RALPH V. HENG

Ralph Vincent Heng, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at his residence in Liberal.

He was born Nov. 8, 1921, to Vincent and Mary (Lederer) Heng at Nebraska City, Neb.

He married Barbara Ann Steele Aug. 8, 1950, in Liberal. She survives.

He was a 1938 graduate of Nebraska City (Neb.) High School.

From 1943 to 1945, he was a technician in training as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force working on B-24 radio equipment.

He was owner-operator of Tri-State Communications in Liberal from 1954 to 1980.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal, a Charter and Life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3381, Fourth Degree Knight in the Bishop A. J. Schweriner Assembly 1302, Tuesday Rosary Group at St. Anthony Catholic Church and also a member of the Elks Liberal Lodge No.1947.

Other survivors include one son, Ralph Michael "Mike" Heng and wife Tonia of Waukesha, Wis.; three daughters, Sharon Martin and husband Jerry, Manhattan, Karen Todd and husband Fred, Carmel, Ind., Marilyn Williams and husband Steve, Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Christopher Carrel and wife Jill, Matthew Carrel, Kelly Martin, Jamie Martin and Mandie Reed and husband Phil; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Heng, Lincoln, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Irvin Heng Sr.

Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with Father Patrick A. Keyes and Father Tony Judge presiding.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial are suggested to the St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund or Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.

EUNICE L. WHEELER

ULYSSES -- Eunice Laveta Wheeler, 91, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.

She was born July 29, 1913, to Charles Hardesty and Lulu (Reavis) Layton in Braymer, Mo.

She married John "Jay" Riley Wheeler March 27, 1930, in Moscow. He died in 1970.

She was a homemaker. She was a retired florist for Jaynelle's Flowers and Gifts, and she also provided special care at Western Prairie Care Home.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Ulysses.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother.

She enjoyed sewing and doing alterations for Gray and Rosel. She also liked to work in her flower garden and making scrapbooks.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur Layton Wheeler and wife Sandra, Kearsarge, Mich., and Richard Reavis Wheeler and wife Bonna, Quinter, and Ronald Ellis Wheeler and wife Vicki, Ulysses; four daughters, Patsy LuAnn Wormus and husband Sam, Casper, Wyo., Leora Lynne Webber and husband Allen, Salina, Jaynelle Sue Phillips and Zana Rae Rudzik and husband, Richard, all of Ulysses; 20 grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 18 step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Leora Olive Rosel and one grandson, David Webber.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Ulysses with Minister Warren Baldwin presiding.

Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

CAROLINA SCHMIDT

MONTEZUMA -- Carolina Schmidt, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Bethel Home Inc., in Montezuma.

She was born March 17, 1912, to Daniel J.H. and Ida (Koehn) Schmidt in Tampa.

She married Norman J. Schmidt Sept. 28, 1930, in Montezuma. He died Feb. 4, 1997.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Church of God In Christ Mennonite in Ingalls.

Survivors include three sons, Earl E. Schmidt and wife Johanna, El Campo, Texas, Lloyd Schmidt and wife Phyllis, Ingalls, Donald D. Schmidt, Montezuma; five daughters, Norma Jean Caldwell and husband Elvin, Ingalls, Josephine Schultz and husband Tobie, Montezuma, Rose Wedel and husband Verlin, Ingalls, Ruby Buller and husband Galen, Ingalls, Virginia Dirks and husband Ralph, Palmersville, Tenn.; 32 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Buller, Montezuma, Leah Johnson, Montezuma, Lena Smith and husband Herman, Ingalls; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Schmidt, Ingalls; and many relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Vernon J. Schmidt, one infant daughter, Pearl Nadine Schmidt, four brothers, Abner, Clarence, Pete and Jake Schmidt, two sisters, Mary Isaac and Ruth Schmidt, one grandchild and four great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Living Hope Mennonite Church in Ingalls with Ministers James Koehn, Stan Smith, Roger Yost and Staven Schmidt presiding.

Burial will be in the Living Hope Mennonite Cemetery in Ingalls.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in Montezuma and may be mailed to Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

DESSIE KOEHN

MONTEZUMA -- Dessie Koehn, 88, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Bethel Home Inc., in Montezuma.

She was born Dec. 1, 1916, to Ben D. and Susie (Unruh) Schmidt in Las Animas, Colo.

She married Otto P. Koehn Oct. 13, 1968, in Montezuma. He died Oct. 12, 1974.

She was a homemaker. She worked as a nurse aid in Garden City, Sublette and Bethel Home in Montezuma.

She was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma.

Survivors include four step sons, Norman Koehn and wife Irene, Victoria, Texas, Warren Koehn and wife Janis, Victoria, Texas, Lavern Koehn and wife Phyllis, Montezuma, and Kenneth Koehn and wife Karen, Montezuma; one step daughter, Orpah Boehs and husband T.J., Macon, Miss.; 24 step grandchildren; 62 step great-grandchildren; five brothers, Elmer B. Schmidt, Montezuma, Edwin Schmidt, Montezuma, Harry Schmidt, Montezuma, John Schmidt, Montezuma, and Ben Schmidt, Montezuma; five sisters, Mabel Koehn, Montezuma, Hannah Koehn, Montezuma, Luella Harms, Montezuma, Elizabeth F. Koehn, Montezuma, and Irene Koehn, Victoria, Texas; one step daughter-in-law, Crystal Koehn, Montezuma; and many relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one step son, Ivan Koehn, one step daughter, Arlene Schmidt, one brother, Jesse Schmidt, and one sister, Leona Yost.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the North Mennonite Church in Montezuma with Ministers Charles Schmidt, Donald Koehn and Norman Koehn presiding.

Burial will be in the North Mennonite Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., of Montezuma and may be mailed to Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

RONALD E. CRANE

HUGOTON -- Ronald Eugene Crane, 46, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at his residence in Hugoton.

He was born Oct. 13, 1958, to Charles E. and Theo (Gooch) Crane in Hugoton.

He married Kendrea Lawless June 27, 1981, in Coldwater. She survives.

He worked for Kansas City Valve and Fitting as a salesperson and sold swagelock products.

He was a a member of the First Christian Church. He was a deacon and Wednesday night Sunday school helper.

He was an honorary member of Kiwanis Club of Hugoton.

His hobbies were golfing and collecting cushman scooters.

Other survivors include his grandmother, Gracie Crane, Hugoton; his parents; one son, Caleb E. Crane, Hugoton; two daughters, Monica E. Crane, Hugoton, and Brittney M. Crane, Hugoton; two brothers, Mark A. Crane and wife April, Tulsa, Okla., and Jereme D. Crane and wife Shannon, Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Deb Donaldson and husband Mike, Broken Arrow, Okla.; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Charla Holder, his grandfather, Walter Crane, and his grandparents, Ted and Olive Gooch.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with Minister Jeff Aenk presiding.

Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to ALS of Wichita and may be mailed to Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

OVERLAND PARK -- Marie Hathaway, 90, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the Garden Terrace in Overland Park. Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary.

HOBBS, N.M. -- Fayrene Martin, 51, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Hobbs.
