorado, Missouri, Alabama and Grand Cayman. She taught school for 25 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Hanna and husband, Larry, Marissa, Ill., and Jan Fitts and husband, Royce, Gering, Neb.; two sisters, Margaret Smith, Penney Farms, Fla., and Irene Johnson and husband, Ralph, Lake San Marcos, Calif.; four grandchildren, Patricia Hanna, Indianapolis, Christopher Hanna, Valparaiso, Donielle Fitts, Emmaus, Penn. and Shane Fitts, San Antonio, Texas; seven nephews; two neices; and sister-in-law, Adina Flynt and husband, Oscar.
She was also preceded in death byone son, Russell; her parents; and one sister, Eunice.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Home in Anderson, Ind.
Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery
in Anderson.
Visitation will be today from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. today.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. today at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service.
Memorials are suggested to the Whalen Memorial Scholarship at Anderson University.
LOIS M. OWENS
Our beloved Lois M. Owens, 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center.
Lois was born Dec. 30, 1925, at Englewood, Kansas the daughter of Willie T. and Jennie (Jay) Cothron.
Lois was a longtime Liberal resident. She worked for Ragsdale Grocery for 13 years and worked for Beech Aircraft in Liberal and Wichita 22 years. After her retirement from Beech Aircraft she returned to her home in Liberal.
Lois was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports. She loved her home and did all that she could to make it special.
Lois believed in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized into the Quaker Faith.
She is survived by her loving family. One brother, William Cothron, Lakewood, Calif.; one sister, Vivian Brewer and husband, Bill, Optima, Okla.; and by many beloved nephews and nieces and their children.
Lois is preceded in death by her father, Willie T. Cothron; mother, Jennie Gorden; one brother, Edgar Cothron; and three sisters, Ruby Gray, Wilma Heard and Georgia Russell.
A private service was held at Forgan Cemetery
in Forgan, Okla.
A reception will be held in memory of Lois M. Owens from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 44 S. Roosevelt in Liberal.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be sent to the charity of donor's choice.
Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
