DIXIE M. SPENCE

HUTCHINSON -- Dixie May Spence, 22, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident in Hutchinson.

She was born April 30, 1982, to Lee and Debbie Skinner Spence in Hutchinson.

She was a 2000 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She was a senior at Kansas State University majoring in textile and apparel marketing and was scheduled to graduate in May 2005.

She was a sales representative at the American Eagle Clothing store in Manhattan.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club of Reno County and a Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority member at Kansas State University.

Survivors include her grandfather, Dwight Spence, McPherson; her parents; her fiance, Matt Lewis, Manhattan; two brothers, Dustin and Alex, both of the home; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lucile Spence and Merle and Isabel Skinner.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Nick Warner presiding.

Burial will be in McPherson City Cemetery in McPherson.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Reno County 4-H Scholarship Fund in care of Elliott Mortuary.

JUANITA A. PYLE

ASHLAND -- Juanita Abell Pyle, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.

She was born Feb. 28, 1923, to George C. and Flora Juanita (Herron) Abell in Kansas City, Mo.

She married Clarence Glenn Dennis Jr. July 21, 1946, in Ashland. He died in July of 1966.

She then married E.M. "Sonny" Pile III Aug. 21, 1971, in Dodge City. He died in November of 1983.

He attended kindergarten in Dodge City. He also attended a country school south of Minneola. He graduated from high school in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Pine Manor College in Boston and Dodge City Community College.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City with Father Dennis Zimmerman presiding.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery in Ashland.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Myatt Funeral Home in Ashland.

Memorials are suggested to St. Cornelius Episcopal Church of Dodge City in care of Myatt Funeral Home, P.O. Box 578, Ashland, KS 67831.

CLOREAN R. BREEN

Clorean (Rean) Breen, age 91 of Raton, NM and a former Liberal, Kansas area resident, died January 20, 2005 at Miners Colfax medical Center in Raton.

Rean was born September 21, 1913 at her childhood home in Floris, OK to Sidney and Mamie Fincher, Sharp.

She married Charles (Chuck) Breen on December 23, 1935 and enjoyed 57 years of devotion, love and laughter together. Rean graduated from Phillips University in Enid, OK with a language degree in English, French and Spanish and she could still correct other's grammar to the end!

She taught school at the Greenough School northwest of Fogan, OK, where Chuck also taught, coached and served as the superintendent. Throughout their career in education, they took the graduating classes on trips all across the country. Then they bought Rean's uncle's farm in Blue Bell area east of Liberal, KS. They farmed for 42 years there, as well as in Beaver County, OK. During those years, she and Chuck raised and showed registered Cocker Spaniels, raised Black Angus cattle and cultivated wheat and Milo crops. They also raised two children and were mentors to many others.

Over the years, people of many nationalities and faiths were treated to Rean's fine cooking as guest at the farm.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy and her husband Jim Cooper of Raton; brother, William R. Sharp and wife, Joanie of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Alisa Cooper of New Woodward, OK and Bill Niemeir of Norman, OK; nieces, Susan Nobles of Corpus Christi, TX, Eddie Jean Long of Clayton, NM, Barbara Sue Ray of Albuquerque, NM and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Daniel Michael and her husband Chuck in 1993.

There will be a family graveside service at the Floris Cemetery in beaver County, OK, at a later date. Because of Rean's life long commitment to education, in lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorials be given to the Dennis Breen Memorial Fund, Seward County Community College Development Foundation, P.O. Box 1137, Liberal, KS 67905, or a charity of your choice. --

Arrangements for Clorean (Rean) Breen are under the direction of the Yaksich - Long Funeral Home. --

JEWELL H. HAZELTON

Jewell B. Hazelton, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Liberal.

She was born Nov. 2, 1930, to Claude and Edith Price Jones in Galena.

She married Jeff Hazelton June 19, 1948, in Joplin, Mo. He survives.

She was an aide at the Kitch Nursing Home for several years. She later worked in the meat department of both North and South Ideal Foods and Jack & Jill.

She was a Red Hat Lady.

Other survivors include two daughters, Becky Naab and husband Kim, Liberal, and Jeanie Long and husband Bruce, Bella Vista, Ark.; five grandchildren, Shannon Gearheart, Tina Monroe, Tara Grant, Rodney Hazelton and Erin Long; 10 great-grandchildren, Bailey and Macenzie Grant, Sydney, Kody and Katlyn Gearheart, Alex and Nicki Hazelton, Courtney Taylor and Jeffery and Bryce Minor; one brother, Everette Jones, Tri-City, Wash.; and seven sisters, Eva Lee Barwick, Faye Bogue and Anna Lovelace, all of Joplin, Mo., Helen Smith, Centralia, Wash., Ida Vallo and Nancy Browning, both of Pendleton, Ore., and Eddie Worley, Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sons, Richard and Rodney Hazelton, two grandsons, T.J. Long and Gordon Monroe, and one granddaughter, Sarah Long.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Chapel.

Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at Miller Mortuary.

OPAL E. PROSCH

SATANTA -- Opal E. Prosch, 103, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit.

She was born March 22, 1901, to William S. and May Bell (Boatman) Wheat in Girard.

She married Roy Raymond Prosch May 27, 1925, in Great Bend. He died June 26, 1988.

She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1920 and continued her education going to Fort Hays College in Hays.

She was a school teacher, bookkeeper and administrator of the Satanta District Hospital for several years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Satanta.

She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star of Rush Center. She was also a member of the Satanta Hospital Auxiliary, Happy Agers and Afternoon Circle, all of Satanta.

Survivors include one son, Keith E. Prosch and wife Audrey, Prescott, Ariz.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Thane Prosch, two brothers, C.J. Wheat and Ralph Wheat, one sister, Irene Williasm, and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Satanta with the Rev. Jeff Miller presiding.

Burial will be in the Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Friends may sign the registrar from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Happy Agers Site of Satanta and may be left at the Shopping Stop True Value in Satanta or mailed to Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

EVELYN Y. FORD

HUGOTON -- Evelyn Y. Ford, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 27, 1924, to Amos and Gladys Milburn Youngren on her parents' ranch in the Dermot community in northwest Stevens County.

She married James C. Ford.

She attended schools at Dermot, Rolla and Hugoton.

She was a homemaker. She owned and operated the Sandbox for several years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church.

She was a member of Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, a board member of the Stevens County Gas and Historical Museum and a member of Rebekah Lodge, all of Hugoton.

She wrote the Stevens County History Book and Milburn Family History.

Survivors include four sons, James E. "Tex" Ford and wife Barbara, Bedford, Texas, Michael Terry Ford and wife Judie, Hugoton, Robert Lex Ford and wife Melissa, Sugarland, Texas, and Thomas V. Ford and wife Yvonne, Great Bend; one daughter, Roberta Kathleen Dale and husband Bill, Hugoton; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Amos Vincent Youngren Jr., Hugoton; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Alice Stout, Onita Simmons, Maurine Shirley and Dixie Schmidt.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with Minister Jeff Aenk presiding.

Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Stevens County Animal Shelter of Hugoton and may be mailed to Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
