PAULINE H. ALFORD
ULYSSES Pauline H. Alford, 90, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Fowler Nursing Home in Fowler.
She was born Feb. 5, 1914, to Robert Oxley and Minnie Florence (Preston) Johnson in Neodesha.
She married Jno. W. Alford Feb. 12, 1936, in Yuma, Ariz. He died July 27, 1974.
She was a homemaker in Ulysses since the 1930s.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, the United Methodist Women and served as a Sunday school teacher.
She had various offices with the Republican Women, Ulysses Eastern Star No. 471, Cimarron Extension Unit and the Cimarron Grange. She was also a Grant County 4-H leader.
Survivors include one son, J. Stephen Alford and wife Peggy, Ulysses; one daughter, Paula Marie Schroll, Woodland Park, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nora Dack, Van Orme, Texas, and Jesse Kline, Big Lake, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Mahmand, Harry, Kenneth and Orlan Johnson, and two sister, Vergie Adams and Lucy McCready.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Dennis H. Livingston presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses with Order of the Eastern Star No. 471.
Friends may visit until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.

JACK R. MOON
Jack Robbins Moon, 83, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at his residence in Liberal.
He was born Nov. 4, 1920, to Clarence A. and Hazel Gertrude (Robbins) Moon in Dodge City.
He married Jennie Nell Wallace Norris Feb. 8, 1963, in Liberal. She survives.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.
He was a retired electrician for the Rock Island Railroad Cotton Belt.
He was a member of the Trinity Faith Church. He served as chairman of the board, treasurer, Sunday school teacher and youth sponsor of the First Church of God for many years. He also served as treasurer and board member for Youth for Christ for several years.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and had received his Silver Beaver Award and Member of the Brotherhood Maintenance of Way Union.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael R. Moon and wife Marilyn, Blue Springs, Mo., and Steven Wayne Norris and wife Gayle, Ottawa; four grandchildren, James Moon, Michelle Herrold, Jennifer Spangler and Stephanie Norris; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Moon, Tyrone, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jackie Moon; three brothers, Eugene, Lloyd and Donald Moon and one sister, Barbara Schneider.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Trinity Faith Church with Pastor Dee Estes presiding.
Burial will be in Lone Star Cemetery, Woods.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

LILLIAN A. BROSE
Lillian Aleene "Nannie" Brose, 82, died June 21, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 6, 1921, to Alfred Harmon and Hazel Irene (Lampman) Tucker in San Antonio, Texas.
She married C. E. "Humpy" Brose on Nov. 9, 1946, in Meade. He died in 1978.
She was a Certified Nurse Aide for Southwest Medical Center for 25 years. She also did specialty nursing for many Liberal residents. She and her husband co-owned Humpy's News Stand for 25 years.
She was a Life Member of the PTA, Liberal.
Survivors include one son-in-law, Tom Sturges, Clayton, N.M.; two daughters, Mary Sturges, Liberal, and Cindy VenJohn and husband, Pat, Ingalls; six grandchildren, Jason VenJohn, Keith VenJohn, Levi Sturges, Kandie Sturges, Marcy VenJohn and Stacie Freeman and husband Roy; and one great-grandchild, Areena Rae Freeman.
She is also preceded by her parents and one great-grandchild, Lilly Anna Sturges.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday in Liberal Cemetery
with Pastor Rusty Callahan presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

HELEN M. LAUPPE
FOWLER Helen M. Lauppe, 62, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Sept. 30, 1941, to Marcello and Marcella (Decker) Reynozo in Dwight.
She married Bobby D. Lauppe on Aug. 12, 1961, in Manhattan. He survives.
She graduated from Dwight High School in 1959 and later attended business college in Manhattan.
She was a rural mail carrier, homemaker and helped with custodial work for St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fowler.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabelle. She served as a past Regent and Vice Regent, Fowler.
Other survivors include her father; two sons, Marion Lauppe, Lamar, Ark. and Melvin Lauppe, Meade; two daughters, Sarah Lauppe, Fowler and Diana Frederick, Greeley, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Sharon, Dwight; seven nephews; five nieces; six great-nephews; nine great-nieces; and many aunts and uncles.
She is preceded by a daughter, Janet Marie Lauppe Hailey.
Holy mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Francis Stuart presiding.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade.

HELEN M. LEIGH
ULYSSES Helen M. (Robinson) Leigh, 82, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at her home in Ulysses.
She was born on May 31, 1922, to Romney Rutherford and Lavada Etta (Williams) Robinson in Augusta.
She married William Alfred Leigh Dec. 8, 1939, at Campo, Colo. He died on Jan. 7, 1998.
She graduated from high school in Springfield, Colo., in 1939.
She had been a homemaker in Ulysses since 1939.
She was a member of the Ulysses Mennonite Brethren Church, Christian Woman's Club.
She played in the Kitchen Cuties Band, was active in the Hospital Service League and was a Supervisor of the Candy Stripers. She was active in Western Prairie Care Home, the Grant County Senior Center and was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge, Ulysses.
Other survivors include two sons, George Leigh and wife Jeanette, Ulysses, and Charles Leigh and wife Paula, LamPasses, Texas; two daughters, Susan Siebert and husband Waldo, Overland Park, and Etta Friesen and husband Gary, Lynden, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, V. Robi Mueller, Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Meriel Cooper and Edna Grant.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Ulysses Mennonite Brethren Church, Ulysses, with Pastor Nathan Gift presiding.
Burial will follow at Shockey Cemetery, rural Grant County.
Friends may call until 7 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.

ROBERT A. ARNOLD
SUBLETTE Robert Allen Arnold, 59, formally of Sublette, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at his home in Anderson, Mo.
He was born Sept. 4, 1944, to Robert "Bob" and Ruby I. (Crawford) Arnold in Liberal.
He married Marion Keaton Sept. 25, 1982, in Garden City. She survives.
He graduated from Sublette High School.
He was in the Army Reserves for 20 years in Garden City.
He worked for the Williams Gas Company in Garden City.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church, Rolla.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Garden City.
Other survivors include his mother; five daughters, Shelly Turner and husband Keith, Jacksonville, Fla., Tracy Davis and husband Mike, Holcomb, Adrianna Gumina and husband Salvatore, St. Mary's, Ga., Heidi Arnold, Jacksonville, Fla., and Namoi Arnold, Wichita; five grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Allison Smith, Ashley Smith, Salvatore Gumina and Mackenzie Davis; and one sister, Linda Park and husband Bob, Garden City.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Lana Pearl Arnold.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Rolla Cemetery, Rolla, with Pastor Richard Martin presiding.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.
