LINDA LOU BRINGHAM-MARTIN

MEADE -- Linda Lou Bringham-Martin, 49, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Ky.

She was born July 9, 1954, to Charles Lenard and Margaret Delores (Heckman) Spralding in Independence.

She graduated from Cherryvale High School in Cherryvale in 1972. She graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Entomology in 1976.

She married Alan Bringham June 7, 1975. He died March 20, 1995. She then married Robert Martin Feb. 14, 1999. He survives.

She was an entomologist. She participated in crop protection in Meade County. She was involved in Bringham Flying Service.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Meade.

She was a member of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. She was also a member of the Kiwanis Club in Meade.

She loved to read and was an active supporter of the local public library.

She is also survived by two sons, Darin Bringham, Meade, and Heath Bringham, Meade; one daughter, Lisa Bringham, Meade; her mother, Deloris Spadling, Cherryvale; and two sisters, Vickie Madl, Parsons and Mary Jo Wallis, Independence.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Jared Alan Bringham; and her father, Charles Spradling.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Murray, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Meade High School Auditorium in Meade with the Reverend Susan Greene presiding.

Friends may call Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday.

Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the Meade Public Library Foundation or the American Cancer Society in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler, Meade, KS 67864.

ESTHER MAE BAUERSFIELD

GOLDEN, Colo. -- .Esther Mae Bauersfield, 86, died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Golden, Colo.

She was born May 2, 1917, to William Clarence and Mary Bess Bryan in Liberal.

She married Lewis E. Bauersfield, Dec. 30, 1939, in Meade. He died

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Annise Bauersfield, Wichita, Louise Dean and husband, Nick, Arvada, Colo.; and sisters Phyllis McGurk, Liberal and Joyce Wadley, Tyrone, Okla.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Beedle Simpson.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church in Golden.

Inurnment will be at the Liberal Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Exmpla Lutheran Hospice, 8300 W. 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colo. 80033.

NICHOLAS SERRA

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Nicholas Serra, 84, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Middletown Township, Pa.

He was born in Bristol, Pa.

He was married to Hurtha R. Serra (nee Franke). She preceded him in death.

He was a resident of Ewing, N.J. prior to moving to Liberal 20 years ago.

He was employed with Chase Aircraft in Trenton, N.J. for many years until retiring and was a member of the Mercer Air Club in Trenton, N.J

He is survived by two sons, Bruce L. Serra, Robert Serra and wife, Claudia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph and Richard Serra; one sister, Rita Ertel; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call the James J. Doughtery Funeral Home from 7p.m. until 9 p.m. today in Levittown, Pa. at 215-943-7240.

All other services and burial will be private.

MONTE J. TUCKER

ULYSSES -- Monte John Tucker, 34, Ulysses, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Gray County.

He was born Nov. 12, 1969, to Dr, Charles and Jane (Johnson) Tucker in Kansas City, Kan.

He married Jana Lyn Harris Jan. 2, 1993, in Alva, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Alva High School in 1988, and from Oklahoma State University in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance.

He became a CPA in 1996, and worked for State Farm Insurance as an accounting supervisor. He moved to Ulysses in 1998 and became the State Farm Agent.

He was a member of Rotary Club, past president of Grant County Chamber of Commerce, and served as a Chamber Ambassador, all in Ulysses.

He volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ulysses Relay for life, and coached soccer and softball for Grant County Recreation.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.

Other survivors include two daughters, Taylor and Ashley, both of the home; his parents, Alva; Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Gerald and Jane Harris, Liberal; one brother, Tony Tucker, Byron, Okla.; one sister, Darla Helms, Scottsdale, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, including Chantz Tucker, Addison, Carson and Quincy Helms; grandparents, Nadola Tucker, McPherson, Doyle Johnson, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Thelma Johnson, Alva.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Tucker; and one aunt, Susie Tucker.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Dennis Livingston presiding.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Alva Municipal Cemetery in Alva.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Alva with the Rev. Greg Hook and the Rev. Dennis Livingston presiding.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to a college fund established for his children in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

ROBERT RICE

Robert Rice, 87, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.

He was born Nov. 11, 1916, to Albert and Ada (Eckle) Rice in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

He married Leree Watson Jan. 28, 1939, in Boise City, Okla. She died Sept. 13, 2002.

He has been a resident of the Liberal area for the past 60 years, where he owned and operated a family farm. He also was the office manager for the area ASC office in Liberal until retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Progressive Grange and was an avid woodworker.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Ray Rice and wife, Carolyn, Branson, Mo.; and Jerrie Joe Rice and wife, Diana, Liberal; two brothers, Ray Rice, Palm Springs, Calif., and Milton Rice, Liberal; two sisters Lucille Hickman, Capistrano Beach, Calif., and Louise Lewis, Broomfield, Colo.; five grandchildren, Brian Rice, Melissa Rice, Gina Willems, Sara Nevins and Amanda Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Riley Nevins, Tatum Nevins and Chloe Willems.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Rice.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Liberal Cemetery with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.

Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal. The casket will remain closed.

TAFIEL "TAFE" SCHAUER

ULYSSES -- Tafiel "Tafe" Schauer, 91, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.

He was born to Philip and Mathilda (Schimke) Schauer Sept. 7, 1912, in Underwood, N.D.

He married Rachel Marie Hampton Feb. 5, 1939, in Ulysses. She survives.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving one year in Europe.

He moved from Sharon Springs to Ulysses in 1951. He worked as a barber until 1955. He opened his own shop called Tafe's Barber Shop. He retired in 1980.

After retiring, he and his wife spent 11 years of winters in Arizona. They also spent time in Harvey, N.D. and Sparta, Tenn. visiting family members.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Ulysses.

He was also a member of the Charles B. Hart American Legion Post No. 79 in Ulysses, and the Do-Si-Do Square Dance Club for more than 30 years.

He received a plaque of recognition and appreciation of service as the oldest living World War II veteran in Ulysses.

Other survivors include two brothers, Ervin Schauer and wife, Mary, Mesa, Ariz., Judge Hilbert Schauer and wife, Jimmie, Parker, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Reuben Schauer; and four sisters, Emma Fredrick, Marie Harris, Martha O'Dell, and Elsie Lee.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ulysses with the Pastor Dennis Mason presiding. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles B. Hart American Legion Post No. 79, Ulysses at the Ulysses Cemetery.

Friends may call the Funeral Home until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Western Prairie Care Home or the donor's choice in care of Grant County Funeral Home, 28 S. Main, Ulysses, KS 67880.
