ARLEN E. CRAFT

ULYSSES -- Arlen E. Craft, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at his residence in Ulysses.

He was born Nov. 9, 1920, to C.N. and Gerty (McCauley) Craft in Connorville, Okla.

He married Maxine Comer March 16, 1943, in Boise City, Okla. She survives.

He worked for Baca County Road and Bridge before moving his family to Ulysses.

He then worked for Columbia Chemicals as a repairman for 28 years retiring in 1983.

He served in the Merchant Marines from 1945 to 1946 during World War II.

Other survivors include one son, Ronald E. Craft and companion Patty (Anderson) Shapland, Ulysses; three granddaughters, Shanae Howie and husband Kirk, Wichita, Sharla Brutcher and husband Richard, St. Louis, and Aubrey Bidleman, Wichita; one great-grandson, Garrett E. Craft, Wichita; one sister, Jewel Woods, Amarillo, Texas; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Novetta Craft, Nora Herrington and Moneda Sutterfield, and one grandson, Blair Eugene Craft.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Sam Bynum presiding.

Burial will follow with military rites by Dexter D. Harbour of American Legion Post No. 79 at Ulysses Cemetery. --

Friends may call until 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home of Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to Garrett E. Craft Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

EDUARDO CHAVEZ

GARDEN CITY -- Eduardo "El Frijol" Chavez, 24, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2004, one-half mile of Mile Marker 68 on Hwy. 283 in north Ford County.

He was born July 18, 1980, to Leopoldo and Alma Rosa (Portio) Chavez in Guerrerro, Mexico.

He attended school in Liberal and Garden City.

He worked in the kill floor at Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., in Garden City.

He attended St. Mary Catholic Church.

His hobbies were music and sports, particularly football. He enjoyed spending time with his family, uncles and aunts and friends.

Survivors include two grandmothers; his parents; his wife Adriana Medina Chavez of the home; one son, Andrew Edward Chavez of the home; one daughter, Bryanna Monique Chavez of the home; three sisters, Maria Elena Chavez, Garden City, Cecilia Chavez, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Magali Chavez, Garden City; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Father Carlos Garcia-Pena presiding.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Friends may call until 6 p.m. today at 1303 W. Fulton in Garden City.

Memorials are suggested to Eduardo Chavez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.

NEVA G. HINSHAW

FOWLER -- Neva G. Hinshaw, 91, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Fowler Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 12, 1913, to Robert D. and Elva Elizabeth (Beighle) Hinshaw in Hopewell.

She graduated from Fowler High School in 1931. She later attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.

She worked as a bookkeeper with Fowler Equity and Fowler State Bank.

She had been a member of Fowler Friends Church since 1949.

Survivors include two nieces, Ingrid Walters, Aurora, Colo., and Nellis Reinert, Sun City West, Ariz.; two great-nephews; four great-nieces; and 12 great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Neil Hinshaw, one sister-in-law, Pauline Hinshaw, and one nephew, Douglas Hinshaw.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fowler Friends Church with Pastor Scott Moran presiding. --

Neva has requested that her body be cremated. Burial of the cremains will follow the service at Fowler Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.

JIM McGEHEE

Jim McGehee, 79, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born July 26, 1925, to William Robert and Effie Jane Gooch McGehee in Granada, Colo.

He married Dorothy D. Hickey Sept. 2, 1943, in Wichita. She survives.

He attended school in Hugoton.

He was employed by Gulf Research and Development Company for 14 years, later owning and operating McGehee Drilling Company, based in Montana, for 20 years. He worked for an irrigation company in Fort Morgan, Colo., and Sterling, Colo.

He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician's mate aboard the U.S.S. Idaho in World War II.

He was a member of Central Christian Church of Liberal.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Big Timber, Mont.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and his family.

Other survivors include one son, James McGehee, Galveston, Texas; two daughters, Sharon Schwarze and husband Gary, Long Lake, Minn., and Gwena McGehee, Barrow, Alaska; two granddaughters, Jill Ellenbecker and husband Tim, Minnesota, and Kristin McCawley and husband Jeremy, Buffalo, Minn.; one great-granddaughter, Eveline Ellenbecker; and two sisters, Rena Hershey and husband Paul, Rolla, and Joyce Krueger and husband Leland, Alpena, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Vernon and Hubert McGehee and four sisters, Hazel McGehee, Dorothy Brown, Mattie Lea Ziller and Reata McGehee.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Central Christian Church with Spence Powers presiding.

Cremation will follow funeral services with burial at a later date.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at Miller Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Central Christian Church in care of the mortuary.

IDA M. WELLS

Johnson -- Ida M. Wells, 100, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.

She was born March 28, 1904, to Samuel Daily and Martha Elizabeth (Triplet) Long in Meriden.

She married Royce O. Wells July 4, 1931, in Syracuse. He died April 15, 1989.

She worked as an operator for a telephone company.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Johnson, and she was also a Sunday school and Bible study teacher for many years.

She was a member of the Help A Lot Club of Syracuse.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting and working with crafts.

Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie L. Nairn and husband Archie and Donna Rae Gentry, all of Johnson, and Sara M. McCormic and husband Ken, Bend, Ore; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one niece; and numerous nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel D. Long, and three brothers, Pearl, William and Clarence H. Long.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with the Rev. Rocky Harrell presiding.

Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home of Johnson.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Missionary Fund or the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

DEAN SHORES

Dean Shores, 56, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

He was born Jan. 25, 1948, to Homer A. and Rosie L. (Webb) Shores in Guymon, Okla.

He married Anesia Ferguson Oct. 27, 1967, in Guymon, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Yarbrough (Okla.) High School in 1966 and later attended Panhandle State University.

He worked for Colorado Interstate Gas Company for more than 30 years.

He attended the James Church of God.

Other survivors include two sons, Brad Shores and wife Kelley Pike, Eva, Okla., and Brian Shores and wife Shana, Norman, Okla.; one daughter, Meggan Church and husband Chad, Canute, Okla.; four grandchildren, Taylor Cameron, Casady Church, Cooper Church and Owen Shores; five step grandchildren, Kaylon Brownfield, Shane Miller, Kenneth Pike, Tasha Pike and Ashley Pike; and one brother, John Shores, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Calvin and Duane.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the James Church of God, north of Texhoma, with Pastor Jim Cunningham presiding.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Eva Community Center in care of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
