FLOYD W. LEONARD SR.
SUBLETTE -- Floyd W. Leonard Sr., 98, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Garden Valley Retirement Village Inc., in Garden City.
He was born June 2, 1906, to Lee and Alice Gertrude (King) Leonard in Pratt County.
He married Berenece Combs Feb. 5, 1928, at Cullison. She preceded him in death in Dec. 22, 1999.
He was a farmer.
He was a member of Christian Church of Sublette.
Survivors include one son, Floyd J. Leonard Jr. and wife Phyllis, Sublette; one daughter, LaVelle King, Loveland, Colo.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Estel Fern Leonard, Satanta; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dale W. Leonard; one granddaughter, Mardella Sue Leonard; one grandson, Larry Dale Leonard; one brother, LaVern Leonard; and two sisters, Velma Reece and Vienna "Vina" Swafford.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Christian Church of Sublette with Minister David Erwin presiding.
Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery
in Sublette.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.
Memorials are suggested to Christian Church of Sublette or Garden Valley Retirement Village Inc. in Garden City in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS.
CLAUDE L. FELLOWS
ULYSSES -- Claude "Shorty" Leon Fellows, 68, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Sept. 3, 1936, to Emery Claude and Martha Fellows in Denver.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He was an auto mechanic.
Survivors include one brother, George E. Fellows, Thorton, Colo., and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Kansas Veteran Cemetery
in Fort Dodge.
There is no visitation as cremation has taken place.
ZOLENE WADLEY
Zolene Wadley, 96, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 29, 1908, to Jeff and Mattie (Miller) Sapp in the Dombey Community near Adams, Okla.
She married Weldon Noble Wadley on Sept. 9, 1926, in Liberal. He died Feb. 9, 1994.
She attended numerous rural schools. She finished her education in Tyrone, Okla.
After Weldon went to the service, she became the postmaster, one of the first women in that position.
She worked for Grey's Drug in Hooker, Okla., for 20 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hooker where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ruth Circle.
She was also a member of Eastern Star and Modernistic Bridge Club.
She helped with the elections in Hooker, Okla.
Survivors include three daughters, Weldene Weber and husband Eugene, Hooker, Okla., Leah Fowler and husband Bob, Hooker, Okla., Ramona Duer and husband Dale, Hooker, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, Gene DuBois and wife Jennie, Terri Ann Hubbard and husband Rick, Mark DuBois and wife Suzanne, Therrol Dubois and wife Becky, Dalene Doyle and husband Howard, Jenice Short and husband Jim, Kerry Duer and wife Candice, Andi Brankel, Daron Fowler and wife Janie, Eric Fowler and wife Dawn, Ardon Fowler, Lori Chambers and Brett Fowler; 33 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one sister Loy Provost, Marietta, Ga.; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Sapp, Provo, Utah.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and husband Juana and Loren DuBois; one son-in-law, B.G. Burdge; three sisters, Leo Christenson, Gertrude Southern and Aylene Porter and two infant sisters, Juana and Glenna; two brothers, J.D. Sapp and Otes Sapp; and an infant brother, Aubrey.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Okla., with Jim Maynard presiding.
Burial will be in the Tyrone Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church-Building Fund or the charity of choice and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745 Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
CARMON D. JUDD
Carmon D. Judd, 63, died Thursday, March 30, 2005, at his residence in Liberal.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary.
BILL HUNT
The Rev. Bill Hunt, 83, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 4, 1922, to Earnest and Mollie Jones Hunt in Morrilton, Ark.
He married Edna M. Hill on Oct. 12, 1941, in Muskogee, Okla. She died Aug. 11, 1977.
He married Minnie Smith, Dec. 28, 1986, in Wichita. She survives.
He served as associate pastor of the New Testament in Liberal Church for many years.
He was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church of Liberal and All Nations Church of Liberal.
Survivors include four sons, the Rev. William Hunt and wife Betty, Wichita, Roosevelt Hunt and wife Tina, Oklahoma City, the Rev. Moses Hunt and wife Eva, Pittsburg, Calif., and Andrew Hunt, Liberal; four daughters, Betty Portley and husband Clifton, Wichita, Joyce Johnson, Kansas City, Mo., Alice Love and husband Larvell, Lake Charles, La., and Annette Hunt Mullins, Liberal; 36 grandchildren; 61 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and one brother, Robert Hunt and wife Yvonne, Benica, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one son; and one daughter.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Nations Church with the Rev. Jimmy Holman presiding.
Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Mortuary.
MATTIE E. BAKER
Mattie E. Baker, 89, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center.
She was born May 27, 1915, to Reed and Inez King Burries in Galon, La.
She married James Baker in Liberal. He died July 31, 1994.
She worked at the Golden Derrick for many years.
Survivors include one son, Joe Clay, Liberal; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Solomon Burries, Compton, Calif.; and one sister, Mary Esther Witherspoon, Dumas, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bibleway Church of God in Christ with the Rev. M. L. Tatum presiding.
Burial will be in the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary.
JANICE C. JONES
ULYSSES -- Janice Catherine Jones, 47, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital at Ulysses.
She was born April 17, 1957, to Raymond Joseph and Helen Cecilia (Flax) Schuler in Ness City.
She married James R. "Jim" Jones on Aug. 27, 1994, at Ulysses.
She was a kindergarten teacher at Hickok Elementary School in Ulysses.
She was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.
Her hobbies included collecting Boyd's Bears, angels and butterflies, gardening, traveling and golfing.
Other survivors include her parents; one son, Charles Jason "C.J." Conover, Hays; one daughter, Amandra L. Conover, Manhattan; two grandsons, Kaleb Brasuell and Kegan Brasuell; one step-son, Josh Brasuell, White Salmon, Wash.; one step-daughter, Jessica Lattimore, Goodland; four brothers, Darrel Schuler, Ness City, Father Steve Schuler, Borden Town, N.J., Alan Schuler, Ness City, and Myron Schuler, Rooksville, Fla., and many relatives and friends.
Vigil services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Satuday at Mary Queen of Peace Church in Ulysses with Father Jim Dieker and Father Myron Flax presiding.
Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery
in Satanta.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.
