JOHNNY E. JANTZEN

MONTEZUMA --­ Johnny Edward Jantzen, 76, died Nov. 12, 2004, at Bethel Home, Inc., in Montezuma.

He was born April 14, 1928, to Enoch and Susana (Voth) Jantzen in Montezuma.

He married Pauline Maxine Kahn July 4, 1948, in Winton, Calif. She survives.

He was a housemover.

He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Cimarron.

Other survivors include three sons, Rodney Jantzen and wife Kathy, Hamilton City, Calif., Daniel Jantzen and wife Sheryl, Hamilton City, Calif., and Johnny Jantzen, Jr., Chico, Calif.; five daughters, Virginia Koehn and husband Gary, Scotia, Neb., Rachel Unruh and husband Dennis, Glenn, Calif., Priscilla Jantzen, Montezuma, Evangela Koehn and husband Lynn, Scotia, Neb., and Rosetta Jantzen, Montezuma; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Jantzen and wife Ruth, Moundridge, Alvin Jantzen and wife Pauline, Glenn, Calif., and Franklin Jantzen and wife Nadine, Blairsville, Ga.; three sisters, Gracie Koehn, Hilmar, Calif., Goldie Koehn and husband Albert, Artois, Calif., and Susan Koehn and husband Elton, Galva; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cimarron Mennonite Church with Ministers Keith Ensz, Wilbur Koehn and Stuart Jantzen presiding.

Burial will be in the Cimarron Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested Bethel Hom, Inc., in Montezuma and may be mailed to Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

CHARLES L. HAYES

MINERAL WELLS, Texas ­-- Charles L. Hayes, 83, dies Nov. 11, 2004 at his residence in Mineral Wells, Texas.

He was born Oct. 4, 1921 to Virgil and Erma Hayes in Fredonia.

He married Hilda Marie Crisler on Oct. 29, 1949 in Pratt. She died Jan. 1, 1999.

He was a newspaper journalist at the Southwest Daily Times for 50 years. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and Korea.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Hayes and wife Julia, Fayetteville, N.C. and Ronnie Hayes, Cincinnati; one daughter, Nancy Temple and husband Adron Mineral Wells, Texas; three grandchildren, Trey and Courtney Temple and Shanna Blanton; two great-grandchildren, Nickolas and Wyatt Blanton; and one sister, Helen Capp.

Funeral Services were held 11 a.m. Saturday at the North Oak Church of Christ in Mineral Wells Texas. Internment was held at the Woodland Park Cemetary with Brad Fry presiding.

ARLENE K. HILDEBRAND

Arlene K. Hildebrand, 59, died Nov. 13, 2004 at Southwest Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 20, 1944 to Kenneth and Grace Welty in Sterling.

She married Gary Hildebrand in Sterling on Dec. 28, 1968. He died June 18, 2002

She graduated from Sterling High Schoolin 1964 and then attended Sterling College.

She was an income tax consultant and a tax preparer with H & R block for 31 years. She also worked at the Lyons State Bank.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as an officer in ABW. She also helped with the Awana program and was a member of the Learners Sunday School Class.

Survivors include one son, Scott Hildebrand and wife Kristie, Abilene; one daughter, June hildebrand, Aurora, Colo.; and one grandaughter, Angel Hildebrand of Aurora, Colo.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wesley and Donald Welty.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.

Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Strafford.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9a.m. to 9p.m. Tuesday with family to recieve friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Camp Christy or American Cancer Society in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

LEARY E. PITTENDRIGH

Leary Edith Pittendrigh, 84, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 27, 1920, to Abraham Douglas and Fannie Frances (Williams) Young in Macomb, Okla.

She married Lloyd Phoenix Pittendrigh Dec. 13, 1939. He died Sept. 24, 1997.

Survivors include one son, Al Pittendrigh and wife Sheryl, Liberal; and one brother, Furman Young, Fresno, Calif.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberal City Cemetery with the Rev. David Parker presiding.

Friends may visit until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Miller Mortuary.

EDITH M. QUIMBY

HUGOTON ­-- Edith M. Quimby, 85, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born Nov. 30, 1918, to John P. and Nellie Mae (Hill) Patrick.

She married Verner Earl Hooker in December 1934 in Boise City, Okla. He died in 1950.

She then married Hobart Wesley Quimby Aug. 17, 1952, in Tucamcari, N.M. He survives.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugoton.

She was a member of the Tuesday, Thursday and Moscow Bridge clubs and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She loved to socialize with friends while playing cards, particularly pitch and bridge. She also enjoyed working on the farm, taking care of her family, parades, rodeos and horse races.

Other survivors include one son, Jimmy Quimby and wife Sherry, Guymon, Okla.; three daughters, Verna Kay McQueen and husband Glen, Hugoton, Donna Hooker, Hutchinson, and Vickie Dean and husband Donald, Liberal; three granddaughters, Debra Brandriff and husband John, Blue Springs, Mo., Gay Lynn Carlson and husband Dan, Falun, and Lacey Clark and husband Bobby, Amarillo, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Nikki, Caitlin, Alyssa and Rainie; one great-grandson, Reise; and many relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Patrick and Forrest (Buck) Patrick.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home of Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the V.F.W. Auxiliary in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.

OFELIA TERRAZAS

ULYSSES ­-- Ofelia Terrazas, 51, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.

She was born May 10, 1953, to Arnulfo and Maria (Acosta) Loya in El Terrero, Chihuahua, Mexico.

She married Guillermo Terrazas April 29, 1974, in Mexico. He survives.

She was a homemaker.

She was a Catholic.

Other survivors include one son, Guillermo "Gill" Terrazas, Jr., Ulysses; two daughters, Gisela Menchaca, Oceanside, Calif., and Jacqueline Terrazas, Ulysses; nine brothers, Luis Loya, Fernando Loya, Santos Loya, Rodolfo Loya, Renz Loya, Martin Loya and Arturo Loya, all of Mexico, and Juan Loya, Clovis, N.M.; five sisters, Maria Luz Loya, Teresa Loya, Socorro Loya and Marisela Loya, all of Mexico; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Additional funeral services will be in Mexico.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

MARVIN E. GABEL

FOWLER ­-- Marvin E. Gabel, 71, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 16, 1933, to Isidore and Josephine (Stecklein) Gabel in rural Ness County.

He married Dorothy Stramel June 17, 1957, in Dodge City. She survives.

He graduated from Ness City High School in 1951.

He and his wife owned and operated Fowler Food Market.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was also a Eucharistic Minister.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kiwanis Club and Fowler Housing Authority. He was also the secretary of treasury for the City of Fowler.

Other survivors include three sons, Larry Gabel, Olathe, Ronnie Gabel and wife Carmen, Hutchinson, and Tim Gabel and wife Kristen, Athens, Texas; two daughters, Sherry Slattery and husband Kip, Topeka, and Donna Stevens and husband Scott, Dodge City; 17 grandchildren; one brother, Jim Gabel, Bazine; and one sister, Betty Greene, Dodge City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma Riley.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fowler.

Holy mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Father Angel Dy and Father Warren Stecklein presiding.

Burial will be in Fowler Cemetery.

Friends may call until 5 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the church in care of the funeral home.
