SHIRLEY EMRIE

Shirley Emrie was born in Liberal, Kansas on June 18, 1929 to Roscoe and Pauline Lea and died November 6, 2004.

She graduated from Liberal High School in l947. She attended Kansas State University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She later attended Oklahoma State University.

On June 19, 1949 she married Robert Emrie in Liberal, Kansas. To this union were born four children, Sharon, Dennis, Jennifer, and Cynthia. Shirley committed her life to her children and their children. Her love for them was total and complete.

Shirley and Bob were united in their commitment to the Shrine Hospital for Children. She served as Queen of the Ruh Neb Temple 64 Daughters of the Nile in l986, and later as the gracious first lady for her husband's year as the 1996 Potentate of Ben Hur Temple. She will be missed by her many friends in these great fraternal organizations.

She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Shirley was grateful to the church community for their attention and prayers during her extended stay in Seton Hospital.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kind services of the 8th floor staff at Seton during her long stay there. We also appreciate the kind care given Shirley by Intrepid Home Care and the compassionate care of Dr. Ace Alsup III M.D.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Lea and one brother Terry Lea. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert; daughter, Sharon Emrie of Lakeway; son, Dennis Emrie and wife Patrice of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Jennifer Sosler and husband Joe of Cedar Park; daughter, Cynthia Coleman of Lakeway; brother, Robert Lea and wife Newana of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Brooke Hailey; grandsons, Shiloh Wallace, Chad Emrie, Sean Emrie, Levi Hailey and Jacob Tarpley.

Shirley was an artist as was her mother; her creativity abounded. Her light shone the brightest when she was caring for children; blankets being knitted; tray favors being made to go with the children's meals; and benefits for the Shrine Burn Center being pulled together by her Sisters in Charity.

Shirley never stopped caring or sharing. She loved life: She loved children: She loved animals: She appreciated and loved all the beautiful loving care given her.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, beautiful soul, blessed gift from God. Her spirit is free, her physical departure leaves us a gap that no one will ever fill. She would not want us to be sad, forever, rather celebrate her life and the love and joy that all things Shirley brought us.

Honorary pallbearers were Past Queens of the Ruh Neb Temple 64 Daughters of the Nile.
