MARTHA N. FARRIS
LAKIN -- Martha Nordyke Farris, 51, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at her residence in Lakin.
She was born Jan. 19, 1953, to Donald Allen and Marguerite (Cherry) Nordyke Sr. in Garden City.
She married David Lee Farris June 11, 1977, in Lakin. He survives.
She attended Deerfield schools and graduated from Sterling (Colo.) High School in 1971. She later attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. She later graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
She worked as a special education teacher, serving as both the Vocational Education Coordinator in Southwest Kansas and the Carl Perkins Grant Coordinator in Ulysses.
She was a member of the Lakin Pride Committee, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Lakin Chamber of Commerce, the Kearny County Extension Committee and the Lakin Housing Development Association. She was also a Special Olympics volunteer and coached junior high girls basketball for several years.
She enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and being involved in community improvements.
Other survivors include her mother; one son, Lee Michael Farris of the home; one daughter, Amanda Dawn Kepley, Garden City; two grandchildren; two brothers, Noel C. Taylor, Deerfield, and Bob C. Taylor, Liberal; and one sister, Marianne Nordyke, Garden City.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Donald Allen Nordyke Jr.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lakin United Methodist Church with Dr. Kenne Whitson presiding.
Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the Lakin Pride Committee, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
WINIFRED BEAVERS
Winifred Beavers, 76, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary.
FRANK JANZEN
Frank Janzen, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center.
Services are pending with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.
JAMES A. Jones JR.
ULYSSES -- James Allen Jr., 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Aug. 26, 1924, to James Allen and Ruby Elizabeth (Richardson) Jones Sr. in Liberal.
He married Dorothy Jean Cantrell Aug. 14, 1953, in Ulysses. She survives.
He was a well tender for Hugoton Production Company and Mesa Petroleum Company.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Patterson Avenue Church of God in Ulysses.
Other survivors include one son, Bradley Allen Jones and wife Marilyn, Ulysses; one daughter, Jana Elise Trebelcock and husband Rod, Ulysses; four grandchildren, Brooke Nicole Neuman, Bradley James Jones, Tori Brianne Trebelcock and Kelsi Jo Trebelcock; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Patterson Avenue Church of God in Ulysses with Pastor Earl Heath Jr. presiding.
Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home.

ERMA J. MILBURN
ROLLA -- Erma Jean Milburn, 85, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born March 31, 1919, to James A. and Pearl (Wade) Biggs in Perico, Texas.
She married Earl Milburn May 11, 1938, in Clayton, N.M. He preceded her in death.
The couple worked on a ranch near Kenton, Okla., until 1941.
She provided care for many of the elderly citizens as well as babysat for some of the younger residents of the Rolla community.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Hawkins and husband Steve, Moffet, Colo.; one sister, Lottie Waide, Texline, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, J.A. Biggs and Oscar Biggs.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rolla Cemetery. In case of inclement weather, the services will be at Rolla United Methodist Church.

MICHAEL WARREN
Michael "Mike" Warren, 49, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at his residence in Wichita.
Survivors include four sons, Jason and wife Anna, Sheldon, Mo., James and wife April, Nassau, N.H., Michael and Shawn, both of Wichita; one daughter, Stella Michelle Foreman and husband Larry, Garden City, Mo.; five grandchildren; one brother, Chet Warren and wife Jan, Oak Grove, Mo.; two sisters, Alta Rogers and husband Frank, Tyrone, Okla., and Donna Bayliff and husband Ray, Woodward, Okla.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Stella Warren and one grandchild.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
LEONARD E. EWING
ULYSSES -- Leonard Eugene Ewing, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Oct. 20, 1921, to Chester Glen and Ruby (Moore) Ewing in Viola.
He married Margie June Allison Jan. 6, 1950, in Raton, N.M. She survives.
He graduated from Hartman County High School in 1941.
He was a truck driver for Farmland Industries in Garden City for 23 years. He then worked for Big-R in Ulysses for several years.
He served his country in the United States Navy for three years on a merchant marine ship.
He was a member of the Family Worship Center International Church in Ulysses.
He enjoyed visiting with and helping customers.
Other survivors include one son, Roderick "Rod" Eugene Ewing and wife Eda, Satanta; two daughters, Valerie Jannett Wright and husband Bradley, Kansas City, Mo., and Kim Suzanne Ewing, Ulysses; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one brother, Chester Ewing, Overland Park; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Floyd Ewing, one sister, Alice McLaughlin, two grandchildren, Jason Ewing and Allison Ewing, and one daughter-in-law, Cindy Ewing.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mennonite Brethren Church in Ulysses with Pastor David Lee presiding. --
Military graveside services will be at Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

BESSIE M. McCALIP
ROLLA -- Bessie Marie McCalip, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Nov. 25, 1921, to Jervy and Hannah (Newman) Millemon south of Rolla.
She married Leroy Perkins Oct. 9, 1942, in Liberal.
She later married Charlie Edward McCalip. He preceded her in death.
She graduated from Rolla High School in 1940.
She enjoyed listening to music and attending bluegrass festivals.
Survivors include two sons, Calvin D. Perkins and Ivan L. Perkins and wife Janet, all of Rolla; one daughter, Sharon K. Robertson, Copeland; three granddaughters, Crystal and Paula Perkins, Rolla, and Amy Robertson, Copeland; one sister, Irene Westfall, Hugoton; and one sister-in-law, Hester Millemon, Rolla.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Charles, Cloyd, Russell, Don and John Millemon.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rolla with Pastor Danny Joiner presiding. --
Burial will follow at Rolla Cemetery.
