GROVER G. LEES

Grover Garland Lees, 82, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center.

He was born June 8, 1922, to Charles and Viola Lewis Lees four miles east of Hooker, Okla.

He went to school in Hooker and Adams, Okla., and graduated from Hardesty (Okla.) High School in 1940. After graduation, he went to Business College in Oklahoma City,

He married Ruth Jane Howell on Oct. 4, 1947, in Albuquerque, N.M. She survives.

On Jan. 23, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 45th Division in the European Theater, serving in the medical detachment. He moved wounded soldiers from the front lines to field hospitals, seeing 511 days of combat. On Sept. 26, 1945, he received his honorable discharge.

He worked in the construction of Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America's plant near Hooker. After it was completed, he worked full time for the company. He retired after 38 years in 1986.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Hooker, Okla., the Hooker American Legion Post, Hooker Senior Citizens and Liberal VFW.

He enjoyed playing golf. He loved to garden, especially his roses, peonies and vegetables.

Other survivors include two daughters, Jacque Hamm and husband Mike, Plains, and Patsy Guinn, Liberal; two grandchildren, Scott Hamm, Virginia Beach, Va., and Hollie Roesch and husband Mark, Jenks, Okla.; and four great-grandchildren, Makayla, Logan, Josh and Kade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Louella Lees, and his brother, Jack Lees.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at United Methodist Church, Hooker, Okla., with the Rev. Rick Trobaugh presiding.

Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Firefighters, the Hooker Ambulance Association or the Luann Fischer Memorial Swimming Pool Fund in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., Box 745, Hooker, OK, 73945.

DORIS F. GRAHAM

GREAT BEND ­ Doris F. Graham, 84, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Alterra Sterling House in Great Bend.

She was born Feb. 21, 1920, to Francis (Frank) Samuel and Nancy Lovina Hawley Bozarth in Liberal.

She married John A. Graham on Oct. 13, 1940, at Liberal. He died May 7, 1977.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, FS Chapter of PEO, Stoneridge Ladies Golf Association, "Bloomer Girls" Sewing Club, Kansas State President's Club and several bridge clubs.

Survivors include two sons, James J. Graham and wife Celinda, Wichita, and John R. Graham and wife Mary Lee, Manhattan; one daughter, Marsha Protinsky and husband Howard, Hardy, Va.; four grandchildren, Paige Graham Protinsky, Jeff Graham and wife Kristen, Blake Graham and wife Traci, and Nichols Graham and wife Amy; and one sister, Ruby Feese, Dallas.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Darrell Ray Bozarth.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Gary Brooks presiding.

Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., Thursday and from 9 a.m. until noon, Friday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.

Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Community Foundation and First United Methodist Church.

CHARLES A. THADEN

ULYSSES ­ Charles Arthur Thaden, Sr., 59, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born July 4, 1945, to Chester and Betty (Alexander) Thaden in Doniphan, Neb.

He was a cowboy and had been a pen rider for Supreme Feeders, Grant County Feeders, KanTex and Cattle Empire II.

He enjoyed team penning. He also had a love of horses and dancing.

Survivors include his father and wife Jean, Saronville, Neb.; one son, Charles A. Thaden, Jr., Minden, Neb.; one daughter, Desiree Tedford, Paola; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy, Bradley, Beau, Madison, Kyley, Bernnen, Jasmin, Zoey, Aubrey and Charles III; two brothers, Rolland Thaden, Omaha, Neb., and Tim Thaden, Alvo, Neb.; and one sister, Cathy Cowell, Longmont, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Graveside services will be at 7 p.m., Monday at the Ulysses Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Bynum presiding.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to the Charles A. Thaden, Sr., Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

GEORGE A. KINGSHOTT

HUGOTON ­ George A. Kingshott, 97, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born Sept. 19, 1906, to George Albert and Anna Maria (Wunderlich) Kingshott, Sr., in Manistee, Mich.

He married Grace Arlene Johnson June 20, 1932, in Louisville, Ky.

He owned and operated Midway Service Garage in Muskegon, Mich., and later owned and operated C and K Trucking in New Buffalo, Mich.

Survivors include one son, George Alan Kingshott and wife Linda, New Buffalo, Mich.; one daughter, Gayle Arlene Knowles and husband Ian Peter, Swaby, England; one grandson, Evan Greenwood, Hugoton; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Moser and husband Dennis, Moscow, Judith Kenninger and husband David, Brownsburg, Ind., Amber Taylor and husband Michael, Hugoton; 10 great-grandchildren, Jarrod Moser, Lalane McClure and Ben, Jeremy Ellsaesser, Amy Moser, Grace Elsaesser, Andrew Moser, Libby Spencer, Nathaniel Kenninger, Hannah Susan Spencer and Hannah Marie Kenninger; two great-great grandchildren, Toby McClure and Molly McClure; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m, Saturday, July 24, at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

ELLEN E. AMBROSIER

Ellen E. Ambrosier, 87, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 13, 1916, to Irvin M. and Bashie L. Armstrong Fetterolf in Webster.

She married Arlo A. Ambrosier on June 3, 1937, in Hill City. He survives.

She graduated from Stockton High School, Stockton, in 1937.

She was a housewife.

She was a member of First Christian Church and Christian Women Fellowship.

She was a member of Girl Scouts of America, True Friend Club, Antelope Valley Club and the VFW Auxiliary and the Sodde Society.

She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing and many other crafts and was an accomplished gourmet cook.

Other survivors include two daughters, Faylene Cambern and husband Charles, Liberal, and Kaylene Freeman and husband Vance, Goddard; six grandchildren, Ellen Banister and husband Daryl, Augusta, Helen Shawver and husband Martin, Douglass, Dulene Rathbun, Wichita, William Pittman, Douglass, Amanda Freeman, Wichita, and Michelle Weisgerber and husband Matt, Wichita; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Cambern and Travis Cambern and wife Erin, Dallas, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Banister, Augusta, Jered Banister, Augusta, Sally Shawver, Douglass, Blaine Shawver, Douglass, Morgan Rathbun, Wichita, and Montgomery Rathbun, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, and one daughter, Anna Arlene Ambrosier.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Randy Cook presiding.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Hill City Cemetery, Hill City.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church in care of Miller Mortuary.

IRENE M. HITCHCOCK

SALINA ­ Irene Melba Hitchcock, 65, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Salina Regional Hospital, Salina.

She was born July 24, 1938, to Albert Berry and Deris Lorene (Cranshaw) Scroggins in Fredonia.

She married Arthur LeRoy Hitchcock on May 24, 1956, in Ulysses. He survives.

She graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1956.

She worked for L & J Implement, Duckwalls and Ansel Manufacturing.

She was a member of Country View Baptist Church, Ulysses.

She enjoyed fishing, bird watching, growing plants and flowers, crocheting, crafts and her grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sons, Albert Leslie Hitchcock, Sheridan, Wyo., and Arthur LeRoy (Artie) Hitchcock II, Damar; one daughter, Donna Irene McEachern, Pratt; seven grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Scroggins, Chicago; and two sisters, Iva Hindman, Satanta, and Ilene Pierce, Las Cruces, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Iona Berger.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at Country View Baptist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Sam Bynum presiding.

Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to The Rebecca A. Morris House of Salina (Heartland Hospitality Home) in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS, 67880.

DOROTHY M. ECK

ULYSSES ­ Dorothy Mae Eck, 76, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born Dec. 16, 1927, to Jacob George and Marie Catherine (Dumler) Meier in Russell.

She married Leo John Eck, Sr., May 23, 1951. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1996.

She attended college at Wichita State and Friends University, graduating with a dual B.S. in vocal and instrumental music.

She was a teacher in Zenda, Holcomb, Leoti and Healy. She had also worked at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital after obtaining her certificate in ER/OR technical training.

After retirement, she enjoyed staying busy at home with her hobbies: movies, music, reading, painting and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons, Leo J. Eck, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dexter P. Eck, Ulysses; one daughter, Angela M. McGillivray Scott, Gold Canyon, Ariz.; and four grandsons, Dustin Eck, Jacob Gantz, Joshua Gantz and Jamie Gantz.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Celeste Eileen Eck, two brothers, Fr. Paul Meier and Franklin Meier and one sister, Frances Leonard.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m., today at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sharon.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sharon with Father Mike Peltver presiding.

Burial will follow at the St. Boniface Catholic Church Cemetery in Sharon.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Homecare in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880 or Larrison Funeral Home, 120 East Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104.
