ELAINE WALTER

SUBLETTE ­ Elaine Walter, 67, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, as a result of an auto accident north of Sublette.

She was born July 28, 1937, to Stanley Paul and Edith Franklin (Leebrick) Kubiack in Kansas City, Mo.

She married Harold Wayne Walter July 28, 1957, at Roswell, N.M. He survives.

She was the visual arts teacher at Sublette High School for 31 years. She started the art program at Sublette High School. She had received the Outstanding Kansas High School Art Teachers Award for 2003.

She was a member of the Christian Church.

She was a member of the Kansas Art Education Association.

Survivors include one son, Bradley Wayne Walter, Sublette; one daughter, Kristi Elaine Walter, Sublette; four grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. today at the Sublette High School New Gym with Minister David Erwin presiding.

Burial was in the Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to either the Sublette High School Art Department or the Christian Church of Sublette and may be mailed to Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

VERA FIDLER

MEADE ­ Vera E. Fidler, 87, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Enterprise.

She was born Jan. 19, 1917, to Ivan O. and Opal Grace (Simmonds) Moore in rural Reno County.

She married Loyal H. Fidler Jan. 26, 1936, in Rolla.

The couple farmed in rural Morton County.

On Dec. 1, 1949, they purchased the Fletcher Funeral Home in Meade, changing the name to Fidler Mortuary which they co-owned and operated until their retirement on April 1, 1977.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting, playing in local bridge clubs and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Meade.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Liberal, receiving her 50 year pin.

Survivors include four daughters, Banny Orme, Meade, Judy Smith, Meade, Vicky Susan PanKratz, Wichita, and Cindy Robbins, Yuma, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Moore, Hugoton; and one sister, Velva Schwartz, Derby.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary Chapel in Meade with the Rev. Terry Mayhew presiding.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Friends may call until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Meade Public Library Foundation or the American Red Cross in care of the funeral home.

CECILIA A. RAMEY

Cecilia A. (McCarthy) Ramey, 53, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at her home in Kansas City, Mo.

Survivors include her parents, Roger and Patricia McCarthy, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Michael McCarthy, Blue Springs, Mo., Edward McCarthy, Omaha, Neb., and Thomas McCarthy, St. Paul, Minn.; five sisters, Mary Fleming, Sioux Falls, S.D., Cassandra McCarthy, Spokane, Wash., Patricia Kolar, Omaha, Neb., Maureen Reilly, Omaha, Neb., and Catherine Anderson, Omaha, Neb.; one aunt, Sr. Mary Evangeline, R.S.M., Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass was at 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church in Omaha, Neb.

Private burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, Neb.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Humane Cemetery.

MICHAEL GERHARDT, JR.

Michael Gerhardt, Jr., 62, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004.

He was born May 30, 1942, to Michael and Florence (Brungardt) Gerhardt.

He married Boots in 1994. She survives.

He worked for Zenith Drilling, Inc., as a drilling superintendent in Liberal for 32 years.

He was a member of the Elks Order of Liberal.

Other survivors include three sons, Jerry Gerhardt, Wichita, James Gerhardt and wife Bobbie, Frisco, Texas, and Troy Gerhardt and wife Susan, Liberal; two stepchildren, Jeff Giesick and companion, Synthia Preston, Billings, Mo., and Rhonda Cox and husband Joe, Wichita; one grandson, Caleb Gerhardt, Liberal; three brothers, August Gerhardt, Victoria, Antone Gerhardt, Liberal and Herman Gerhardt, Russell; four sisters, Felicitas Windholtz, Victoria, Ann Roberson, Kansas City, Mo., Katie Rohr, Hays, and Betty Younger, Garden City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vickie, and four siblings, Mary Hertle, Bonneaventure Gerhardt, Donald Gerhardt and Geneva Esdall.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Mo.

Burial will follow in McConnell-Bledsoe Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

CYNTHIA A. MARTINEZ

Cynthia A. Martinez, 10, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in an automobile accident in New Mexico.

Survivors include her parents, Roger and Amparo Martinez; one brother, Michael; her maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many other family members and friends.

Vigil service will be at 7 p.m., Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with Father Patrick Keyes presiding.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.

ALMA F. MYERS

HUGOTON ­ Alma Faye Myers, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born May 22, 1911, to Pete Ervin and Lillis Faye (Gillum) Milburn in Rolla.

She married Jesse Ralph Morgan in 1929. He died in 1963.

She then married Ivan Myers in 1972. He died in 1980.

She was homemaker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rolla.

Survivors include three sons, Harold Morgan and wife Delores, Hugoton, Arlin Morgan and wife Thelma, Topeka, and Wendell Morgan and wife Monica, Hutchinson; three daughters, Doris McBride, Denver, Marie Ireton and husband Elmer, Uvalda, Texas, Lona Leist and husband Edgewater, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Drew, Hugoton; and many relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Elver, Earl and Tom Milburn, one sister, Emma Stoner and one son, Russell Ervin Morgan.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Rolla with Pastor John Jordan presiding.

Burial will be in Rolla Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to either the United Methodist Church in Rolla or donor's choice and may be mailed to Paul's Funeral Home.

FRED N. VANLEY

Fred N. "Curley" Vanley, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004.

He was born Nov. 10, 1924 to James Roy and Edith Vanley in Webb City, Okla.

Survivors include his wife Claudine; his children, Fred Vanley and wife Helen, Tucson, Ariz., Cheryl Vanley Hill and husband Larry, Krum, Texas, Pete Vanley and wife Shari, Cordelia Village, Calif., Jim Foster and wife Colleen of Appleton, Wis., Bill Foster, Napa, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean, Buffalo; one sister, Merle Jacobs, Bently; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Melvin, J.R. and Robert, and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at Grace Church of Napa Valley with Pastor John Fernandez presiding.

A private burial will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to either Hospice of Napa Valley, 3299 Claremont Way, Napa, CA 94558 or the American Cancer Society, 1031 Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94558.

BARBARA A. SCHUPMAN

Barbara Ann Schupman, 56, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 20, 1948, to Gilbert and Mary Harding Schupman in Beaver, Okla.

She attended Harrison Training Center in Liberal.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal

Survivors include one sister, Mary Hubbard, Liberal; and two nephews, Kevin and Bryan Hubbard, Liberal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Michael, and one sister, Angelia.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Friday at Miller Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church at First and Prospect with Father Tony Judge presiding.

Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday at Miller Mortuary.
