WILLIS GERALD WILSON
Willis Gerald Wilson, 32, died Jan. 3, 2003, at his home in Liberal.
He was born July 11, 1971, to Willie and Lue Della Horn Wilson.
He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1989. He received certificates in masonry and auto body from the Southwest Kansas Technical School in Liberal. He has lived in Liberal for the past seven years.
Survivors include his father, Willie Wilson, Kansas City; two brothers, Jeffery and Christopher Wilson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several uncles, aunts and cousins in Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bibleway Church of God in Christ in Liberal.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
WAYNE ALLEN JOHNS
Wayne Allen Johns, 63, died Jan. 10, 2004, at his residence in Liberal.
He was born Sept. 28, 1940, to Everett and Lucille (Campbell) Johns in Amsterdam, Ohio
He married Sharon Snodgrass in 1979 in Guymon, Okla. She survives.
He attended schools in Woodward, Okla. and Liberal. He attended St. John's Military School in Salina. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a Liberal resident for the past six years moving from Joplin, Mo. He was a former truck driver and carpentry worker.
Other survivors include one son, David Snodgrass, Long Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Lucille McClure, Wichita, Brenda Booth and husband, Laban, Liberal, and Linda Snodgrass and Ramone Acosta, Liberal; one brother, Dean Johns, Texas; two sisters, Ann Calahan, Fla. and Carolyn Best, Kansas City; eight grandchildren, one great-grandduaghter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joey Snodgrass.
Cremation has taken place.
A private service has taken place.
Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MIGUEL ANGEL RIOS
HUGOTON -- Miguel Angel Rios, 35, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, as a result of an industrial accident at the Northwest Cotton Growers Cotton Gin in Moscow.
He was born Sept. 29, 1968, to Abundio and Maria De La Luz (Castillo) Rios in Coahuila, Mexico.
He married Eugenia Sanchez May 1, 1996, in Mexico. She survives.
He moved from Juarez, Mexico to Hugoton in August of 2003.
He was a member of Monte Santo Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hugoton. He was a laborer for Northwest Cotton Growers Co-op in Moscow.
Other survivors include two daughters, Paula Rios and Sarai Rios, both of Hugoton; his parents, Mexico; two brothers, Luis Rios and Chino Rios, both of Mexico; five sisters, Lusina Rios, San Juana Rios, Maria De Los Angeles, Lourdes Rios and Silvia Rios, all of Mexico; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Juan Castillo.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Pastor Jorge Tinoco presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paul's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MERLENE KAY HARDESTY
CIMARRON -- Merlene Kay Hardesty, 68, died Monday Jan. 12, 2004, in Minneapolis.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.
THOMAS R. "TOM" TAYLOR
Thomas R. "Tom" Taylor, 46, died Jan. 10, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 30, 1957, to Thomas C. and LaVonne J. Shelite Taylor in Pratt.
He married LaDeana J. Owens Dec. 20, 1974, in Liberal. She survives.
He came to Liberal in 1967 and attended Liberal schools including Southwest Kansas Technical School. He worked in the oilfield in Texas and Kansas for more than 30 years.
Other survivors include one son, Thomas A. Taylor, Wichita Falls, Texas; one daughter, Jandie F. Taylor, Wheeler, Texas; his mother, LaVonne Freeman and husband, Richard, Conroe, Texas; three sisters, Ann Thomas and husband, Dave, Massanutten, Va.; Dr. Shelly Albritton and husband, Pete, Conway, Ark.; Kathy Burnett and husband, Dean, Kingston, Okla.; nephews, nieces and special friend, Cathy Milton, Borger, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father T.C. Taylor and one son, Joshua Lance Taylor.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call at Miller Mortuary 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the Crown of Texas Hospice in Borger Texas in care of the mortuary.
TROY DEAN PINKHAM
GARDEN CITY -- Troy Dean Pinkham, 33, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at his residence in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 23, 1970, to Steven D. Pinkham and Jeannie A. Beltch in Goodland.
He lived in Garden City for about 15 years. He attended the Corner Stone Church in Garden City and was very active in Special Olympics.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Judy Pinkham; his mother; three brothers, Ryan Pinkham, Cheyenne, Wyo., Tony Gemellio, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Randy Rhoades, Crabtree, Penn.; his grandmothers, Juanita Pinkham, Hugoton, and Blanch Beltch, Goodland; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Valerie N. Lantzy, and both his grandfathers, Bob D. Pinkham and Bill Beltch.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God in Hugoton with the Pastor Bill Vincent presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
JESSIE J. COOK
Jessie J. Cook, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later by Miller Mortuary.
JACK SCHROEDER
Jack Schroeder, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Bob Wilson Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born March 7, 1931, to Hubert and Lillie Stonesiper Schroeder in Burkburnett, Texas.
After his parents death he was raised by his foster parents, Tommy and Minnie Grisson.
He married Betty J. Atkinson Starnes Aug. 19, 1968, in Hooker, Okla. She survives.
He attended school at Alvord, Texas.
He worked in the oilfields in Texas. He moved to Liberal and was employed by Hall Construction Co. He retired in 1993.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Baptist Church in Alvarado, Texas. He was a lifetime member of VFW Lane Day Post No. 3166 in Liberal.
Other survivors include four sons, J Hubert Schroeder, Perryton, Texas, Jerry L. Schroeder and wife Chris, Tyrone, Okla., Larry Starnes and wife, Judy, Springfield, Mo., Ronald Starnes and wife, Donna, Cushing, Okla.; four grandchildren, Casey Schroeder, Andy Starnes, Shawn Starnes and Michelle Starnes; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Katlin and Mary; one cousin, Joe Grisson and wife, JoAnn, Woodward, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, and two brothers; Lynn and Roland.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Liberal Cemetery
with the Reverend Rick Troubaugh presiding.
Military honors will be provided by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
